AMBARCHI, KONRAD SPRENGER, PHILLIP SOLLMANN, OREN Panama/Suez 12"
A-TON is proud to announce Panama/Suez, the first EP by trio Oren Ambarchi, Konrad Sprenger, and Phillip Sollmann (aka Efdemin). The three multi-instrumentalists collaborated with the goal of creating subtly shifting musical passageways: sonic routes that run between continents of musical category. The results are two variations of kraut-y, groove-based post-techno that unfurl through mutating polyrhythms and chiming, ethereal guitar play; a rare moment of guitar and techno in deep embrace.

INLAND & JULIAN CHARRIERE An Invitation To Disappear 2LP
Double LP version. An Invitation To Disappear is the debut LP by British electronic musician Inland, aka Ed Davenport, and his first release for A-TON. Based on his soundtrack for a video installation by conceptual artist Julian Charrière, Davenport has recast the material and field recordings into eight tracks of rhythmically intricate electronics and spectral, ambient techno, inspired by Charrière's visually striking, 76-minute tracking shot through a palm plantation toward a totemic sound system on full blast. Both the album and original soundtrack were created in response to the 200th anniversary of the eruption of Indonesia's Tambora volcano in 1815, which plunged the world into darkness and caused a series of extreme weather conditions. At the time, the natural climate change crisis resulted in numerous global famines and became known throughout the northern hemisphere as "The Year Without Summer", with global communities forced to adapt to sudden radical changes in temperature and weather. An Invitation To Disappear offers a contemporary parallel, leading viewers and listeners down a seemingly endless direct path of gridded palms from dawn to dusk; a bio-commercial monoculture where ancient jungle once flourished. Light flickers between rows of fruit-laden trees and a distant fire burns in the undergrowth where the border between natural image and computer simulation breaks down. At the same time, formerly incoherent rumblings of sub-frequencies begin to transform into the contours of rhythm. This is reflected sonically in eight perspectives on the lush, synthetic jungle, made of myriad buzzing fauna, morphing melody and colossal bass-weight. All paths lead toward an apocalyptic dance floor, though speeds vary widely. Rhythms dissolve from straight to broken, and synth tempos operate by their own internal clocks (and logic). Juxtaposing industrial agriculture with rave culture, the album explores the industrialization and refinement of nature, and the new strange forms emerging from the synthetic grids of both. As Inland, Davenport has previously contributed soundtracks to other installations by the Swiss-born Charrière, whose artistic practice focuses on bridging environmental science and cultural history, often taking place in remote geophysical locations, including ice fields, volcanoes, and radioactive sites.

JEANNEAU, LAURENT Music of Southern and Northern Laos CD
Akuphone presents a collection of recordings of various musical practices from the Laotian provinces of Champasak, Attapeu, Sekong, Saravan, Luang Namtha and Phongsaly. These documents are a perfect introduction to the traditional music of South Laos minority groups. Popular modern music is widely spread but visitors are barely ever exposed to ancient acoustic practices from villages. As a matter of fact, mouth organs of various sizes exist among the Hmong and Bit as well as amazing vocal techniques among the Lantene, Ahka, or Khmu who combine simultaneous singing and flute notes. This collection also compels one to discover the Brao gongs, the Triang bamboo flutes, the Lao, Ta Oy, Alak, OI, Pacoh, or Nyaheun mouth organs as well as the powerful singing accompanying these instruments. Caught on the spot, these outstanding testimonies were collected between 2006 and 2013 by Laurent Jeanneau, aka Kink Gong. Through his researches, this self-taught ethnologist has gradually become one of the specialists of the field, building up a collection of complete and fascinating sound archives which contribute documenting parts of this immaterial heritage. Music of Southern and Northern Laos brings some light on a region of South East Asia still largely unknown from the general audience as well as the recently reborn ethnographic musical industry. This compilation will delight both molam/khene lovers and beginners unused to South East Asian sounds. The CD version gathers both Music of Southern Laos and Music of Northern Laos over a single disc. Includes liner notes in English, French, and Japanese and a download code.

"005A1" with its funk attitude, powerful chords, and stunning vocals creates a proper banger. "005A2" is such a perfect blend of different feelings: are the strings a bit '80s... Is it just a new version of that kind of disco music? Instead it's just a mixture of sensations perfectly coexisting. "005B1" features a piano loop that is a great tribute to classic house music and keeps on dialoguing with catchy vocals. "005B2", with its saxophone and synthesizers is a percussive, atmospheric, and fulfilling way to end the record's narrative in perfect fashion.

DAVIS, MILES Live At Teatro Tenda Pianeta, Rome, Italy, 1982 (1st Set) LP
Warehouse find, last copies. "After six years spent away from the public eye (1975-1981) due to a long period of illness and addiction, Miles Davis finally returned to music with 1981's The Man With the Horn. And just to prove that he was fully out of retirement, Davis embarked on a tour of Europe in the spring of 1982. It was his first European tour since 1971 and fans came out in droves to see the Prince Of Darkness. By April 26 April 1982 Davis and an all-star band (featuring Bill Evans on sax, Marcus Miller on bass, Mike Stern on guitar, Al Foster on drums and French musician Minu Cinelu on percussions) had made their way down to Rome where they played two sold out sets. The first set, was a forty-six minute medley featuring Davis' own 'Back Seat Betty', Gershwin's 'My Man's Gone Now' from Porgy & Bess, and in a nod to his Italian fans, Giuseppe Verdi's 'Aida.'" OSHEYACK Sadomodernism LP
"At the crux of American-born, Shanghai-based producer Eli Osheyack's debut album, Sadomodernism, is a question of agency. Borrowed from film theory, the album title was originally coined by writer Moira Weigel to describe a waning European art house tradition that vehemently rejects 'naïve pleasure' - the tranquilizing comfort of conventional cinematic narrative, like mainstream Hollywood - and opts for violence and pain, with the aim of shaking audiences out of cinematic manipulation and into their own position vis-à-vis the malaise of contemporary life. Echoing the work of sadomodernist auteurs, Osheyacks's Sadomodernism is a deeply political project with critical ambitions. The smashing and blending of genres, from techno, industrial, noise and gabber to ballroom and metal, even opera, and spontaneous percussion arrangements, sometimes mixed with distorted spoken word, do not mean to please, but provoke through disorder and chaos. Laden with Brechtian alienation affects, Sadomodernism interrogates the notion of autonomy in contemporary music, club culture, and social-political life."

FUTURO ANTICO Dai Primitivi All' Elettronica LP
2018 repress. An outstanding raga-like drone LP with a distinctive cosmic vibe, Futuro Antico was a short-lived collaboration between the two Italians Walter Maioli (Aktuala), Riccardo Sinigaglia and Gabin Dabiré (from Burkina Faso). The synthesis between ancient, ethnic and analog electronic music is just perfect, the minimalist repetition with slight changes lends associations to slow growth; cyclic repetition gives the listener an opportunity to discover the sounds, to meditate, to go into the music, join the same journey through ancient, primitive cultures and modern electronic soundscapes. Originally released in 1980, the sound is completely analog and warm. This limited reissue maintains the original tape artwork, with info and photos.

TONIUTTI, MASSIMO Il Museo Selvatico 2LP
Black Truffle present the first reissue of a true underground masterpiece, Massimo Toniutti's Il Museo Selvatico ("The Wild Museum"), originally self-released on LP in 1991. Like his better-known brother Giancarlo -- whose classic 1985 Broken Flag LP La Mutazione was reissued by Black Truffle in 2015 (BT 014LP) -- Massimo Toniutti was active in the vibrant underground industrial/noise scene of the 1980s, contributing to releases on legendary labels such as Broken Flag and RRR and self-releasing a series of cassettes between 1984 and 1988. Existing in a private world apart from the noise and dark industrial tropes of many of his contemporaries, Toniutti's Il Museo Selvatico is an entirely singular work of domestic electro-acoustic exploration. Made up primarily of what Toniutti calls "small and rare noises" or sonic "knick-knacks" recorded between 1987 and 1990, the five pieces that make up the original LP usher us into a crepuscular space populated by mysterious traces of everyday life. Toniutti weaves a loose net of distant clanks, dull thuds, metallic resonance, and skittering percussive sounds, allowing the sounds to breathe against a backdrop of near-silent atmosphere. Although the haunted ambience recalls the work of contemporaries like Organum, Toniutti generally steers clear of long tones and drones, preferring to arrange brief, sometimes staccato sonic objects into patters of repeating figures and isolated events whose overall compositional shape remains somehow ungraspable. Although glimpses of recognizable location recordings and instrumental sounds can occasionally be made out, for most of the record the sources of the sounds you hear remain teasingly mysterious, an abstracted memory of everyday actions and atmospheres. I Museo Selvatico is accompanied here by an additional LP of material recorded at the same time, composed especially for this reissue into two side-long suites that inhabit the same haunted space as the original LP while occasionally making use of more maximal compositional strategies. Essential listening for fans of Organum, Nurse With Wound, Christoph Heemann, and the tradition of outsider musique concrete. Comes as a double-LP in a lavish gatefold with printed inner sleeves featuring archival images and notes. Remastered and cut at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin.

CONNORS, LOREN Unaccompanied Acoustic Guitar Improvisations Vol. 10 LP
Before the spectral, romantic electric guitar miniatures for which he is celebrated today, Loren Connors recorded a string of nine solo acoustic guitar improvisations under the name of Loren Mazzacane between 1979 and 1980. The records feature Loren's contorted impressions of Delta and country blues, persistently kneaded into sidelong guitar excursions entangled with wordless, mournful vocal utterances, hummed and moaned in imitation of the dogs that often howled outside his window. Originally released on Loren's own Daggett Records (named after the street he lived on in New Haven), these LPs slipped into obscurity after Daggett's distributor went bankrupt, forcing the guitarist, who didn't have a car, to dispose of their unsold stock rather than drag the records home without transportation. Now, thanks to a recording found by Unseen Worlds's Tommy McCutchon in the archives of Columbia University, Blank Forms presents the tenth volume of the series. Recorded in Woodstock, in front of a live audience at the Creative Music Studio (the improvised music nonprofit founded by Karl Berger, Ornette Coleman, and Ingrid Sertso), Unaccompanied Acoustic Guitar Improvisations Vol. 10 provides a welcome addition to the canon of Loren's early solo releases and is the first contemporary vinyl publication of material from his Daggett Street period. As with the original Daggett records, the LP is issued in handmade covers with paste-on art featuring a replica of a recent drawing included in Loren's October 2018 art exhibition Wild Weeds, presented by Blank Forms. One of the world's most singular guitarists, Connors is among few living musicians whose prolific body of work can be said to be wholly justified in its plenitude. On more than 100 records across almost four decades on labels like Table of the Elements, Drag City, Ecstatic Yod, and his own Daggett Records, Connors has wrung distinctive shades of ephemeral blues from his guitar, its sound ever-shifting while remaining unmistakably his own. From his early, splintered take on the Delta bottleneck style through his song-based albums with Suzanne Langille and on to the painterly abstraction that defines his current work, Connors has earned the admiration of many, leading to collaborations with the likes of John Fahey, Jim O'Rourke, Keiji Haino, Kim Gordon, Thurston Moore, Alan Licht, and Jandek. Creative Music Studio is an ongoing organization that engages musicians and listeners from all backgrounds to deepen and broaden their musical sensitivity, expression, and understanding through workshops, recordings, and concerts worldwide.

EXTRAWELT Unknown 3LP
Triple LP version. Extrawelt are Arne Schaffhausen and Wayan Raabe. Both have been around for about 40 years, and making music together for half that time. They enjoy normal things and are ashamed of their carbon footprints due to the large number of flights they take to bring them to their gigs. Unknown is the tenth studio album from the producer team, and the fourth under the name Extrawelt; it's largely devoted to another side of their creations. Extrawelt releases always have been somehow different yet, despite becoming instantly absorbed into the familiar Extrawelt atmosphere when listening, one can't help but notice something's very different. Feet are bouncing, the mind is traveling; one imagines what it would be like to listen to Unknown with closed eyes in the midst of a throbbing concert instead of through laptop speakers. Listening to Extrawelt on crappy speakers is anyway never a good idea; leave the confines of a lo-fi laptop world and get in the car. Crank up the stereo, and cruise around aimlessly, lost in an appreciation of the music. One has the urge to speed up, even if one is usually a very sensible driver, the bass and beats blowing up in one's face. This is something undeniably Extrawelt, yet inherently different to what we've come to expect from the Hamburg pair. Something about this twelve-track journey fits together so superbly it's hard not to be overcome with at least a few shivers up the spine. With profound bass lines and cutting drums, one keeps coming back to these sounds, again and again. Whether this is exotic or native doesn't matter; all that matters is it's great, and it isn't techno! Somehow, Extrawelt have accomplished staying true to themselves despite deploying not even one four-to-the floor-bass drum. Admittedly, one can find a couple of similar tracks on a few of their previous releases, but here is got a whole album full of it. What genre of music is this actually? Neo-Electro? Alternative Electronica? Emo-EDM?? These guys don't like to be put into boxes; it's simply Extrawelt. The tracks on Unknown began simmering more than ten years ago without any goal or idea regarding if they'd end up releasing them. This explains how Unknown appeared so quickly after their most recent album, Fear Of An Extra Planet (COR 041 CD/LP, 2017).

"**Finally Out Of Moth Balls!** **Reissue Of Thee Headcoats' 1996 Classic Lp Featuring Some Of Their Finest Cuts!** Thee Headcoats were mainly Billy Childish (Git/Vox) Bruce Brand (Drums) and Johnny Johnson (bass), they formed in 1989 after Billy's previous band Thee Mighty Caesers gave up the ghost. By 1992 they had already released something like 6 albums and 15 singles. Lots more releases followed including this great LP In Tweed We Trust, originally released in 1996, the follow up to the equally great Conundrum. Thee Headcoats carried on touring and releasing records in every corner of the world until mid-2000 when they called it a day. We did the 'We hate The Fuckin' NME' single after NME journo Johnny Cigarettes walked out of their gig in Archway after insisting that he should get in for free as he was from the NME and then reviewing Thee Headcoatees by saying there were no girls in the band (he left before they came onstage!!)."

SHADRACKS, THE The Shadracks LP
"Medway garage upstarts! Debut LP! The Shadracks are a three-piece rock n' roll group hailing from Medway, Kent, with Babylonian overtones. Drawing lyrics from the forgetfulness and lost hope the group aims to play 40 years in the past, but with modern precision. The origins of the group date back over 6 months when Huddie Shadrack and Ellisa Abednego had a brief encounter in deserted park land. With a sheared an interest in incompetent punk and beat music it became paramount that they form a group, and quickly. At that very moment they heard the dulcet twang of old onion strings being plucked in the near versinity. Scouring the herbaceous borders the two friends happened upon Elle Meshack, harp in hand. Could she fix them into shape? The answer was 'yes!' So via a frosty garage in upper Strood The Shadracks' sound came into being. After just two rehearsals the cocky kids decided it was high time they recorded a debut LP. And so it came to pass."

LAWRENCE Illusion 2LP
Double LP version. John Thorp on Lawrence's Illusion: "Lawrence makes a full-length return to his own Dial label with Illusion. Following two critically-acclaimed albums for Mule Musiq, the follow-up to 2016's Yoyogi Park (MUSIQ 054CD/196LP) captures the Berlin-based artist, DJ, and label-owner at home in a suitably deep landscape of sound. Throughout, his involving and human approach to electronic music feels more inviting and more necessary than ever. Rather than the dancefloors across Europe that Lawrence has so fruitfully soundtracked over the past few decades, the sound of Illusion is inspired not only by his endless, constantly unfolding creative process, but a flurry of underground club gigs overseas including Japan and Mexico. In these close spaces, warmth and intimacy generate the atmosphere, and Illusion is naturally blessed with a typically delicate touch that might surprise even long-time devotees of the artist. On close listen, acoustic instruments and subtle field recordings provide a natural bedfellow to Lawrence's typically warm, earthy machine sound. Another influence is the artist's real-time live project, Sky Walking, and their shows in intimate venues such as Berlin's Acud and the legendary Golden Pudel Club in Hamburg. After pulling back the stage curtain with the mellow and inviting 'Crystal', the bubbling Lawrence grooves are quickly established on 'Treasure Box', alongside a complex but seductive tapestry of both electronic and acoustic sound. Before long the buoyant synths that drive 'Yu Yu' melt sensitively into a rich wash of strings. The second half of Illusion conjures somewhat darker magic, tunneling more so into the darker, psychedelic impulse within Lawrence's synthesis. 'Transitions' establishes an eerie atmosphere that's complemented by 'Dark Swirl', in which a deep, bottom-heavy bass line dances around a dense, atmospheric forest of effects. The record concludes with perhaps it's greatest moments of potential physical delight. Montreux divulges it's details gradually yet beautifully, anchored by a powerful kick, while 'Creepers' finishes the show with a deeply resonant, melodic and altogether transcendent trip, a full-scale but understated soothing of the body and mind. Continuing his story as one of the most accomplished producers in electronic music, Illusion finds Lawrence reflecting inward, back where he began. Able to conjure quietly breathtaking moments out of thin air, the intriguing effect of Lawrence's music continues to resonate."

UMILIANI, PIERO La Vendetta Di Lady Morgan CD
2012 release. Digitmovies, with collaboration of Gruppo Sugar, release for the first time, Piero Umiliani's soundtrack of the movie La Vendetta Di Lady Morgan (aka "Das Folterhaus Der Lady Morgan"). In 1965, after 5 Tombe Per Un Medium and Il Boia Scarlatto (both released in 1965), Massimo Pupillo directed his third gothic horror movie. The movie is one of the rarest Italian Gothic ever as at that time it had had a poor distribution and nowadays is still unreleased on the home video market. After the tragic death of her boyfriend Pierre (Michel Forain), Susan Morgan (Barbara Nelli) reluctantly marries Sir Harold (Paul Muller), who, by trying to drive the woman into suicide, wants to become heir to the riches of his wife, along with the housekeeper Lilian (Erika Blanc) and the butler Roger (Gordon Mitchell). Lady Morgan commits suicide by jumping from the tower of the castle, but returns as a ghost to take revenge on his "assassins", and even Pierre, who in fact had escaped from death, is killed because of the spirits and will be forced to wander for eternity as a vampire. La Vendetta Di Lady Morgan is full of all those elements which characterize the Gothic genre: the ancient castle, ghosts, vampires, and bloody revenge. Pupillo manages to stage a good horror film, maybe more in the vein of a stage than a movie drama, with a not very original plot, but without a doubt exciting and full of surprises. Piero Umiliani, one of the great names of film music and jazz in Italy, does not need a long presentation considering his long filmography which includes such internationally known successes as "Mah Nah Mah Nah". Maestro Umiliani (under the pseudonym of Peter O'Milian) has written a symphonic score featuring a ballad with an ancient flavor for classical guitar and orchestra which is reprised and alternated with experimental electronic music, dramatic and gloomy passages. For Digitmovies' CD they used every note recorded in mono during the original session. A must-have CD for the archives of all those who love this prolific genre.

RUSTICHELLI, CARLO Rosmunda E Alboino CD
2012 release. Digitmovies, with collaboration of Gruppo Sugar, release for the first time on CD, Carlo Rustichelli's complete original soundtrack, in mono, for the movie Rosmunda E Alboino (aka "Sword Of The Conqueror"). The movie was directed in 1961 by Carlo Campogalliani and starred Jack Palance, Eleonora Rossi Drago, Guy Madison, Carlo D'Angelo, Edy Vessel, Andrea Bosic, Ivan Palance, Vittorio Sanipoli, Olga Romanelli, Nicola Solari, Giovanni Vari, Vittorio Vaser, Vladimiro Tuicovich, Vladimiro Picciafuochi, Aldo Pini, Renato Mori, Spartaco Nale, Barbara Nardi, Amina Pirani Maggi, and Cesare Polacco. The Gepid Amalchi (Madison), who is guilty of not having avoided the disastrous defeat against the Lombards, is accused of high treason by his king Cunimondo (Bosic) and removed from his position. However, Alboin (Palance), the king of the Lombards, who is happy about his victory, has other intentions and wants to ally with the Gepids to attack Rome. As a pledge of the new covenant, Alboin asks for Rosmunda (Drago) to become his bride. Despite being Amalchi's wife and the mother of his child, she accepts the proposal for the good of their people. The brother of Alboin, however, is killed in the tournament which takes place before the wedding. The Lombard, who ignores the fact that the killing was schemed by a counselor of Cunimondo who operates secret negotiations with Byzantium, creates a bloodbath among the Gepids, and forces Rosmunda to marry him anyway. But Amalchi, who has gathered the scattered tribes of his people, suddenly attacks the palace of the Lombards and kills Alboin. For the realization of this CD Digitmovies used the mono master tapes of the original session, releasing every recorded note under the masterful conducting of Carlo Savina. Rustichelli has composed an orchestral OST with an ancient flavor, featuring vigorous passages for strings, brass, and percussion for battle scenes which get alternated with a delicate love theme. This OST is a must-have addition to each archive dedicated to soundtracks of high artistic quality. A proper rescue and preservation of the Italian silver age and a sincere tribute to the musical art of Carlo Rustichelli.

CIPRIANI, STELVIO I Due Della Formula 1 Alla Corsa Piu' Pazza, Pazza Del Mondo CD
Digitmovies release for the first time on CD Stelvio Cipriani's original soundtrack for the film I Due Della Formula 1 Alla Corsa Piu' Pazza, Pazza Del Mondo ("Formel I Und Zwei Halunken"). Stelvio Cipriani composed a brilliant OST with an amusing recurring main score with a touch of beat style. The author recalls the score in different versions and alternates it with a love theme in bossa tempo, and with adventure-style music with harp interventions for the gang of bandits who try to make life difficult for Franco and Ciccio. For Digitmovies' CD, they used every note recorded at the time which was contained on the stereo master tapes from the original recording session. Directed in 1971 by Osvaldo Civirani, the film starred Franco Franchi, Ciccio Ingrassia, Marisa Traversi, Umberto D'Orsi, Luciano Pigozzi, and Memmo Carotenuto. Franco and Ciccio, two clumsy car repairmen, manage to save the industrialist Ambrose Barillà from killing himself. Ambrose is in despair because the champion driver of his racing team, Gonzales, has been kidnapped. Ciccio comes up with an idea: since Franco is Gonzales's double, he will replace Gonzales in the race. Gonzales's kidnappers, who own a racing team of rival cars, are bewildered by the appearance of Franco and even more so when Franco manages to win (thanks to a chip designed by Ciccio which was inserted into the engine). As a reward, Franco and Ciccio receive a check from Ambrose that will allow them to open an appliance store.

TOROSSI, STEFANO Omicidio Per Vocazione CD
2016 release. Digitmovies release on CD Stefano Torossi's complete original soundtrack for the film Omicidio per vocazione ("Deadly Inheritance", "L'assassino Ha Le Mani Pulite"). Stefano Torossi composed a lounge-style score where the noir side of the story is contrasted with a danceable shake. There are also plenty of romantic themes as well as an atmosphere of suspense typical of giallo films. Originally C.A.M. had released eight musical selections on a promotional LP paired with the OST from the film (E' Stato Bello Amarti). This extremely rare vinyl was released for the first time on CD by Fin de Siècle Media in Sweden in 2009. For Digitmovies' CD they were able to access the master tapes in mono from the original recording session. The label found some unreleased material such as fabulous bossa, folk music, and other alternative and dance versions of previously released pieces - and all approved by Torossi. Directed in 1968 by Vittorio Sindoni, the film starred Tom Drake, Femi Benussi, Valeria Ciangottini, Ernesto Colli, Arnaldo De Angelis, Andrea Fantasia, Virginio Gazzolo, Ivo Garrani, Jeannette Len, Alessandra Maravia, Aurelio Marconi, Sergio Baldacchino, Aldo Bruno, Nicolas Solari, Giacomo Ricci, Isarco Ravaioli, and Silvano Spadaccino. Oscar, a railroad worker, dies when he is hit by a train and leaves a sizeable inheritance to his adopted son Jeannot. The conditions stated in the will arouse a fierce reaction from the other three children -- Colette, Simone, and Rosalie, as well as their partners/lovers. Sometime later a tortured body wearing Jeannot's clothes is discovered on the railroad tracks. While the police are fumbling around in the dark, Rosalie, Colette and Simone's lover are murdered one by one while Leon (Rosalie's husband) dies in an attempt to escape from the police -- who suspect him of the triple homicide. Simone is now the only heir left and she decides to leave the family home and hide out in the city. But a terrible surprise awaits: Jeannot is not only alive but he and a corrupt police officer have devised a plan to kill all the heirs. Together they try to kill Simone but the deputy inspector, who had been suspicious of his boss, arrives in time to save her.

MICALIZZI, FRANCO Albert E L'uomo Nero CD
2010 release. Digitmovies issuing for the first time on CD Franco Micalizzi's complete original soundtrack for the cult TV mini-series Albert E L'uomo Nero (aka "Albert And The Boogie Man") which had been broadcasted in three episodes by Italian television in 1976. The series was directed by Dino B. Partesano. While running in the country around a big villa close to Ravenna where he lives with his dad and his aunt Teresa, little Albert, a kid only ten-years-old, finds the corpse of his father's second wife near a canal. Albert is a child with a big imagination who through his fantasy and through games succeeds to fill all of the arid affective void around him and at the same to react to such a scary discovery. His real and recurrent nightmare is represented by the boogie man, a menacing figure whose face is covered with a ski mask and who by night smuggles into Albert's house. Only commissioner Gandini, who investigates into the murder of his stepmother, believes the kid who thanks to his details will let the policeman discover an unbelievable truth. In 1976 RCA had issued a 45rpm single with two tracks in full stereo by Franco Micalizzi. For this CD Digitmovies have used the original single stereo master tape and the complete mono master tapes vaulted in the RCA archives with all the music score written and recorded for the TV mini-series with the approval of the author himself. Micalizzi succeeded in creating the perfect musical atmosphere of the little protagonist by composing an OST with modern sounds (represented through the Moog keyboard performed by the author) with colors between pop and progressive, at the same time fascinating and macabre. The OST is based on two main themes which the composer reprises with continuous variations: "Albert E L'uomo Nero", with the typical giallo sound, as background music for the investigations about the mystery. And "Tema Di Albert", a sweet and nostalgic motif for the little protagonist with a lullaby flavor. Micalizzi has written suspense music where the strings are featured to describe all the macabre psychological darkness that surrounds the child, and also in pure police movie style. Besides the recent DVD which has given the chance to the youngest generation to discover this very good TV program, Dgitimovies CD sincerely wants to pay tribute to the excellent music score by Franco Micalizzi.

GRANO, ROMOLO Arcana / L'uomo Del Tesoro Di Priamo CD
2015 release. Digitmovies release for the first time on CD two extremely rare original soundtracks by Romolo Grano from the film Arcana and the TV show L'uomo Del Tesoro Di Priamo. For Arcana, Romolo Grano composed an OST where the main score emerges as a sort of concerto in three movements performed by an orchestra (with an emphasis on winds), the voice of Edda Dell'Orso, and pieces played by a Hammond organ. The score develops into an impending classic theme with the modern sound of drums. Psychedelic and macabre atmospheres alternate with a colorful Taranta (folk music) to accompany the most memorable scenes in the film. This OST was arranged and conducted by Berto Pisano.Arcana was directed in 1972 by Giulio Questi. L'uomo Del Tesoro Di Priamo transports the listener into the world of the archeologist Schliemann. The main score begins with a modern, danceable Greek flavor and is alternated with a charming archaic and Middle Eastern atmosphere with cord instruments, flutes, and percussion, as well as sirtaki and bouzouki songs, a nineteenth century waltz and symphonic music. This OST was arranged and conducted by Gianni Oddi. L'uomo Del Tesoro Di Priamo was directed in 1977 by Paolo Gazzara and written by Garza and Mino Damato. For Digitmovies' CD the label was able to use the master tapes in full stereo which had been previously recorded for the promotional albums released under the label Pegaso.

ROCCHI/ANDREA MILAN, RICCARDO Digitmovies Alternative Solo Version CD
The work that Digitmovies carry out is not just about recovering and restoring old soundtracks, but is about discovery and experimenting with new things. For this reason, the label wanted to write a chronicle of our musical history, and in the overview of our productions they have decided to include a production much different from our usual modus operandi. Digitmovies have remained true to their theme but experimented too, carrying out this project with simple yet different sounds from everything that they usually offer. The label has also had the fortune of meeting two excellent performers and professionals to help them. To illustrate this journey, Digitmovies have chosen some themes that have represented and represent the turning points on the path taken by their label. Riccardo Rocchi was born in Rome on April 14, 1976, and from an early age was drawn to studying classical and acoustic guitar. Under the guidance of Roberto Fabbri and Carlo Carfagna, he graduated from the Institute of Musical Studies G.Briccialdi of Terni, then continued studying with Mario Jalenti. Later he studied with Sergio and Odair Assad, Leo Brouwer, Eduardo Isaac, Carlos Bonell, Elliot Fisk, and other major international figures. He teaches at numerous international festivals dedicated to classical guitar and at the same time dedicates himself to concerts and teaching activities. For several years he has performed for cinema and television, collaborating with composers Franco Piersanti, Andrea Guerra, Marco Werba, Andrea Parri, Andre Matthias, and many others. He was a part of Fabio Frizzi's band for the Frizzi2Fulci tour, a show entirely dedicated to the music of legendary horror movies, westerns and detective stories from the great Roman director. Andrea Milan started studying classical guitar from an early age with Giovanni de Rosa. He continued his studies under the guidance of Leonardo Gallucci and graduated from the Conservatory "F. Cilea" in Reggio Calabria. Later he studied with Leo Brouwer, Elliot Fisk, Javier Garcia Moreno, and Carlos Bonell. At the same time as studying the classical guitar, he began studying modern guitar (rock, blues, and jazz) at the Saint Louis College of Music in Rome with musicians Mark Manusso, Antonio Affrunti, Cristiano Mastroianni, as well as jazz harmony with Pier Paolo Principato. In addition to his busy teaching schedule, he holds classical solo guitar recitals and plays in various sessions.

Fango provides a more angular, computerized take on the original, whilst Antoni Maiovvi raises the heat to a peak-time flow. Chinaski provides maximal '80s synth work on the "Painkiller Bonus VMix" and trippy dancefloor energy on the "Tech Noir" remix.

IDEALIST Mind Field 2LP
Idealist returns with his second full-length Mind Field, featuring eight dub-leaning cuts from the Swiss producer. Based out of Zurich, producer and DJ Idealist has become a respected figure in raw, dubby house and techno over the past five years via his releases on Echocord and his Idealistmusic and Details Series labels, picking up support along the way from the likes of Mike Huckaby, Dana Ruh, Tini , and Mandar to name but a few. Here, though we see him returning to Copenhagen's Echocord with his second long player, following 2016's Firewood Street on his own label. Leading on the package is "Explorer", setting the tone with crunchy percussion, billowing stab sequences and airy dub swells before "Dimension" employs pulsing subs, soft organ-like chords and gritty analog drums as its foundation whilst fluttering stabs and sweeping atmospherics wander within. "Stage One" is up next, consisting of a weighty low-end drive, thunderous kick and snappy clap running in unison with swirling dub echoes and tension-building strings, a shining example of an effective dub-techno tool. "Golden Places" offers something different, embracing a walking bass groove, soft 303-style resonant flutters and cinematic strings. "M.I.T.H" opens up the flips side of the release, upping the energy levels with a dynamic, robust rhythm, gritty stabs and murky modulating effects throughout before "Singularity" edges things back into deeper territory with fluttering synth licks, vacillating pads and low-slung drums. "Smoke and Mirrors" embraces a loop-driven approach next with a focus on short, sharp synth cuts, bumpy drums and skippy hats before "Final Cut", as the name would suggest, wraps up the album with oscillating percussion, choppy bass hits and raw drums all unfolding with the subtle nuances prevalent throughout yet another smooth and understated addition to Idealist's catalogue.

Witness a Middle Eastern song appearing amongst a haunted rattling reverb in the epic "Tank", whilst a beautiful force of hope can be found within the sound world of closing track "Mend". KODE9 & BURIAL FabricLive 100 CD
For the 100th and final installment of the iconic FabricLive mix series, in its current form, two UK pioneers unite for a hypnotic mix. Burial and Kode9 are each credited with fostering esoteric, hyperlocal sounds and steering them to global recognition, helping to shape the landscape of contemporary electronic music as we know it. Since launching his seminal Hyperdub imprint in 2004, Kode9 has sustained a reputation as one of the most innovative artists, curators and DJs. He has three studio albums, Memories of the Future (2006) and Black Sun (2010) with The Spaceape, Nothing (2015) and three DJ compilations, Dubstep Allstars vol.3 (Tempa 2006), DJ Kicks (!K7 2011) and Rinse 22 (Rinse 2013) to his name, as well as tracks released on labels ranging from Aphex Twin's Rephlex imprint and Soul Jazz to Warp and Domino. As one of the most enigmatic artists of the 21st century, Burial is responsible for birthing a sound that is truly singular. There are few producers whose work is so instantly recognizable, to the point that his name is now synonymous with a distinct set of eerie sonic components. His disquieting depictions of South London, informed heavily by sound system and UK rave culture, are widely considered masterpieces, with the cultural impact of his work echoing far further afield than his home-turf. His relationship with Kode9 and Hyperdub stems back to his first EP, South London Boroughs (2005), with almost every subsequent release, including two highly-influential studio albums, Burial (2006) and Untrue (2007) residing on the label. Both artist's origins can be traced back to bass-heavy strands of UK underground music -- a sphere in which they have worked closely together for many years -- but the idiosyncrasies of their respective styles are recognized on a much broader scale. As such, the mix reaches into obscure corners and a disorienting range of tempos across its 37 tracks. Featuring artists from Africa, China, South America and Japan as well as the Europe and US, the mix draws from gqom, juke and footwork to trance, jungle and grime, as well as a wealth of material that defies categorization. It sounds like it was stitched together from a box of unknown mixtapes found in the gutter. FabricLive 100 concludes the current strand of the beloved mix CD series in a way that honors its namesake clubnight. Covering many of the musical styles that have found their home within its walls, whilst simultaneously looking outward for inspiration. It is also a documentation of two of London's remarkably skilled artists delving deep for an undeniably unique collaboration.

FIZZ, THE State Of Emmergency LP
Favorite Recordings presents an official reissue of State Of Emmergency by French band The Fizz, originally released in 1986. A real underrated, complete and intriguing album, originally released as a private-press LP -- it's quite hard to find in good conditions nowadays. The Fizz was mostly the result of Patrick Jouanneau, a French musician, composer, and producer who's still active today. He remembers: "In the early '80s, I had a recording studio allowing me to easily fulfil my desire to create songs. It was then that I began to compose and write songs, in French or in English in this case. State Of Emergency (spelling on the LP is a mistake), is born from a fierce will on my part, and the other four have followed, but it was not easy, the musicians, you have to get them out of bed! I have to say that Richard Larozé, the pianist, was a very strong guy with harmonies, and has somewhat changed my first version, much more oriented in soul and R&B." And when asked about his main influences, Patrick says: "It's always difficult for me to speak about influences, out of respect, and humility especially, but they nourished us and nourished this project; Stevie Wonder, Al Jarreau, Earth, Wind & Fire, and so on, were and still are important to me and this was the case for the entire Fizz group." In the end, State of Emmergency by The Fizz is a very interesting and brilliant album with inspiring melodies and compositions. And who knows, listening to the title "A So Called Being" makes you think it could even have inspired a certain "King of Pop"...

WET TUNA Livin' The Die LP
2018 repress in Purple/Clear Splatter Vinyl. "Utterly boo-licious debut slab by this new duo, made up of Matt 'MV' Valentine and Pat 'P.G. Six' Gubler, who have been in cahoots since the near-forgotten days of Memphis Luxure. The pair (mostly known for guitar-aktion) create a full band's worth of jams using percussion and keys and all-else. The results make for one of the more mind-melting platters to've hit the Valley in a good while. Like many of the best sides this pair has been associated with, the music on Livin' The Die is an elegant balance of ramble and spear. The songs' formats are as loose as Earl Butz's shoes but each of them is lanced with guitar sounds as tight as his legendary fist. Around these spumes of electric menace you'll find rings of crazy space burble, vocals so deeply layered they sound like something happening in the back of Daevid Allen's brain. But large swathes of the album are rurally expansive, as befits the mountainside on which it was recorded. Pods of guitar-pedal-whomp slowly surface in the middle of whirling sea of harmonica slurps, juice harp bwongs and vocals as dreamy as they are lost. Roll a bone or be one. The choice, as always, is yours." --Byron Coley, 2018 Edition of 500.

PAUL, MARCO Adonai LP
Quest, transit, chaos, mutation, transfiguration, ascension, and illumination; these are some of the steps followed in the journey of life that are embodied on each track of the album Adonai. The solo debut by composer Marco Paul condenses a career of more than ten years in which the search for the truth of oneself has traveled and been nurtured by different genres and cultures. Adonai is an odyssey that combines sounds and images of earthly and oneiric worlds, an audiovisual work that opens several windows to the different perceptions of the facts that make up human life. After nine years of constant international touring, six albums and more than 400 performances with the bands Sour Soul, Ratbot, and Funk My Jesus, as well as the conception and musicalization of the award-winning short films Undermine (2013) and 24K All You Need Is Gold (2016), Paul decided to retire to an island in the Caribbean, where he refined his sound. Thus, between 2014 and 2016 he created the music for Adonai, a work produced by Aitor Etxebarria under the moniker Forbidden Colours. The recording includes guests such as Etxebarria (synthesizer, electronic magic) and Hibai Etxebarria (double bass) from the Basque Country; Michael Alan Hams (drums and percussion) and Joe D'Etienne (trumpet); and Fatima Gozlan. The consummation of the work is a mid-length film created in 2018. It consists of five chapters directed by five different directors. The audiovisual journey begins with the conception of the philosophical "Filius", an alchemical symbol that represents the inner child, which transforms the experiences of life into the soul's gold. Later, in "Sylvian" (a title that refers to the brain fissure that contains the auditory cortex), by listening to the subtle message that surrounds us, our consciousness and perception expand. Then, in "Tiamat", the pristine chaos that gave birth to the gods, embodies chaos, the confusion generated by the multiple voices: on one hand the moral and imposed precepts, and on the other hand, the inner voice that seeks the liberation of the infinite possibilities. In "Hawa", through the recognition of the power of solitude and introspection self-reflective awareness is reached. Finally "Adonai" is the ascension to enlightenment: the further connection with the absolute. As an encore, "Teurári" is a gift: a tiny flower where all the points of the universe merge.

FAPARDOKLY Fapardokly LP
2018 repress. Reissue of Farpardokly's self-titled release, originally released in 1967. Fapardokly is probably regarded as the most important release in Merrell Fankhauser's long career, and an absolute collector's item. The band recorded about 30 tracks in a small studio in Palmdale, California, from 1965 to 1967, when the owner of the studio decided to release an album with some of these tracks. With such different recording dates, you find here different sounds -- organized '60s pop, jangly folk-rock, psychedelia -- a truly fantastic album that finally gets, for the first time, a legit vinyl reissue and with the original artwork. Comes with an insert featuring photo from Merrell's personal archive, and liner notes by him as well.

MANOID Truth LP
Manoid returns to Hafendisko with his debut album, Truth, comprising six original tracks from the Polish producer and live act. Rising producer Manoid has been steadily developing his unique approach to electronic music for the past few years, releasing his first tracks in 2014 and co-producing material for fellow Polish artist Pola Rise, whilst taking his live act across the globe to The Netherlands, South Korea, Iceland, and more. Here though, we see him marking a milestone in his career with his debut album for Hafendisko, the Hamburg- based sublabel of HFN Music. Across Truth, Manoid delivers an amalgamation of styles ranging from jazz-tinged electronica through to modern classical and techno. Darkness Falls member and Trentemøller collaborator Josephine Philip also delivers vocals on "Take Me", adding yet another musical twist to the package, whilst further ideas came to fruition through field recordings such as "When", which is based upon recordings from a textile museum in the city of Lodz, and "For Roses" which was initially made as a lullaby for Manoid's niece but he felt was a little too dark so later developed it into this enchantingly eerie composition for the album. Trust radiantly displays charm, maturity and musicality throughout and joins the thread of his musical influences and experiences perfectly. LP includes download code.

LYDMOR I Told You I'd Tell Them Our Story LP
LP version. Gatefold sleeve; Includes printed inner sleeve and download code. Lydmor is Copenhagen-based Jenny Rossander, an electronic producer, composer, singer, songwriter and general troublemaker. I Told You I'd Tell Them Our Story is her third solo album, a multi-layered piece of modern electronic pop music. In her sounds and with her words, Rossander captures a reflective description of her surroundings and invites the listener to follow her on a very personal journey. After her first steps with her two solo albums (released in Denmark only to much applause), her first international release was Seven Dreams Of Fire (HFN 047CD/LP, 2015) as Lydmor & Bon Homme (with Tomas Høffding from WhoMadeWho). In 2016, Lydmor suddenly disappeared to Shanghai for several months. Her life in the Chinese metropolis inspired her to write a piece of modern electronic pop music which will be released as I Told You I'd Tell Them Our Story. With lots of initiative, Lydmor has made her dream come true to tour most of the world with her music. No matter if she plays an acclaimed festival, a famous club or the tiny living room of her greatest fans, every single one of Lydmor's shows means a highly intense experience. With her irresistible voice and unabashed honesty Lydmor places the little hooks of her melodies and lyrics into the electronic soundscape and she will flirt, dance, cry, scream and hug her way into your heart. After her first two albums, A Pile of Empty Tapes (2012) and Y (2015), Lydmor's new record will see her solo music released internationally for the first time by hfn music. I Told You I'd Tell Them Our Story is a rite of passage captured in intense moments experienced on the edge of the world and on the edge of one self. Lydmor lived in Shanghai for several months in 2016 and the Chinese metropolis inspired her to completely redefine her artistic expression and to write this new album.

THIRD EYE FOUNDATION, THE Wake The Dead CD
There was a time when The Third Eye Foundation was the mirror of the world from which the group drew its substance. But the reflection faded and dirt accumulated so it only provided deformed images and gradually became the world's shadow. This willingness to look at and express images and words about humans and their environment has since been embodied in the completely open face of its founder, Matt Elliott. Thus, The Third Eye Foundation is a discrete entity, the opposite of what Matt Elliott may otherwise represent. In 2010, The Dark (IDA 071CD) already portrayed this state of affairs. Today, Wake The Dead is banging the last nails into the boards that make up the barricades. Wake The Dead is like a key which attempts to open the doors of memory. Waking the dead is not a question of meaning but rather of sensations. Free will and free thought have no place here -- in the universe of The Third Eye Foundation, humans are no more than a simple product of their environment. This may seem extremely violent and dehumanizing but it is not the case at all. You need to get rid of your certainties, empty yourself, and put yourself on the same level as those considered to be "the other". And that's probably the greatest quality of an album like Wake The Dead. Its abstract compositions are without a format and thus implicitly participate in the deconstruction of the imaginary, of all logical forms which we sometimes cling to without even knowing why. It offers something essential in its unpredictable approach: the possibility of letting go without this ever being judged as an admission of weakness. In a way, Wake The Dead is an album without a beginning or an end. Its melodic variations instill themselves without the listener realizing, and then progressively changes the listener's perception of the work. The 40 minutes of throbbing, hypersensitive dubstep that make up the record are not aimed at sending a message to the mind; The intention is to make souls dance and to unite them. Personnel: Matt Elliott - all instruments, vocals; David Chalmin - additional keyboards, vocals, drum machine, manipulations, effects; Raphaël Séguinier - drums; Gaspar Claus - cello. CD version comes in a digisleeve.

URUK Mysterium Coniunctionis LP
LP version. Includes download card. URUK comes from the meeting in 2016 of two totally unclassifiable musicians: Thighpaulsandra and Massimo Pupillo. Thighpaulsandra has an impressive track record particularly playing on many Coil albums. Traces of this influence can be found in the keyboards used on Mysterium Coniunctionis. You could randomly pick such masterpieces as the two volumes of Musick To Play In The Dark (1999) and Astral Disaster (1999), records that were and still are among the best ambient albums ever made. He has also made several records in his own name (including the unpredictable Double Vulgar) and was a member of the UUUU project, which also featured a particularly creative Graham Lewis (Wire). Massimo Pupillo is well-known for having slammed a lot of ears as the bassist with the highly imposing Italian jazzcore trio Zu (those who saw them on stage will understand). 2009's Carboniferous or the more recent 2014 collaboration with Eugene Robinson (Oxbow) still resonate for a lot of listeners. In 2016, Massimo was in Triple Sun (no doubt a reference to the splendid song by Coil, again) alongside two well-known musicians at Ici D'ailleurs: Raphaël Séguinier and David Chalmin (The Third Eye Foundation). URUK also and especially brought out their first album in 2017: I Leave A Silver Trail Through Blackness. This is an imposing piece of dark ambient music in which the two musicians proved that they are more than just the sum their respective experiences. They are sound explorers obsessed by grasping the detail that shifts listeners from one world to another. Their second album, Mysterium Coniunctionis makes direct reference to the eponymous and testamentary work of the psychiatrist Carl Jung, subtitled An Inquiry Into The Separation And Synthesis Of Psychic Opposites In Alchemy. It clearly reflects the duo's intention to create particularly immersive and meaningful music from supposedly opposing materials -- in this case the meeting of electronic and organic sounds. The record is released as part of Ici D'ailleurs's Mind Travels collection.

OFFICER! Earlier Music CD
"Officer! was founded by Londoner Mick Hobbs. His roots were in the RIO scene of the late 70s and early 80s. Initially he worked as guitarist in The Work, subsequently he became closely associated with This Heat and their Cold Storage Studio in Brixton, working with artists like Family Fodder, Catherine Jauniaux or Zeena Parkins. The band's first album 8 New Songs By Mick Hobbs came out in 1982 on cassette only. It forms the first half of this CD re-issue. With the exception of two songs that came out on 7" on Blackest Ever Black in 2014, the album has never been re-issued in any form, the cassette is nearly impossible to get. It marked the birth of a unique songwriter and improviser with a gift for melodies, difficult arrangements and poignant lyrics. The second album, Ossification, arrived a year later and has been made available on CD. The third album, Cough was recorded and released in France in 1985. It is often overlooked in the band's discography, a fate that many cassette releases share. Again, this is the first time that these songs are being made available. Both tapes have been remastered in 2018 and are presented here for the first time ever in digital quality. Officer! are one of the most important bands in the British art rock scene. COLEMAN, ANDREW Looking For Ornette 2DVD
"DVD 1: Looking For Ornette - a film by jacques goldstein, 2016, 61', stereo. Jacques Goldstein goes on a quest for a spectre, a spectre that haunts Jazz. Who was Ornette Coleman, the saxophonist and composer whom we owe the invention of Free Jazz to... If his seminal body of work is now -- rightfully so -- fully recognized, the man remained deliberately mysterious and enigmatic. The director makes attempts to approach him. He visits and interviews musicians who owe him a lot. A portrait of Ornette takes shape as these sketches gradually unfold, the man who thought that beauty was a rare thing. DVD 2: Ornette - Apparitions a film by ste?phane jourdain, 2016, 56', stereo, 5.1. From his career debut within the ONJ (french National Jazz Orchestra) to his duet Grand Bazar with Eve Ris- ser, Antonin-Tri Hoang's music is reminiscent of the late Ornette Coleman, with its florid lyricism and a similar taste for controlled skidding. Commissioned by Banlieues Bleues, Ornette - Apparitions aims at summoning the spirit of the free jazz godfather. Antonin-Tri Hoang offers dreams, wanderings, evocative bridges. Not a revival, but a survival. His Novembre quartet, joined by its many guests, masters the art of zapping and collage between eras and references. The film is the story of this creation and of these apparitions." NTSC format.

ATKINS, JUAN Dimensions / Flash Flood 12"
"Established by Diagonal Records co-founder, Jaime Williams, Life's Good is a necessary, occasional new portal for reissues of golden era Detroit and European techno. The label's first project pays special attention to an overlooked classic and an unheard diamond by Juan Atkins: namely his M500 gem 'Dimensions', which originally appeared on the seminal Buzz compilation, Panic In Detroit; and a previously unreleased version of the Tresor bomb, 'Flash Flood', produced under Juan's Infinti moniker. Both tracks have been 'salvaged' by Russell Haswell and newly remastered by Rashad Becker, bringing them firmly up to scratch for DJs and rendering the material how the artist originally intended it to be received. A stellar highlight of the lush Panic In Detroit compilation and a huge personal favorite of Life's Good, M500's pendulous, percolated and uncannily UK-styled bleeper 'Dimensions' was unfortunately crammed along with three other tracks on the LP's A-side, which made the track tricky or unsuitable for DJing in clubs. With Juan's blessing and access to the original master tapes, Life's Good Records have rectified the problem, re-cutting the tune to its own side of vinyl and, in the process, lending a new lease of life to one of Juan Atkins' subtlest, slinkiest and entrancing early '90s workouts. On the B-side, Life's Good have coaxed out an abridged, alternate version of the all-time classic 'Flash Flood,' which should be well known and adored by any self-respecting Detroit fiend. However, in this version the intro is entirely different, replacing the trancey lead with an acidic synth voice and swapping out the percolated bass for rugged sub-bass surges to much darker, paranoid effect that better lives up to the track's impending title. With the original now over 20 years old and very familiar to the 'heads', the alternate version presents a truly revelatory twist on an evergreen techno anthem."

SCHULZE'S WAHNFRIED, KLAUS Trance 4 Motion CD
"This is the re-issue of the Wahnfried/Klaus Schulze album Trance 4 Motion, which was originally released in the year 2000 as part of the strictly limited and long deleted Contemporary Works boxset. For over two decades, Klaus Schulze's alter- ego Richard Wahnfried has been making memorable and timeless music and there are no signs of it stopping yet. The tense, rhythmic counterplay of 'Local Scanning' sets the tone for the album; early versions of the track, containing electric guitars and vocals, are cast aside and the music proceeds with minimal sequences, heavy percussion and the sort of effective filter modulations that only a Moog wizard like Wahnfried is able to create. The next track 'Aphrodesire' takes the same tone as 'Local Scanning', yet builds on it and and excites with hypnotic effect. For the last track, 'Global Midication', Cologne-based collective Solar Moon (with engineer Tom Dams) collaborate with Klaus to add an air of relentless, timeless modernity. Another pearl from the huge Schulze Cosmos."

"This release couples two of Reich's 'sextets' for the first time: the Sextet of 1984 and the Pulitzer Prize winning Double Sextet of 2007, which also makes its first appearance on LP. A striking difference between the two pieces is that the rhythmic world of Sextet mostly consists of a single-meter grooving, while Double Sextet works in the angular, off-kilter shifting meters reminiscent of Reich's Tehillim (also of Stravinsky). Ekkozone impart a uniquely chamber music feel and color to these works while maintaining their propulsive character. Liner notes by Adam Sliwinski. LP lacquers and mastering by veteran Scott Hull at Masterdisk. Plated and pressed by RTI, California. Danish percussionist and conductor Mathias Reumert lives and breathes contemporary classical music. An in-demand soloist, he explores new percussive territory while remaining a committed interpreter of yesterday's masterworks. As creator and leader of the acclaimed ensemble Ekkozone, he explores the boundaries between classical, world and experimental music in performances at rock and jazz festivals. Ekkozone is a Danish crossover ensemble that masterfully explores the lines between classical, world and experimental music. ITABASHI, FUMIO Watarase LP
Is Watarase the best jazz record from Japan, as the French-born Gilles Peterson once assumed? Or is it maybe the best jazz record of all jazz records? Everyone can decide for themselves and listen to Watarase, the second solo piano album of the Japanese pianist Fumio Itabashi, originally released in 1982. Tokyo-based Mule Musiq have unearthed it, re-mastered the original recordings and brought it back to the world in order to seduce all music lovers that embrace notes which come straight from the heart and soul. Any sensible listener finds the instrumental piano pieces are somehow soulfully connected to what Keith Jarrett plays on his legendary Köln Concert (1975). Like Jarrett, Itabashi does not play his notes academically. He lets them fly, gives them some kind a life of their own, hits the piano keys deeply emotionally and injects his into compositions and interpretations a kind of nervous human soul. In terms of style, some call his Watarase recordings post-bop, others contemporary jazz. It is all, however, just that kind of agitating jazz that melts spirituality with humanity. Three tunes, the epic "Someday My Prince Will Come" as well as "Msunduza" and "I Can't Get Started", are interpretations, respectively, of compositions by Frank Churchill, Dollar Brand, and Vernon Duke. The other four compositions were written and by Itabashi, who started to play the piano when he was eight years old. While studying at Tokyo-based Kunitachi College Of Music, he fell in love with jazz. In the 1970's, he worked with such musicians like trumpet player Terumasa Hino, drummer Takeo Moriyama, and saxophonist Sadao Watanabe. Today Itabashi is still a vital part of Japanese jazz culture as a performer and composer. Those who want to see how he makes love with his piano should check the Internet for the French documentary Jazzed Out (2010), that captured his unique way of playing in one episode. But as music is always firstly for the ears, and not the eyes, one had to be directed to play the Watarase recordings loud, to get hooked by the highly infectious piano gems that have been recorded at Nippon Columbia 1st studio in Tokyo on 12th and 13th of October 1981. They will force one to become a good friend with the repeat button, in whatever medium one chooses to surrender to the music of Fumio Itabashi.

NU GUINEA Nuova Napoli LP
Almost two years after the success of the album The Tony Allen Experiments (COMET 072LP, 2016) and a few months after the release of the 7" Amore (2017), the duo Nu Guinea return to the scene with a new LP published by their newborn label NG Records. After touring the world looking for sounds suitable for their vibrations, Nu Guinea decided to go back to square one, Napoli, where Massimo Di Lena and Lucio Aquilina were born and raised. They watched their city from a distance reconstructing its energy from their studio in Berlin, calibrating the synths on the meridian of Vesuvius, the volcano that has always protected and threatened Napoli. Nuova Napoli is the result of a long musical research that has become a historical investigation on the sound that shaped Napoli during the '70s and '80s, starting from the contamination of genres (disco, jazz-funk, African rhythms) which ended up in Nu Guinea's DNA. In this album the synthesizers fill the spaces between the past and the future, tightening in a single body acoustic instruments, electronics and voices in Neapolitan dialect. It is the first time that the duo has worked with such a large group of musicians, some of whom are exponents of the contemporary Neapolitan scene. It is recommended that you listen to Nuova Napoli while walking in the alleys of Napoli's historic center, around wet clothes hanging and street vendors on tiny three-wheelers.

FIXMER, TERENCE Through The Cortex LP
LP version. Terence Fixmer's path through the changing techno landscape of the past twenty years has been anything but direct. Indeed, the French-born producer, musician and Planete Rouge label founder has long been influenced by the periphery of continental European dance music subgenres from electronic body music, new beat and acid, before combining them into his own pioneering hybrid of futuristic, EBM-inflected techno with classic releases such as Muscle Machine (2001) or the collaborative Between The Devil (2004) with Nitzer Ebb's Douglas McCarthy. While his sound in recent years has been rediscovered and recast in diverse contexts by a new generation of producers, his new album, Through The Cortex sees Fixmer gravitating toward a different kind of industrial-tinged electronics, led as much (or more) by analog sequencers, melodies and ultra-saturated sounds of synthesizers than drums and percussion. Across eight tracks at a compact but varied 40 minutes, the LP touches on an aesthetic hinted at in recent Ostgut Ton releases Beneath The Skin (OSTGUT 097EP, 2016) and Force (OSTGUT 106EP, 2017), revealing a sonic narrative through noisy, screaming synth/vocal riffs with a jagged, guitarlike post-punk sensibility. Through The Cortex is techno with a voice, or rather multiple voices, guiding listeners through hypnotic, space- and social-themed terrain as a kind of dark soundtrack to darker days. The result ranges from the slow John Carpenter-inspired funk of "Expedition" and the patient yet muscular stomp of "Fury" to the mesmerizing Suicide-like pop of single "Accelerate", where Fixmer, using his voice as an instrument, chants the track's ambiguous title in an invocation of systemic change/collapse. Elsewhere, the story is told with more abstract and wailing vocals like on "Shout in A Black Hole", or in the warm, entrancing chords floating across the stereo image in ostensibly changing time-signatures on "A Halo Somewhere", the LP's uncharacteristically kosmische musik come-down. The track, and Through The Cortex as a whole, reflect what can be described as Fixmer's idiosyncratic take on both techno subgenres as well as the larger pool of electronic music in general. This broad approach translates into a sound that is not only difficult to pin down, but also one that lends itself to multiple listens.

VA Girls In The Garage Volume 4 LP
Past & Present presents Girls In The Garage Volume 4, the fourth volume of a series of garage rock compilations focusing on female artists. Prior to Joan Jett, Patti Smith, Courtney Love and other era-defining women in rock, there were the girls in the garage. Like their male counterparts discovered, being in a band was not only cool and alluring, it was sexual and ultimately political without making a political statement. The garage band was a medium that enabled a voice to be heard, whether it be an adolescent fury of angst and frustration or plain old hormones. Girls In the Garage captures the raw essence of those juvenile dreams played out through guitars, drums, microphones and amplifiers. Prevailing gender roles would be tested, and rock 'n' roll became someone else's domain: the girls. Although it's been said that it was rare for a girl group to play on their own records in the mid-1960s, they were many exceptions. On both sides of the Atlantic, cynical and shrewd producers largely employed session musicians, afraid of any conceivable faults at the hands of such young and innocent hands, male and female. The ones who didn't were bold visionaries that believed not only in this new generation's ambitions, but their capabilities as well. As the female presence in rock n' roll gained traction through the appearance of figures such as The Vejtables, Jan Errico, The Honeycombs' Honey Lantree, and the fabulous Maureen Tucker (The Velvet Underground), so too did the rise of all-female bands. Liverpool's Liverbirds and Hull's Mandy and The Girlfriends gave weight to the idea that it was "normal" and paved the way for like-minded girls to pick up their guitars. Although the prevailing attitude among both major and independent record labels was never going to be inspiring or welcoming, times were changing and girls didn't just want to have fun. Emerging groups such as The Pleasure Seekers, White Boots, Ace Of Cups, Bittersweets, and The Luv'd Ones were playing rock n' roll on their own terms whilst breaking new ground, whether they were trying to or not. Features The Southern Belles, Bonnie Jo Mason, The Girls, The Cake, Kathy Clarke, Minnie & The Kneebones, The Supergirls, Kay Bell & The Tuffs, Feebeez, Jean Robinson, The Ladybugs, The Daughters Of Eve, The Rums & Coke, The Sham-Ettes, The Debs, Society's Children, and The GTO's. 180 gram, purple vinyl; Includes four-page vinyl booklet; hand-numbered sleeves; Edition of 1000.

HOPKINS AND MARK HARWOOD, MP Disfigured With Abbreviations LP
Debut recording from two troubadours of oppositional creep, MP Hopkins and Mark Harwood. Inspired by Philip K. Dick and the useless machines that haunt us all, Disfigured With Abbreviations is a roundtable exquisite corpse which crawls through a miraculous environment, at once sensual and sinister. How is it that the perpetual promise of a future lands us in a deeper quagmire? How do two gentlemen with scruffy vocabularies fall into a sonic landscape of such haunted beauty? Following their debut live performance on the rooftop of a bakery in Northcote, Victoria in January 2018, Harwood and Hopkins soon set about making a recording. Initially structured with individual recordings placed on each other regardless of content and positioning the works soon evolved into a rich labyrinth of found sound, field recordings, electronics and voice with all elements mapping out a landscape heroic in its embracing of utter failure. Artwork by Hopkins and Harwood. Printed inner disco sleeve and reverse board jacket.

Material source from voice and body sounds, recording of non-musical processes, actions and events, breath, tapes of animal sounds slowed and sped up, processed field recordings, electronics, percussion, tape delay, samples of old Folkways records, and Esperanto text-to-voice translations. PLAGNE, FRANCIS Moss Trumpet LP
Having released four full-length albums framed around more song-oriented spheres, Melbourne artist Francis Plagne has concurrently moved around collaborative endeavors with Andrew Chalk, Joe Talia, and Crys Cole. He was also a part of that Food Court record released on Graham Lambkin's Kye label in 2014. Which brings us to Moss Trumpet, Plagne's first solo album which exclusively orbits a more abstract domain. Taking inspiration from Costin Miereanu's Luna Cinese (1975), this gentle curiosity records the private use of flute, harmonium, keyboards, microphones, organ, paper, percussion, recorder, synthesizer, tapes, tuba, voice, whistle, and zither. Like Miereanu's master stroke, these recordings were then collated in semi-random layers creating shifting beds of subtle startling sound. Moss Trumpet is a timeless affair, warm and woozy as if it is drifting over two sides where each could be either, where the audio perpetually falls in on itself creating a bed of sound inexplicably eschewing standard movement and progression as it unfolds out and around the listener. NIAGARA Apologia LP
Apologia is a set of unique psychedelic killers from Niagara, mounting a sterling debut album for Lisbon's Príncipe five years after their first 12", Ouro Oeste (2013). Trust that they have lost none of the weirdness that's endeared them to freaks around the world ever since they emerged. If anything they're stranger, spaced-out and more porous to wild influence on the 13 tracks of Apologia. Outlining Niagara's definitive description of contemporary exotica, Apologia limns a frayed, buzzing sort of "Fourth World PLUS" sound, where the "PLUS" refers to their embrace of noise as an agent of chaos. But it's not necessarily malefic chaos, and should be taken as a smart acknowledgement of the overlooked yet crucial role that roughness of grain and construction play in contrast with so many clinically smooth and even anodyne efforts from the same, imagined arena of worldly music for a new age. In allowing for the entropy of time and the inevitable infidelity of attrition to enter their soundsphere, Niagara's organic machine music keenly reflects a natural world order without the need for algorithmic process. Their world is a fertile interplay of acoustic and electronic sources rendering hazy, fata morgana-like glimpses of musical possibility, practically triangulating the visions of like minds such as Jamal Moss/Hieroglyphic Being and Dolo Percussion with the explorative precedents of Portugal's Telectu to realize a fine expression of anachronistic modernism. Most of the tracks loosely work around three-minute timeframes, lending a zig-zagging mosaic quality to the track list in between its longer parts. Richly colorful spiritual jazz arps and raw machine grooves spring from opener "França", triggering a cascade of ideas that bends between acidic kosmiche in "6:30" to the heat-sick boogie gliss of "40" and the stark emptiness of "Senhora Do Cabo", to give up the gorgeous, extended flute and acid meditation "Siena", and mess with Vangelis-style synth majesty on "Via Garibaldi", before spending their coolest energies in the drowsy Afro-Latin swagger of "Cabo Verde". It's hard to ignore the fact that Alberto, António and Sara aka Niagara have distilled their sound to imperfection on Apologia, resulting one of 2018's most crucial lo-fi electronic albums. Artwork/hand-painted sleeves by Márcio Matos, edition of 500.

NACHTBRAKER When You Find a Stranger in the Alps 2x12"
2x12" version. comes on 140 gram vinyl. Includes download code. After a string of acclaimed EPs on Heist, Dirt Crew and Quartet Series, Amsterdam's Nachtbraker presents When You Find A Stranger In The Alps, his first long-player on his own Quartet Series imprint. The good-humored Dutchman, tongue always firmly in cheek, has always refused to stick to the "sound du jour" and the industry's conventions, following his own path instead, continually willing to step out of his comfort zone. When You Find A Stranger In The Alps, a nod to his favorite Coen Brothers movie, is testament to Nachtbraker's studio prowess and drive to explore new sonic pastures and styles. The album consists of thirteen tracks, made over the course of two-and-a-half years in his studio. Constantly shifting through different settings and moods, the album feels like a deep dream, with vivid details, blurry edges and a warped sense of time. The word "stranger" in the title references the dream state in which one can sometimes be a stranger to oneself. Opener "The Dream Sequence" sets the mood with a lo-slung hip-house groove that relies on field recordings, like the sound of one of the capital's trams. "Flambo", a delectable slice of up-tempo French-filtered house, is aimed straight at the dance floor. Nachtbraker dims the lights on "NSFW", cleverly manipulating samples from adult-oriented flicks, and turns in a hilarious skit with "LOL". "Randy", a quintessential Nachtbraker track, morphs from a Balearic, tropical disco shuffler to a dance floor banger. "Driving Me Lazy" starts out as a down-tempo number but changes into a full-on drum-n-bass workout. The driving "You Can't Run" features drunken chords over a sober beat, conjuring up visions of running circles in a dark maze. "Just Doing My Thang" rides a classic broken beat, while Nachtbraker pushes the boundaries again on "Innaspace", which starts out as an instrumental hip-hop track yet finishes on a jungle tip. "Aliens" is a choppy, heads-down groover with cheeky UFO-geek samples that wouldn't be out of place on a mid-90's West Coast deep house compilation. "Horsepony" finds Nachtbraker on a sultry Nightmares On Wax tip. Finally, it ends with where it all started, the moment "When You Wake Up". The album was recorded and mixed at Nachtbraker's studio in the Amsterdam Volkshotel. All 13 tracks are run through 2" tape on a Studer A800 and are mastered at Q-lab in Basel, Switzerland.

This album also features two solo-piano versions of Idea Fire Company bangers: "The Life of the Party" from Music From The Impossible Salon (KYE 010LP, 2011) and "The Island of Taste," from The Island of Taste (2008). ELECTRIC CITIZEN Helltown CD
"Helltown, the forthcoming third album by Electric Citizen is, in many ways, a homecoming. While the title may seem fittingly metal (if not exceedingly so), it actually has real relevance: Helltown, while also multidimensional, is named after the Cincinnati, OH, neighborhood in which the band lives, practices, and where the album was written, recorded and mixed. Now known more prosaically as Northside, Helltown earned its name in the 1800s due to its reputation for rowdy taverns frequented by the neighborhood of factory workers and immigrants. Inasmuch as this album is an ode to the band's home and its buried past, it also represents a return to the grittier sound of their 2014 debut, Sateen. Furthermore, it marks the return of original bassist Nick Vogelpohl, who rejoins vocalist Laura Dolan, guitarist Ross Dolan and drummer Nate Wagner. It's a fun, tough, dirty rock 'n' roll album. The band's 2016 album Higher Time was an expansive and somewhat cleaner effort mixed by Black Keys engineer Collin Dupuis. It was a landmark moment for the band earning considerable press praise?Consequence Of Sound named it in the 20 Most Anticipated Albums of 2016 with "the most breakout potential of all the young bands on this list." And, the band's endless touring since the first album earned them stints opening for acts like Pentagram, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Fu Manchu, Budos Band, and Wolfmother. What sets Electric Citizen apart from contemporary heavy counterparts is their songwriting. The band writes concise, three-minute, heavy rock songs. While others might now be following suit, when they started, most bands of their ilk were content writing drawn-out slow doom dirges. Regardless, none can deliver quite like Electric Citizen: Laura Dolan's captivating star-power, Ross Dolan's perfect tone and riffs, Wagner's pugilistic and swinging beats, glued together by Vogelpohl's gliding bass lines."

With Marchesa she pays homage to the writing and stories of the Marquis De Sade who has always been a great inspiration for her. With this album Lydia transports us into a world of sadism, perversion and pleasure. Accompanying her in this literary voyage there is a background of dissonant sounds, distorted orchestration and ambient noises composed by Stefano Rossello (Bahntier, Ketvector) and by Lunch herself. A sensual and perverse homage to sadism, spirituality and fulfilment. It is certainly one of Lydia Lunch's most complete and shocking works. An absolute must!"

EARTHLESS From The West LP
"In the eve of the release of Black Heaven, their debut for Nuclear Blast Records, Earthless turned in this incredible live performance in San Francisco on March 1st, 2018, captured and released on vinyl by Silver Current Records. Since their inception seventeen years ago, this band has become an icon of 21st century heavy music and a cult unto themselves. On From The West the band's signature high-volume drive and unbridled horsepower create an almost mantra-like repetition as a framework for infinite improvisation. That, and beer-can crushing, fist-pumping riffs and solos delivered by an unstoppable rhythm section. This album is a complete, hypnotic, psychedelic experience in a way that remains totally unique to the band's virtuosic expression. A live album that captures the band at peak powers and a quintessential fan piece from one of the best live rock bands in the world. Album tracks includes looser, rawer versions of Black Heaven favorites, a nearly twenty-minute version of their instrumental titan 'Uluru Rock,' and a blazing cover of Led Zeppelin's 'Communication Breakdown.' The album jacket is also a meticulous reproduction of the band's favorite TMOQ (Trademark Of Quality) Zeppelin bootleg."

BENDER, JOHN Pop Surgery LP
"Following the release of lo-fi electronic masterpiece I Don't Remember Now / I Don't Want To Talk About It (1980) and his brilliant follow-up Plaster Falling (1981), Cincinnati-based artist John Bender began assembling his third and last album, Pop Surgery, in late 1982. While all of Bender's work draws from intimate home recordings - featuring the artist alone with various keyboards, analogue sequencers and tape delays - Pop Surgery remains the one that perhaps best distills his arrant deconstruction of the 'pop' concept. These twelve frenetic tracks, meticulously stitched together with dubbed-out vocals and disjointed drum machines, stretch the boundaries of bedroom electronics. Bender would forgo the handmade LP sleeves typical of his Record Sluts imprint. The cover depicts an imposing scrapyard crane, ready to pick up discarded objects with its bright red electromagnet, while the center labels détourn Columbia's classic 1970s style. 'I pressed a single run of 500 copies,' Bender recounts. 'The only review I remember railed at the poor production quality. The DIY era had clearly come to an end.' This first-time standalone reissue is recommended for fans of Suicide, TG's 20 Jazz Funk Greats (1979) and early Cabaret Voltaire. Liner notes by John Bender."

CURRAN, ALVIN Canti E Vedute Del Giardino Magnetico LP
"American composer and multi-instrumentalist Alvin Curran has remained one of the great emblems of experimental music for the last half-century. In 1966, along with Frederic Rzewski and Richard Teitelbaum, Curran co-founded Musica Elettronica Viva, a seminal gesture in collective free improvisation. In the early 1970s, his solo work would become a crucial bridge between minimalist traditions on both sides of the Atlantic. Canti E Vedute Del Giardino Magnetico, Curran's solo debut, was recorded by the artist himself and issued on Ananda, the small Italian imprint started by Curran and fellow composers Giacinto Scelsi and Roberto Laneri. The piece itself was put together in the winter of 1973 and presented for the first time at Teatro Beat 72 (Rome's The Kitchen). Encouraged by the work of Terry Riley, La Monte Young, Charlemagne Palestine and Simone Forti, Curran binds the listener to aberrant notions of place and time: blending field recordings (wind, high-tension wires, beach waves, etc.) with simple and often primitive instruments. Across two sidelong tracks, Giardino Magnetico forms a lyrical collage of synthesizer, glass and metal chimes, plastic tubes, brass and the composer's alluring voice, converging in an immersive realm of Curran's inner / outer experiences. This first-time vinyl reissue is recommended for fans of Harry Bertoia, Michel Redolfi and Lino Capra Vaccina."

NIBLOCK, PHILL Niblock For Celli/Celli Plays Niblock LP
"Composer, filmmaker and photographer Phill Niblock is a true pillar of the New York avant-garde. In the past 50 years, he has curated over 1,000 performances at his Centre Street loft and steadfastly built a massive, multidisciplinary body of work. While his earliest musical compositions date back to 1968, Niblock waited until the early '80s to release any recordings. Nothin To Look At Just A Record, a powerful debut with densely layered trombones, would be the first to unfurl his unique approach to sound. The second album and perhaps the most rare in Niblock's vast catalogue, 1984's Niblock For Celli/Celli Plays Niblock is a meeting of two great minds. Working with reed player Joseph Celli (a composer in his own right, who has collaborated with John Cage, Pauline Oliveros and Ornette Coleman), Niblock nimbly removes the breathing pauses from Celli's oboe and English horn to create seamless, enchanting drones. Niblock insists that his music be played loud: only in this way can one experience the visceral ringing of these long instrumental tones through the speakers and their natural overtones generated by the room. Niblock For Celli remains deeply absorbing. This first-time reissue is recommended for fans of Alvin Lucier, Yoshi Wada and Dome."

DE ROUBAIX, FRANCOIS Le Saut De L'Ange/R.A.S LP
Never released before on LP, here are the complete original soundtracks of French cult film composer François de Roubaix for director Yves Boisset. Two movies that embody the two sides of Francois de Roubaix's approach to recording. For Le Saut De L'Ange (1971) the self-taught composer wrote an orchestration for some fifty musicians playing strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion with two distinct solo instruments alternating the main theme: Indian sitar on the one hand and accordion on the other. This beautiful score creates the seam that binds Bangkok to Marseille, the two places where the action takes place. Le Saut De L'Ange was originally released as a 7" in 1971. R.A.S (1973) was recorded on a 8-track tape recorder, in François de Roubaix's home studio rue de Courcelle, where most of his '70s scores were recorded. The result is a mix of military-march rhythms, rolls on the snare-drum with sounds of Synthi AKS synthesizer: de Roubaix invented a modern sound for this contemporary-history tragedy. MORRICONE, ENNIO Grazie Zia LP
For the first time on vinyl, Transversales Disques presents Ennio Morricone's full score for the 1968 erotico-giallo film Grazie Zia. Grazie Zia was directed in 1968 by Salvatore Samperi and starred Italian actress Lisa Gastoni. Remastered from the original tapes and presented in a limited edition with an obi strip.

WINGTIP SLOAT Purge And Swell/The Lost Decade LP+CD
"Wingtip Sloat's slashing and arty post-punk sounds weirdly contemporary these days, so what better news than to have their first new music in almost twenty years! Purge And Swell is a 12-inch 45 RPM mini LP with ten new tracks, and is accompanied by a 76-minute bonus CD Lost Decade with thirty-one additional tracks. The 12-inch includes plenty of the trebly guitar blare and low-fi charm immediately familiar from the group's classic early '90s singles, backstopping winning and memorable tunes like 'Stars Bailed Out' and 'Gizzard Jett.' The bonus CD includes bric-a-brac from the Sloat rehearsal room, with found poetry, perfect ninety-second rockers (the DC-specific 'Cruisin' The Ellipse'), confusing instrumental detours, and winsome covers of Eno, Dylan, Wire, Belle & Sebastian and more."

VAINICA DOBLE Vainica Doble (Clear Vinyl) LP
Vinilisssimo present a reissue of Vainica Doble's self-titled debut album, originally released in 1971. It can be argued that Serge Gainsbourg was a typically French artist, although his music was so personal that it would be difficult to find another similar artist in France at the time. The same could be said about Vainica Doble. They were a duo with a distinctly Spanish edge, although it is almost impossible to establish parallels between them and any other Spanish music released during the years they were active. Gloria Van Aerssen and Carmen Santonja were truly unique and their mix of folk, traditional genres and psych rock is a landmark in Spanish pop. Vainica Doble is their impossible-to-find first album, which despite extremely low sales -- it is said that the majority of the copies were destroyed by one of the investors in the Ópalo label after shipping them to Argentina -- has been highly influential for generations of pop musicians in Spain and a holy grail item for many music fans. There are plenty of reasons for this. The opening track, "Caramelo De Limón", already shows how effective their personal musical recipe can be. Fantastic vocal harmonies, unexpected arrangements, original elements brought into the song and even fierce guitars where needed (their backing band, Los Tickets, would later become Asfalto, one of the biggest hard rock bands in Spain). As the album progresses, every track is a wonderfully idiosyncratic marvel: "Dime Félix", "Roberto Querido", "Fulgencio Pimentel"? One can even find drum breaks on "Quién Le Pone El Cascabel Al Gato". The package is completed with the amazing psychedelic artwork designed by Ivan Zulueta, a cult Spanish artist whose work spanned different fields and some will remember for his film posters for Pedro Almodóvar. Includes booklet with notes by Vicente Fabuel. Presented in facsimile artwork and pressed on 180 gram vinyl. Ultra-clear vinyl; edition of 100.
