DUMP, KLON Klon Dump Versus The Open Air 2x12"
Five releases strong and A Colourful Storm is cementing itself as one of the most exciting labels to watch. They've even managed to surprise with their most "functional" record yet with Klon Dump's Klon Dump Versus The Open Air. Four demented sides of bleeps'n'bloops'n'bassliners, with just enough sass, sub, and a beautifully complex sound palette to boot.

TEJADA & JUSTIN MAXWELL, JOHN I've Got Acid (On My Brain) 12"
Next up on Acid Camp Records is a record created by duo John Tejada and Justin Maxwell. The opening track, "I've Got Acid (On My Brain)" is a mind-bending wavetable freak-out. Using a vintage EMS vocoder to create an original vocal sample, this track is bright, playful, and vivacious. "The Name Rolls In" is layered in an acid playground of sounds. It's a distinctly groovy track with a potent 303 bass line, prominent percussion, and that infamous vocoder. "Field Notes" is a beatless, celestial arrangement carried through by tiers of sounds, filters, and noisier elements, creating an alluring sonic dreamscape.

VA African Scream Contest: Raw & Psychedelic Afro ...Sounds From Benin & Togo 70s 2LP
2017 repress. Double vinyl version, in deluxe gatefold sleeve and printed inner sleeves which replicate all of the liner notes from the CD version booklet. Same 14 tracks as the CD. The mission of Analog Africa is clear: searching in dusty warehouses for forgotten music to keep it alive. All tracks have been officially licensed, usually from the artists who label-head Samy Ben Redjeb also met with for detailed research. Like most modern music in French-speaking West African countries, the music of Benin and Togo was influenced by a few main musical currents: Cuban, Congolese and local traditional music, as well as Chanson Française. Additionally, the geographical location of Benin and Togo -- sandwiched between Ghana and Nigeria -- exposed Beninese and Togolese musicians to highlife music. The cultural and spiritual riches of traditional Beninese music had an immense impact on the sound of Benin's modern music. Benin is the birth place of Vodun (or, as it is known in the West, Voodoo), and some of the rhythms used during traditional rituals -- sakpata, sato, agbadja, tchenkoumé and many others -- were fused to soul and Latin music as early as the mid-'60s and later to funk. That fusion is the essence of this compilation. There are countless stories to be discovered in the extremely well-researched booklet and the music is truly mind-blowing. So delve into the forgotten raw and psychedelic Afro sounds from '70s Benin and Togo and experience the African Scream Contest.

VA Afrobeat Airways 2: Return Flight to Ghana 1974-1983 2LP
2017 repress; Double LP version. From the coastal cities of Accra and Cape Coast, basked in a tropical sound heavily influenced by highlife, to the semi-Saharan cities of Tamalé and Bolgatanga (part of a self-proclaimed "Islamic Funk Belt") via the central city of Kumasi, Analog Africa has criss-crossed Ghana in search of rare tracks for the Afrobeat Airways series. Following the success of the first installment in 2009, Analog Africa is proud to present the second volume -- a selection of 13 ultra-rare tracks composed by some of the musical giants who had created a movement that rocked the West African nation throughout the '70s: legendary singer K. Frimpong; Nana Ampedu (leader of the mighty African Brothers Band); Gyedu-Blay Ambolley and his superb guest appearance with The Complex Sounds; Afrobeat star Ebo Taylor, backing his son on an unreleased track called "Children Don't Cry"; the enigmatic Rob and his unique blend of twisted Afro-funk; innovative drummer De Frank; and Uppers International, with their raw, Islamic funk style. More obscure artists such as Los Issufu And His Moslems, Waza Afrika 76, and Tony Sarfo And The Funky Afrosibi make northern hemisphere debuts, adding to a rich list of Ghanaian artists whose music could be transferred seamlessly to any dancefloor in the world.

DISCRETE CIRCUIT Road Force EP 12"
Berlin's Away launches its sublabel Astray with the Road Force EP by Discrete Circuit. The EP provides four progressive tracks mirroring his interest in a growing techno narrative as well as mind-manipulating onomatopoeia. The title track's on-edge techno design quickly accumulates into some kind of hounding; not knowing if you're the hunted or the hunter. "Stress Resultant" increases the pace; the restless vibe is contrasted by melodic synth patterns. "Controlled Error" exhibits the dialogue between harmony and chaos in which shrieking, yet claustrophobic shades play hide-and-seek ultimately unfolding a gloomy funk, while "Circuitry" is completely carried by shape-shifting, pulsing soundscapes.

Primitive Trust is the coming together of two experienced musical minds: Will Saul of the influential Aus Music empire and Tom Mangan, aka Tee Mango, the producer who started Millionhands record and clothing label. Their sessions have resulted in a series of three EPs that will be released over four months. Using the building blocks of house and classic techno, Primitive Trust can do zoned-out and romantic as much as driving and heady. They mix samples, wigged-out synth work, and propulsive rhythms to create something honest and heartfelt. Skarbard provides a remix of "Power On".

QUAESCHNING & SCHNAUSS Synthwaves CD
Synthwaves pays homage to the masters of the past, yet it feels fresh and enchanting. Crisp, interlocking patterns are modulated and mutated with mathematical precision into eight pieces of pristine, post-kosmische sounds to float away to. During two intense weeks in Berlin, Thorsten Quaeschning and Ulrich Schnauss locked themselves in a studio full of vintage synthesizers, analog sequencers, and drum machines, and the result is a gorgeous set of purely electronic music. As with the finest Tangerine Dream soundtracks, it's the kind of music that paints vivid pictures on the canvas of the listeners mind: synth plucks hang in the air like glaring neon in metropolitan dusk and zero-gravity pads hover like ghostly morning mist traveling over empty coastlines. Poly-rhythmic patterns are allowed to build -- slowly but steadily -- bar after bar, until synth-Satori is reached.

LOUD-E The Brasserie Heroique Edits Part 4 12"
"Loud E is undoubtedly one of our biggest heroes in this label and of course one of the most underrated artists in this god forsaken planet. The first time I saw this man mixing disco records was in Athens and I will never forget that night. The Discos Paradiso crew is calling him the 'Jeff Mills Of Disco' and if you ever see this man on a good night, the description is not very far away from the truth. Also, Loud E is the hybrid between an amazing collector of music and a proper DJ that knows how to use these records for major dancefloor impact. The Intergalactic FM crew knows this man really well cause his mixes for Interr-Ference are quite legendary (go to the Intergalactic FM shop and buy them, they are definitely better that some of the mix CDs that I see these days). In 2008 he released Loudiefied, an LP of some of his favourite edits. We picked four of our favourite ones and we created this EP to shed some light to this man cause if we have to be honest, we love underrated guys like him. What can we say, we just adore the misfits that never sold their soul to an energy drink. Four disco bangers that will destroy your disco session and will definitely put a smile on the face of the most cynical DJ."

"This is a strictly Bristol affair. Ossia comes back after his last deep and spiritual journey for Berceuse Heroique and this time he is vexed. He cooked this tasty stew of hardcore, grime and dancehall and it bangs like a motherfucker. African Head Charge on bloody steroids bruv. On the b-side, one of our favourite producers the last few years, badman Lurka took this mission to harness the wild style of Ossia and let me tell you something, this mercenary doesn't fuck around. Heavy electro vibes with the precision of Photek when he was gracing us with tunes like 'Ni Tien Itch Ryu'. Scorched Earth Policy with this one"

DC SALAS The Unspoken LP
Having established himself as a vital figure in the Brussels music scene, Biologic Records co-founder DC Salas presents his debut album The Unspoken. The eight-track LP features collaborations with fellow Belgian electro-pop duo Joy Wellboy and Mirror Minds. After a string of dancefloor oriented EPs, he draws inspiration from his live act and diverts away from the club to explore the more melodic aspects of his sound. More than just a format, the album structure is used here as a method of storytelling, using the spontaneity of live music making to express varying emotions without restraint. Lead single "Cala Falco" is a slow building track that treads carefully between warmth and melancholy, using subtle harmonic progressions to play with the mood of Joy Wellboy's vocals. Title track takes cosmic melodies and layers them in polyrhythmic forms to hypnotic effect, whilst "This Love" uses skeletal percussion to carry retro-futurist melodies. Many of the tracks produce textures that are only achievable with the use of hardware. From the somber harmonies and crisp drums of "Victor" to the swelling tension of "Enfant Bruit", DC Salas masterfully navigates his equipment to create emotive and powerful sonic spectrums. The entirety of the production process was done with close friends, including mixing by fellow label owner Harold Boué (aka Abstraxion) and a video collaboration with Victor Pattyn.

SCHNEIDER KACIREK Radius Walk CD
Another dose of whirring rhythms and dark drones courtesy of Stefan Schneider and Sven Kacirek. This time around they have introduced the beguiling tones of Swedish singer Sofia Jernberg on three pieces. The Düsseldorf/Hamburg duo Schneider Kacirek released their debut album Shadows Documents some three years ago (BB 175CD/LP). A coarse energy ran through Shadows Documents, drawing on the pair's various excursions to Kenya as producers. Shadows Documents was a somnambulistic interpretation of Kenyan music using drums and percussion (Kacirek) and analog synthesizers (Schneider) -- no samples. The two of them took their time working on Radius Walk. Since their debut release, they have toured extensively with the likes of John McEntire (Tortoise, The Sea and Cake). The experience of playing together in live situations has influenced how they interact as musicians, a process which has helped to shape the new record. The acoustics of Sven Kacirek's studio were set up perfectly to capture the forceful sound of the drums and analog synthesizers as they melt into a compact whole. The result is a sonically more concentrated and more transparent album in comparison to its predecessor. Dark bass drones and whirring percussion sounds figure prominently in the music. A fascination with repetitive rhythm is the common thread which runs through the musical development of both musicians: listen to Stefan Schneider in his other projects, the bands Kreidler and To Rococo Rot, and his albums with Hans-Joachim Roedelius. Further evidence can be heard on Kacirek's solo albums, in particular on his much-lauded Kenya Sessions (PING 020CD, 2011). By introducing the Swedish singer Sofia Jernberg, Schneider and Kacirek have added a new dimension to their music. They first met Jernberg in Berlin, where she performed with Kenyan singer Ogoya Nengo for whom Schneider and Kacirek had done production work in the past. As one of the most sought after vocalists on the improvised music circuit, Jernberg made an immediate impression on Schneider and Kacirek, who were quick to suggest that they work together. The splendid fruits of their labors can be savored on three tracks on the album. "Dust", "i Atlanten", and "Smiling" express both Jernberg's love of Scandinavian folk music and her mastery of improvisation. Her voice neither dominates the songs in the manner of a singer-songwriter, nor does it lean towards crossover experimentation. It feels more like a brand new genre of music.

GROSSKOPF & EBERHARD KRANEMANN, HARALD Krautwerk LP+CD
LP version. Includes CD. Harald Grosskopf played drums on the early Klaus Schulze albums and recorded thirteen albums with Ash Ra Tempel. His solo works, 1980's Synthesist (BB 158CD/LP) and 1986's Oceanheart (BB 157CD/LP), are outstanding releases of the German electronic music scene. Eberhard Kranemann studied music at the Dortmund Conservatory and art at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. He co-founded the electronic bands Kraftwerk, NEU!, Pissoff, and released albums under the pseudonym Fritz Müller. Harald Grosskopf and Eberhard Kranemann transmit cosmic sonic visions of today, tomorrow, and beyond in one of the most exciting collaborations in recent years. Krautwerk -- German efficiency, original, sensational, and mind-melting man-machine transcending art, the philosophy of unbounded sonic colors and resistance thinking. For the first time ever, Harald Grosskopf and Eberhard Kranemann transmit their cosmic sonic visions of today, tomorrow, and beyond. The Germans are great inventors. They gave us the automobile in 1886, Adidas in the 1920s, and then Krautrock in 1970s. The golden children of the genre, Harald Grosskopf and Eberhard Kranemann, have united to celebrate the genre's reign as Krautwerk. Originating from the German cities Berlin and Düsseldorf, krautrock dominated the musical field from 1969-1975. Its influential force impacted rock and techno. Lose yourself in the trippiness of Krautwerk's psychedelic soundscapes and celebrate a movement that changed music as we know it. Kranemann and Grosskopf did not know each other until they met for the first time in 2016 on a festival where they both performed their solo projects. They decided to merge the different sounds of the Düsseldorf and Berlin schools of electronic music together, resulting in energetic, contemporary new sounds.

LUCIANO & DAVID MORALES Esperanza 12"
Cadenza's head honcho Luciano teams with house music legend David Morales for Esperanza. David and Luciano composed the track together but they each refined their own mix. Luciano's "Flow Latino Mix" is a long, tribal, ground-moving crescendo with a sub-frequency dense kick and sparkling Nuyorican-flavored percussion. Hand drums ride a magnetic bass provoking a state of hyper-amnesia slowly reaching a climax of celestial chords. David Morales's "Red Zone Mix" is a lengthy dramatic ascension with a darker feeling. Stretched textures are the background of a constellation of scattered percussion, over which fast paced hi-hats subliminally introduce evocative strings and arpeggios.

KHOST Governance CD
Governance continues Khost's immersion in themes of detachment and dissonance. It ruminates upon the exertion of wills that are not your own, and upon the ways to detect and trace the outlines of the presence(s) that may exert these wills upon you, day-by-day. Governance was written over the course of the 2016/17 winter, during times of unease and sickness for the band, including one near-death experience. The resulting album is a hinterland of low resolution transmissions interspersed with broad concrete columns of distortion that loom suddenly from the dim landscape. Governance is like driving at night with your spirituality asleep at the wheel. With demoralizing vocal terror, hypnotic nightmare-scapes, frost-encrusted tones, and horrifying rhythms, Khost's Governance devastates the listener with nearly fifty minutes of entrancing, yet hazardous tectonic doom-laced revulsion. Features guest appearances from Eugene Robinson (Oxbow) and Jo Quail, and includes a remix of the track "Coven" by Tel Aviv artist Adrian Stainburner. Khost is comprised of Andy Swan (Final, Iroha) and Damian Bennett (Carthage, Techno Animal, Deathless). Comes in a six-panel digipak.

XORDOX Neospection CD
Editions Mego present the first release of a brand new project from JG Thirlwell. Recorded at Self Immolation studios in Brooklyn. This is Xordox. Xordox orbits a universe inhabited by darkness, wit, mystery adventure, and experimentation. The cinematic quality that exudes from Thirlwell's bent being presents itself in Neospection; Unlike Thirlwell's other works, this is predominantly a synthesizer record, including recording sessions from his residency at the legendary EMS studios in Stockholm, employing Buchla and Serge synthesizers. Sarah Lipstate (aka Noveller) plays her super-processed soundscape guitar on three of the tracks on the album, and additional mixing took place at Lazer Sound studios with Al Carlson (who works extensively with Oneohtrix Point Never). Xordox. Diamond circulating swells; Sequenced stealth sci-fi; Malleable membrane matters; Wild fabric electronic; Heart eaten beat; Fruits of fear and exhilaration. Neospection is neon noir. Neospection is ere 4 yor. Xordox arrives as unexpected and remote as any alien encounter but security lies in the cosmic drama and dark shadows that seep throughout Thirlwell's soul. In this, 2017 the listener once again enters the mind and world of one man who refuses to play along with anyone's game but the idiosyncratic one of his own devising. Tech and engineering at EMS by Jonas Broberg and Daniel Araya; Mastered by Scott Hull at Masterdisk; Artwork by JG Thirlwell; Space Shuttle cockpit photo by Ben Cooper; Space photos courtesy of NASA. The second release on Figure Jams places the seasoned Swedish sound sculptor Patrik Skoog alongside Abstract Division, a collaborative project of Dutch producers Paul Boex and Dave Miller. The latter deliver a pair of straight-forward tunes that stem from the depths of space. With an intimidating backdrop of menacing and rummaging drones, they carefully create a constant sense of alarming tension that is never lifted. Patrik Skoogs "The Field" is a heavy hitter of immense magnitude that, despite packing a bouncy punch, still stays afloat thanks to its light hats. Another agile alien groove closes the EP, with rides zooming in-and-out.

The first EP of the series features remixes from dBridge, Konrad Black, and Nathan Jonson. dBridge steps up for two remixes, the first is warped and deconstructed, the second a high energy drum & bass belter. Konrad Black slows things down with a darker groove whilst Nathan Jonson's "Rewind To 96" utilizes rave tropes and chopped vocal samples.

THOMAS, TIMMY Africano/Why Can't We Live Together 12"
"The Label: TK Records in essence represents the city of Miami when it came to Soul/R&B and the early stages of Disco. In 1974, George McCrae gave the label its first #1 Disco hit with 'Rock Your Baby'. A little more than a year after McCrae's hit, the record label struck gold with KC & The Sunshine Band with five #1 songs on the Billboard Hot 100. Needless to say at the height of the genre's cultural domination TK did pretty well. Timmy Thomas: Without a doubt, he's most famously known for the hit song 'Why Can't We Live Together'. The record topped the U.S. Billboard R&B chart, made the top three in the Billboard Hot 100 and was charted in top 10 in many countries including the UK. A staple in the R&B scene, he had a successful solo career until the mid 80s, later focusing on the writing and production side of the business. 'Why Can't We Live Together': It may have been his biggest hit, but also one that keeps resonating to this day. A response to the devastating news coming from the war in Vietnam, its words 'No more wars, we want peace in this world, and no matter what color, you're still my brother.' are indicative of a time marked by the horrors of war abroad, and the racial discrimination in America. Written and Produced by Timmy Thomas himself solely on a Lowrey organ, and an early rhythm machine, the song however was far from simple as its emotive message continues to provide a profound context. And even though it's been covered over the years by many artist including Sade and Joan Osborne, 'Why Can't We Live Together' has managed to come back on the charts again in 2015, as the instrumental backing to Drake's Hotline Bling, which has now sold over 2 Million copies in the U.S. Alone. Once a hit, always a hit. 'Africano': When it comes to this Deep Disco cut, 'Africano' is one of those tracks that probably never got much shine in America, but has since become a dancefloor favorite of underground disco DJs worldwide. Curiously, years after its release, its biggest supporters were Italian DJs like Danielle Baldelli, Mozart and Gianni Maselli who during the 80s played Disco, African records, American R&B, and reggae to create what has been since become known as the Afro-Cosmic scene at the height of Club culture in the discothèques of Northern Italy."

GROUP HOME Livin' Proof 2LP
"Although they have been tragically defunct for almost two decades, the influence of Gang Starr is still felt today, almost as heavily as it was back in the 1990s, when DJ Premier and Guru ruled atop boom-bap mountain. As fans know, beyond the duo's direct output, one of their lasting legacies was bringing younger talent to the rap world at large -- including Jeru The Damaja, M.O.P., Afu-Ra and Big Shug. One of the more unsung talents that came out of the Gang Starr Foundation was the Brooklyn-based duo Group Home, consisting of MCs Lil Dap and Melachi The Nutcracker. Dap was first showcased on the Gang Starr posse cut 'I'm The Man,' on 1992's Daily Operation; Melachi appeared on 'Words From The Nutcracker' from 1993's Hard To Earn. The early Group Home song 'So Called Friends' was also featured on 1993's now-legendary Gangstarr Foundation Sampler, which also gave the world Jeru's 'Come Clean.' By 1995, Dap and Melachi had paid their dues and finally got their own full-length: Livin' Proof. And it was everything that Gang Starr and any true school hip-hop fans could have wanted, produced almost entirely by DJ Premier (with two exceptions: 'Serious Rap Shit' helmed by Guru himself; and '4 Give My Sins,' produced by Jay-Z mentor Jaz-O (aka Big Jazz). Beyond the album's still-jocked commercial singles ? 'Supa Star,' 'Livin' Proof' and 'Suspended In Time' -- there are Premier-overseen classics all over, including 'The Realness,' 'Inna Citi Life,' and 'Sacrifice.' In fact, many Gang Starr scholars agree that the beats on Livin' Proof are in the Top 5 of all Premier-produced albums -- no small boast, but certainly hard to disprove. More than two decades later, the album still sounds as strong as it did upon its release. So dust off your turntable and give it another ride, back to the days when boom-bap was real, and ruling."

PERRY & THE UPSETTERS, LEE 'SCRATCH' Super Ape LP
2017 repress. "Few artists enjoy a legacy that involves a re-engineering of the very genre in which they work. Lee 'Scratch' Perry is such an artist. As a pioneer of dub reggae Perry viewed the mixing console as musical instrument in its own right. The influence of his revolutionary approach has been felt world-wide and into genres far beyond reggae. His 1976 effort, Super Ape, is considered a masterpiece of this or any genre. Working with The Upsetters at his Black Ark studio Perry created a sound with such a lasting appeal that The Rough Guide includes Super Ape as one of their 100 Essential Reggae releases. NOTHING BUT HAPPINESS Retour CD
The unreleased second record by Nothing But Happiness, recorded in 1991. By today's standards, it sounds positively avant-garde. Label head David E. Barker on Retour: "In 1984, I released a compilation LP on the original Glass Records label, called Shadow And Substance (The Wonderful World Of Glass Vol. 2) (1984), intended to show the label as part of, or at least allied with, the UK/US international pop underworld of the day. Alongside tracks by Half Japanese, Cheri Knight and Bruce Pavitt (of Sub Pop, which at that time was a cassette fanzine type thing), sat Nothing But Happiness and King Of Culture, two connected 'groups' that I heard, and indeed met in Manhattan's Lower East Side, through Pam Weiner of Green Records, from Tampa Bay FLA. I used to write to labels or bands I had seen reviewed in Option Magazine back in those days, exchanging discs or tapes with them, which is how I connected with Bruce, Calvin Johnson, Jad Fair and Pam. Cut to: 30+ years later, Glass Records is resurrected as Glass Redux, to give me something to do in my old age, and I spot David Bowman on Facebook. Next thing you know he's telling me about the unfinished second NBH LP from 1991, goes off to Seattle to finish it, sends it to me, I love it, and here we are, closing the circle and maybe drawing a new one up."

ROMBOY & DORTMUNDER PHILHARMONIKER, MARC Reconstructing Debussy CD
Claude Debussy (1862-1918) was one of the most popular and forward-thinking composers associated with impressionist music. His innovative and at this time new way to compose music with non-traditional scales and chromaticism inspired countless artists from the likes of Steve Reich, Philip Glass, Miles Davis, and Herbie Hancock. Remarkable attributes of his music include the usage of parallel chords, bitonality, and the many compositions using whole-tone and pentatonic scales, all of which are reminiscent of contemporary electronic music where you hardly find limits or boundaries when it comes to traditional, harmonic sounding scale tone music. After studying countless composers of the last centuries, Marc Romboy decided to accept the challenge to edit, remix, and reconstruct several works of his favorite French composer, ranging from "La Mer" to "Prélude À L'Après-Midi D'Un Faune". Romboy on Debussy: "One sentence of Debussy impressed me a lot when he said that he simply intents to write new sounding music. This is and has been exactly my goal, to create kind of unheard sounds." On the album, Romboy performs together with the Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra, the renowned conductor Ingo-Martin Stadtmüller, the well-respected Düsseldorf based concert master Miki Kekenj, and sound programmer Ali Khalaj. The recordings were directed December 12th, 2016. It's the first live recording ever released on an album where electronic sounds and classical components are merged in such manner. Mastered by Steffen Müller. Includes dropcard with download code; High grade artwork and packaging by FELD, Berlin.

DJ HELL Zukunftsmusik CD
International Deejay Gigolo are pleased to announce DJ Hell's fifth album Zukunftsmusik, his first album in eight years. The techno revolution 30 years ago, where boundaries, walls and our own guarded natures came crumbling down... The archaic establishment-challenging attitude and forthright energy of the punks... The long-awaited eruption of gay culture that had burned and yearned since the dawn of mankind... Dare you travel even further back? Rewind two hundred years to the romantic revolution where men like the blitzed Berloiz helped us transcend our physical limitations for suspended moments of fantastic disbelief... All of these moments have shaped us, our music and our culture. Each movement comprising artists who -- like us right now -- are trying to make sense of the uncertain world, the chaotic present and the fearful future. Artists like DJ Hell. Welcome to the future... Reflecting over his participation and contribution to a myriad of cultural movements since the late '70s, his passion of ever-evolving musical form and our current socio-political landscape, Hell taps into our collective rich histories, our combined fears and our mutual desires to create his most personal, ambitious and thought provoking body of work to date: Zukunftsmusik. His fifth studio album, Zukunftsmusik fuses some of Hell's strong signature motifs -- his passion for subversion, his great kosmische canvases, sudden throbbing bursts of dancefloor dynamism, subtle song-craft -- yet it sounds unlike anything Hell has ever created before. There are very few big club singles. A delicate balance of classical dramatic orchestral tension and evocative futuristic synthesis runs throughout. Dark and light, hope and fear, fast and slow, day and night... Over the course of one hour, Helmut Josef Geier invites you on a musical trip of a lifetime; his lifetime, your lifetime, music's lifetime. CD version includes the track "With U", which features Stereo MC's; Includes ten cover cards.

VA Jeff Ozdemir & Friends Vol. 2 CD
Berlin-based musician and mass collaborator, Jeff Özdemir, is back with a new album and this time he's gone for gold. With cinematographic soundscapes, thick bass lines, tangible percussion, eerie keys, and charming vocals, this synergetic masterpiece treads the boundaries between jazz, Gameboy sounds, chanson, psychedelic desert, soul, minimal, seventies pop, dub, electronic, and classical music with a hint of a John Carpenter-esque style to boot. Rooted in the past but spanning to the future, Jeff Özdemir & Friends Vol. 2 refuses to be pigeon-holed into any one decade or genre, transcending these categories without destroying them. Through deep experimentation, Turkish-born multi-instrumentalist Özdemir and his circle of friends have managed to create their own unique sound whilst remaining changeable and varied. Much like the collaborators of the project itself, each song has its own personality drawing from the various corners of the musical universe and joining together to create a new world. The tracks oscillate between Özdemir's solo-work, to dual collaborations, to group projects and include names such as F.S. Blumm, Andrew Pekler, Halloumi Express, Sonja Polligkeit, Benjamin Wild, and Dizzy from Rotation. Drawing from their creators diverse backgrounds, the songs incorporate multi-cultural, multi-linguistic elements including French, Japanese, Turkish and Portuguese. Despite its wide scope, this album and its catchy, lingering melodies is both cerebral and accessible. Jeff Özdemir & Friends Vol. 2 gives you an insight into Özdemir's world which he centers around his record store, 33rpm Store, in the heart of Berlin Kreuzberg. It is through this hub that he and his friends join together to discuss, listen to and, of course, make music. So have a peek through the window of Jeff Özdemir's mind and enter once again into a universe of sound both familiar and entirely new...

DOPE PRESENTS, KENNY Gangbusters/Meetings 7"
"Charlie Ahearn's 1983 film Wild Style holds a place in both music and cinematic history as one of the first examples of a hip-hop film. Since its original release it has been widely praised for its hybrid approach as both a narrative musical and a documentary, and as a time capsule of sorts into the culture of hip-hop during its infancy in the 1980s. Besides its classic depictions of MCing, turntablism, graffiti, and breakdancing, the film also featured now legendary figures of the genres in acting roles, such as Grandmaster Flash, Fab Five Freddy, Busy Bee Starski, and many more. Wild Style went on to garner an immense cult following, portions of the film itself would be sampled in records by artists like Nas, Beastie Boys, MF Doom, and more, and would even be exhibited by museums in Chicago and Boston as part of programs on the art of the 1980s. Beyond the film itself however, Wild Style's soundtrack has gone down in music history as a crucial piece of hip-hop handicraft. During a time where the sampling of records by Queen or Kool & The Gang was commonplace in the hip-hop scene, Ahearn took a different route in soundtracking his film, calling upon seasoned musicians like Chris Stein of Blondie and R&B session drummer Lenny Ferraro to produce an entirely original set of lyricless groove, which would be sampled into true hip-hop instrumental tracks by turntablist Grand Wizzard Theodore. The mystery and intrigue surrounding the breaks became the stuff of hip-hop legend, and a treasure trove for crate-diggers and vinyl enthusiasts. In association with premium reissue label Get On Down, world-renowned DJ Kenny Dope, a longtime fan of the breaks that made up Wild Style's soundtrack, re-edited the tracks into full-length cuts in 2014. Kay-Dee now presents the singles individually for the first time ever. With shades of Syd Barrett and other Anglophile figures, Chilton's adoption of obscure blues, R&B, soul, and the American songbook provided an interesting and provocative return to form with 1985's Feudalist Tarts EP (1985). KUBIKOV, ANTON Whatness CD
While the last Kompakt offering from legendary Russian synthesists SCSI-9 dates back to 2008, when the duo released their album Easy As Down (KOMP 068CD), co-founder and techno/house virtuoso Anton Kubikov kept himself busy cultivating his own label Pro-Tez Records and establishing a career as solo artist with a clear penchant for dub-infused soundscapes and ambient music. Whatness is Kubikov's first solo full-length under his proper name. Weaving airy and iridescent sonic tapestry, Whatness takes up where his excellent contributions to Kompakt's Pop Ambient compilations left off. Anton Kubikov's special ear for ambience and tonal spaces was always an integral part of SCSI-9's musical DNA, alternating between tight dance workouts and vast melodic range. But it's as a solo artist that he truly started to explore these spaces, following mysterious sonic trails into foggy, reverb-heavy territory. Kubikov's contributions to the several installments of Kompakt's Pop Ambient compilation series announced the arrival of a promising new project, a promise more than satisfied with the immersive sound bath of first solo outing Whatness. Going from the richly layered electronic drones of "Liquid Mirror" or "Entrance" to the lush ambient dub of "Other The Sea" and "Kurt's Forest", or the minimalist, evocative piano of "Oktober" and "Pia", the album covers a lot of stylistic ground, but remains committed to its overall aesthetic of misty mountains and serene valleys. With the endearing "April", a true Pop Ambient classic from the 2016 compilation (KOMP 128CD/KOM 345LP) makes a welcome return, priming the canvas for the subtle bass throb of "North" and its charming synth bell orchestra. Masterfully refining and extending his sonic pallet on Whatness, Anton Kubikov can claim his spot among the very best of today's ambient composers.

VA Nie Wieder Streit 2LP
For Lehult's tenth release, they've put together a ten-track compilation of new material featuring friends of the label, titled Nie Wieder Streit. The four sides showcase some familiar Lehult sounds as well as some unexpected surprises: original crew members Liem, Lucky Charmz, Eddie Ness, Johan Kaseta, and DJ Assam are all on board with new material, while Matthias Reiling, A Trap Jr. & DJ Slyngshot, Rainboy, and Epikur also join the party. For the special occasion, Lehult wanted to compile a collection aimed at the DJs that have supported the label. Nie Wieder Streit is one of those versatile records that offers something for every situation, one that never leaves your bag. There's chilled, intricate songs for the early and late hours on the dancefloor, dark and vibe-y jams for the dungeons, joyful and weird peak-time stuff, and some straight-up groove monsters -- all on one release. Liem and Eddie join forces for the seemingly deteriorating, jumbling peak-time cut "Exodoro" while Liem's other contribution, "Truly Super", serves up sweaty basement magic. Lucky Charmz shows an unheard shade with his 150 bpm kitsch-anthem "Trance Song Cover", while Johan Kaseta's opener "Venue Flieder" and Assam's floaty groover "Looking For Revenge" stay in line with their trademark fruity/meditative sound. Epikur, a project between Eddie Ness and his longtime partner in crime Kryptofauna, snatch their debut release with the club-ready, synth-laden groover "Speedrunner IV", while Tony Rainwater's introduces his Rainboy project, gazing at his shoes on new-wave ballad "Heaven Fallen On Heaven Flesh". Last but not least, Mathias Reiling -- one-half of Session Victim and Giegling regular -- and Offenbach's A Trap Jr. and DJ Slyngshot contribute to the deeper end of this release with their respective tracks "Give And Take", an introverted, jazzy percussion trip, and "Lonely Is The Night", an ever out-of-touch, slowly rising whirlwind. Alessandro Parlatore and Marcello Giordani's four-tracker explores parallel worlds through expert synthesizer sequencing and cavernous vocals features. Celestial melodies paired with Athena's stream of consciousness Italian recital guarantees dancefloor devastation with "Superior Conjunction". The hypnotic theme of "Arpadia" complements the title track's restrained drama, while Fantastic Twins elevate "The Train Of Fantastic" to an altered state of being.

TROST, HEATHER Agistri CD
"Heather Trost is best known for her work composing and performing as one half of A Hawk And A Hacksaw. She has also played with Neutral Milk Hotel, Beirut, Josephine Foster, and most recently Thor Harris of Swans. She has arranged and performed with the BBC Concert Orchestra, as well as conductor Andre De Ridder and his Stargaze Orchestra, and toured throughout the world. In 2014 she released her first solo project, a 7-inch on Ba Da Bing Records, followed in 2015 by Ourobouros, a limited edition cassette of expansive electronic ambient compositions influenced by Basil Kirchin, Terry Riley and Angelo Badalamenti on Cimiotti Recordings. These two projects propelled a full length album: named after a Greek Island, Agistri is a song cycle of freely formed pop songs touching upon soul, samba, and pop music of the '60s and '70s, with a subtle shade of psychedelia. Ambient and melancholic sounds interweave with Hammond organs and '70s Italian synthesizers, reflecting the desert landscapes of New Mexico, and the sparse shrubbery and turquoise water of the Aegean Sea and its islands. Bolstered by contributions from Neutral Milk Hotel's Jeremy Barnes on drums and bass, Deerhoof's John Dieterich on guitar, and Drake Hardin and Rosie Hutchinson of cult New Mexico band Mammal Eggs, Trost's talents as a songwriter and arranger explode on this wonderful, often surreal album."

The Rolling Stones, live on BBC Radio, 1963-1965. "In view of the past increase of interest in rhythm & blues groups in Britain, an exceptionally good future is predicted for us by many people," Brian Jones wrote to the BBC in January 1963, requesting an audition. They turned him down, but soon changed their mind. Between that autumn and the summer of 1965, the Rolling Stones recorded numerous classic radio sessions for the BBC, which are presented here, digitally remastered, together with background notes and images. Features performances on Saturday Club, Blues In Rhythm, The Joe Loss Pop Show, Big Beat '64, Top Gear, Rhythm And Blues, Big Beat '65, and Yeh! Yeh!. It lands here as the title track of the EP, perfectly tooled for any poolside dance party. Omer moves effortlessly into his trademark late-night melancholic trip territory with "High Hopes", leading in with snapping percussion before giving way to a fierce bassline, swirling layers of melody, and synths. "Back And Forth" pulses with electric energy, quickly pulling you into its distinctly neon after-dark atmospherics, with a foreboding hook that twists around itself amid spiraling tension.

LUCKY+LOVE Lucky+Love CD
Los Angeles-based duo Lucky+Love present their self-titled debut album. These eight electrified tracks were written when bandmates Loren Luck (drums, synths) and April Love (vocals, keyboards, guitar) were living next to a noisy construction site in Glendale, California. Here, they successfully incorporate synth-heavy bass with polyphonic harmonies and crystalline vocals, propelling the music into trance-inducing territory. Inspired by artists such as New Order, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, Depeche Mode, Washed Out, Tycho, and Cocteau Twins, their sound falls beautifully into an everyman's land between electro rock, dream pop, electronica, and synth gaze. This music has, in the words of Loren Luck, "lots of LFO, riveting arpeggiations, simultaneous solos via spacey square waves, with April's smoky vocals." Lucky+Love is an electronic music record, but comes from a more traditional place, where OMD or Kraftwerk came from -- one of an unsampled, unprogrammed live recording originally at 192kHz/24-bit quality. "Musically, as much attention was paid sonically to the organic moog instruments as April's voice, and we offered the analog synths space in the songs to breathe to their true dynamic potential," says Loren Luck. This album came to light through recordings at Eagle Rock's Cave Studio with Josiah Mazzaschi, sessions with sound editor Morgen Stary, and comp-ny Studio, with Grammy winner Be Hussey (Guides). Lucky+Love currently write and record in their music studio in Echo Park, California. The video for the lead single "Digging In The Earth" was directed and edited by cinematographer and animator Steve Barron.

CALE & BAND, JOHN Live At Rockpalast 2CD/2DVD
"Even today, John Cale is renowned for having been a member of The Velvet Underground alongside Lou Reed, Maureen Tucker and Sterling Morrison. Though less known to many fans are his early collaborations with avant-garde musicians like John Cage or La Monte Young. His solo works have always been a mixture of classical influenced avant-garde, orchestral works and dynamic, experimental rock. He has worked as a musician, producer (Nico, Patti Smith, Happy Mondays, to name a few) and arranger. His collaborations with artists such as Brian Eno, Kevin Ayers or Little Feat are legendary. When he was invited for the Rockpalast-Festival on October, 14th 1984, he had just released the desolate masterpiece Music For A New Society (1982), Caribbean Sunset (1983) and John Cale Comes Alive (1984). Compared to the official live album, John Cale's performance at the Rockpalast was far more intense, desperate and wild. He performed the songs with a very hard edge, sometimes even deconstructed them ('Heartbreak Hotel'), receiving a mixed reaction from the audience, that just has survived performances of Level 24, Huey Lewis & The News and Chalice. When John Cale appeared onstage it nearly was 3 o'clock in the morning, the atmosphere in the hall was as tense and menacing as the concert that followed. Up to this day, this performance remains one of the most spectacular concerts in the history of the Rockpalast-Series. In sharp contrast to this performance you will find a second concert at Zeche Bochum from 1983. Here you will find the more introverted John Cale: a man and his piano performing his all-time-classics, including an extremely expressive version of 'Fear Is A Man's Best Friend'. Altogether, this set perfectly represents the many facettes of the John Cale in the early 80s -- it is a historic document which stands the test of time. Boxset with 2 DVDs and 2 CDs, booklet with photos and linernotes."

VOIGT/465 Slights Still Unspoken (1978-1979) CD
Mental Experience present an expanded reissue of Voigt/465's 1979 album Slights Spoken, titled Slights Still Unspoken (1978-1979). Formed in Sydney in 1976, Voigt/465 was a truly unique band from the exciting days of the Australian post-punk scene. Heavily influenced by such luminaries as the Velvets, Stooges, Syd Barrett, Pere Ubu, Can, Faust, Henry Cow, Slapp Happy, and Eno's Roxy Music, they created an abrasive sound in which krautrock, DIY, avant-garage, post-punk, psych, art-rock, and free improv-noise combined to form a sound unlike any other. In 1978, they released one of the first DIY 45s from Australia, State/A Secret West, which showed their "pop-psych" side and was played by John Peel in the UK. The following year, their bass player Lindsay O'Meara decided to leave the band and join Crime & The City Solution in Melbourne. Before parting ways, Voigt/465 decided to record one last album as a testament. Slights Spoken saw the light in 1979 and it's without doubt one of the most fascinating albums from the post-punk/DIY era. The entire album is featured here, including the two tracks from their first 45. Includes download coupon which features three live tracks from '78-79, including killer covers of Faust, Can, and Roxy Music. RIYL: Can, Faust, Pere Ubu, Roxy Music, Family Fodder, The Homosexuals, Slapp Happy, This Heat, Pop Group, Primitive Calculators. Remastered sound; Insert with rare photos and liner notes by band member Phil Turnbull.

LOS SAICOS Demolicion: The Complete Recordings LP
2017 repress. LP version with a 12-page full-color booklet with extensive notes and unseen photos. "With only six singles released between 1965 and 1966, and from an apparently remote place such as Lima, Peru, Los Saicos created a raw, wild and visceral sound, the Southern Hemisphere equivalent of the garage rock that was coming out of the U.S. Northwest at the same time. Theirs is the same DNA shared by The Sonics, The Cramps and Black Lips. This release compiles all their recordings and tells their amazing story. This snarling maelstrom of nihilism was cut in Lima when the rest of the world was wetting itself over The Beatles, direct links to both The Stooges and The Cramps here and several more equally-enthralling combos. The latter spawned several generations of individuals who would dig deep to previously (mostly) unheard seams of music and other forms of culture that have since become part of the mainstream fabric. Another strong case of the same kind of happenstance to my mind is that which preceded the much-vaunted 'punk' explosion of the '70s." --Lindsay Hutton

EQUATICS, THE Doin It!!!! LP
2017 vinyl repress of this 2010 reissue that contains the track "Merry-Go-Round," featured on the Netflix series Master of None. "The stories of great high school funk bands are, thanks to an abundance of reissues, commonplace. The tales of great high school soul-bands are still rare. A ballad or two on the random Douglass High School Stage Band album or Timeless Legend's mesmerizing entry on Columbus's 1972 1st Annual Inner City Talent Expo notwithstanding, high school bands rarely struck into the realm of 'grown folks' music. Enter The Equatics and their brooding masterpiece Doin' It!!!! If this is categorized as a 'funk' album -- and it was for the last ten years, by those few lucky enough to own an original copy -- it holds its own. But it was as a soul band, one as inspired by the melancholic musings of Bill Withers as the psychedelic-pop of the self-proclaimed 'Black Moses,' Issac Hayes -- that the Equatics shone. These young souls offered world-weary, beat-heavy ballads that stand on par with any of the great independent organizations of the early 1970s. That a group of teenagers could offer such an angst-ridden plea as that of Leo Davis's 'Merry Go Round' not only transcends the limitations that came from the band's average age (seventeen, at the time of the album's recording), but also the barriers the stood in front of this group of small-city hopefuls. This official reissue was licensed by the Equatics' bandleader, bass player Benjamin Crawford."

On "Emile", night time arrives and warm chords mix with jangling, organic glass and percussive tinkles. A skittish, dubstep style groove then comes in and elevates the track with gentle guitar licks and slithering synths.

RUBY SUNS, THE Sprite Fountain CD
The Ruby Suns, the band-ish pseudonym of nomadic Californian-New Zealander Ryan McPhun, return after four years with a brilliant record, Sprite Fountain. It began in earnest upon moving to Oslo, Norway from Auckland in 2013's twilight with impending fatherhood tapping him on the shoulder. A slowly ripening thing, it was made amidst child rearing and touring with NZ pals Lawrence Arabia. Having released on Sub Pop and Memphis Industries in the past, Ruby Suns' Sprite Fountain, a pithy nine songs running over thirty-three minutes, is stylistically an amalgam of the four previous Ruby Suns records. Rhythmically and harmonically complex, McPhun's influences are eluded to like snatches of a jukebox heard across a busy motorway. The touchstones are brief -- ELO for four bars, a hint of Julia Holter in an arrangement -- before they disappear into a kaleidoscopic tapestry that reveals McPhun to be a singular savant, hinted at by his diverse back catalog. Though harmonious in macro, there is a mania within -- a fitting analog to what is often the predicament of a new parent: constantly under-slept, delirious, and confused, yet somehow elated. Not to mention the matter of cultural isolation that comes with being an immigrant in a new country, and an antipodal one at that. McPhun has trouble relating to the "Pram Gang" he passes by on the street and grapples with Norway's political movements in "Blåhvalene". He then goes back to California with the Wilsonesque "Blankee" -- a Steinbeck-referencing ode to his teenage surf break (Ventura Point) and the almost a capella album closer "King Cake". "Gatrapa" is a Tropicalia-induced, Siri Hustvedt-quoting epistle on the inexorable parade of time, and "Tilt Of His Hat" is a jovial but bumpy supplication to an overworked and overstressed loved one. "K Rd Woody" recounts halcyon days on Auckland's Karangahape Road with its transient dive bars and cheap late night eateries, while "Waterslide" is a fuzzy cautionary tale of primitivism gone awry. Sprite Fountain was made almost single-handedly by Ryan McPhun in Scandinavia. He then moved onto Spice Boys studio in Copenhagen, with finishing touches made in a friend's 18th century villa in Chelva, Spain. Bevan Smith visited Norway with his Eventide Harmonizer and assisted with the final mix. Sprite Fountain is a treasure box of potent ideas, discrete and often discreet. A blissful, psychedelic and always totally surprising listen; with each subsequent listen revealing gleaming new attractions.

BELLOWS Strand LP
Italian electro-acoustic composers Giuseppe Ielasi and Nicola Ratti reconvene their unique Bellows collaborative project for their new album Strand on Shelter Press. Continuously drawing a hypnotic maze with albums on Boomkat Editions (BKEDIT 012LP, 2015), Entr'acte, and Ielasi's cult Senufo label, Bellows offers their first album on Shelter Press with Strand. Clocking right under 40 minutes, Strand is direct and disorienting. With eight tactile but distant untitled tracks, the album convokes a complex sound palette between acousmatic sound and fractal beats. Recorded in Milano at their very own Standard recording studio, Strand marks a shift in Bellows' previous recording process, bringing more music gear on the table: tapes, modular synthesizers, effects, and samples. Captured live over the course of four days of improvised sessions, the album floats between ghostly melodies, musique concrète, and analog electronics. Echoing with the artwork by Amsterdam-based artist Louis Reith, whose collages made of found black-and-white images are disrupted by bold geometric constructions, the album is disorienting and fascinating, seated right in between the challenging world of electro-acoustic and a more welcoming beat-oriented territory. Strand is a fascinating body of work, growing over time and revealing more of its complexity at every listen. Artwork by Louis Reith. Reverse board-printed inners and jacket; Design by Bartolomé Sanson. Mastered by Giuseppe Ielasi; Cut at Dubplates & Mastering.

A classic of chamber rock music, featuring heavy use of dissonance and dark, brooding, and extremely complex melodies. Comes on limited edition orange and gold vinyl; Includes insert; 380 gram sleeve."This music on this LP might have little to do with rock, and might also be a massive downer, but the quality of the writing and playing is extremely high. Michel Berckmans' solo work on oboe and bassoon work is magnificent, and Patrick Hanappier's string playing (violin and viola) also demonstrates the precision of a trained classical musician, along with demonic avant-garde scraping and howling on 'Jack The Ripper.' Best of all, Univers Zero never cheapens the effect of the music with any of the stock cartoon licks which are associated with the gothic genre today. Group members sound deadly serious about what they're doing, which might call their sanity into question, but which makes for an incredibly powerful listening experience. In fact, Heresie is a stunning one-of-a-kind item that has never been duplicated by anyone -- including Univers Zero." --William Tilland, AllMusic

APPEL, KAREL Musique Barbare LP
2017 limited repress; LP version. Gatefold sleeve. First reissue of Karel Appel's masterpiece Musique Barbare. In 1963, Dutch abstract expressionist painter Karel Appel (1921-2006), who cofounded the avant-garde Cobra movement in 1948, booked time in the Instituut voor Sonologie in the Netherlands to compose music for a documentary that cinematographer Jan Vrijman was making on Appel's work. Musique Barbare was born. Originally released by Philips, this masterpiece of musique concrète is a real jewel for any record collector. Made in collaboration with Insituut member Frits Weiland, Musique Barbare is a fantastic mix of electric organ fumblings, full-on riots of distorted kettle drum, and assorted percussion-room filigrees, assembled into an extremely edit-heavy suite with significant tape-speed manipulation. Karel Appel was a forceful and fascinating personality, and Musique Barbare bears his unique stamp as much as any of his other artistic creations. A more remarkable gramophone record has not been produced in many a year. Includes exclusive photos by Ed van der Elsken and texts by Jan Vrijman, all printed on luxurious photographic paper.

FALL, THE Perverted By Language LP
"The Fall returned to Rough Trade in 1983 to release a pair of singles ('The Man Whose Head Expanded' and 'Kicker Conspiracy') and Perverted By Language, their sixth proper studio album. Perverted By Language hints at the band's shift towards a distinctly pop approach, one that they would perfect via their Beggars Banquet output that immediately followed. Yet again, the force and panic of their initial Rough Trade recordings remains the foundation for much of the album. A transitional recording in the absolute best sense, Perverted By Language is The Fall both as they were and as they would become. The emergence of Brix Smith is often cited as the impetus for The Fall's move toward outward pop, and she first makes her first appearance with the band on Perverted By Language. Nowhere is her presence felt more than on 'Hotel Blöedel,' where she handles lead vocal duties alongside Mark E. Smith whose mangled violin accompaniment roots the song's cold romanticism in his unmistakable brand of strange. 'Garden' provides a new take on The Fall's stretched-out tendencies -- using ringing, clean guitars to build a nearly 10-minute epic more subtly than ever before. The opener, 'Eat Y'self Fitter,' is wholly classic Fall: a playfully circular bass line drives the album's strongest vocal spout, complete with emphatic breaks where Mark E. Smith issues the song's spiteful decree with equal parts glee and scorn. Superior Viaduct's edition is the first time that Perverted By Language has been available on vinyl domestically."

TELESCOPES, THE As Light Return CD
Evolving oscillations of guitar feedback screech and howl through thick layers of distortion. Overtones shift and drift and combine on a carpet of white noise. In the eye of the storm, the voice of Stephen Lawrie remains calm, almost detached. He intones a low, trance-like chant. The vocal is buried deep in the mix, the lyrics just barely discernible. "My specific intention is always to create a listening experience reaching beyond the realm of natural vision. I see duality and multiple meaning everywhere, this is reflected in the way my inspiration is formed, of impressions released in such a way where the meaning is subjective to the listener." The Telescopes are back with their ninth album, As Light Return. Founded by Lawrie in 1987, the band has been through various phases and a long list of different members and associates. This time he is joined once again by members of the band St Deluxe, tracking the album at the esteemed Riverside Music Complex in Glasgow. The only constant member of The Telescopes, however, is Stephen Lawrie himself. The variable constellation has become part of the concept. As Light Return is The Telescopes' second album for the Hamburg label Tapete Records, following the release of Hidden Fields in 2015 (TR 318CD/LP). The new album maintains the balance of its predecessor, setting a parallel course between song-based noise structures and freeform impressionism, while containing some of The Telescopes' most crucial listening so far. "Every record I make is different from any others I have made so there is no control to measure against except to say that The Telescopes house has many rooms and, like the previous album, this album takes a peek inside every room rather than remaining in one. Yet despite having an uplifting album title, the subject matter on these recordings is a lot darker than on Hidden Fields." Tracks like "You Can't Reach What You Hunger", "Hand Full Of Ashes" as well as the album's similarly titled 14-minute closer "Handful Of Ashes" seem to contain an innate wisdom for the listener to decipher. After thirty years of pursuing his singular artistic vision, Stephen Lawrie is more focused than ever. These songs pay no heed to conventionalities. This music has an implicit power. The listener is free to enter a vast sonic universe and determine a personal set of coordinates.

BANJAW, YISHAK Love Songs Vol. 2 LP
2017 repress. LP version. Gatefold sleeve. Includes printed insert and download code. Ethiopian minimal wave from 1986. Teranga Beat presents Yishak Banjaw's first international release. Yishak Banjaw is a composer and keyboard player from Addis Ababa known to his country for his innovative compositions and unique sound. His ability to transform traditional Ethiopian songs into spacey minimal-wave gems creates an ultra-hypnotic and psychedelic atmosphere. Love Songs Vol. 2 was recorded in 1986 at Yishak's house, while he was working for the Police Band in Eritrea. It was released by an Eritrean label on cassette and was also distributed in Ethiopia. However, due to the shaky political situation, Yishak was forbidden to travel anywhere outside his country, including Ethiopia. Consequently, Love Songs Vol. 2 remained a very obscure and neglected musical experiment, until now. Yishak has released seven albums on cassette but, unlike many Ethiopian musicians, he has never managed to reach a wider and international audience. On this album, Yishak Banjaw chose to play everything on a small Casio PT, "a keyboard for kids" as he proudly mentions. He recorded the whole album live, directly to his tape recorder. Although his main instrument was a Godwin keyboard, he actually preferred to rent the Casio from a friend, as he was blown away by the way it sounded. This choice alone reveals a genuine talent that dared to go beyond what his colleagues were doing at that time.

JAY GLASS DUBS Dislocated Folklore Cassette
Dimitris Papadatos (b.1981, USA) is a composer, musician, and sound artist based in Athens, Greece. His experimentation in various territories of sound began in 2002 and since then, he has indulged in sonic areas that vary from pop music to music-concrete, post-grime, and dub. At the moment, he actively runs three projects: U, The Hydra, and Jay Glass Dubs. Jay Glass Dubs is an exercise of style focusing on a counter-factual historical approach of dub music, stripped down to its basic drum/bass/vox/effects form. His work has been presented in various institutions and festivals from the Transmediale, the Athens Biennale, the Onassis Cultural Centre and Fasma Festival, to the Athens/Epidaure Festival, Cynetart Festival and the Greek National Theatre, while he has composed scores for award winning short films and pioneering theatrical performances. He has performed in venues and spaces such as Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin, mo.ë in Vienna, Bios in Athens, Echo Buecher in Berlin, Salon Des Amateurs in Dusseldorf, Detail Gallery in Paris, and Goldsmiths University in London. His music has been featured in various radio shows including Trevor Jackson's show on NTS Radio, Sam Segal's show on WFMU, Tristan Bath's "Spool's Out" show on UK's Resonance FM and the "Tabs Out" podcast. Dislocated Folklore, recorded especially for The Tapeworm, consists of two 30-minute long tracks that incorporate mainly stretched-out 0'03" sample recordings of '90s Ragga 12" single intros combined with recordings of a Quran recitation from a Turkish TV channel and Jay Glass Dubs' signature hybrid hardware/software set-up. The title refers to (and therefore is an intended pun of) the misinterpretation of "otherism", "orientalism", "exoticism", etc. - phrases often used over the past 100 years to describe a tendency of metropolitan musicologists to intellectualize forms of expression that have a very strong relation to roots, religion, and ethics.

BULLION Blue Pedro 12"
"From his 'Rivertrance' remix for Model 500 on R&S to 2015's middle-eastern jig 'Stuck In The Muddle', Bullion has shown a consistent interest in combining ancient Celtic polyrhythms with modern production. His recent cassette for The Trilogy Tapes, All Abawd, which garnered praise from Ben UFO, contained more nods to Gaelic culture alongside a unique blend of broader world influences. His latest 12 expands on 3 tracks from the TTT mixtape, applying a focused and groove-based approach. A-side 'Blue Pedro' presents a joyful reel set to staccato synth rounds and a progressive backbeat. 'Muy Quimeda' adopts a sweeter, but nonetheless driving tone; forlorn female vocals and lush harmonies swooning over an arpeggiating foot-to-the-floor swing. 'Spin2Glory' shows a darker and heavier intention, with punchy kicks and claps bolstering FM bass hooks. A sea shanty gone overboard."

WATSON, CHRIS Weather Report CD
2017 repress. Chris Watson's critically-acclaimed 2003 release, Weather Report. After working with Cabaret Voltaire and The Hafler Trio, Watson became a sound recordist for the UK's Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. He has since joined a film and video production company, working for BBC wildlife documentaries and occasional feature films. It is with this naturalist spirit and background that Watson applies his work, capturing sound footage that illustrates a deep understanding of silence, space, and ecological wonderment. Weather Report understands that the weather has created and shaped all our habitats. Clearly, it also has a profound and dynamic effect upon our lives and that of other animals. The three locations featured here -- Kenya's Masai Mara, a Scottish highland glen and an Icelandic glacier -- all have moods and characters which are made tangible by the elements, and these periodic events are represented within by a form of time compression. This is Chris' first foray into composition using his location recordings of wildlife and habitats -- in his previous releases, he was concerned with describing and revealing the special atmosphere of a place by site-specific, untreated location recordings. On Weather Report, he constructs collages of sounds, which evolve from a series of recordings made at the specific locations over varying periods of time, distilling vast, diverse arenas of sound into pointillistic sound-poems. As Sasha Frere-Jones wrote in Time Out New York in 1999: "Listen to your world. It may be more interesting than all the things you buy to escape from it."

TERRY Remember Terry CD
Terry is also a band from Melbourne, Australia: Amy Hill (Constant Mongrel, School Of Radiant Living), Xanthe Waite (Mick Harvey Band, Primo), Zephyr Pavey (Eastlink, Total Control, Russell St Bombings), and Al Montfort (UV Race, Dick Diver, Total Control). Guitars, bass, drums, all four sing. Terry is a particularly active, having released two EPs and a full-length album Terry HQ (UTR 084CD/LP) in 2016 on Upset The Rhythm. After returning from summer 2016's European tour, Terry set about writing a new album of songs. These are now grouped together as Remember Terry, an album full of wish fulfilment, critiqued characters, memorial muscle, and historical hustle. "Start The Tape" is a not quite two-minute careen through what Terry are best known for; gang vocals, chased-down melodies and acerbic commentary. Terry draw on their everyday realities to make personal conclusions; "I can't live here, I can't leave here" they collectively sing through the strummed guitars and skittling synths of "Heavin Heavies". Somehow the serious nature of the themes handled in their songs are only further emphasized by the tuneful, arguably "sing-along" treatment Terry usually employ. "Give Up The Crown", "The Colonel", and "Gun" are other prime examples of this, packed full of assembled vocal harmonies, contagious riffs, and rhetoric. With tracks like "Glory" and "Homage", Terry allow their fans to see a more laid-back side of their personality. Supplemented with fluorescing synth lines and adopting an unhurried pace, both songs lull you into a false sense of pleasantry, only to pack a greater punch when lyrics like "Off his bloody head goes", or, "No head, no choice, no land, no time, no crime, no good" surface. "Take Me To The City" is a similarly evocative stroll through the "bright night city lights", with Amy and Xanthe listing their nightlife observations over languorous guitar lines and programmed drums. Terry prefer to make a profound point in a quiet way, hectoring bypassed for self-revelation. The truth is in there, just skating below the surface of their glammy, country-stepping punk/pop odysseys, you only have to listen carefully. Remember Terry is a fitting follow-up to last year's celebrated debut album. Throughout an expansion of sound and subject-matter though, Terry remain committed to telling it straight, reporting from the frontline of the political made personal. Digitized by Nick Kuceli. Mixed and mastered by Mikey Young.

KAWAI, KENJI Ghost In The Shell (Original Soundtrack) LP
We Release Whatever The Fuck We Want Records present the ?rst ever official vinyl pressing of the soundtrack for Mamoru Oshii's critically acclaimed and all around legendary science ?ction anime ?lm Ghost In The Shell (1995), adapted from Masamune Shirow's groundbreaking manga series of the same name. The haunting score is composed by Kenji Kawai, one of Japan's most celebrated soundtrack composers alongside Joe Hisaishi and Ryuichi Sakamoto, whose work includes Hideo Nakata's Ring (1998) and Ring 2 (1999), Death Note (2006), Hong Kong ?lms Seven Swords by Tsui Hark (2005) and Ip Man by Wilson Yip (2008), and countless others. Kawai's compositions see ancient harmonies and percussions uncannily mesh with synthesized sounds of the modern world to convey a sumptuous balance between folklore tradition and futuristic outlook. For its iconic main theme "Making Of Cyborg", Kawai had a choir chant a wedding song in ancient Japanese following Bulgarian folk harmonies, setting the standard for a timeless and unparalleled soundtrack that admirably echoes the ?lm's musings on the nature of humanity in a technologically advanced world. Ghost In The Shell is widely considered one of the best anime ?lms of all time and its in?uence has been felt in the work of numerous movie directors, including James Cameron's Avatar (2009), the Wachowskis's The Matrix (1999), and Steven Spielberg's AI: Arti?cial Intelligence (2001). "Unapologetically ambitious, complex, staggeringly powerful music, simultaneously haunting and moving. A collaborator of Jandek and Michael Rother, amongst others, Anika spins a surreal tale of longing and fate, with a quasi-religious delivery in deadpan counterpoint to its account of lust and fury, domination and submission. Shackleton's vivid, detailed sound-world is an inimitable blend of his own devotional and trance styles -- lingeringly melodic, sometimes atonal, with odd, overlain time signatures, and a general, imperious disregard for conventional song-making."

VA Japanese Traditional Music: Shamisen and Songs - Kokusai Bunka Shinkokai 1941 CD
2017 repress. This is the fourth volume in World Arbiter's Japanese Traditional Music series. The World Arbiter label presents 1941 recordings of the Kokusai Bunka Shinkokai -- masters of the shamisen. An extensive anthology of traditional Japanese music was created sometime around 1941-1942 by the Kokusai Bunka Shinkôkai (KBS), International Organization for the Promotion of Culture. KBS was established under the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1934 for cultural exchange between Japan and foreign countries, representing genres such as gagaku (court music), shômyô (Buddhist chants), nô (Noh medieval theater play), heikyoku (biwa-lute narratives of battles), shakuhachi (bamboo flute music), koto (long zither music), shamisen (three-stringed lute music), sairei bayashi (instrumental music for folk festivals), komori-uta (cradle songs, lullabies), warabe-uta (children songs), and riyou (min'you) (folk songs). Considering that 1941-1942 was a most daunting time for Japan's economy and international relationships with Asian and Western countries, it is remarkable that this excellent anthology of Japanese music was ever completed and published, as it contains judiciously selected pieces from various genres performed by top-level artists at that time. The KBS' recording project is of unique historical importance and culturally valuable as a document of musical practices in traditional Japanese genres during the wartime. Few copies of this collection exist in Japan. This CD restoration is taken from a set originally belonging to Donald Richie, a writer and scholar on Japanese culture (particularly on Japanese cinema), who had given it to Ms. Beate Sirota Gordon, known for her great contribution to the establishment of Japan's Constitution during the period of U.S. occupation after WWII. Gordon's father, Leo Sirota, a piano pupil of Busoni's, fostered many excellent Japanese pianists at the Tokyo Ongaku Gakko (Academy of Music, forerunner of present-day Music Department of Tokyo National University of The Arts) during 1928-1945. Shamisen, a three stringed lute, is said to have been imported from China through Okinawa into mainland Japan (Sakai, Osaka) in the latter half of the 16th century. It began to accompany popular songs and contributed in bringing about a variety of genres of shamisen music in the early 17th century. In the late Edo period (early 19th century), small-scale shamisen vocal genres such as ogie-bushi, hauta, utazawa, and kouta were performed by geisha in ozashiki chambers. This disc includes the shamisen music enjoyed in ozashiki. Jiuta music is mainly performed in houses or ozashiki chamber in the Kansai area and said to be the oldest shamisen music genre, born soon after the instrument's arrival in Japan. Kumiuta (combined pre-existent songs) music is also heard on this disc. Full descriptions are included in a 36-page booklet in English and Japanese.
