YOSHIMURA, HIROSHI Pier & Loft LP
First ever vinyl release; originally released on cassette in 1983. Gorgeous and essential archive material from this master of mood. The latest unearthing on Chee Shimizu's 17853 Records -- previously only available on a very limited Japanese cassette back early '80s. The late Hiroshi Yoshimura, a pioneer of Japanese ambient music, was involved in a wide range of fields, such as sound design for public installations, graphic design, visual poetry, free improvised performance (using his own body), and inventing his own instruments, right up until he passed away in 2003. The seven songs on Pier & Loft were created for a fashion exhibition held at a warehouse in the Tokyo bay area. He released it on cassette tape on Japanese label Fukusei Gijutsu Kohboh ran by Yoshio Ojima who also produced the album. Yoshimura referring to the Loft: "As the time goes by, the Loft that was swept away (forgotten) from the city but it somewhat has a look of a 'City of Ruins' that reminds you of something you have forgotten. Something nostalgic. Sounds from the city and the vast landscape gave me a great opportunity to take a fresh look at Tokyo". And referring to the Pier: "His look towards Tokyo bay takes on the shape of sonic particles. . . . tickling down gently while tinged with change. A landscape of seven sounds." The sleeve image is the same as on the original cassette release.

D.K. Distant Images 12"
Distant Images is D.K.'s fourth release on Antinote. Distant Images confirms that the Paris-based musician has been, in fact, digging deeper in the same direction. D.K.'s sound takes a step further into reality -- the most attentive ears will hear seagulls on "Distant Images" while rain is softly falling on "Leaving" -- and slightly departed from the digital universes that his previous records seemed to set in motion. From the most abstract songs -- like the Steve Reich-ian "Shaker Loops" -- to the most evocative ones, the five compositions on Distant Images are like stained glass, gently filtering natural light.

LUCIER, ALVIN Criss-Cross / Hanover LP
Black Truffle present the premier recordings of two recent works by legendary American experimental composer Alvin Lucier. Lucier has been crafting elegant explorations of the behavior of sound in physical space since the 1960s and is perhaps best known for his 1970 piece I Am Sitting In a Room (LCD 1013CD). He has written a remarkable catalog of instrumental works that focus on phenomena produced by the interference between closely tuned pitches, often using pure electronic tones produced by oscillators in combination with single instruments. Demonstrating the restless creative drive of an artist now in his 80s, the two recent works presented here both feature the electric guitar, an instrument Lucier has just recently begun to explore. In "Criss-Cross", Lucier's first composition for electric guitars, two guitarists using e-bows sweep slowly up and down a single semitone, beginning at opposite ends of the pitch range. The piece exemplifyies Lucier's desire not to "compose" in the conventional sense, but rather to eliminate everything that "distracts from the acoustical unfolding of the idea". In this immaculately controlled performance of "Criss-Cross" by Oren Ambarchi and Stephen O'Malley, for whom the piece was written in 2013, a seemingly simple idea creates a rich array of sonic effects -- not simply beating patterns, which gradually slow down as the two tones reach unison and accelerate as they move further apart, but also the remarkable phenomenon of sound waves spinning in elliptical patterns through space between the two guitar amps. In the comparatively lush "Hanover", Lucier draws inspiration from the photograph on the cover, an image of the Dartmouth Jazz Band taken in 1918 featuring Lucier's father on violin. Using the instrumentation present in the photograph, Lucier creates an unearthly sound world of sliding tones from violin, alto and tenor saxophones, piano, vibraphone (bowed), and three electric guitars (which take the place of the banjos present in the photograph). Waves of slow glissandi create thick, complex beating patterns, gently punctuated by repeated single notes from the piano. The result is a piece that is simultaneously both unperturbably calm and constantly in motion. LP design by Stephen O'Malley; Includes inner sleeve with a portrait of Alvin Lucier by Kris Serafin. "Criss-Cross" recorded at Studios Ina GRM, Paris by Francois Bonnet and mixed by Alvin Lucier. "Hanover" recorded in Zurich and mixed by Alvin Lucier. Mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin.

CLUSTER & ENO Cluster & Eno LP
2018 repress of Bureau B's 2009 reissue. LP version. Originally recorded and released in 1977 on Sky Records, the first collaborative album by Brian Eno and Cluster was the first ambient record produced in Germany, and is considered the seminal, defining work of the genre. Brian Eno was certainly instrumental in creating and popularizing the concept of "ambient music" -- but it was not his invention alone. The German musicians Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Dieter Moebius (Cluster) were brothers in spirit. As so often in music, the idea of ambient was in the air -- both Eno and Cluster experimenting with the form in the 1970s, rendering any debate as to who influenced who redundant. What is certain, is that Brian Eno attended a Cluster concert in Hamburg in 1975, strategically positioning himself in the front row. Sure enough, he was invited on stage to jam with the band and, after the show, the participants arranged to meet up again. They did so two years later at the Old Weserhof in Forst, the domicile of the German duo. Eno and Cluster spent three weeks in Conny Plank's studio, resulting in two albums: Cluster & Eno and After The Heat (1978). In the liner notes, Asmus Tietchens (who also plays on the record along with Can's Holger Czukay) writes: "Clearly, all three musicians inspired each other during their three weeks together without any clash of personalities. Nevertheless, some tracks sound more like Cluster, some more like Eno. So it made perfect sense to collect the tracks with a Cluster flavor on Cluster & Eno." The importance of this record can never be overstated, nor can its elegance of diverse forms be matched. From Indian sitar and tamboura, to synth warbles and airy tributes to Western groove, it is a rare glimpse at what happens when masters meet.

SCHLAMMPEITZIGER Damenbartblick auf Pregnant Hill LP+CD
LP version. Includes CD. Swallowing air and farting it out, that's the main life skill of the weatherfish. But what's best about him is his evocative German name: Schlammpeitziger. When German electronic artist Jo Zimmermann launched his solo career in the early 1990s, he chose to be identified with this creature living in the flat muddy waters of the European and Asian plains. Unlike the fish, Schlammpeitziger's early reputation was built on his inventive use of cheap Casio synthesizers and the use of composite nouns to name but his first five albums. This here is his eleventh, and while Schlammpeitziger's art has moved on, true to his nature it does contain some colorful references to farting. In this forest of mysteries, his schematic, fastidiously executed drawings function as explanatory systems that are funny but at the same time complex and occult. It maps out a non-physical world that is being triggered by events in the common world, but initially only takes shape in Schlammpeitziger's perception by means of impressions buffered in Schlamm-RAM and decoded in quick succession using enormous flows of incoming and outgoing catalytic energy. Like his paintings, these formulas appear similar to seismographic studies: invisible vibrations are recorded and translated into new alphabets. In his search for inspiration, Schlammpeitziger is the eternal pedant, following up the most inconspicuous leads to find different ways of making sense of reality. A magnetist's curiosity drives this folklorist of the self, deep into the thickets of the world. Where others get caught up in well-worn symbolisms or cling to new age rituals with their drones and flickering lights, Schlammpeitziger is taking it easy. He turns his toes inwards, rotates his hips, and beams light signals up into the dark. Jo Zimmermann has the primal funk, a beat that can thread anything together. That certain clap, the short gaps between accents, not to mention the physicality of the bass taking care of the lower levels. In all of this, Schlampeitziger's own movements are an invitation to join his parade of mysteries. For those looking for a future that doesn't reach back into the past but is searching for access to engrossment, Schlammpeitziger's radiation therapy of sound should be just the ticket.

FONDATION Les Cassettes 1980-1983 LP
LP version. In the early 1980s, the French musical duo Fondation, comprising Ivan Coaquette and Anannka Raghel, released three tapes of fantastic electronic music which owed much to the experimentalism of the seventies. Synthesizer, drum computer, solo guitar. Repetitive, meditative, hypnotic -- between ambient and synth pop. Les Cassettes 1980-1983 presents a selection of their finest pieces from this period. During an extended sojourn in Italy around 1970, the multi-instrumentalist Ivan Coaquette contributed to the highly experimental artist collective Musica Elettronica Viva, who were on a mission to liberate music from every form of convention. Back in France, he played in various experimental prog rock bands such as Spacecraft and Delired Cameleon Family. His wife Anannka began learning to play the piano at the age of four, studied music theory, and sang together with her father, a professional vocalist. Her focus subsequently shifted to theater and dance, but she would return to music, taking up piano and singing lessons again and playing in bands like Spacecraft, Pandemonium, Zed, and Chantal Grimm. Between 1980 and 1983 they managed to release three lovingly crafted cassettes. Opting for this format rather than the LP was not solely an economic decision. The duo stated a preference for the longer playing time which cassettes afforded. All three tapes had a running time of around 60 minutes. Fondation created sonic collages underpinned by synthesizer, organ, drum computer, and guitar, enhanced by bursts of noise, field recordings, diverse percussion instruments, and the occasional wordless lament sung by Anannka Raghel. Although synthetic sounds are the "foundation" of all Fondation pieces, synthesizers are not -- in contrast to "classic" Berlin School (Berliner Schule) acts such as Tangerine Dream or Klaus Schulze -- especially prominent in their music. Noteworthy is the use of a Korg X-911 guitar synthesizer, related to the popular black series Korg MS-20 synthesizer. The X-911 transforms a monophonic input signal into synthetic sound. The source instrument for this signal is revealed in its name. Thanks to their use of the X-911 guitar synthesizer, Fondation was successful in blurring the distinction between synthesizers and guitars with a synthetic sound. For this album, Bureau B have selected the most intriguing and illuminating tracks from the three tapes Metamorphoses (1980), Sans Etiquette (1980), and Le Vaisseau Blanc (1983).

PHILLIPS, WASHINGTON Washington Phillips and His Manzarene Dreams CD/BOOK
Restocked; nominated for two 2018 Grammy Awards: Best Historical Album and Best Liner Notes. Dust-to-Digital's inaugural release, 2003's Goodbye, Babylon (DTD 001CD), included two recordings by a mysterious gospel musician from Texas named Washington Phillips, who died in 1954. After fielding inquiries about the hauntingly beautiful songs from listeners around the world, in 2013, Dust-to-Digital checked in with Michael Corcoran, the leading researcher on Phillips, to see if any new information had been uncovered. Indeed, Michael had some leads, but he would need a working budget to track them down. Three years later, in 2016, after combing through various archives and talking with the last surviving people from the Simsboro-area who remembered Phillips, the name of Phillips's homemade instrument (the Manzarene) has been revealed, in addition to the time, place, and manner of his death and many anecdotes about his life. Dust-to-Digital now share this story with Washington Phillips and His Manzarene Dreams, a 76-page hardcover book by Michael Corcoran accompanied by a CD of recordings made by Phillips between 1927 and 1929. To ensure a superior listening experience, the label tracked down the most pristine original copies of Phillips's 78-RPM records, created high-resolution transfers, and had the audio expertly remastered for the best-sounding Phillips reissue to date. Hear the sublime, hypnotic, ethereal music of Washington Phillips in clarity like never before. Washington Phillips and His Manzarene Dreams includes song lyrics, label reproductions, and photos, along with liner notes by Michael Corcoran."The mystery of Washington Phillips begins the first time you hear his sweetly-sung Christian blues, bathed in a celestial haze of notes from an instrument that sounds like a child's music box. His music is a simple prayer, with the blessing in the asking, the singing, the playing. But his ethereal sound is also highly developed to the point of being almost psychedelic. Where did this strange and moving music come from?" --Michael Corcoran

SLY & ROBBIE MEET DUBMATIX Overdubbed LP+CD
LP version. Includes CD; Edition of 999 (numbered). In reggae, all roads lead to the "Riddim Twins", Sly & Robbie. They've been revered as style-defining icons for years, and together and individually have a massive influence on the genre. They are also renowned for their willingness to shatter boundaries and experiment with sounds. Over the past decades, they have never been shy of leaping over into other genres -- for instance, their timeless, super-tight production work for Grace Jones. Now, Sly & Robbie meet Dubmatix. The Canadian producer and multi-instrumentalist got his hands on original Sly & Robbie tracks and spent months crafting this new album, Overdubbed. Dubmatix is celebrated for his out-of-the-box thinking and willingness to experiment, and the album shines with fresh ideas. Sly & Robbie's tunes, which are originally without vocals, haven't simply been dubbed; extracting the individual essence of each track, Dubmatix has added a plethora of tweaks, ideas and individuality, making his musical signature clearly audible. On some tracks, he invited vocalists, including Jay Spaker (John Brown's Body), Screechy Dan, and Prince Alla, to contribute their unique style. As well as Dubmatix himself, the album features many other musicians. The result is an album that shines with eclectic diversity. From roots-oriented tunes to dubs for the clubs, there's a bit of everything. Dubmatix's refreshingly playful, bass-heavy approach creates new highlights while at the same time paying deserved homage to two world-class musicians. Also features Megative and Treson.

KAYN, ROLAND A Little Electronic Milky Way of Sound 16CD BOX
Limited repress, back in. frozen reeds presents the première release of Roland Kayn's 14-hour masterpiece, A Little Electronic Milky Way of Sound, as a 16-CD boxed set. Roland Kayn's truly epic A Little Electronic Milky Way of Sound is both a major late opus and a summation of his vast contribution to the fields of electronic music and composition. Hearing the briefest passage of this piece, assembled in 2009, is enough to date the material of which it is composed back to the era of Kayn's noteworthy LP boxed sets, released on the Colosseum label in the late '70s and early '80s. Kayn's so-called "cybernetic music," to use the term he preferred, resolutely refuses to showcase the methods employed in its creation. The mass of logical interactions and correspondences underpinning the sounds are submerged so deeply below the surface as to defy analysis. One is left only with the results, which grant the listener a profound and unique experience. With A Little Electronic Milky Way of Sound, Kayn provides both a vast sonic territory and the invitation to explore it. From glacial, drone-like vistas to violent staccato sequences, the piece's 22 movements chart the length and breadth of electronic music in as comprehensive a manner as has ever been attempted. The resurgence of the modular synthesizer as a popular musical tool in recent years belies the possibility that its boldest virtuosi may already lie in the instrument's past. In his work in Europe's electronic music studios alongside colleagues such as Leo Küpper and Jaap Vink, Kayn created sonic textures in such abundant variety as to make genre-categorization redundant. Photographs of the one-off, hand-built systems upon which they were realized have inspired the awe of electronic-music connoisseurs for years, but their output has been all too little heard and appreciated. In 2017, Roland Kayn represents perhaps one of the last titanic figures of 20th-century music to receive their due recognition, and to have their vital music restored to availability. Fresh from its 2016 release of Julius Eastman's Femenine (FR 006CD), which spurred on its composer's wider rediscovery and gave rise to performances, broadcasts, and festivals devoted to his work around the world, frozen reeds is proud to initiate the first stage of a similar process for Roland Kayn, which his incredible music so richly deserves. Edition of 750. Audio restoration by Jim O'Rourke. Artwork by Robert Beatty.

DRAKE, NICK Five Leaves Left LP BOX
2013 reissue from Island Records' ReDISCovered series. Deluxe box set containing 180 gram LP with replica shop poster, reprint of handwritten lyrics to two songs, and download voucher. "Nick Drake's stunning 1969 debut album encapsulates a marriage between folk music and the singer-songwriter genre. Part Donovan, part Jim Webb, he articulated an aching romanticism at a time when progressive rock ran rampant. Beautiful melodies and fragrant accompaniment, in particular Robert Kirby's stunning string arrangements, enhance the artist's sense of longing in which warm, but understated, vocals accentuate the album's passive mystery. An aura of existential cool envelops the proceedings, accentuated by Danny Thompson's sonorous bass lines and Drake's poetic imagery. The result is a shimmering, autumnal collection that is reflective and eternally rewarding. This vinyl reissue of Nick Drake's debut Five Leaves Left is pressed on audiophile 180g virgin vinyl remastered from the near-original master tapes by the album's original engineer, John Wood. Although the original tapes were unusable, Wood had made a safety copy of the album in 1969 and those reels were used for this latest session." --Ned Raggett

After cutting his teeth playing with Fela in the '70s and releasing two Afrobeat LPs, Kingsley traveled the globe before finding himself in London. In London he laid down six distinctive electro-funk tunes inspired by African rhythms and music he'd heard through his travels in the States and in Europe. According to Kingsley, the release was well-received at the time, but due to constraints on international marketing, the record remained mostly unknown outside of his homeland. Fast-forward to 2017 and the stage is set for a new global audience to appreciate the distinct sound of Bucknor.

TAPAN Europa 2LP
This double-LP, Europa, is dedicated to and inspired by events in 2015 and 2016, which saw the specter of global crisis come knocking at Europe's doorstep. During this time, more than a million migrants and refugees fled their homes in the Middle East, Northern Africa, sub-Saharan Africa, and other conflict ravaged areas in search of a better life. For many, hopes of a future for themselves and their families lay in continental Europe. As already said about the preceding 12" single with the same name (MALKA 014EP), one of the most well-trodden paths on this journey was the Balkan route, a trail leading through Turkey, Greece, and the former Yugoslavia. This route was not without its dangers, and the dreams of thousands upon thousands were dashed by impassible security fences and discordant EU politics, as one by one they were turned away at borders, or worse, forcibly returned to their countries of origin. Europa was recorded during long jam sessions in Belgrade as the media spotlight started to dim. The city became the purgatorial destination for a large number of migrants, whose journeys had been cut short. This double LP reflects the atmosphere of disillusionment and uncertainty about the future, which descended on the Serbian capital. Dark and melancholic saxophone playing on top of heavy kicks and Mediterranean percussions dominate the epic, 17-minute title track. The collaboration with Jerusalem In My Heart (Radwan Ghazi Moumneh) continues the melancholic atmosphere, adding JIMH's signature delayed ba?lama sounds, to create a 12-minute emotional journey, tearing away abstract concepts of "longing" and "home" with ever growing tension and magnitude. Genre-less, illusive and not easy to categorize, Tapan's debut album on Malka Tuti is an original soundtrack of a fragment in time and space, capturing a moment and transcending it musically for the rest of the world to experience. The first LP is one-sided; side B is silkscreened. Comes in a black-on-black cover, including an insert riso-printed photo.

ROSS & MARVIN GAYE, DIANA Diana & Marvin LP
2016 reissue. Originally released in 1973. 180 gram vinyl. "By the early '70s, Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye were in completely different creative territories. Ross was settling down as a professional diva, while Gaye was pushing his art forward with What's Going On, Trouble Man, and Let's Get It On. What they shared, apart from a mutual admiration, was that they were two of the biggest artists on Motown and that their voices sounded terrific together. So it wasn't entirely surprising that the duo teamed up in 1973 for the Diana & Marvin album. Although the album didn't produce any timeless classics, the results were still very good -- good enough for the record to be one of Ross' best efforts of the era. The highlights are the three singles ('You're a Special Part of Me,' 'My Mistake (Was to Love You),' 'Don't Knock My Love'), but even the weaker tunes are redeemed by the duo's indelible chemistry." --Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music

GAYE, MARVIN In Our Lifetime LP
2016 reissue on 180 gram vinyl. "1981's In Our Lifetime served as Marvin Gaye's final album for Motown before leaving for Columbia Records where he cut his last ever record Midnight Love (1982). After scrapping the bedroom funk album Love Man, Marvin changed gears with the more contemplative In Our Lifetime centered around his internal struggles, our brief time on this earth and of course love. Passionate and personal, the criminally underrated In Our Lifetime features a little bit of everything you want from Marvin Gaye and latter day gems like 'Praise,' 'Life Is For Learning' and 'Heavy Love Affair' stand as consummate bookends to his Motown supremacy."

UK producer Laurence Guy delivers his debut for Mule Musiq: three house-not-house grooves enlarged with a deep musicality. So far the boy from London has one album and six EPs on such labels as Church, Rose, or Cin Cin under his wings. All his three tunes for Mule Musiq feature a piano that spreads deeply haunting melodies. Combined with house rhythms and a warm oscillating atmosphere, he manages to arrange an EP that is reminiscent of the musical art of producers like Andres or Portable. Deep house beyond the clichés, charged with bewitching melodies and a heartiness with staying power.

CARTER, CHRIS The Spaces Between LP
2017 repress; Grey vinyl. Originally recorded between 1974 and 1978 at Industrial Records studio in London, The Space Between was first released as a 90-minute cassette in 1980 on Throbbing Gristle's Industrial Records label. It wasn't until 1991 that it was again released by Mute Records on CD. For those who may not know, Chris Carter is one of the founding members of Throbbing Gristle, partners with Cosey Fanni Tutti (knows as Carter-Tutti and formerly recording as Chris & Cosey) who has been working with sound for over 40 years. Although tracks from The Space Between have appeared on numerous compilations since its release, the album has never been available on vinyl -- until now. This new vinyl edition on Optimo Music, now retitled The Spaces Between, doesn't include all the tracks on the original album but has been enhanced and remastered from the original two-track master tapes and has new cover artwork especially for this release. JD Twitch has this to say about the release: "The original release featured fifteen tracks. As I wanted to have a reasonably loud vinyl pressing, I have picked my favorites to appear here (not an easy task to narrow it down). In addition, there is a bonus track 'Climbing' which was recorded around the same time that was released by Coil's Geoff Ruston on his Men With Deadly Dreams cassette in 1981. One of the first-ever recordings to use an 808 drum machine, it still sounds as if it is from tomorrow. In my opinion, these are some of the key recordings in the history of electronic music. They were made using very basic equipment at a time when there was no blueprint for what electronic music could and should be. There is a beauty, an emotion and an imagination present here that is lacking in a lot of modern machine music. This music is as vital and wondrous today as it was four decades ago." All tracks have been remastered by Chris Carter in 2009 for this release. Musically, it's an electronic soundtrack for a sleazy sci-fi movie, with moments of uplifting beauty combined with bits of claustrophobic mania. Amazing stuff.

Optimo Music don't generally do limited edition releases, but when The Golden Filter did these extra mixes of "End Of Times" from their EP of the same name (OM 040EP, 2017) the label decided to press a small run of 12" singles. The original single version is a future synth classic. These new dub versions take it to the dancefloor. They are considerably extended, dubbed-out, and add extra dynamics and ecstatic synth power with hints of the original vocal. There is a slo-mo version at 103 bpm and a faster version at 118bpm. There is also a "Drone-Apella" version too.

AYERS, ROY Coffy LP
2015 reissue. "A blaxploitation masterpiece on par with Curtis Mayfield's Superfly and Isaac Hayes' Shaft, Roy Ayers' soundtrack for the 1973 Pam Grier vehicle Coffy remains one of the most intriguing and evocative film scores of its era or any other. Ayers' signature vibes create atmospheres and textures quite distinct from your average blaxploitation effort, embracing both heavy, tripped-out funk ('Brawling Broads') and vividly nuanced soul-jazz ('Aragon'). The vocal numbers are no less impressive, in particular the rapturous opening cut, 'Coffy Is the Color.' Richly cinematic grooves, as inventive and cohesive as any of Ayers' vintage Ubiquity LPs. Highly recommended." --Jason Ankeny, All Music

VA Pantsula! The Rise Of Electronic Dance Music In South Africa, 1988-90 2LP
Late '80s South African dancefloor winners only! Selected by DJ Okapi and Antal, the Pantsula! compilation holds tracks by Jivaro, The Hard Workers, Ayobayo Band, S.Y.B., and many more. The 12 tracks selected for Pantsula! come from a very unique, very different time and place. They represent the birth of electronic dance music in South Africa, through the songs of one particular independent label from the time: Music Team. The sound represents the culmination of the bubblegum era, when South Africa's disco artists outgrew their American influences and forged an increasingly electronic and "local" pop sound. Evolving over time since long before the '80s, the distinctly South African subculture of pantsula is more closely associated with an attitude, a style, and a signature dance, rather than any specific sound. In the late 1980s and early '90s, Pantsula was also the name given to a new type of dance music taking over the streets of South Africa, influenced by earlier bubblegum and the rise of shangaan disco, but with a far broader appeal and a harder, purely electronic sound. This is the sharp electronic music that fueled the local Pantsula dances during the '80s and '90s. A must have for fans of bubblegum and kwaito music. Also features The Equals, Jivaro, Scotch Band, Kakappa, Spirro, Rush, Linda Ziqubu, Chaka, and La Viva.

ALMOND, DARREN All Things Pass LP
Darren Almond's record All Things Pass, coproduced by MUDAM, Luxembourg's contemporary art museum, and the French publishing house Shelter Press, highlights the musical dimension of the artist's eponymous video installation, shot in 2012 in Rajasthan. All Things Pass, presented at Mudam within the framework of the exhibition Darren Almond, Timescape (11.02. -- 14.05.2017), has for central subject the Chand Baori, a stepwell built in the ninth century in Rajasthan. A meditation on the transient and cyclic nature of all things, this work is based on the combining of several sequences filmed at different times of the day and night, during rainy and sunny seasons, and on the occasion of an annual festival. It reflects the synchronicities which tie together celestial phenomena and terrestrial events, the links that exist between the different time scales, thus echoing the position that these notions hold in the conception of time in India. The four musical sequences, presented here in an autonomous way, activate the correspondences that exist between the cycles that regulate cosmic and human existence on different registers, visually and musically. As part of both the tradition of music in Northern India and an experimental approach, the musical response of the four musicians, the passages they perform between different rãgas, the rhythmic and melodic motifs they deploy in time, the contrasts and changes in rhythm with which they mark their improvisations, embody the temporal dimension, as well as the specific setup Almond employed during recording. Equipped with a shotgun microphone, he came close to the instruments, carrying out the aural equivalent of zooms and close-ups, which are reminiscent of the fragmentary way he visually approached the Chand Baori. There is sometimes fulgurant telescoping between microcosm and macrocosm, between the details of sounds and their links with the universe. The record is accompanied by a booklet which brings together an unpublished text written by the curator of the exhibition Timescape, Christophe Gallois, and images illustrating the work. The design was realized by the London based Studio Fernando Gutiérrez in order to create a unique artist object.

JAGUWAR Ringthing LP+CD
LP version. Includes CD. Jaguwar began life as a trio, formed in Berlin by Oyèmi and Lemmy in 2012. Their drummer Chris signed up in 2014 to complete the current line-up. Thus far they have released two EPs on the US label Prospect Records and have played countless shows in the UK, Denmark, France, Serbia, Germany, and beyond. They have shared the stage with acts like We Were Promised Jetpacks, Japandroids, and The Megaphonic Thrift, resulting in many happy faces and ringing ears. In 2016, they sent a brief e-mail to Tapete Records with music attached, asking to support The Telescopes on tour. Any band keen on supporting The Telescopes was sure to spark the label's curiosity and, before long, the two Jaguwar EPs had become firm favorites at the Tapete office. File under: wall of sound, shoegaze, noise & pop. It is by no means injurious to surmise that My Bloody Valentine have had (and continue to have) some small, yet significant, degree of influence on Jaguwar. In 2017, armed with an impressive array of effect devices, guitars, bass, and amps, backed up by a prodigious supply of coffee and cigarettes, they decamped to the Tritone Studio in the idyllic environs of Hof, Bavaria, to record what would become Ringthing. Typically for the genre, they crafted layer upon sonic layer. No less typically, deadlines were not always adhered to. But it has been well worth the wait: more noise than ever and even more pop. "Noise and detail" is how the band describes their sound. Ringthing is a shimmering, reverberating, crashing monolith of an album. Jaguwar sway from combining saccharine pop with Amphetamine Reptilian noise to sounding like a serendipitous encounter between The Cure and Ride. Prepare to expect the unexpected from their meandering song structures. Successfully unshackled from their paragons, the trio's sui generis sound is destined to be heard all over the world. At thunderous volume!

SPC ECO Calm LP
The London based duo SPC ECO, consisting of Rose Berlin (vocals, lyricist) and Dean Garcia (producer, bass, multi-instrumentalist), release their new album Calm on Tapete. A decade on from the SPC ECO debut release 3-D (2009), the listener finds themselves in the wake of Calm, the band's ninth full-length album release. As with everything including the title of this record SPC ECO is multifaceted, they do their own thing and always have. From the opening song "Out Of Sight", you'll be reminded of the musical roots of this band, that being the '90s pioneers of genre-blurring, Curve, and their musical director Dean Garcia. As you recover from the opening song, you're treated to the multi-layered glow of "All The Voices" and "Waking Up Again" as the voice of Rose Berlin swoons (as it always has) you will fall into the Godspeed-like "Rising Up" as it shrouds you with nocturnal sonic dust rolling onto the almost jaunty tones of "Pearls" leading seamlessly into the albums trip gaze flavored "Who Are You Now?" and "Ghosts" all the way through to the closing and forbidding dark and bass-heavy lilt of "Hours" which is the perfect song to close to any album. Calm is a coming of age record; ten years after SPC ECO started to release albums, you see a band with no concern for anything other than to make a record they want to make, no hidden agendas present. There are very few bands or artists who are able to move with such grace and confidence through what seems like 50 different genres some of which you have never heard of, which is something we've come to expect and accept from any SPC ECO record, you're never quite sure what you'll get, but you know you want it. Calm it is and Calm it is not. Blue vinyl; Edition of 500.

COLTRANE, JOHN A Love Supreme: The Complete Masters 3LP
2016 release. "Until now, the complete picture of what happened on those two days, including all takes, overdubs, and even studio chatter, has been unavailable. That changes when Verve Music Group proudly releases A Love Supreme: The Complete Masters, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the release of this seminal recording. It includes this alternate version, taken from reels from the personal collection of John Coltrane and originally recorded in incredible sonic detail by Rudy Van Gelder, along with revised notes and detailed information on these amazing lost sessions. With the availability of long-lost session reels, A Love Supreme: The Complete Masters brings together all existing recordings and written outlines for the first time to paint the most comprehensive and accurate picture of the A Love Supreme story. It reveals how Coltrane's masterpiece came together, from its initial conception as a nine-piece performance - it turns out the original plan was for a nine-piece band, including three Latin percussionists - to how it changed and developed in the studio. While the 2002 edition of A Love Supreme did include some of the music recorded at the second session, The Complete Masters is the first to feature all six takes of 'Acknowledgement,' the opening section of the suite, in their entirety, providing a deeper understanding and appreciation of how Coltrane would allow music to mature in the studio."

FLYING SAUCER ATTACK In Search Of Spaces 2LP
"First ever reissue and first time on vinyl for this unique Flying Saucer Attack live album, expanded with additional material and a new side four mix from Jim O'Rourke. Produced in collaboration with Dave Pearce / FSA and Bruce Russell (compiler of the original CD release for his Corpus Hermeticum label), featuring new artwork by Bruce Russell as well. While rightly known for the folk-influenced songs and spacey instrumentals of their proper albums, the briefly active live version of FSA unexpectedly delivered a blistering wave of electric sound. Recorded at various shows in 1994, In Search Of Spaces heaves with long passages of feedback guitar racket, broken up by sections of surging rock music. The live band focused almost exclusively on visceral, trebly guitar noise-- which, while always a key element in their sound, was greeted by audiences with total mystification (and often disapproval). Following a few brief attempts to settle a lineup and play songs from their records, Dave Pearce / FSA abandoned live performance altogether, leaving behind this album (and the barely available P. A. Blues CDR) as the sole document of his in-person delivery. Originally compiled and released in 1996, this reissue adds several minutes of music back to the original program that had been edited out by FSA for being 'too rock.' For side four, Jim O'Rourke revisited the original 1994 live tapes and has made a spooky and brooding new mix of music exclusive to this release."

Heed The Call! collects the best New Zealand material from the Afro-tastic days of 1973 to 1983. This collection mines some overlooked nuggets from their respective catalogs alongside lesser known acts like The Pink Family, with their non-secular floor sizzler 'Don't Give Your Life Away,' the gritty gospel soul of Sonia & Skee, and many others. These are the songs that drove a country from black and white to technicolor, and, being a scene born in total isolation, it took turns that weren't heard anywhere else.
