FENSTER The Room CD
The Room, Fenster's fourth album and their first release on Altin Village & Mine, marks the beginning of a new chapter for the band. After releasing three albums, a feature length film, and touring extensively throughout Europe and North America since 2012, The Room serves as an entry point into their sonic evolution. The essential characteristic of the band is transformation - within and between genres, albums, and songs. Their sound is a window framing psychedelic, groovy, hypnogogic, playful pop. Fenster is Elias Hock, Jonathan Jarzyna, Lucas Ufo, and JJ Weihl. Their mission in creating this album was to compose and arrange every song together in a room. It is an experiment in collective creativity that pushed all of them to transcend their individuality and create something together which is greater than the sum of its parts. The songs were tracked live in a house where the band ate, slept, and played together. They were intent on finding and locking into a human groove, one open to imperfection, while still maintaining tightness among them. They wanted to make the songs feel alive, as if the listener were present in the room with them. The album's title track "The Room" opens the record like a rollercoaster ride. There is a tension in the first bars that ties us to earth, a minimal riff that guides us to the first chorus where we feel we are slowly lifting into the air. By the time we reach the second chorus, it has exploded into a space far away from the planet's gravitational pull. The band's use of juxtaposition is not just a way of channeling a vast library of musical genres and concepts, but also a means of expression. Combining tender pop melodies with kraut-beats, disco grooves and psychedelia frees the band from any one sound and creates a genre all its own. This playfulness is especially vibrant in songs like "Rhythm A" and "Haha Lol", which deconstruct and fuse together disparate moments of explosive rock, tender harmonies, percussion made of splashing water, voices from a radio, and electric piano. Thus, the whole process of making a record is about capturing a moment in time. This is the record they made at this point in time, all together, in a room.

D'AMATO, JOE Death Smiles On A Murderer BLU-RAY
"A haunting and dreamlike gothic horror/giallo hybrid, Death Smiles On A Murderer is a compelling early work from the legendary sleaze and horror film director Joe D'Amato (Anthropophagus, Emanuelle In America), here billed under his real name Aristide Massaccesi. Set in Austria in the early 1900s, Death Smiles On A Murderer stars Ewa Aulin, (Candy, Death Laid an Egg) as Greta, a beautiful young woman abused by her brother Franz (Luciano Rossi, Death Walks In High Heels, The Conformist) and left to die in childbirth by her illicit lover, the aristocrat Dr. von Ravensbrück (Giacomo Rossi Stuart, Kill, Baby... Kill!). Bereft with grief, Franz reanimates his dead sister using a formula engraved on an ancient Incan medallion. Greta then returns as an undead avenging angel, reaping revenge on the Ravensbrück family and her manically possessive brother. Presented here in a stunning 2K restoration, D'Amato's film is a stately and surreal supernatural mystery which benefits from an achingly mournful score by Berto Pisano, several shocking scenes of gore, and a typically sinister performance from Klaus Kinski as a morbid doctor."

BETA BAND, THE The Best Of The Beta Band 2CD
Arguably one of the most acclaimed and loved bands of the past 20 years, by both fans and their musical peers alike, The Beta Band formed in St. Andrews, Scotland, in 1996. Their unique musical and aesthetic approach to everything they did set them far apart from their musical contemporaries. Together for a relatively short period of time, the three albums and three EPs they released between 1996 and 2004 would nonetheless help define them as one of the most exciting and cherished bands of their generation. After acquiring the Beta Band's catalog last year, Because Music will reissue their releases. Alongside The Three EPs (20th Anniversary Remaster) (BEC 5543617), they start with the double-CD, The Best Of The Beta Band. The release compiles all their best hits and includes a live show recorded at the Shepherd's Bush Empire (London) in 2004.

79.5 Boy Don't Be Afraid/I Stay, You Stay 7"
"With the announcement of their long awaited, highly anticipated debut full length release, 79.5 drops a new and revamped version of their underground classic 'Boy Don't Be Afraid'. Producer Leon Michels took it back in the studio and made it into a proper two stepper, slowed it down a touch, and added percussion and Wurly. The result is another sure shot side for the dance floor from one of New York City's most adored underground acts. Like many of the girl group classics, 'Boy Don't Be Afraid' is a song about love. But beyond that, it is a song about being, being hopeful, being romantic, being brave. A romantic stance and a declaration of love through melody. The B Side, 'I Stay, You Stay' is a beautiful number about meeting in the middle and a testament to a woman's intuition."

TONIUTTI, MASSIMO Il Museo Selvatico 2LP
Black Truffle present the first reissue of a true underground masterpiece, Massimo Toniutti's Il Museo Selvatico ("The Wild Museum"), originally self-released on LP in 1991. Like his better-known brother Giancarlo -- whose classic 1985 Broken Flag LP La Mutazione was reissued by Black Truffle in 2015 (BT 014LP) -- Massimo Toniutti was active in the vibrant underground industrial/noise scene of the 1980s, contributing to releases on legendary labels such as Broken Flag and RRR and self-releasing a series of cassettes between 1984 and 1988. Existing in a private world apart from the noise and dark industrial tropes of many of his contemporaries, Toniutti's Il Museo Selvatico is an entirely singular work of domestic electro-acoustic exploration. Made up primarily of what Toniutti calls "small and rare noises" or sonic "knick-knacks" recorded between 1987 and 1990, the five pieces that make up the original LP usher us into a crepuscular space populated by mysterious traces of everyday life. Toniutti weaves a loose net of distant clanks, dull thuds, metallic resonance, and skittering percussive sounds, allowing the sounds to breathe against a backdrop of near-silent atmosphere. Although the haunted ambience recalls the work of contemporaries like Organum, Toniutti generally steers clear of long tones and drones, preferring to arrange brief, sometimes staccato sonic objects into patters of repeating figures and isolated events whose overall compositional shape remains somehow ungraspable. Although glimpses of recognizable location recordings and instrumental sounds can occasionally be made out, for most of the record the sources of the sounds you hear remain teasingly mysterious, an abstracted memory of everyday actions and atmospheres. I Museo Selvatico is accompanied here by an additional LP of material recorded at the same time, composed especially for this reissue into two side-long suites that inhabit the same haunted space as the original LP while occasionally making use of more maximal compositional strategies. Essential listening for fans of Organum, Nurse With Wound, Christoph Heemann, and the tradition of outsider musique concrete. Comes as a double-LP in a lavish gatefold with printed inner sleeves featuring archival images and notes. Remastered and cut at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin.

HENNIES, SARAH Embedded Environments LP
Repressed. Through a remarkable and singular body of work, over the course of the last decade, the composer and percussionist Sarah Hennies has slowly emerged as one of the definitive voices of her generation. Initially coming to focus as a member of Austin's experimental music scene during the early 2000s, before relocating to upstate New York, with a delicate, clattering grace, she has continuously offered vision, conceptual armature, crucial understanding for the contemporary proximity of avant-garde, and experimental practice. Entirely of her moment, she defies what we know and expect, owing allegiance to none. Hennies has been darting around the edges of modern composition for years, but that world has never been an entirely comfortable fit, nor is it the best framework and context within which to approach her work. She is better understood in the proximity of figures like Jim O'Rourke, a creator of a countercultural music, which incorporates everything, while owing loyalty to none. Hennies could equally be framed with composers like Steve Reich, Arthur Russell, Julius Eastman, and Mary Jane Leach, all of whom struggled to create more inclusive musical hybrids, attacking the institutions as they stood. As these figures once were, Hennies's position within the contemporary landscape is challenging and requires work to understand. Her music isn't always what it seems. What is unquestionable is that it is entirely of this moment and not a product of appropriation or pastiche. Comprised of two site-specific compositions -- "Foragers" and "Embedded Environments" -- recorded in a silo in Buffalo, New York, these recordings are a crowning moment within the long arc of Hennies's practice. Each work is composed for a quartet of percussionists -- Jason Bauers, Tim Feeney, and Bob Fullex, with Hennies contributing on vibraphone and percussion. While "Foragers" and "Embedded Environments" are products of Hennies's quest for elemental meaning and relationships within sound -- those which lay beyond traditional understandings of structure, beat, and tone, here there is a third and unfamiliar actor in play: the space itself. Activated by the silo for which they were composed, Hennies's broken, staggering rhythms and resonances are offered new freedom through a seductive Trojan horse, pushing them toward even more complex and jarring depths. "Foragers" and "Embedded Environments" delves into a realm of ideas, proximity, and place, offering a new vision for our sonic present, and what may be to come. Edition of 300.

KAMMERFLIMMER KOLLEKTIEF There Are Actions Which We Have Neglected And Which Never Cease To Call Us CD
After twenty years of Kammerflimmer Kollektief, with ten albums thus far, the Karlsruhe combo here guide their listeners through seven pieces in which a listening space emerges at the intersection of improvisation and composition, a space where certitude slips out of reach, oscillating furiously between cut-up and palimpsest before it disappears altogether. There Are Actions Which We Have Neglected And Which Never Cease To Call Us is one for the fearless, wordlessly conjuring up enchanted places in the richest of tones, simultaneously confronting its listeners with magic which captivates, and the realization that they may never be released from its spell. Mirror images come into view, images of ourselves driven away, tormented by feelings of guilt, frozen in powerlessness, even when you believe you are still moving. The wetlands of the Upper Rhine plain, Cuernavaca in the Mexican highlands, a southern California stretch of Pacific coast, the Baltic Coast in Mecklenburg; haunted places, scenes of melancholy, repeatedly searching for acts of liberation. This may not be the record to set you free, but it offers a soundtrack for a melancholic state. One thing is clear when it comes to the Kammerflimmer Kollektief: regardless of any interpretive traps snapping shut, here is something which cannot be voiced; whichever labels are stuck on the Karlsruhe collective, they all feel patently unsatisfactory. Like all music, their music can neither be narrowed down to concepts nor fixed semantically. It cannot be organized as language, yet it is no more pre-conceptual in its existence. These carefully unconsidered atheist jam supplications lead you into the darkest corners of your souls, out of the night and into the night. The bass of Johannes Frisch creaks and hums, evolving into barely discernible undergrowth with a life of its own, yet becoming the foundation of everything, a basso continuo, constantly leading into nothingness. Heike Aumüller's harmonium is elementally a wind which has much to tell us about life, but even more about what tortures us, leaves you restless, while Thomas Weber's whirring guitars and gadgets drag us into a wondrously reverberating space of special effects. Amidst all the excitement which awaits you on this short journey, it is worth remembering that as the shaman hangs out his magic roots to dry in the morning as preparation for the ritual ecstasy of the evening, so the Kollektief follow an everyday principle in their own ritual.

Liner notes by Michel Faber (Under The Skin (2000), The Crimson Petal And The White). All audio, previously unreleased, has been remastered from the original tapes and is exclusive to this release.Michel Faber: "Imagine how out-of-step with the dominant culture Coil were when they unveiled themselves in the Air Gallery to perform A Slow Fade To Total Transparency. Subtitled: How To Destroy Angels, the music -- a backing track prepared by John Balance, John Gosling and Peter Christopherson -- bears only scant resemblance to the How To Destroy Angels 12" that Coil would release as their debut vinyl the following year. Instead of the meditative ritual gongs of the 12", what we hear here is a restless, queasy melange of industrial noise, its eerie whistles the perfect backdrop for Marc Almond as he recites a bitter tirade against an ex-lover."

Their second full-length is a furious dance with the demons -- from positive spirit soul jazz "Land Of The Arum Flower", while the melody reminding to Ethiopian jazz of the '60s, to the mad, outstanding "Sandia", or beautiful weird "Safar" Web Web have had an intense year, they've played dozens of live concerts, where they proved their professionalism, closeness, power and spirituality once more. NASCIMBENE, MARIO Uomini E Lupi 2CD
2012 release. Digitmovies release for the first time ever on a double-CD set Mario Nascimbene's complete original soundtrack for the movie Uomini E Lupi ("Men And Wolves"), directed by Giuseppe De Santis in 1956. In a town of Abruzzo all the best hunters meet for a race of wolf hunting. The winner's prize is twenty thousand liras. Giovanni arrives with his beautiful wife Teresa and hopes to capture a specimen alive which can then be sold to a zoo. Ricuccio pretends to be a "luparo" (wolf hunter), but he's a blowhard mostly interested in winning the girls. Giovanni's death and the descent of a pack of wolves that threatens the village will change everything. It has been reported that the shooting occurred near the village of Scanno. In several recent screenings of the film in the towns of Scanno, people remembered that the shooting had occurred on this site in 1956. It has also been reported by several reliable sources that the original length of the film was 3,300 meters, but the production insisted on a length which should not exceed 2,800 meters. De Santis refused each cut and left the work. Then editing, music, and mixing were not controlled by the director anymore who -- unsuccessfully -- tried to remove his name from the movie credits. Mario Nascimbene had already collaborated with the filmmaker before. Mario Nascimbene (1913-2002) is undoubtedly one of the greatest international names in film music, creator of experimental sounds with the invention of his prodigious "Mixerama", the first Italian composer who was able to cross the golden gates of Hollywood in 1954 for the movie La Contessa Scalza ("The Barefoot Contessa"). Uomini E Lupi is an extremely dramatic symphonic score which also includes popular instrumental themes for harmonica and guitar and with mixed choir. The author wanted to create a "sound design" with the steps of wolves in the snow, like a savage, tribal tam-tam, of a rebellious nature which melds with a traditional symphonic orchestra beautifully conducted by Franco Ferrara. For this double-CD, Digitmovies have used the master tapes in mono of the recording sessions from 1956 well preserved until today which allowed the label to use every note recorded, including alternate versions, choral pieces, and pieces with solo male voice.

ROZSA, MIKLOS Providence CD
2013 release. Digitmovies, with the collaboration of Sugar Group, make available this premiere release of the complete score as a tribute to the musical genius of Miklós Rózsa. To realize this ambitious project, Digitmovies utilized a first-generation, full-stereo master tape of the original LP soundtrack album, augmented by first-generation stereo masters (preserved in the Sugar Music archives). In addition to the fifteen tracks from the album presentation (released in France on Pema Music and reissued on CD in Italy, Japan, and the United States) Digitmovies' CD includes, as bonus tracks, all the remaining cues from the master tapes. With the assistance of Doug Raynes from The Miklós Rózsa Society, Digitmovies wanted to produce a deluxe edition digipack that would pay homage not only to the wonderful musical artistry of the legendary Miklós Rózsa but to the great director Alain Resnais and a film that has left its mark on the history of international cinema. Providence was a multi-award winner at the 1978 César Awards, including Best Music, Best Film, and Best Director. Sir John Gielgud also won the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actor.

RUSTICHELLI, CARLO Signore E Signori CD
2013 release. Digitmovies, in collaboration with Gruppo Sugar, releases on CD, Carlo Rustichelli's complete original soundtrack for the movie Signore E Signori ("The Birds, The Bees And The Italians"), directed in 1965 by Pietro Germi. The film, set in a small town in the region of Veneto, is divided into three episodes where the frame story is set among a circle of friends. The first of these tells of the fake impotence of a sly womanizer who confided his troubles to a friend who is also a doctor. The doctor doesn't resist the temptation to spread the delicious novelty everywhere, but then he has to regret it: the false confidence had only been made for the simple reason that he should divert his jealous eyes from his young and dizzy wife. The second episode stars a modest bank clerk, plagued by an unbearable wife and dreams of a new life with a willing cashier in a bar. The man's wife is very skillful in creating a scandal so that, in addition to losing his lover, her husband finds himself without a job and resignedly returns to the detested family. In the third episode a girl from the countryside goes down to town to do some shopping. She stumbles upon some local playboys who profit from her. The father denounces them as the girl is still a minor. The scandal spreads like wildfire: people and resources are put into action to quell the rumor. At the end the parent of the girl, persuaded by a large sum and the personal sacrifice of the wife of one of the accused, withdraws the complaint. For Digitmovies CD, first generation mono master tapes of the recording session were used that allowed the label, in addition to re-creating the album of that time, to find out about 25 minutes of unreleased material. Carlo Rustichelli wrote an OST for a small ensemble with lounge flavor featuring an allegretto theme in a circus and amusement park style, a perfect background to the gossip of the protagonists, which is frequently reprised and alternated with lounge music, and a romantic love theme which can also be found among the unreleased material. In the original masters we have also discovered two rare stereo versions of the main theme and love theme. A proper rescue and preservation as an homage to the Italian silver age.

FABOR, GIORGIO Poveri Ma Belli CD
2013 release. Digitmovies publish, for the first time on CD, George Fabor's original soundtrack for the comedy Poveri Ma Belli ("Poor But Beautiful"), directed in 1957 by Dino Risi. In a house located in one of the oldest districts of Rome, live two young bullies, Romulus and Salvatore, boasters and braggarts, not work lovers, intent on finding easy love. Romulus is the lifeguard at a beach on the Tiber and Salvatore is a record store assistant. The two are close friends and their families are also tied. Not far from their home, a workshop is opened by a tailor who has a beautiful daughter, Giovanna. The two young men court the girl, who works in her father's workshop and does not dislike their advances. The two are very different in temperament: Romulus is jovial and playful, while Salvatore is slightly bitter and jealous. Each of them sees himself as the chosen one, when in actual fact Giovanna is in doubt and is unable to decide. At the end, she resolves to promise herself to Salvatore, but when Romulus pretends to kill himself through the disappointment of losing her, things go back to how they were before, until Giovanna meets a previous boyfriend, with whom she is still in love. Romulus and Salvatore are disappointed, but do hesitate to console themselves: each of the two survives the crisis, each one courting the sister of the other. At the time, an album with thirteen songs and a 45 EP with five selections were released. For Digitmovies' CD, the label had access not only to the master of the extremely rare original album, but also to the recording session in mono (the reels have been preserved in excellent condition after 56 years), which allowed them to include also the whole OST in the film version, since for the 33rpm, the composer Fabor had created an assembly of various takes, with the aim of offering a better listening experience. The author created an orchestral OST that honors the city of Rome and its people, alternating a melodious main theme with a pleasant popular atmosphere and dance tunes such as mambo and rock 'n' roll. This CD is intended as a sincere tribute to the golden age of Italian cinema and as a truly rare OST to be enjoyed by all film buffs and music lovers across the world.

MANNINO, FRANCO Ludwig / Morte A Venezia 2CD
Digitmovies releases, on a double-CD set, Franco Mannino's original soundtracks from Luchino Visconti's movies Ludwig and Morte A Venezia ("Death In Venice"). This edition include three inedit tracks from the movie Ludwig. For the film Ludwig Visconti chose a classic soundtrack, inserting classical music songs by Richard Wagner, Jacques Offenbach, Robert Schumann, and Frank Mendelssohn. He also had the composer Franco Mannino create the transcriptions for the piano, orchestra, and other instruments for some songs by the above-mentioned composers. For the film Death In Venice, Visconti chose a classic type soundtrack, inserting pieces of classical music by Gustav Mahler, Modesto Mussorgsky, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Armando Gil. He also had the composer Franco Mannino create the transcriptions for the piano, orchestra, and other instruments for some songs by the above-mentioned composers. Franco Mannino (1924-2005) was an opera composer and orchestra conductor who made adaptations of the most notable composers of classical music. As a soundtrack composer he won the David di Donatello award for the music from The Innocent ("L'innocente") by Visconti. Together they also created the music for Ludwig, Death In Venice, Bellissima, and Conversation Piece. His other soundtracks include Woman Of Rome ("La Romana") by Luigi Zampa, Beatrice Cenci by Lucio Fulci, Lust Of The Vampire ("I Vampiri") by Mario Bava and Riccardo Freda, and Identikit by Giuseppe Patroni Griffi.

ROZSA, MIKLOS Sodoma & Gomorra 2CD
2007 release. Digitmovies present the first reissue in digipack format of the CD dedicated to the important international musician Miklós Rózsa releasing in a double-CD of the full stereo original motion picture score from the 1962 movie Sodom And Gomorrah, directed by Robert Aldrich (and Sergio Leone as second unit director). This double-disc set also celebrates the 52nd anniversary of the movie and its musical score. Miklós Rózsa's name is closely linked to hundreds of scores for romantic and dramatic cinema exploding effectively during the golden age of Hollywood. Miklós Rózsa's score was recorded in the studio "A" of RCA in Rome in June 1962. Rózsa has always been a researcher specialized in world music history. In the case of Sodom And Gomorrah he had performed deep research into Yemeni and Babylonian Jewish music so as to create the dances and prayer songs for choir in their original language. Thence the orchestral themes of pure fantasy are combined with motifs that have antique origins. For what concerns the OST discography of Sodom And Gomorrah, this score has been issued on 33rpm long-playing record by RCA in different countries all over the world. The first CD release of this OST in mono sound was issued on Cambria then the original American LP was reissued on the CD by BMG in stereo. The first complete and stereo version was issued in 1986 on a double-LP set. The realization of Digitmovies' double-CD was made possible -- once again -- thanks to the generous help of C.A.M. authorizing this reissue of this memorable OST including the six rare bonus tracks discovered on the original session master tapes: five alternative choral pieces and a Jewish dance piece that were recorded during the 1962 session but not used in the final version of the movie. Despite careful digital restoration and remastering some anomalies pre-existing on the original sources remain.

RUSTICHELLI, CARLO Alfredo, Alfredo CD
2014 release. Digitmovies release Carlo Rustichelli's complete original soundtrack for the film Alfredo, Alfredo. After already exploring the musical side of the films by Pietro Germi and the complete OSTs by Carlo Rustichelli for the films Seduced And Abandoned ("Sedotta E Abbandonata"), Divorce Italian Style ("Divorzio All'Italiana), and The Birds, The Bees, And The Italians ("Signore E Signori"), it is now Alfredo, Alfredo's turn. At the time, CAM had released an LP in Italy and in Japan with 20 tracks. Then in 1993 it was released for the first time on CD with extra tracks, but with the sound filtered in Dolby Surround. For Digitmovies' CD, the label used the stereo master tapes from the original album (without Dolby) and they discovered around 21 extra minutes of material. Directed in 1972 by Pietro Germi, Alfredo, Alfredo starred Dustin Hoffman, Stefania Sandrelli, Carla Gravina, Saro Urzì, Duilio Del Prete, Enzo Cannavale. Alfredo (Hoffman) works in a bank and is in love with a pharmacist named Mariarosa (Sandrelli). With the help of a friend (Del Prete), he is able to start a relationship with Mariarosa and eventually marry her. But Mariarosa's tendency to be possessive reaches extremes and causes Alfredo to lose his friend, his father, and his independence. When she becomes pregnant, she sends Alfredo to sleep in the basement, but at least in this way he's able to get back his freedom. During one of his nightly wanderings outside, Alfredo meets Carolina (Gravina), a nice girl who is willing to love him without any constraints. She becomes his lover and he runs to her when he finds out Mariarosa's pregnancy was only the result her hysteria. The idea of returning to his previous hell throws him into despair. He becomes a supporter of legalizing divorce and when this happens, his marriage is legally dissolved. Now that he is free again, Carolina puts pressure on him to marry her. Once again Alfredo finds himself tangled up in matrimonial ties. The entire film is told using flashbacks to a courtroom. The film won the David di Donatello prize in 1973 for best film.

VA Deep Love 2018 2x12"
Dirt Crew's seventh Deep Love compilation might be their most complete in sound and flow. The ten pieces on this sampler blend in perfectly with that laidback "late" summer mood. The label welcome yet again some new acts with the likes of Jaxx Madicine, Ouer, Times Are Ruff, and S3A. Dirt Crew cross many borders not only in genres but also country wise. From the heavy disco-sampled jam by French producer S3A to the jazz- and funk-laden epos of the Italian three-piece Jaxx Madicine over to the Dutch deep house boys Times Are Ruff who are well-known from their label, and finally to the Berlin duo Ouer who also run their own label and released with Heist Recordings, delivering an ecstatic electronic floating tune here. This is all completed by some excellence from long time Dirt Crew artists. 25 Places have been with Dirt Crew for many years now and their two EPs have gotten so much love from the deeper deep house community. Here they drop an epic almost IDM techno-like tune that closes this great album in the best possible way. The label's Icelandic stalwart Felix Leifur drops a heavy-hitter named "Buster". Harry Wolfman and Ponty Mython, who need no introduction, add electro/disco/electronica-fueled cuts to form a great middle part to this mix of tunes. Harry going in very smooth and relaxed, something else than his usual house workout. Ponty Mython drops an irresistible "good times" indie acid track in his unique "free" style. Last, Dan Only and key-wizard Lorenz Rhode. Another beautifully smooth cut from Dan Only -- a smart cross over in techno and house with a distinct relaxed groove and atmosphere to it. Lorenz is back here after his super successful first offering to the Deep Love series in 2017. Deep Love couldn't have started this compilation off with a better joint than "Marakuja".

JAY GLASS DUBS Plegnic LP
Jay Glass Dubs sublimates Athenian distress and ennui into plasmic dub ether on Plegnic, his lushly evolved first collection of new material for Ecstatic, following from on from Dubs (ELP 032LP, 2017). Where Dubs was a set of his earliest, hard-to-find tape releases, deconstructing and rebuilding Jamaican dub with Musique Concrete production methods and a lingering air of inspiration from classic 4AD, new age and laïko, or Greek popular music, on Plegnic Jay Glass Dubs fascinatingly evolves his sound with richer melodic and harmonic arrangements in a concerted effort to expand the nostalgic, esoteric and dance floor dimensions of his unique sound world. Plegnic is an extinct word meaning "to strike like a hammer", and offers a palpable sense of nostalgia. In this archaic context, JGD uses vintage machines and obsolete samples in conjunction with vocals from Yorgia Karydi -- former beau of his childhood neighbor, and Andreas Kassapis, one of his oldest friends, who provides the cover art -- to conjure a mutated take on classic and well-trodden styles, metaphorically and anachronistically renewing their purpose while connoting his newfound dance floor drive in the process. Recording took place at his mother's house in the Athens suburbs, with Fugazi's Steady Diet Of Nothing on repeat. It was here that he dug out an old Juno, a Yamaha RX5 drum computer, and some "crappier equipment" that provides the structural scaffold to his array of nostalgic, melancholic Laïka samples, which could be considered the diffused soul of this superb five part-crop. On the A-side he sets out to spook with the desiccated, stepper's motion of "Temple Dub" featuring heavily processed vocals by Karidi, but heady nostalgia takes over with a sublime tactility in the vaulted chorales and reverb tails of "Umbro Dub", and again in the aching sehnsucht of "Mouthless Dub", where traces of Laïka's bouzouki melodies glimmer. However, the B-side is far more upfront and up-for-it, putting weight behind the cranky skank of "Dry Dub" with its hexagonal drums and acidic bass squirm, then in the super-squashed swagger of "Fearless Dub", the near-ten-minute pinnacle of his dance floor output to date. Ultimately, Jay Glass Dubs's music is riddled with the kind of nostalgia that can make an unfamiliar piece of music feel like an intense déjà entendu, like you've heard it before in a dream or some altered state; that's a rare and precious thing. Limited to 500.

AVIADOR DRO Alas Sobre El Mundo LP
Espacial Discos present a reissue of Aviador Dro's first, self-released album, Alas Sobre El Mundo, originally released in 1982. Legendary Spanish synth-pop band Aviador Dro was formed in Madrid in the late 1970s, influenced by bands like Devo, Kraftwerk, and Cabaret Voltaire as well as by science fiction and movements like punk, futurism, anarchism, and Dada. Dressed in matching space-age uniforms, the group created a particular synth-pop sound, which they defined as "tecno-pop". Signed to the major Movieplay label, where they released a couple of 45s, in 1982 the band decide to go the DIY way and they launch their own record label, DRO which became the most important independent label in Spain during the 1980s. In 1982, Aviador Dro released their groundbreaking first album, Alas Sobre El Mundo ("Wings Over The World"), which is now widely considered as synth-pop/minimal wave classic, full of analogue synths, drum machines, and Vocoder. Alas Sobre El Mundo includes some of Aviador Dro's most famous songs like "Ondina", "Selector de Frecuencias", and "La TV es Nutritiva". AVIADOR DRO Tesis LP
Espacial Discos present a reissue of Aviador Dro's second album, Tesis, originally released in 1983. In 1983, Aviador Dro, the legendary Spanish synth-pop band, are at the height of their powers: their own DRO record label is working full time, they share management with famous Spanish new wave bands like Alaska y Los Pegamoides, Los Nikis, their songs are heavily played on the radio and they play numerous gigs all across Spain. 1983 was also when the band decide to create their most ambitious project to date: a deluxe box set, Síntesis: La Producción al Poder, which will include two LPs, a 7" and a booklet. It was as a part of that set where Tesis, which would become their second album, originally appears, along with another album, aptly titled Antítesis, showing the more experimental side of the band. A few months after the release of Síntesis: La Producción al Poder, Tesis was released separately with a slight change to the track list. This is the edition presently being reissued. Subtitled "Eight Great Stories Of Science And Future", Tesis featured "the most recommended songs for the industrial dance". This is, simply put, another minimal wave/synth-pop classic, including anthems like "Baila la guerra", "Vortex", and "Nestor el cyborg". VALLE, MARCOS Nova Bossa Nova LP
LP version. 180 gram vinyl; Includes download code. Up until Nova Bossa Nova, Marcos Valle's first release for Far Out Recordings originally released in 1997, Marcos Valle hadn't released an album for well over a decade. After 1983, he resented the way the music industry had changed with commercialization and new demands curtailing his creative freedom. This was until 1994 when Marcos met Far Out Recordings boss Joe Davis and they recorded a track for Far Out's first Friends From Rio album. This new collaborative partnership resulted in a new solo album, which commenced recording in 1996. Nova Bossa Nova brought Marcos bouncing back into the '90s, slotting nicely in place alongside the acid jazz movement as well as a voracious new demand for Brazilian music on dancefloors from London to Tokyo. It was witnessing the London club scene's growing appetite for Brazilian music, as well as a lack of new sounds coming out of Brazil at the time, that a young Joe Davis put in a proposal to record a new album with one of his musical idols. Joe wanted to facilitate an album which would combine the latest technologies and production techniques, with live to analog tape recording: a Marcos Valle album tailor-made for London's clubs. Always open to modern influences and possibilities, Marcos agreed to the project, and Joe and his production partner Roc Hunter flew to Rio in '96. The record wasn't released until '98, as the original ½ inch tapes were stolen from Far Out's London studio, meaning parts of the album had to be re-recorded. Nova Bossa Nova was unveiled at the peak of the of the Brazilian movement, the record would also prove to be something of a revolution, inspiring a new generation of artists like Bebel Gilberto, Sabrina Malheiros, Da Lata, and Bossacucanova, who continued to fuse Brazilian influences with modern electronic sounds. The album takes a panoramic view of Valle's career, which was so fundamental in defining the standard of bossa back in the sixties and continues to do so to this day. "Nova Bossa Nova", the album's title track is an update on Marcos's trademark style, developing a more modern, funkier sound. Other gems include the dancefloor ready re-work of his 1970 hit "Freio Aerodynamico", and the smooth instrumentals "Bar Ingles", a jazz fusion looper, and the sun-soaked samba "Nordeste".

TARP Part LP
"In 1975, the critic Lester Bangs was seen moaning in the pages of Creem about the anti-emotionalism of the German band, Kraftwerk, and their whole concept of the man-machine. Skip ahead 43 years. Bangs is long dead, and the man-machine is thriving. As proof of this, one need look no further than the new Tarp LP, Part. Trapped inside its insanely lovely cover art (courtesy of Greta Svalberg), one finds the two hulking man-machines (Conrad Capistran and Joshua Burkett) attempting to figure out if it's okay for robots to hug each other in public. Right in the center of the highway, even. Heard in the most boorish way, the music on Part is all the work of unemotional man-machines (to use Bangs's moldy fig of a term). 'Anybody could play this stuff,' Chuck Berry fans will pout. But that's both untrue and beside the point. I mean a goddamn giraffe can play 'Johnny B. Goode' given a 30 minute head start. Music as subtle and fully communicative as the music on Part is a heavy conceptual lift. It occurs only after a lot of thought, a massive amount of jacking around, and about a ton of boo. One needs to be a committed freak to pull off such an elegant space-hack as this. But, of course Conrad and Joshua are lifers not dilettantes. Tarp is what they do. And no one could do it better. Their previous eponymous LPs (FTR 117, FTR 323) have been dandy, but Part is a real push into new areas of the void that amplify the duo's kosmiche wing beats. You can hear little pieces of the millions of records these guys have heard poking up now and then, but the way these elements are collaged into the whole is absolutely unique, absolutely Tarp. And not the mere burps of some man-machines. Roll over Lester Bangs, and tell Chuck Berry the news." -Byron Coley, 2018. Edition of 300.

GILLIG, BRYAN Limited Grace LP
"Limited Grace is a lyrical hitchhike expedition through a psychedelic rural universe where time is nebulous and navigational tools are frowned upon. Through words, voice and sound, Gillig take us through cosmic swamps, ghostly clearings, mountain tops at night without a tent, shacks built along riverbanks but without running water, and dark desert highways soaked in silence except for the sound of a gas tank running on little more than fumes. Using the imagery of small, concrete moments, he tells us unique yet epically familiar stories without the frills of any particular plotline. While his first release, Cave Trilogy (FTR 188LP), was a 3LP set of songs recorded solo under a bridge, this is a more honed effort to take that same rawness into a studio and build on it while maintaining its authenticity. With contributions from friends like Matt Valentine, the FDOME collective, and other members of the Turners Falls music community, this effort is decidedly fruitful. Whatever qualities might have been lost while emerging from under the bridge, are replaced with musical elements that bring all subtleties to light. Well-placed backing vocals, sludgy yet swirling guitar leads and minimalist organ are the sparkplugs and pistons on Gillig's likely unregistered vehicle as he shows us all-points-off-grid. Many of these songs would not sound a bit out of place if they somehow found their way onto an Alexander "Skip" Spence album or a collection of Warren Zevon demos. At times taking the offbeat elements of Spence or Zevon a step further, at other times more straightforward, boldly reminiscent of early Dylan or Townes Van Zandt. Bryan Gillig's Limited Grace is an artisanal demonstration of song craft and sensibility that is not so much forgotten as rarely attempted, let alone successfully." --Travis Long, 2018. POPERA COSMIC Les Esclaves LP
Finders Keepers present a reissue of Popera Cosmic's Les Esclaves, originally released in 1969. For the few people lucky enough to have heard the entire album in the five decades since its release, the mythical Popera Cosmic album is now considered to be France's first dedicated psychedelic album and the shrouded blueprint for the hugely influential Gallic concept album phenomenon that followed -- including Serge Gainsbourg's Histoire De Melody Nelson (1971) and Gérard Manset's La Mort D'Orion (1970). Spearheaded by François Wertheimer (songwriter for Vangelis, Barbara, and BYG Records), composed with future Jodorowsky soundtracker and genius all-rounder, Guy Skornik, and based on an embryonic concept co-conspired by a teenage Jean-Michel Jarre, this instantly deleted 1969 recording is a true essential for any outer-national-radicalized record collection. With credentials that mark the birth of the cosmic funk (later disco) that helped shape the influential sound of France today, this LP also includes the first pressed instrumentals by members of Space Art, some of the best orchestra rock arrangements by William Sheller -- Lux Aeterna (1972), Erotissimo (1969) -- and orchestrator Paul Piot (Jean Rollin), as well as sitar psych benchmarks courtesy of uber legend Serge Franklin -- all pinned down by the rhythm section that would later be known to prog aficionados as Alice. Subtitled Les Esclaves ("The Slaves"), this street theater/rock opera (influenced by the work of Julien Beck's Living Theatre) now celebrates its 50th birthday standing firmly as a sonic tome to the birth of the no-no era (that rebuked France's yé-yé hamster wheel) leading directly to the thematic progressive network of Wakhévitch, Manset, and Magma while comprising an inter-Gallic intergalactic super group from the early annals of France's pop psych revolution. Imagine a rock opera where the cast of Mister Freedom perform Clash Of The Titans at the foot of The Holy Mountain -- then pinch yourself...

"Too $hort's legendary 1992 effort Shorty The Pimp is back in effect on vinyl thanks to the hip hop preservationist at Get On Down. Though many don't consider this to be one of Too $hort's strongest releases, the project did move well over 80,000 in its first week of release landing at Number 6 on the Billboard Top 200. Taking the title from the incredibly rare 1973 Blaxploitation film, Too $hort does what he does best on Shorty The Pimp: funk beats, boastful braggadocio, a few conscious rhymes and layers of straight up pimp talk. The lyrical content can certainly be considered comical and entertaining. Shorty The Pimp is also a stand out project for producer Ant Banks who did many of the beats for the project, his first works with Too $hort with many more to follow over the next decade. Oddly enough, one of the best comments on Shorty The Pimp comes from a random guy on the internet who commented on his experience listening to the release, 'I ran my car into a tree after listening to 'It Don't Stop' Definitely made for cars with the booming systems!'"

CHIWESHE, STELLA Kasahwa: Early Singles CD
A collection of early singles by the renowned Zimbabwean Mbira master and a true African music icon, Stella Chiweshe. The songs were mostly recorded in the 1970s, during the buildup to the Chimurenga revolution, and were only ever released in Stella's home country. Stella's album Kasahwa: Early Singles offers a fascinating introduction to the world of Mbira, with the term not only referring to the instrument, but also to a musical genre -- and on a much wider level, to an entire culture and deeply spiritual lifestyle at the core of the young Zimbabwean nation. Mbira is an ancient mystical music which has been played for over a thousand years by the Shona people. Mbira pervades all aspects of Shona culture, both sacred and secular. Its most important function is as a "telephone to the spirits of people, water, trees, stones and birds," used to contact both deceased ancestors and tribal guardians, at all-night ceremonies. Kasahwa is a collection of impossible-to-find early seven inches, eight cuts spanning the period from 1974 to 1983 and representing Mbira in its purest form. None of these songs has been released outside of Africa so far. In her humble beginnings, little pointed to the fact that young Stella at sixteen would become "The Queen of Mbira" and nothing short of a national icon. Growing up on a musical diet of white American rock n' roll and country, she initially showed little interest in local traditional music. It was not until two years later, that Mbira started to ring inside her head "loud and endlessly". This overwhelming, mystical experience turned Chiweshe into an avid student of the instrument and the philosophy connected to it. But playing Mbira music was by no means a career option for women in the British colony of Rhodesia: none of the (male) musicians were willing to teach her. And, almost worse, none of the instrument makers agreed to build an instrument for a woman. Stella ended up recording her debut single "Kasahwa" (1974) on a borrowed thumb piano. "Kasahwa" made Stella a local sensation. After the country had become independent in 1980, Chiweshe started to tour internationally, first as a featured soloist of the new National Dance Company of Zimbabwe, and later under her own name. New mastering by Nick Robbins.

He was part of bands like Fleischpost and since the mid '90s, he has been interested in different loop structures using different media (records, cassette players, mixing desks, and computers). 17 Stücke is the final part of a "trilogy" using this form of compositional technique, the first two being Whistle On Carpet and Wave Mash Target (1999) on the Tonto label. Created after a trip to Chicago in 2000/2001, these mostly mono pieces are built from a group of seven subjects that are extended to 17. APERGHIS, GEORGES Piano Music LP
Excerpt from liner notes by Keith Potter: "Georges Aperghis is probably still not much associated, by the public that internationally attends performances of his works, with music for solo piano. Music-theatre -- of an uncommonly original kind, with extended vocal techniques much to the fore -- has usually been his stamping ground. The concerns that his operas and other music-theatre compositions have embraced -- often focusing around a highly individual approach to words and to all aspects of language, developed with great musical sophistication, resulting in what one might call a kind of sound poetry -- are not among those immediately linked to the note-against-note preoccupations of which one tends to think where music for the piano is involved. This instrument's 88 keys, and the two hands of its (usually firmly seated) keyboard operative, are normally engaged to less obviously 'theatrical' ends." Personnel: Lenio Liatsou - piano, voice.

From unidentifiable rumble and grinding to brilliant instrument-snippets and comical voice fragments, Philip Jeck glues sounds together as if they were never meant to exist on their own. Whether it be Pachelbel's Canon or some mid-90s dance music that's on Philip's vinyl, but what we hear in the Vinyl Coda is his very unique musical voice -- articulated with a perfect sense for structure, suspense and sound."

RITSCH, WINFRIED Mono Metal Space LP
Winfried Ritsch on Mono Metal Space: "... a 2x1m metal plate hung on a stand or frame is stimulated by amplifier driven modified motors used as strong transducers, and sensored by pickups. The computer-controlled feedback uses digital filters and dynamics effects as signal processing to try to resonate the plates within their individual overtones. These playable feedback filters are controlled as notes by playing increasing and decreasing sounds near the composed frequencies of the notes which evokes speech and 'singing-like' musical phrases in a wide range of frequencies typical of the chosen material. As a result of this arrangement, normally barely detectable resonances are produced in the musical space and create metallic-sounding multi-tonal clusters, whereby, due to the formation of formants and noise between the shifts, fast phrases and extremely slow polyphonic chords emerge from the sound plate. What initially appears as chaotic movements can soon be experienced as structured recurring patterns..." Personnel: Winfried Ritsch - composition/concept.

VA Roots Of Salsa Volume 3: Classic Latin Tunes Become Salsa Hits LP+CD
"This is the third in our compilation series on the roots of salsa. For a general background on the ideas behind it, please refer to the notes in the first and second volumes. In a nutshell the Roots Of Salsa series is an investigation into early Cuban or Cuban-derived tunes that were either covered by salsa groups later (mid-1960s through today) or were highly influential on the development of salsa over the decades. The main criterion was to pick tracks that sounded adequate for today's DJ or collectors to play at a gig or on the radio, or were sufficiently interesting (or enough of a surprise to fans of the later version) to merit inclusion, but were not perhaps the best known or of more recent vintage." --Pablo E. ECSTATIC VISION Under The Influence CD
Ecstatic Vision introduced their brand of heavy primal psych influenced by groups like Hawkwind, Aphrodite's Child, Olatunji, Can, and early Amon Düül II in late 2013. Formed in Philadelphia to primarily "play what they wanted to hear", the band quickly rose to those in the know as a force to be reckoned with. After two releases on the legendary Relapse Records, now in 2018 the band returns with Under The Influence on the Italian label Heavy Psych Sounds. Under The Influence is Ecstatic Vision's take on some of their favorite songs by some of their biggest influences ranging from Zam rock to the kings of early psychedelia and Detroit rock. Under The Influence is a collection of six raw, fuzzy, psychedelic slabs of cosmic rock. Under The Influence sees the band covering tracks by some of their biggest influences; the primitive stoner doom sounds that came out of Zambia in the early/mid '70s that is known as Zam rock, the godfathers of space-rock Hawkwind, and the early kings of Detroit rock n' roll The MC5, all delivered with Ecstatic Vision's signature bone-crushing, blown-out in-all-the-right-ways recording style.

CRYPT TRIP Rootstock CD
Crypt Trip is a group from Texas that plays hard rock music. Originally formed in Dallas in 2013, the first incarnation of the band had a heavy psychedelic sound that was reminiscent of a dark nineteen seventies underground. It wasn't long before guitarist/singer Ryan Lee and bassist Sam Bryant relocated to Central Texas where they met drummer Cameron Martin and began to solidify their sound. Taking influence from aged rock records, jazz methodology, and their cultural roots in the cosmic American South, their music presents you with a genuinely personal experience. Take a trip with Rootstock, the new album from the Texas natives Crypt Trip. You'll find that the use of mind-altering substances is not necessary to feel the raw psychedelic power of the band's sophomore effort. With its many peaks and valleys, Rootstock will take you on a journey through musical dynamics and diverse musicianship. You will be confronted throughout with both high-energy rock and gentle moments of refined delicacy. No gimmicks. No strings attached. This is a simple and pure representation of three musicians in a collaborative effort to give you unfiltered Texas hard rock.

They're back on Heist here with three new tracks, supported by an Awanto 3 remix. "Conversation" is a beast of a track; it sits somewhere between a live African drum track, percussive techno and moody Midwest electronics while a relentless kick drum keeps the energy on a haunting level. "This Is The Place" shows a different side of house with Alma's love for dreamy deep house. Finally, "From The Heart" navigates a smart vocal loop topped with strings.

K2 The Rust 2LP
Hospital Productions presents a reissue of K2's The Rust, originally released in 1996. From its imposing cover featuring massive Japanese characters fading from red to orange to yellow in a descending gradient to the title itself, rust would not have been enough for this edifice of decay. It is the rust, the final rust, the purest rust. The presentation only reiterates that this work is process driven, that it does not stop moving, clinging, falling, eroding, and covering its subject. As moisture turns metal to dust, this is Kimihide Kusafuka's grand mastering of decay. The Rust is a four-part cut-up metal junk noise classic. Not to be confused with the typical high octane '70s psych rock-obsessed outpourings by many of Japan's more well-known noise elite, K2 has settled on a physical process of his own that gets at the inner workman surrounded by the urban accumulation of not-so-precious metals. Like the towering waterfront refinery, or the wrought iron fence outside one's door that they may pass on their way to a busy morning routine, The Rust grinds away and piles on multi-track recordings that are violent and caustic and physical yet totally arcane in their construction. How was this made? Was K2 the executor of a junkyard? Has he lived among the ruins of automobiles, or perhaps locomotives based on the sheer dynamic range and scale of the rust? But that would be too misleading as when the gates open, naked moments are heard of isolated scraping and the unmistakable clutter of metal on metal sounds, pounded by human fists. The beating of metal is coated in feedback solvents and slashed with flange by Kusafuka's self-described "Friktor" device that apparently exhumes the soul of any aluminum, steel, and cast-iron sheets. These liberated industrial 'neighbors' that we live among and construct our dwelling places with ascend to spheres and cities of their own. The rust will crush you with its weight, it will question the scale of your body, and it will cut away at your patience of watching water erode metal to dust. Recorded 1996 in Chiba, Japan for Kinky Music Institute, The Rust appears here on vinyl for the first time, faithfully remastered by Kris Lapke (Alberich). Gatefold sleeve with the original artwork; Rust-colored vinyl; Edition of 250.

BAKER, MICKEY Blam! The NYC R&B Sessions (1953-1961) LP
The contribution of Mickey Baker to 1950s music puts him next to titans like Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry. He is undoubtedly the king of '50s R&B guitar as well as an inventor of the sound called rock and roll. The difference between these two and Baker is that his career has been unfairly undervalued, if not almost unknown. And his recorded output is five times more than Chuck and Bo combined. The most in-demand studio musician/session guitarist par excellence during the golden years of the R&B laid the foundation for rock and roll. This tireless, hard-working musician spent half his life in the studio and the other half on tour and left his mark on hundreds, thousands of recordings, among which are hits from artists like Big Joe Turner, Ruth Brown, or The Coasters. His incendiary riffs and solos were always aggressive, twisted, but elegant sounding. Baker possessed creativity ahead of his time with excellent taste, and completely transformed the concept and role of the electric guitar into rock and roll forever. But don't panic. This is far from being an album for guitarists or academics. It is a selection of rare recordings that showcase him backing various singers and a few instrumentals easily moving through styles of R&B, blues, rock, gospel, and folk done for different labels between 1953 and 1961. Jerome Records are happy to present this diverse compilation with stunning sound quality and much of the material never before reissued. Enjoy the experience of discovering or remembering the immeasurable Mickey Baker, the king of and most recorded guitarist in 1950s rhythm and blues. Remastered from original 45s. Features recordings with Big John Greer And His Combo, Big Maybelle, McGhee Sextet, Marie Knight, Doc Bagby, Stick McGhee, Brother John Sellers, The Cyclones featuring Eddie Jones, Mickey And Kitty, Jesse Stone, Nappy Brown, and Mickey And Sylvia.

DAKOTA SUITE, DAG ROSENQVIST & EMANUELE ERRANTE What Matters Most CD
With What Matters Most, Chris Hooson has likely delivered the most personal and, in his own words, complicated Dakota Suite album of his career. After previous collaborations with artists such as Quentin Sirjacq and Vampillia, this ten-track LP combines the Brit's songwriting qualities with contributions by Dag Rosenqvist -- formerly known as Jasper TX and currently working with Aaron Martin under the From The Mouth Of The Sun guise -- and Elem member Emanuele Errante, with whom Hooson had released The North Green Down on Karaoke Kalk in 2011 (KK 089LP). From the first piano chords in the album's opening track "Constanta, 1992" to the last shimmering drones of "Someday This Pain Will Be Useful To You", What Matters Most follows an abstract narrative that is as autobiographical as it is universal. "The focus of this record is about being thankful for those that you love and remembering the start of what has saved you from being less than you otherwise would have been. In my case that is one person, Johanna," says Hooson in regards to his wife, whom he met at a Romanian train station 26 years ago and who is again featured on What Matters Most on clarinet. Just like Hooson's lyrics, the musical framework for What Matters Most aims for emotional complexity, exploring a broad variety of sonic palettes and drawing heavily on the dynamic interplay between the three musicians. Composed with the help of Rosenqvist and completed over the course of three years, the record sees Hooson's collaborators adding subtle textures and rich soundscapes to his unconventional, jazz-inspired songwriting approach. With its dedication to risk-taking and vulnerability, What Matters Most is not only an album about love -- but also a work of love by itself. CD version includes booklet.

FIELD, THE Infinite Moment CD
Two years on from his last outing, The Follower (KOMP 130CD/KOM 350LP, 2016), Axel Willner puts on his Field suit again to present his sixth full-length effort for Kompakt, Infinite Moment. Infinite Moment sees him striding further across the deeper, richer rims of the hue cycle. In Willner's own words, "the threshold of creating something new had to be broken", as had been done with his past albums, including his acclaimed debut From Here We Go Sublime (KOMP 057CD/KOMRSD 002LP, 2007). For Willner, "stepping outside of the studio opened up fresh perspectives on the creation of new music"; it was the opening cut, "Made Of Steel, Made Of Stone", that got him into the flux of things, "making of the rest of the album easier as I went". Substituting the up-tempo vim of his previous pieces for a sense of mind-expanding horizontality, Infinite Moment is an album filled with hope and draped in a diffuse, appeasing light, easing the pain and troubles of the human soul through a lushly forested recital of shoegazing modular, complex textural interplays and solar, atmospheric fractals. "Made Of Steel, Made Of Stone" gets the ball rolling on a thumping down-tempo note, which as Willner explains, "gives me a lot of hope". "Hope is something I've been missing in the nowadays climate and this album is a relief to me, a type of comfort, like a moment that feels good and you don't want to end." "Divide Now" is a sonic mitosis, engaging the metamorphosis to come; like a larvae pupating and reemerging weeks later from under rough bark in the form of a butterfly - fluttering breaks shed their skin to make way for a more intimate and hypnotic second chapter. "Hear Your Voice" propels the lavish, pad-upholstered glamour of its melodic lines in a bolder syncopated re-visitation of 1980s-indebted pop harmonics, while "Something Left, Something Right, Something Wrong" returns to a flaring post-euphoric daze. A more arrhythmic affair, "Who Goes There" spins out into orbit wildly, fusing acid bass moves with a haunting motorik, playing with the listener's mind intensely before the ten-minute-long epic "Infinite Moment" ushers its listener into a highly immersive final ballet of buzzing chords, trampling drums and all-consuming drones. This album is a direct soul-to-soul transmission, aiming no further than at finding the right balance between contained emotion and an expressive eloquence.

BECKERS, GUNTHER Walkman LP
Music From Memory's latest release sees the reissue of Gunther Beckers's Walkman album from 1982. A painter and musician from Aachen, Germany, Beckers created his third album Walkman to coincide with an exhibition of his latest body of artwork in 1982. Released on his very own Milky Music label with a run of just 500 copies and original pieces of artwork included with some copies, most copies of the album nonetheless remained amongst art collectors and with the painter himself. Rediscovered a few years ago through a friend of Music From Memory in the archives of a local radio station where all but one of the stations copies had been destroyed, it has been an album the label have been in love with since the first listen. Touring as a guitarist with ECM-affiliated jazz musicians such as Alex De Grassi, William Ackerman, Ralph Towner, and Larry Coryell to name but a few, Beckers also would record on a number of releases of Klaus Schulze's cult electronic music label Innovative Communication. Always exploring new ideas and the possibilities of technology within his music, Beckers would record Walkman utilizing the Kunstkopf technique of sound recording. Kunstkopf, or 'dummy head' recording is a 3-D audio recording technology that enables listeners to define each source of sound as if they were in the original recording situation itself. Using two microphones which are usually mounted in the ears of a mannequin, the technique exploits certain basic principles of human spatial hearing. Listeners to Kunstkopf recordings are in fact encouraged to listen to such recordings on headphones, as the 3-D perception is often greatly diminished on speakers. With the title Walkman, Beckers was very much hoping the album would be enjoyed on headphones, even portably through a Walkman. Minimalist variations around an acoustic guitar, guitar synth, rhythm box and with wordless female vocals, Walkman drifts in and out of moods; it is a unique and at times hauntingly beautiful album, which the Kunstkopf recording technique further adds to the album's often-otherworldly feeling.

NGOZI FAMILY Day Of Judgement LP
2018 repress. "Proto-punk and garage Zamrock: the celebrated guitarist Paul Ngozi's essential debut album. Featuring Chrissy Zebby Tembo. Guitarist/vocalist Paul Ngozi's debut album ? under the name Ngozi Family - is an important record: not just in the Zamrock genre, but in the global rock canon. Day of Judgement is an introduction to the most intense, raw and inimitable golden era Zamrock recorded, as it paved the way for a dozen Paul Ngozi and Ngozi Family releases (the most famous being drummer Chrissy Zebby Tembo's My Ancestors) that straddled the line between funk and punk, of driving hard rock and Zambian folk melodies and rhythms. Day of Judgement was released in 1976, the same year as other, now famous, Zamrock albums, from WITCH's Lazy Bones!! to Rikki Ililonga's Zambia. But it sounds like none of its counterparts. Part of that stems from its frenzied primitivism, the Ngozi Family's attempt to overcome a lack of musical acumen with sheer force of will. That will allowed Paul Ngozi to overcome a humble upbringing to become the most unlikely combination: Zamrock's most beloved star in its brief but now-well chronicled arc; the only musician to maintain his fame and recording prowess in the dark ages of the '80s; an inspiration to not only aging but young Zambians -- and now others, beyond Zambia's borders. But one cannot imagine Paul Ngozi without this album, a full-on aural assault that sounds as wild nearly forty years after its release as it must have sounded in the developing Zamrock landscape from which it emerged. We listen to this anachronistic yet prescient album now as a wholly original, completely unpredictable album in line with those from mavericks from across the world - from the Ramones to the Sex Pistols to Death. And, though it's been over two decades since Paul Ngozi's passing, his voice and vision still seem exciting, powerful, unique, unvarnished, new."

LIGHTMEN PLUS ONE, THE Fancy Pants 2CD
"Revolutionary, spiritual jazz from the unlikely city of Houston, Texas, reissued for the first time. Drummer, bandleader and activist Bubbha Thomas had toured America with R&B revues, served as a session musician for Peacock and Back Beat Records, and played straight ahead jazz with legends before the political and social upheaval of the late 1960s led him to a path first charted by Coltrane. Fancy Pants is his second LP with his Lightmen band and, like the deep-set, maverick jazz issued by the likes of Tribe and Strata East, is amongst the best of the 1970s jazz underground, a collective voice of resistance to the musical and cultural status quo." Disc one is the stereo mix and disc two is the mono mix.

LEIMER, K. Degraded Certainties CD
2016 release. "'Degraded Certainties was generated via the layering of arbitrarily ordered tone clusters and by using signal reprocessing as the principal method by which to determine the music's timbre and form. Such production details are interesting but convey little, however, of how beautiful the six soundscapes are that (K.) Leimer and company have created. In the opening "Angoisse," an occasional harp pluck appears amidst enveloping swathes of digital sound, while vaporous shimmer and hazy synth tones and phased slivers and lilting string plucks dominate elsewhere. A connection to classical minimalism emerges during "Common Nocturne" when sparse droplets of acoustic piano playing appear alongside gentle synthetic swells. Strings and electronics swim leisurely in deep electroacoustic seas, and ethereal, elegiac, tranquil, peaceful, and placid are just some of the words that might spring to mind as you listen to the recording's time-suspending settings.' --Textura K. Leimer founded Palace Of Lights in 1979. Leimer's work has also been issued by Autumn, First Terrace, Les Giants, Origin Peoples, and RVNG as well as early work included in an upcoming Cherry Red retrospective of seminal U.S. electronica and the VOD box set American Cassette Culture. Leimer has been actively producing music since the mid 1970s --his current catalog includes 18 solo albums plus collaborative albums with Savant and Marc Barreca. His work is included in the collection of The British Library."

INFERNAL COIL Within A World Forgotten CD
"With a sound not confined to any limitations, Infernal Coil's devastating sonic aura presents itself as a lethal amalgam of brutal atmospheric death metal combined with the ferocity of grindcore, all mixed amongst layers of harsh noise and dark ambience. The band's 2014 demo Burning Prayer Of Infinite Hatred gave listeners a glimpse into their fury and dissonance, as they delved through a barrage of blast beats, roaring guitars and guttural vocals. Even when their songs found their slower moments, they were defined by overwhelming intensity and agony. The band would continue developing this material for their follow-up EP Bodies Set In Ashen Death, but they also explored more complex, enchanting boundaries. This musical dichotomy speaks to the band's conceptual themes of the natural world's paradoxes, contrasting the beauty and chaos of nature, as well as humankind's seemingly inevitable self-destruction. While it never abandons its roots in horrifying intensity, Within A World Forgotten, the next step in this band's evolution, includes beautiful elements such as orchestral strings and clean vocals. Infernal Coil's overall themes reflects a strong sense of ethics based in environmentalism. The band rejects the nefarious elements in civilization severing living beings' connections to their natural state of being, blackening the air, poisoning the water and disregarding the role of non-human animals in the Earth's ecosystem. Within A World Forgotten calls on humanity to reject the state of self-imposed enslavement while acknowledging it may already be too late to repent."

JESU Ascension 2LP
"Ascension is Jesu's third studio album and was originally released on Caldo Verde Records in 2011. Now completely remixed by Justin Broadrick himself and remastered for vinyl by James Plotkin, Robotic Empire is pleased to offer this gem on vinyl for the very first time! Housed in a gatefold jacket with matte finish, printed inner sleeves that contain full album lyrics, and includes a high quality digital download card. 'Jesu is back with Ascension, Conqueror's proper sequel. It's better than anyone, let alone Broadrick, had any right to expect. At first, Ascension sounds like a muted, grayscale version of Conqueror's heavenly pressure and kaleidoscopic apocalypse. But as new elements like acoustic guitar and radically submerged vocals begin to fuse with meteoroid riffs and celestial melody, the album reveals a barren sense of triumph. 'Fools' chimes like church bells in a sunken cathedral; 'King Of Kings' concludes with a coda sculpted of clouds and drones. Only 'Broken Home' conjures Conqueror-era Jesu - the song could be a child of 'Weightless and Horizontal' and 'Brighteyes' - but even then, its lead-apron heaviness bids a suffocating yet soothing farewell to what came before. No longer struggling to wake from bad dreams, Broadrick has rubbed the sleep from his eyes, dug through the rubble, and planted Ascension on the summit of the ruins of the world.' -- Jason Heller, AV Club."

HENRIKSEN, ARVE The Height Of The Reeds CD
The Height Of The Reeds started as a commissioned work to the city of Hull, Great Britain´s cultural capital 2017. Composed by Arve Henriksen, Eivind Aarset and Jan Bang, the work celebrates the longstanding seafaring relationship between Hull and Scandinavia. It was originally the musical companion to a sound walk that took place in April, May and June 2017. Those who took part could listen to the music on headphones while crossing the Humber Bridge. Initially intended for April only, the arrangement proved so popular it ended up selling out three months. Only minor adjustments have been done to justify the transition from sound walk to album. Other than Henriksen, Aarset and Bang, the work includes important contributions from Hull sound artist Jez Riley French, providing field recordings from the bridge itself: the river below, the noise of engines, the creaking of steel wires, wheels against asphalt and the song of the reeds in the wind. Opera North´s choir and orchestra provides the necessary musical space for the soloists, and two actors and a child read from translated poems by Norwegian poet Nils Christian Moe-Repstad.

VA Running Back Mastermix Presents - Front By Klaus Stockhausen & Boris Dlugosch 2CD
Running Back presents a history revealing reissue/ compilation project centering around the legendary Front Club in Hamburg, Germany that existed from the '80s-late 90´s --- a leading club in terms of music selection, mixing technique, rave culture --- in a very important period of time. Eponymous Resident DJs Klaus Stockhausen and the later on globally known Boris Dlugosch take a close look back at that time, guiding you through the history, the early beginnings and absolute key moments on (house music) club culture. 37 (!) legendary tracks -- many of which have not been on sale forever -- that mark the masterclass sound of that Era and could be an essential start or -- end -- point to any great collection. In addition , the stunning mixing brings back the "Front" itself and must be heard by old and new fans all over. "Why a Front mix and compilation 21 years after the club closed its doors? On the one hand, because its story hasn't been told yet and it's worth telling. On the other, German clubs like Robert Johnson or Berghain -- as divergent as they are -- both resemble Front's spirit, diversity and musical open mindedness. Spread over a double-CD and two compilation LPs that are mainly chronological, Klaus Stockhausen and Boris Dlugosch picked and mixed some of the club's most cherished records and sweetest moments. This is the sound of Front." --Gerd JansonThe double mix CD is housed in a digipack with a 24-page booklet. VA Spectral 139 2x12"
For over 18 years, Spectral Sound, the dance music imprint of Ghostly International, has thrived at the forefront of techno and house. It has been a source of support for numerous DJs and producers during that time, from Matthew Dear and Benoit & Sergio to Avalon Emerson and Hieroglyphic Being. Now, Spectral brings the past alongside the present with its latest release, a compilation that offers a vibrant cross-section of the current moment in underground dance music. Despite the wide-ranging selections on Spectral 139, a through line of classic style and infectious energy emerges from the up-and-coming and established artists alike. Rising talents such as Minimal Violence, Russell E.L. Butler, and Earth Trax x Newborn Jr. bring unique perspectives to their hardware-centric productions. Veteran producers bring their own edge as well: D'Marc Cantu blows the roof off with the outsized funk of "Regularly People", and Nigil Caenaan's "January's End," a low-key Detroit classic from the late '90s, closes Spectral 139 with a whirlwind of manic rhythms and sedate synths. Gunnar Haslam opens the track list with his acidic mindbender, "Versione Antica". And Ghostly regulars like Tadd Mullinix, who drops a lush JTC remix of his new X-Altera alias, and Matrixxman, who collaborates with Riccardo Limiti on the cavernous "Inferno", tie everything back to the label's roots. The double-12" compilation, as well as each individual single, features original work by Los Angeles-based artist Nina Hartmann. Her designs have appeared on releases from labels such as Ascetic House and Big Love, and the pieces for Spectral 139 continue to develop her cryptic aesthetic. The marriage of Hartmann's striking, high-contrast symbols with such bold dance music speaks to a collection that aims to stand out.

Go-Go girls in leopard-print bikinis undulate to the wail of a sax. A sultry showgirl appears like a mirage and peels off a crystal-crusted glove to whistles and whoops. It's a juke joint, a barrel house, an alternate time and dimension, with the whole room flailing in giddy unison, spirited into that raw, earthy, elemental rhythm. That is the Hoochie Koo. UNHAPPYBIRTHDAY Schaum CD
Unhappybirthday, continue their cycle of a new album every three years here with Schaum. It's an unusually prolific rate of output for a band as young as Unhappybirthday, yet wholly in keeping with their anachronistic nature. In contrast to most of their contemporaries in the class of 2010 who took to the stage, the next generation inspired by Beggar's Banquet, Factory, and ZickZack, the synthesizers and drum machine they borrowed were not tools of sheer irony or approximations of raging rebellion. The last Unhappybirthday album, Schauer, was released in 2015, influenced by Georges Perec's novel Un Homme Qui Dort (1967), a young man's meditation on melancholy, indifference, inertia. Here, they took the jangly pop of carefree youth and bestowed upon it a degree of earnestness and sincerity; traditional values perhaps, seen through the prism of today. Schaum is the trio's first album to have been created without the aid of a tape recorder. Working closely with Berlin producer Jonas Meyer, their sound has matured, shattering the raw lo-fi veneer of the past to explore complex spaces with unimagined agility and clarity. The dry baritone of Daniel Jahn conjures up images of hazy summer evenings and gossamer rain, evaporating before it touches the hot asphalt surface. Tobias Rutkowski's guitar is a conduit for deep-rooted desire, the likes of which has not surfaced since the Cocteau Twins. Diana Kim, who joined on bass in 2017, adds her own kinesthetic counterpoint to spherical keyboard motifs. If Schaum were a person you had met, you would be enraptured and helpless in equal measure, unable to find words for such magic. If the eight new tracks can be attributed to a particular genre, shoegaze comes closest, albeit with a sense of form skillfully distilled from the 1980s; a diaphanous essence found less in concrete, constituent parts and more in the work as a whole. There is a shimmer of the vitreous elegance once epitomized by David Sylvian, without actually sounding like Japan; an echo of Sade's silky stylishness without for a moment implying that this should be added to a cocktail party playlist. Instead, like the finest traces of perfume, a note here and there sparks recollections, hinting at the playful experimentation of Les Disques Du Crépuscule releases. The result is sophisticated pop, overcast with dreams, music falling like light on mother of pearl, a transient memory of moist, warm skin.

DOWNPILOT This Is The Sound CD
This Is The Sound starts with no fuss, frills, or preamble. The first line of the opening track, "Your Supply", drops in right in on the first downbeat and ends with a sentiment about as resigned and unapologetic as can be: "This is the sound of everywhere." It dissolves on a wave of swirling feedback and gorgeous kerrangs, and what comes into focus is a kind of manifesto against the smugness that has led to our current state of affairs. This sets the tone for a bold piece of work by a seasoned and accomplished artist. While Paul Hiraga's latest (and sixth) Downpilot album at times may nod to the understated psychedelia of 2015's Radio Ghost (TR 319CD/LP) or the intimate melancholia of 2011's New Great Lakes (TR 221CD/LP), this latest collection is edgier and much more immediate. The second track slams straight into "Historian", a wry commentary on western civilization that harks back to the 19th century through a '70s rocker lens. Probably Downpilot's most varied collection of songs to date, this album reaches one of its peaks with "High And Guided", an unequivocal kiss-off diatribe with forlorn, spaghetti western guitar motifs, restrained vocal wails, and aggravated violin textures, hinting at a barely (but beautifully) concealed rage. There's a lot of raw emotion on this record, but it's presented with such craft and expertise that the effect is quietly transcendent. The intimacy of "Thievers" is signature Downpilot, with understated keyboard lines and eloquent evocations of nature, but it's only on closer inspection that the song reveals itself as a ghostly prayer to Hiraga's mother. Where the album starts on a strident note, it ends on a philosophical one with "Finistère", providing the hope of redemption by leaving everything behind in search of a greater meaning. Over the years, Hiraga has become a highly skilled engineer and has recorded and mixed this album single-handedly, with early support from long time collaborators Terry de Castro (Wedding Present), Mike Musburger (Posies), and original member Jeff Brown. There's just so much to listen to on this record, and whether it's the expertly-woven and unconventional violin contributions of Melinda Rice or Anne Marie Ruljancich's (Walkabouts) duet-style vocals on "At The Window" and "St. Clair", everything has its own, exquisite place.

The concept behind Dreamtime has secured the album as one of the pivotal works in ambient music today. The tales told over two LPs touch on the earth's origins, and the role humans have to play in it. Inspired by the stories of Australia's first people, Steve Roach used a combination of synthesizers and ancient Aboriginal instruments to create the album's signature sound, most notably the dumbek & the didgeridoo. After Young Marble Giants's breakup, singer Alison Statton started Weekend with Spike and Simon Booth, a project which saw chart success and the birth of a nouveau-retro style as individualistic as YMG's, one later co-opted by lesser acts. Weekend, too, split after their debut album. Despite Weekend having become Alison's second big act, Rough Trade passed on her next project with Spike. Vinyl Japan stepped in to release the duo's debut, Tidal Blues and other releases followed, but as real life, jobs, and children beckoned, both Alison and Spike stepped away from music for more than twenty years. Their return is unexpected. Bimini Twist is the work of the two alone. Apart from some vocal tracking in a local studio to best capture Alison's still wondrous voice -- everything was recorded in their homes, much of it "live," and these new songs show the duo's charm and diversity, featuring Alison's most personal lyrics and Spike's peculiar musical genius.

Dreamlands was followed by Distractions (UTR 071CD/LP, 2014) and consequently the songs that comprise Deaths are collectively about the act of finishing, an ode to "the ending". Creating this album was a working research project embodying what is sometimes the hardest part of musical endeavor: completing a record. Making a new album is always daunting, but when all band members also have full-time jobs and other commitments it can also seem logistically impossible. Then there is the nagging, unattainable perfectionism that can draw out a record for months or even years. The twelve tracks on Deaths touch on political rhetoric, artistic legacy, action and passivity, work and leisure, and, of course, distraction, referencing many musical genres in the process while never leaving punk's orbit. The album was recorded by John Hannon of No Recording Studios in June 2017 over three days, mixed by Jonah Falco and mastered by Kris Lapke. The cover was shot in a garden in Brixton by Owen Richards, who also photographed the covers for the previous albums. Additional artwork was provided by R.M. Phoenix. Sauna Youth is Boon, Mince, Ecke, and Pines. They played together in the band Monotony, and between them have played or do play in other bands and music projects including Primitive Parts, Feature, Child's Pose, Lilac, Cold Pumas, Oblate, Teufelskreis, Mind Jail, Gold Foil, and Tense Men as well as being involved with the organizations Good Night Out, The Positive Press, Constant Flux, and Heart n Soul.

MASONNA Exploring Self-Corrosive Noise With Coquette 4CD BOX
Along with Merzbow and Hijokaidan, Masonna is one of the best (known) Japanese noise projects. A psychedelic touch, cascades of electronic noise, and vocal belching mixed together constitute the ingredients of Mademoiselle Anne Sanglante Ou Notre Nymphomanie Auréolé (1993), the double-barreled named for Masonna. Yamazaki "Maso" Takushi created Masonna in 1987 and he started recording for his own legendary label Coquette. His plentiful productions were presented in an ultra-limited edition, sometime totally confidential (one sole copy), on cassette, 7" acetate disc produced by a portable cutting machine, and Minidisc. They contributed to create a mythology based above all on the astonishing intensity with which "Maso" devastates and reprocesses the vocal cords, in a true "total electronic song". In his impressive live performances, he created and electrically overcharged universe, punctuating the electric and vocal sonorous power with some quite moments and brief interruptions, conferring a very particular dynamic to his pieces. Studio recordings are making full use skillfully editing how to edit cut-up, in which elaborate lump-sum making has been performed, the psychedelic taste for each track of time is taken into consideration, Yamazaki extends musical width. Masonna is an emblematic figure of Japanoise, who shines by a personal approach and an immediately recognizable style. A zenith in the noisy Japanese landscape. Urashima present seven amazing Coquette tapes for the first time remastered digitally on four CD in an exclusive black wooden box with laser-engraving: Like A Vagina (1988), All Live Recording At My Room (1989), Mad Onna (1989), Maso + Onna = Masonna (1989), Hate (1995), Freak (1995), and Filled With Unquestionable Feelings (1995). Each single CD comes in a cardboard wallet with credits and new artwork; individually-numbered certificate in 199 copies. Inside the chaos: the God of noise!

SARMIENTO Y SU COMBO BRAVO, MICHI Salsa Con Monte LP
"Vampisoul present the latest volume in their Discos Fuentes reissue series, Salsa Con Monte, an instant tropical Latin dance party from Blas 'Michi' Sarmiento. Honestly, all Michi Y Sus Bravos albums are all so good. However, a poll with fans and DJs, selected his sixth album Salsa Con Monte, from 1973, issued here for the first time. 'El Michi', as his grandmother nicknamed him, is the son of the famous reedman Clímaco Sarmiento, a bandleader who recorded with Fuentes for decades. Proficient in percussion and singing from an early age, Michi is most known for following in his father's footsteps with clarinet, saxophone, composition and musical arranging as his signature skills. By 17 Michi had his own band and by 1967 his Bravos were competing with local sound systems and radio stations that were playing salsa, descarga, charanga, and boogaloo. While Sarmiento has consistently maintained his love of traditional Afro-Colombian-rooted 'música costeña' to this day (porro, cumbia, cumbelé, gaita, paseo and merecumbé), Los Bravos always played it hard, loose and fast, because they had to compete with the DJs. Michi preferred recording "live" in the studio with the result being an accurate document of what a powerful outfit they must have been to experience in person. This album contains a number of excellent cover tunes, including the rather surprising choice of Gilberto Gil's "Viramundo". This opening cut is followed in quick succession by a dizzyingly diverse gaggle of genres, namely cumbelé, calypso, pasebol, cumbión and rumba. One could truly say Michi and his band of 'braves' bring us quite a heavy load of salsa 'mounted' on this record (Salsa Con Monte, referring to Michi's motorbike 'mount' on the cover), which is exactly what's happening by the look of the front and back jackets of this classic Discos Fuentes LP." --Pablo Yglesias, aka DJ Bongohead Issued with facsimile artwork and pressed on 180 gram vinyl.

VAINICA DOBLE Vainica Doble LP
Vinilisssimo present a reissue of Vainica Doble's self-titled debut album, originally released in 1971. It can be argued that Serge Gainsbourg was a typically French artist, although his music was so personal that it would be difficult to find another similar artist in France at the time. The same could be said about Vainica Doble. They were a duo with a distinctly Spanish edge, although it is almost impossible to establish parallels between them and any other Spanish music released during the years they were active. Gloria Van Aerssen and Carmen Santonja were truly unique and their mix of folk, traditional genres and psych rock is a landmark in Spanish pop. This self-titled LP is their impossible-to-find first album, which despite extremely low sales -- it is said that the majority of the copies were destroyed by one of the investors in the Ópalo label after shipping them to Argentina -- has been highly influential for generations of pop musicians in Spain and a holy grail item for many music fans. There are plenty of reasons for this. The opening track, "Caramelo De Limón", already shows how effective their personal musical recipe can be. Fantastic vocal harmonies, unexpected arrangements, original elements brought into the song and even fierce guitars where needed (their backing band, Los Tickets, would later become Asfalto, one of the biggest hard rock bands in Spain). As the album progresses, every track is a wonderfully idiosyncratic marvel: "Dime Félix", "Roberto Querido", "Fulgencio Pimentel"... You will even find drum breaks on "Quién Le Pone El Cascabel Al Gato"! The package is completed with the amazing psychedelic artwork designed by Ivan Zulueta, a cult Spanish artist whose work spanned different fields and some will remember for his film posters for Pedro Almodóvar. Includes booklet with notes by Vicente Fabuel. Presented in facsimile artwork and pressed on 180 gram vinyl.

BONESCHI, GIAMPIERO Cybernetic Circus LP
Vinilisssimo present a reissue of Giampiero Boneschi's Cybernetic Circus, originally released in 1973. Giampiero Boneschi is a complete musician: he composes, arranges, directs, acts as a producer, and also plays the piano. But he is also an adventurous artist who has managed to combine his work with vocalists, jazz or even easy listening music with other highly experimental projects. His name is familiar to library music fans, and his recordings for Music Scene, CAM, or Fonit are some of the most desired pieces among collectors of pioneering electronics. In fact, Boneschi was one of the first Italian artists to use synthesizers in the early '70s. This fabulous Cybernetic Circus LP was released in 1973 on the unconventional British label Chapter 1, founded by the composer Les Reed. The album retains part of its original easy listening aspiration but fortunately it also serves to show the sound experiments of master Boneschi. This is an album for lovers of the avant-garde that will also fascinate followers of bands such as Stereolab or Broadcast, who undoubtedly fed on the work of innovators such as Boneschi. "Flea's Dance" is a dynamic song of childish vibes but simultaneously plays about with the frequencies extracted from the synthesizer, achieving surprising results. "Modulation On Theme" and "Psyco-Analysis Lesson" contain aquatic echoes generated with the Moog and filtered voices that become mere noises at the service of the composer. But Boneschi does not always take his recordings to the sonic extreme, so you also find glimpses in which his experiments coexist with friendly melodies, perfect soundtracks for a sequence of a film set on the French Riviera, "Moderato Cantabile", or even approaches to classical music, as in "Synthesizer In A Classic Quartet". Lovers of library music will find in Cybernetic Circus one of the best and most enjoyable examples of early electronic music. Presented in facsimile artwork; 180 gram vinyl.

OS MUTANTES Tudo Foi Feito Pelo Sol LP
Vinilisssimo present a reissue of Os Mutantes' Tudo Foi Feito Pelo Sol, originally released in 1974. Os Mutantes showed an interest in following international music trends from the very beginning of their career, when they moved away from the traditional sounds of their native Brazil in favor of psychedelia. Even its own name gives us some clues about the ever-transforming will of the band. The continuous changes characterized the group's history until its dissolution in 1978 and, as part of that evolution, they embraced progressive rock in their final albums. Tudo Foi Feito Pelo Sol was released in 1974, when Rita Lee was already focused on her solo career and Arnaldo Baptista had also left the group due to internal and personal problems. The only original member remaining, Sérgio Dias, along with bassist Liminha, who had joined the band a few years earlier but left before recording this album, were responsible for composing most of these songs. Despite the obvious differences from the original sound of Os Mutantes, this record will not disappoint the fans of the band. "Deixe Entrar Um Pouco D'água No Quintal", "Cidadão Da Terra", or "Tudo Foi Feito Pelo Sol" clearly leave aside any reference to Tropicalismo to embrace instead the hardest sounds and progressive style of groups like Deep Purple or even Iron Butterfly. The keyboardist Túlio Mourão stars in some of the most intense moments of the album, along with the energetic and fierce guitar of Sérgio Dias, who was the band's leader at the time. An example of their virtuosity is "Pitágoras", written by Mourão, where piano and guitar take you into a progressive and almost psychedelic journey with music references as diverse as jazz and flamenco. Without any doubt, this is one of the strongest songs of the entire LP. Presented in facsimile gatefold sleeve; 180 gram vinyl.

CHERRY, DON Home Boy, Sister Out 2LP
Repressed; Double LP version. Gatefold sleeve; Features a new essay by French journalist Jacques Denis (Liberation). Don Cherry's downtown Paris funk masterwork Home Boy, Sister Out, produced in 1985 by Ramuntcho Matta and originally released by Barclay in France only, finally gets a worldwide release on Wewantsounds. Featuring French post-punk muse Elli Medeiros, avant-garde poet Brion Gysin, and cult Senegalese drummer Abdoulaye Prosper Niang (Xalam), this is a unique soundbite of Paris in the early '80s at its coolest when funk, jazz, and new wave were mingling with sounds from Africa, Jamaica, and Latin America. Recorded at the legendary Studio Caroline in Paris, a hotbed for the African diaspora in Paris the '80s, and produced by cult French-Chilean musician and producer Ramuntcho Matta (his father is painter Roberto Matta and half-brother is cult New York artist Gordon Matta-Clark), Home Boy, Sister Out is one of Don Cherry's funkiest albums. Coming back from New York where Matta had immersed himself in the downtown scene working with the likes of Peter Gordon, Arto Lindsay, The Talking Heads, Meredith Monk, and Laurie Anderson, he crossed path with the American trumpet player in Paris by chance. It was love at first sight and together they had the idea of an album where Cherry would not only play but also sing. Accompanied by a first class cast of musicians from the Paris scene, they recorded Home Boy, Sister Out in Spring 1985. Very little known outside of France, where it has achieved cult status in some circles, the album embodies the spirit of the "Sono Mondiale", the multi-ethnic sound of '80s Paris, pioneered by Radio Nova and Celluloid Records. Featuring legendary Senegalese drummer, Abdoulaye Prosper Niang (Xalam), Negrito Trasante, Elli Medeiros, Jannick Top, and Don Cherry on various instruments plus vocals, the album is a fascinating mix of Downtown New York funk, jazz, new wave, reggae, and African music. The release also includes a handful of bonus tracks taken from Ramuntcho Matta's vaults including the cult 1983 single "Kick" featuring legendary multi-artist Brion Gysin who's influenced such artists as David Bowie, Keith Haring, John Zorn, Brian Jones, Genesis P-Orridge, among others. A fascinating album. Newly remastered. Includes five bonus tracks.

COLORED MUSIC Colored Music CD
WRWTFWW Records announce the reissue of the 1981 self-titled album from cult Japanese duo Colored Music. Includes liner notes in English and Japanese by digger, curator, connoisseur, writer, and legend Chee Shimizu. An incredible mix of cosmic new wave, unconventional disco, avant-garde synth pop, and hybrid electronic funk, Colored Music is enchantingly unique, a sort of experimental and magnetizing take on David Bowie's Berlin Trilogy with a psychedelic Haruomi Hosono touch. From the groovy post-punk glam title track to the proto-house dance floor killer "Heartbeat", Ichiko Hashimoto and Atsuo Fujimoto hit all the right (and sometimes not-exactly-right-but-truly-genius) notes to create the odd and beautiful, an unparalleled audio escape to the best elsewhere you can think of. Also playing on the album are celebrated musicians Mansaku Kimura, Shuichi "Ponta" Murakami -- 1978's Pacific (V 25AH426), 1981's KI-Motion by MKWAJU ensemble (WRWTFWW 026CD/LP), collaborations with Jun Fukamachi, Yasuaki Shimizu, Haruomi Hosono... -- Kiyohiko Semba, Tamio "Doyo" Kawabata, and Tatsuhiko Hizawa.
