BLUE ANGEL LOUNGE, THE Narcotica LP
2019 repress; LP version. While staying true to their Nico and Velvet Underground- inspired colors, broader timeless inspiration of new wave, post-punk, and shoegaze are accentuated throughout Blue Angel Lounge's release, Narcotica. The band present a strong balance between relatively up-tempo songs such as "Caught Crow" or "Delete My Ideals" and the atmospheric and psychedelic in tracks "I Will Never" and 'Son of the Ocean." Narcotica was self-produced with the assistance of Anton Newcombe (The Brian Jonestown Massacre). Mr. Newcombe can be heard singing backing vocals on "Delete My Ideals."

BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE, THE Smoking Acid LP
2019 repress. 180-gram single LP version, on black vinyl, of The Brian Jonestown Massacre's Smoking Acid EP, originally released as a double 12" in 2009. Following the band's extensive tour of Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and a few select dates in New York (including at ATP supporting My Bloody Valentine et al.) in 2008, Anton Newcombe went to Berlin to focus on his next album. Four weeks before hitting the US tour in April 2009, Newcombe was bursting with ideas and went to Iceland where this five-track EP was recorded. Originally, Newcombe was heavily influenced by The Rolling Stones' psychedelic phase, but his work in the 2000s has expanded into aesthetic dimensions approximating the UK shoegaze genre of the 1990s and incorporating influences from world music, especially Middle Eastern and Brazilian music. This work mixes the traditional Brian Jonestown Massacre sound with Eastern influences and brings it up to date with the benefit of all the additional weirdness that's been discovered in the past 40 years.

BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE, THE Tepid Peppermint Wonderland Volume 1 2LP
2019 repress. Pressed on 180 gram black vinyl and housed in a gatefold sleeve. Remastered for a vinyl release. This 15-track compilation spans the years 1995-2004, featuring key tracks from all their albums as well as live recordings and many unreleased tracks. The Brian Jonestown Massacre is a psychedelic rock band originally from San Francisco, California, led by guitarist/singer Anton Newcombe. Since 1995 The Brian Jonestown Massacre has released numerous albums, first for Bomp! Records, the label which gave them their start, and later for TVT and Tee Pee. BJM has been essential in the development of the modern U.S. garage scene, and many L.A. and SF musicians got their start playing with Newcombe, including Peter Hayes of The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Originally Newcombe was heavily influenced by The Rolling Stones' psychedelic phase -- the name comes from Stones guitarist Brian Jones combined with a reference to cult leader Jim Jones, but his work in the 2000s has expanded into aesthetic dimensions approximating the UK shoegazing genre of the 1990s, and incorporates influences from world music, especially Middle Eastern and Brazilian music.

POTTER, COLIN The Abominable Slowman LP
The Abominable Slowman, is the logical follow-on from Colin Potter's previous 2015 LP, Rank Sonata (HG 1505LP). Like that album, there are elements that were recorded many years ago, but this work also contains new music. Again, the emphasis is on rhythm, although the rhythmic components range from conventional drum sounds to strange electronic and/or mutated outbursts, often accompanied by squalling guitars. As to what this sounds like, keywords would be: soundtrack, experimental, ambient, electronic psychedelia, contemporary, drone... There's constant experimentation throughout the album, a search for never-before heard sounds to create obscure atmospheres and a pleasantly disturbing feeling of disquietude. The LP is housed in a beautiful grey cardboard sleeve, hand-printed by letterpress, and die cut to reveal the printed inner sleeve, which features a number of pictures of The Abominable Slowman during the recording of the album at IC Studio's current London location.

DOVS Acid Test 014 12"
On their debut album as DOVS (AT 009LP), Tin Man and AAAA summon the ethereal spirit of acid. Tin Man, AKA Johannes Auvinen, has been studying the emotional potential of the Roland TB-303 for 15 years now, and AAAA (Gabo Barranco), a fixture of the Mexico City underground, might as well be his acolyte. While the coincidental similarities of their studio and live approaches make this collaboration feel natural, even expected, Silent Cities is anything but. Acid Test 14 features remixes from select tracks both Tin Man & AAAA individually as well as label mate John Tejada.

PLEASE Circus Days: A Collection of Demos and Studio Recordings 1967-69 LP
"A third collection of previously unreleased recordings by this late 1960's British psychedelic band fronted by Peter Dunton, who went on to form the legendary band T2. Dunton was a key figure in UK psychedelia, founding or playing a key role in many important bands. In brief, here's Dunton's pedigree: Neon Pearl (1967), Please (1967) and (1969), Flies (1968), Gun (1969), T2 (1969-1972), and Infinity (1969-70). This release follows on from two other superb albums of unreleased music by Please, 1968-1969 and Seeing Stars. The music on Circus Days can easily be filed next to that of contemporary bands like Blossom Toes, Forever Amber, Tomorrow, July, and an album which is now lauded as one of the best of the era, Odessey And Oracle by The Zombies. Circus Days contains such highlights as the original 1969 demo version of 'Morning,' later to appear on T2's fabulous It'll All Work Out in Boomland album. There are also some earlier demos including the classic 'Gently As You Feel' and 'To Dream', a track that features additional female vocals. Circus Days also includes other previously unissued gems that will fit very well next to your collection of Please, Neon Pearl and T2 records! Limited edition of 500 copies. Companion to two other superb albums of unreleased music by Please, 1968-1969 and Seeing Stars."

LB AKA LABAT Fake Memories LP
French producer LB aka Labat returns with a new LP named Fake Memories on his own label, Alélah Records. He surprises with some more hip-hop and R'n'B music, liberating his love for jazz rhythms and harmonics. Known for his talent at playing with samples, this new Fake Memories expresses his actual potential, offering a large use of instrumental stuff: violin and piano chords, guitar riffs, and more. Together with delicate voices that balance with the old school drums and procure gentleness to the sharp hats. The eponymous track even discloses the man's voice, with lyrics sang by himself. Vocalist Josephin Bovien from Copenhagen also appears on "5 Minutes Of Love", C. Rou, also from Copenhagen, appears on "Nothing New", and Bruno Patchworks on "Deep In Your..." The sweet nostalgia for the '80s and '90s sounds of this LP will leave you with sweet sticky green in the hands.

LADY LAMB Even in the Tremor CD
"Even in the Tremor marks Aly Spaltro aka Lady Lamb's latest full-length album following 2015's After and it's a remarkable achievement because, among other things, it's the first time in her career that Spaltro is singing explicitly about herself. 'I've never let myself be this exposed before,' she says, 'but this whole album is about facing who you are and fighting your way toward self-acceptance.' Between confessing a tantrum in a batting cage ('Little Flaws'), telling the story of her parent's kiddie-pool baptism ('Young Disciple') and singing openly about untangling her girlfriend's wet hair ('Deep Love'), this album is deeply rooted in the people and places, extraordinary and mundane, that have shaped Spaltro into the self-determining artist she is today. It took Spaltro almost a year to find the right co-producer. She initially attempted to make the record with an esteemed producer as she'd been advised but after being told that her arrangements needed rewriting by various veterans in the industry, Spaltro bravely changed direction and found a champion of her vision in Erin Tonkon, a less established producer whose six years working with Tony Visconti and later, David Bowie on his Grammy-winning Blackstar, made her more than qualified for the role. Benjamin Lazar Davis (Cuddle Magic, Kimbra, Okkervil River) played bass and piano and synthesizer. Jeremy Gustin (David Byrne, Albert Hammond Jr., Rubble Bucket) played drums. The group recorded at Figure 8 Studios in Brooklyn, New York. 'It's taken me years to get here,' she says, 'but I'm sort of done with hiding myself. I want to be as honest as I can because that's why people turn to art. Anybody can tell the difference between bullshit and real vulnerability.' This commitment to creating only what is necessary and urgently felt is the key to appreciating Spaltro's fearless songwriting, as emotional as it is philosophical. Even in the Tremor signifies the arrival of her most sonically soaring and brutally honest album to date."

Cuartero's "Floor Paca" opens the flip side with choppy bass stabs, soft chord hits, and a subtly nuanced rhythmic drive before Frazer Campbell's "Slow Motion" rounds out the package, employing classic deep house tropes with airy ethereal pads, vocal chops and shuffled, stripped-back drums at its core.

RUSHFORD, JAMES The Body's Night LP
Black Truffle announce the release of Australian composer-performer James Rushford's The Body's Night. Known to many through his collaborative works with Oren Ambarchi, crys cole, Kassel Jaeger, Klaus Lang, Joe Talia, and many others, this LP is Rushford's first solo release in a decade and the very first he has composed, performed, and recorded entirely alone. Primarily recorded in Los Angeles in 2017, The Body's Night is a single electro-acoustic suite stretching over thirty minutes, utilizing field recordings, flutes, ocarina, microphones, organ, percussion, piano, tape, analog synthesizers, viola, and voice. True to its title, the record immediately ushers into a nocturnal, intimate, claustrophobic space where the hyper-amplified rustle of clothing and vocal mumbles are shadowed by uneasy synth tones, fluttering white noise and distant filigrees of ultra-high-pitched tones at the edges of aural perception. While the influence of contemporary composers such as Klaus Lang and Jakob Ullmann (both of whose music Rushford has performed extensively) makes itself felt in the music's attention to the liminal space between sounds, Rushford also draws on the bedroom synth explorations of '80s acts like Déficit Des Années Antérieures (DDAA) and the harmonies and production values of black metal, drawing a common thread between these influences in terms of their shared interest in atmosphere and deliberate retreat from perspicuity. Relief from this claustrophobic atmosphere comes through the episodic structure of the piece, where like an already dark shot fading to black, each sequence retreats from your ears before you can properly grasp it. Rushford uses classical electro-acoustic techniques and plays elegantly on the fundamental ambiguity of the acousmatic situation in which you can never be sure of the source of the sound you are hearing. But rather than a tribute to the masterworks of musique concrete, this is defiantly idiosyncratic and personal music. Meticulous in production values and exploratory in timbre, tonality and form, The Body's Night is a key work from one of the most singular young composers at work today. Stunning artwork by O.B. De Alessi. Design by Lasse Marhaug. Mastered and cut at 45rpm for maximum fidelity by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin.

HOUSEWIVES Twilight Splendour LP
LP version. London five-piece Housewives return for more anarchic genre-blending adventures on their second LP, Twilight Splendour. The album is a synthesized collage written in Wetherspoons, cafes and anywhere away from their houseboats where they could find a permanent electrical supply. Exploring the possibilities of electronic sound, this new LP marks a turning point for the band - who sold their guitars to buy midi equipment and swapped London rents for water habitation. Bringing to mind the digital meditations of legendary producer Oneohtrix Point Never, Twilight Splendour presents a love letter from an early AI to its owner, its concept-led songs strewn with "ecstatic messages of frustration and a desire to connect". Since forming five years ago, Housewives have drawn from such diverse scenes as post-punk, jazz, drone, electronic and avant-garde. 2013 saw the release of an eponymous debut EP via Brighton label Faux Discx, while their first-full length record, Work - recorded at a barn in a desolate corner in the south of France - arrived in 2015. 2017 live album FF06116 (LAUNCH 116LP) marked the band's first collaboration with experimental saxophonist Ben Vince. Following on from these early statements, Housewives are now set to unleash their game-changing new album, turning away from performance-based writing, the human, and facing the cold light of computers head-on.

VA Plastic Dance 2: Domestic Synth Pop & Patchbay Punk Compiled by Andy Votel & Doug Shipton LP
"... Let's talk about the dangerous counterrevolutionaries who went out and bought a cheap synth and a rudimentary drum machine. The ones that got what 'punk' was really about. The democratization of art . . . Sniffing Glue said learn three chords and form a band, Throbbing Gristle said why learn any chords at all... I am an artist because I say I am. More Marcel Duchamp than Malcolm McLaren. So, sisters and brothers, who do you think led the counter-revolution? Well I'll tell you. It was the man who stormed the Bastille and kicked the door down in the first place and he did it on the July 16th, 1977. With the help of Tommy Vance. John Lydon's playlist that night on Vance's show included Tim Buckley, The Creation, Augustus Pablo, Bobby Byrd, Neil Young, Lou Reed, Peter Hammill, and Can and put paid to any punk rock 'year zero' claims. Meanwhile, locked out of the studio, Malcolm had to listen to the counterrevolutionary manifesto being broadcast across the metropolis. Mark that date in your diaries, sisters and brothers: 16th July, the anniversary of the birth of 'post punk'. Just over a year later in October, Lydon rammed the point home with the release of Public Image, a personal and musical manifesto in 7" form. The music on Plastic Dance 2 is the strangely colored, distorted, and frighteningly beautiful fruit of the seeds planted on that fateful day. Lessons learned and inspiration taken from the sonic aesthetics of dub, knowing that not all disco sucked and that even jazz was allowed. Music shaped by wonky approximation and appropriation. The artists on Plastic Dance 2 were artists because they said they were. Listen to their work and you'll know they were. Listen in transcendent wonderment as George Attwell creates alchemical space funk in his home studio... as a future Mock Turtle and members of The Manchester Music Collective channel Robert Calvert and Bill Nelson... as Korzynski comes on like a Jeff Mills remix of Terry Riley. Listen in the wide-eyed joy of being as Stabat Stable's drum machine runs amok to the accompaniment of discordant organ stabs... as a future founder of 808 State channels Albert Ayler alongside a galloping synth arpeggio." --Andrew WeatherallThe second volume in the Plastic Dance series compiled by Andy Votel and Doug Shipton. Featuring exclusive liner notes by Andrew Weatherall. Features George Atwell, Vibrant Thigh, Stabat Stable, Cos, Beach Surgeons, Cosmic Overdose, Andrzej Korzynski, Ti-Tho, Gerry And The Holograms, and pragVEC.

GOOD MISSIONARIES, THE Pylons LP
"'The hipness and success of London punk-explosion photocopy fanzine Sniffin' Glue was almost entirely due to the irreverent, pugnacious sincerity of its founder/spark-plug Mark Perry. That Perry should form a band (Alternative TV) seemed a natural progression; that it was any good at all a surprise; that it maintained a stance utterly disdainful of compromise a small miracle.' The Good Missionaries emerged, phoenix-like, from the ashes of Alternative TV (ATV). They released one live album Fire From Heaven, before ATV founder Mark Perry left. Ex-ATV guitarist/vocalist Dave George and bassist Keith Rodway continued the band, with several line-up changes during those days. The Good Missionaries toured and gigged with such bands as The Fall, The Pop Group, Crass, Scritti Politti, Delta Five, Poison Girls, Nik Turner's Inner City Unit and The Transmitters. Which in retrospect makes sense, as their post-punk/dub/experimental inclinations dovetails perfectly with the music those more storied bands (more successful bands) were making at the time. The Good Missionaries released several singles on their own Unnormality label, before splitting in 1982. The majority of the tracks on Pylons were recorded at Street Level Studios by Grant Showbiz, late 1979 to early 1981. They feature the second and third incarnations of the Good Missionaries, with Mark Perry playing drums on four of the tracks, alongside an appearance by ex-ATV bassist Dennis Burns. Pylons should have been released in 1981 -- it would no doubt have featured on many lists of post-punk classic albums had that been the case. Now, nearly 40 years later, it is seeing the light of day for the first time. Influenced by the likes of PIL, The Pop Group, James Chance & The Contortions as well as The Gang of Four, it bridges the gap between the end of punk and the start of an experimental new wave era. Limited edition of 500 copies that comes with poster insert with archive band photos and sleeve notes by the Good Missionaries' Keith Rodway. First ever release of this long-lost UK post-punk classic."

CROENE, FREDERIK Cul de Sac LP
After Mars II (2018) and Fortune de Mer (2018), the album Frederik Croene made together with Timo van Luijk, Croene releases Cul de Sac: a record where he explores the boundaries and limits of the piano. A mind-blowing journey through his soul and his past. After graduating from Conservatories in 1999, Frederik Croene embarked on several projects in which he would reflect on the ever-changing and multi-layered identities of the classical pianist. As the Gestalt of his instrument is grounded in 19th-century Romanticism, he still uses virtuosity to communicate about what it is to be a pianist. He has performed and recorded the classical repertoire and worked intensively with composers such as Michael Beil, Johannes Kreidler, Simon Steen-Andersen, Michael Finnissey, Alexander Schubert, and Stefan Prins. In 2010, he reached a turning point in his career as a composer-performer with the formulation of the concept of Le Piano Démécanisé ("The De-mechanized Piano") in an article and LP release (AUDIOMER 007LP). Croene composes almost exclusively for piano or dismantled piano, using extra-musical tools such as video, text, and choreography (Roll over Czerny, Piano Hero Parasite, On Education, Eagle Finger). To realize these often complex setups he founded Pianoguide, a piano duo/think tank with pianist Elisa Medinilla (Nadar Ensemble). He established an enduring collaboration with underground musician Timo van Luijk, which has given rise to many live performances and two LP releases: Voile au Vent (2009) and Fortune de Mer. He has been invited to perform recitals at Holland Festival, Transit Festival Leuven, Time of Music Festival in Finland, Huddersfield Contemporary Festival, and Festival van Vlaanderen. In addition to his career as a performer, Croene also curates a piano series at PostX, a small venue in his hometown of Merelbeke. He teaches piano and founded the Vinim atelier, where he coaches youngsters in experimental composition and improvisation.

BACALOV, LUIS Si Puo Fare... Amigo LP
LP version. At the time of the film's release only a 45rpm single of this original soundtrack was issued which contained the song "Can Be Done", with lyrics by Sergio Bardotti and sung by Rocky Roberts (in 1966, Luis Bacalov had already collaborated with Roberts, performer of the main theme from the highly successful 2012 western movie Django). Only in 1995, Point Records released a CD which contained the instrumental score coupled with the OST from Il Grande Duello. For this issue, Digitmovies' new digitally restored and remastered record, the label had access to the mono master tapes of the recording session which gave them the chance to discover some unreleased takes which we have assembled in a nearly eight-minute suite. In addition, a special bonus track features the very rare stereo-mixed version of the original 45rpm single song. Luis Bacalov succeeds in representing in his music the whole sentimental side of the plot (the friendship between the corpulent, but good-hearted Thompson and the child Chip) by writing a sweet and cheerful main theme that is introduced in the opening credits in a pop key and with a little Bacharach flavor called "Can Be Done", sung by Rocky Roberts and accompanied by a children's choir. This theme is reprised with orchestral variations sometimes dramatically, sometimes in an epic western context with the use of the harmonica of the great Franco De Gemini and alternated with saloon as well as instrumental and choir folk music.

T.S.O.L. Dance With Me LP
"The first in a series of classic vinyl re-issues featuring original artwork painstakingly restored and hot-stamped with gold foiling, Dance With Me was the first album by Long Beach punk band T.S.O.L. (True Sounds of Liberty). Originally released on Frontier Records in 1981, the album hasn't been available since 2007 when it was re-issued by The Offspring's Nitro Records. Other uber-fans include Guns N' Roses (Steven Adler was wearing a T.S.O.L. t-shirt in the 'Sweet Child O' Mine' video). Dance With Me saw the band move away from the hardcore punk roots of their debut EP released earlier in the year and the music became more melodic and goth-tinged, as did the lyrics. The album was recorded by Thom Wilson (Dead Kennedys, Bad Religion, The Offspring) and the cover featured paintings by Mark Wassman and photos by Glen E. Friedman."

MAKEBA, MIRIAM The World Of Miriam Makeba LP
Down At Dawn present a reissue of The World Of Miriam Makeba, originally released in 1963. The brilliant South African singer Miriam Makeba first found international recognition after being "discovered" in America by the wonderful Harry Belafonte who inspired her move to NYC and championed her talent to anyone who would listen. A subsequent recording contract began her half-century long career of international stardom. Combining Afro-pop with jazz and western pop music influences, Makeba created a sound that was uniquely her own and inspired generations of singers to come. A life-long, anti-apartheid activist and humanitarian, Makeba is recognized around the globe as being one of the most important singers of the middle-20th-century. With conducting assistance from the legendary South African trumpeter, Hugh Masekela, this is Makeba's third album, originally released in 1963, and a stunning example of her modern Afro-pop sound.

MINGUS, CHARLES Town Hall Concert 1962 LP
Charles Mingus brought together an amazing lineup spanning the totality of the nation's jazz scene with such luminaries as Eric Dolphy, Buddy Collette, Clark Terry, Zoot Sims, Pepper Adams, Jaki Byard, Grady Tate, and more. Brought together to perform new Mingus compositions for the first time in public, the recording was initially considered weak due to limited rehearsal time but the years have been kind to this recording and it's a fantastic set of Mingus compositions, including the powerful "Freedom" which rivals the works on Mingus Ah-Um (1959) for its strength of purpose and message, in a similar vein to Max Roach's legendary We Insist! album (1960). Mingus is one of the most important figures in 20th century music and this live recording documents his compositional and arranging prowess as well as sheer swinging joy.

Featuring the beautiful voice of Adelaide Hall, this collection includes some of his most highly regarded compositions and titles such as "The Blues I Love To Sing", "Jubilee Stomp", "Washington Wabble", and "Creole Love Call". In a career that spanned decades and countless accolades, these might be the finest recordings Ellington ever made.

PERRY & SUBATOMIC SOUND SYSTEM, LEE "SCRATCH" Super Ape Returns To Conquer LP+CD
2019 repress. 41 years later, Lee "Scratch" Perry uses today's sound system to revisit his classic Black Ark album that defined Jamaican dub music, reincarnating the magic for the sound system generation. Big question about it: "How do you improve on a masterpiece?" Lee "Scratch" Perry defined dub music with his seminal 1976 Super Ape album, and he returns with New York City's Subatomic Sound System to conquer again, definitively reincarnating the magic of his Black Ark studio in Jamaica, heavy on Ethiopian horns and percussion, while reinvigorating it with the 21st century booming bass and beats that capture the energy of their innovative live electronic show. Largely known as the mentor to Bob Marley, Perry's influence has transcended reggae. Since 2010, he has toured with NYC's Subatomic Sound System, his go-to band for recreating his Black Ark studio sound live on stage, in new exciting ways as a one-of-a-kind hybrid of beat heavy electronics and live musicians, including original Black Ark studio percussionist Larry McDonald. Subatomic Sound System has been pushing the envelope of electronic music in combination with reggae since their inception in 1999. In dub, Lee "Scratch" Perry is a star at organizing and remixing the music with drum and bass in the forefront and tweaking knobs and faders, adding effects like a jazz improvisation. In the 1970s, the idea of a producer as a star, rather than a singer or musician, seemed crazy, but looking across the world of star DJ producers, he is rightly acknowledged as a visionary as well. There are many stories to be told, but this album follows on the mission of the tour which has the goal of reaching out to old fans and new fans. As sound system culture continues to expand globally with reggae and beyond, these are DJ-friendly heavyweight versions of Scratch material that makes sense in the 21st century. "Scratch" started his music career as a dancer so he loves to get a party started even at 81. The album shows that Scratch was 40 years ahead of his time with Super Ape, and that at 81, he's more relevant to youth culture than ever. The original "Burning Man", "Scratch" was called "the Salvador Dali of music" by Keith Richards and Bounty Killer hailed him as "the greatest Jamaican artist of all time". Features: Jahdan Blakkamoore, Screechy Dan, and Ari Up of The Slits. Includes CD.

BARBIERI, CATERINA Ecstatic Computation LP
Caterina Barbieri is an Italian composer who explores themes related to machine intelligence and object-oriented perception in sound through a focus on minimalism. Following 2017's acclaimed double-LP Patterns Of Consciousness (IMPREC 449LP), Ecstatic Computation is the new full-length LP by Caterina Barbieri. The album revolves around the creative use of complex sequencing techniques and pattern-based operations to explore the artefacts of human perception and memory processes by ultimately inducing a sense of ecstasy and contemplation. Computation is turned from being a formal, automatic writing technique into a creative, psychedelic practice to generate temporal hallucinations. A state of trance and wonder where the perception of time is distorted and challenged. Equally nervous and ecstatic, the fast permutation of patterns can create a state where time stands still whilst simultaneously being in motion. Is this propulsive music moving forward or backward? As long as the perception of the present is constantly enhanced and refreshed in an endless sense of loss, re-discovery and the search for self-orientation this question lies mute aside the thrilling and perplexing moment of the matter at hand. Vocals on "Arrows Of Time" performed by Annie Gårlid and Evelyn Saylor; recorded by Stefano Tucci at Failsafe Studio. Artwork by Ruben Spini. Mastered by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering.

SATIN JACKETS Solar Nights 2LP
Double LP version; includes download. Solar Nights is the long-awaited second album from German nu-disco star Tim Bernhardt, aka Satin Jackets. Released on Eskimo Recordings Solar Nights follows on from Bernhardt's critically acclaimed, and Gold certified, debut Panorama Pacifico (ESK 507583/ ESK 507585, 2016) and features 14 tracks of smooth disco and leftfield pop sounds with guest appearances from the likes of Future Classic's Panama, David Harks, Niya Wells, Emma Brammer, and Anduze. The global success of Panorama Pacifico has seen Bernhardt coaxed out from his remote studio in one of Germany's ancient forests to play to fans across the world, from South Korea to Mexico and beyond, experiences that inspired both the album itself and its title, Solar Nights. In recent years the world's become smaller, a more inter-connected place. It can be dark and cold here, with snow all around, and the next day I can be playing to people on a beach. Somewhere on the planet it's always daytime or summer, but beyond that day and night just blend into each other these days," Tim explains. "We have daytime discos so you can go and party while the sun is still high in the sky, and you can go and hit the gym at night. Be it day or night, Satin Jackets is your soundtrack." And what a soundtrack it is, from the first chords of opening 'Welcome Back' it's clear we're in safe hands here, the warm pads, delicate guitars and pianos providing the perfect introduction to the album. Solar Nights takes everything we loved from Panorama Pacifico and polishes it to an ultra-high sheen. And in an age when rough and raw production is seen as an easy shorthand for authenticity, Tim's love of über-smooth production has made him an unlikely iconoclast, producing music that reflects the glamour and glitz of '70s Manhattan, artfully updated for the 21st century.

Whilst cut from the same cloth as the previous tracks "Ribbles" has sparkling, playful melodies that dance before a pulsing disco beat. "Kluts" is driven by a stuttering, head-nodding, rhythm that recalls that rapping sound of a woodpecker in the forest, the track is gently swaddled in a warm embrace of synthetic stings.

ASTRID A Porthole LP
French modern-classical quartet Astrïd return with the first part of a new release entitled A Porthole. Conceptually, the two records will work in unison, focusing on portholes into the abyss, with part one delving into the depths of the deep sea. The tracks are named after various strains of seaweed, the artwork depicting dark waves and uncertainty. Part two will follow in a year's time and will turn its attention to the night sky and constellations. A Porthole continues Astrïd's signature style of billowing guitars, strings and woodwinds. Each element is intertwined with another, linked perfectly together through restrained jazz-tinged percussion. 2017's acclaimed Through The Sparkle (GZH 073CD/LP) with renowned pianist Rachel Grimes (of Rachels) set the bar high for this release but Astrïd have matched the depth, melody and quality of that record here. Part one of this journey features some sublime compositions with Cyril Secq's expressive and bold guitar playing carrying the pieces into chamber music territory, joined seamlessly by a variety of other instruments that swell and soar and fit perfectly into the story being told. Everything seems to have its place; nothing is overplayed or out of step here, and there is an organic nature to the way this quartet plays and interacts with one another as melodies circle back and fade away in the same beautiful breath. A Porthole is a deeply charming record, exercising glorious, nuanced refrains and offering a sort of hope rarely found in music these days. Mastered by Harris Newman (Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Tindersticks), art by Gizeh overlord Richard Knox. Edition of 300 on aqua blue vinyl, includes download.

RACE FATALISTS, HUGO Taken By The Dream LP
LP version. 180 gram vinyl; Includes download code. Following Hugo Race's recent excursions into world electronica -- Dirtmusic's Bu Bir Ruya (GB 055CD/LP, 2018) and Gemini 4 -- meets 21st century blues -- John Lee Hooker's World Today (2017) -- the former Bad Seed is back with a new album of modern folk songs. Hugo Race Fatalists' Taken By The Dream is a cinematic tapestry of complex emotional states illuminated by mercurial moments of dazzling light and grace. Recorded in Sicily in collaboration with Diego Sapignoli and Francesco Giampaoli from one of Italy's most popular and influential instrumental bands, Sacri Cuori, studio guests include Chris Brokaw (Lemonheads, Come, Codeine), Bryan Colechin (The True Spirit), violinist Vicki Brown (Calexico), New Zealand pop songstress Lisa Crawley, Giovanni Ferrario (Scisma, Micevice), and cameo appearances from Race's long-time musical partner Michelangelo Russo. Following Hugo's 2010 solo album, Fatalists, a unique mix of alt-country and electronica recorded in Italy with Sacri Cuori, the band took on the name of Fatalists and toured extensively in Italy, consolidating their unique sound on 2012's We Never Had Control. A five-track EP Orphans followed in 2014, along with tours in greater Europe and Australia. In 2016 Hugo Race Fatalists' released 24 Hours to Nowhere to international critical acclaim: "24 Hours from Nowhereis darker than the darkest Walkabouts song, it's a scorched earth vision... The songs sound magnificent, the instruments like blocks of grey tones, beautifully picked out, with plenty of room between them... Overall this is a dark Gothic piece that skillfully calls on Lee Hazelwood and Ennio Morricone to create a suite of songs that is beautifully constructed and breathlessly cinematic." --David Cowling, Americana UK "In Australia, Hugo Race is present not only with his music which speaks for itself, but also with a book he has recently published, Road Series, an autobiographical road novel. In it, he processes his travel experiences of the past 30 years -- a mixture of Bruce Chatwin and Jack Kerouac. But despite the unexpected literary success, Hugo Race continues to make music. He needs songwriting as the air we breathe, he says." --Carsten Beyer, Deutschlandradio Kultur

GUIDED BY VOICES Warp And Woof CD
"Following Guided By Voice's sprawling double-album Zeppelin Over China, Robert Pollard has written and recorded another full-length in record-breaking time. It's Warp And Woof, exuberantly barreling through twenty-four songs in just thirty-seven minutes with a brevity similar to mid-90s GBV albums Alien Lanes and Vampire On Titus. GBV kicked this one out in a flash, recorded in studios, club soundchecks, hotel rooms and even in the tour van. After completing Zeppelin, Pollard felt the itch to record a few EPs. Just as GBV had done back in 1994, he would use them to channel his ever-flowing ideas to an outlet. But when a magical boombox writing session produced six fully formed songs in under half an hour, Pollard realized he had an album on his hands. What to do? With a band so formidable they've been dubbed the Golden Age of GBV, they completed much of the recording on the road. The 2018 Space Gun Tour provided impromptu recording venues. Pollard recorded vocals in hotel rooms, complimentary condominiums, and small studios. Doug Gillard cut guitar tracks for 'End It With Light' through his Mesa Boogie rig at the soundcheck at the Ottobar in Baltimore. Bobby Bare Jr. recorded his spacey main rhythm guitars for album closer, 'Time Remains in Central Position' at the same show, but in the backstage green room. Kevin March added drum tracks in a studio in his hometown Montclair, New Jersey. Gillard played guitar on 'Bury the Mouse' in a van hurtling at 60-plus m.p.h., and Mark Shue laid bass on 'Angelic Weirdness' as he balanced on the speeding van's bench seat..."

The perfect soundtrack of a very first "french kiss", of an early morning sunset by the Seine Songs to relax to or to fall in love with, songs to dance to or to dream with the soundtrack of an extraordinary life -- your life, maybe NEO is the next chapter for the critically-acclaimed compilation series Too Slow To Disco. For DJ Supermarkt it was time to explore the exciting new, modern smooth sounds of the present. With TSTD NEO - En France, How Do You Are? Recordings go to the exciting European capital of all things mellow, elegant, slightly erotic, and pop. The compilation contains 17 tracks -- some of them never released and exclusive for this compilation -- featuring two godfathers and grand seigneurs: the legendary Bertrand Burgalat, head honcho of the Tricatel label, musician, composer, arranger, producer, and the electro-disco wizard Yuksek who also runs the infamous Partyfine label. The others are the kids of Michel Legrand, Les Jeunes Gens Modernes, and the French Touch, they sometimes try to marry "Debussy to a disco beat", they've all got this blue melancholy which you only find in the French streets, they sing in in their mother tongue or in their so very charming English accent without any complexes. They're boys and girls. Duos (Bleu Toucan, Poom, or Weekend Affair...), bands (L'Impératrice, Cléa Vincent, and her friends), collectives (the elusive Catastrophe) or solo artists (Jean Tonique, Lomboy, Magnüm, Saint DX...) mix candid melodies and Gainsbourgienne basslines, electro arrangements, and sensual grooves. There are funky guitars licks and -- as usual with TSTD -- way too many saxophones (it sounds like Duran Duran's "Rio"), slap basses, and some vocoders, even features a great ironic use of the modern autotune. It's the perfect soundtrack of a very first "french kiss", of an early morning sunset by the Seine -- or by the sea (you choose) --, of a late bar evening session, sipping red wine or a dry martini cocktail -- once again, you choose. They're songs to relax to or to fall in love with, songs to dance to or to dream with. They're the soundtrack of an extraordinary life. Your life, maybe. Also features Ricky Hollywood, Claap! & Santana, Polo & Pan, DJ Supermarkt, Jack Tennis, and Paradis. Contains three exclusive, unreleased tracks.

P-ORRIDGE & CARL ABRAHAMSSON, GENESIS BREYER Loyalty Does Not End With Death LP
The first vinyl release between Carl Abrahamsson and Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, Loyalty Does Not End With Death is the final part of a spoken word trilogy initiated in 1990 with the Psychick TV & White Stains side At Stockholm, and proceeded by their Wordship album (2004) as Thee Majesty & Cotton Ferox electing to use their own names for this final part of a 30 year wide series, the duo intend Loyalty Does Not End With Death to be received without the connotations of their other projects. It's the sound of two cosmically-traveled minds crossing paths after a long time to chew over the bare essentials -- love and magick -- via vibrant poetry and beautifully charged forms of ambient music. In nine parts they conjure a warmly meditative music, where Abrahamsson's characteristic, playful tones, cut-up electronics, and gentle rhythms comfortably lay the bed for Genesis, who inhabits and enlivens the pristine scenes like an observant dark interpreter, translating the incomprehensible and revealing the divine through their psychedelic prism. The spellbinding results were recorded in New York and Stockholm 2017/18 and could feasibly have occurred at any point between 1990 and now. They are blessed with a pacing, intuition and timelessness that pays testament to an enduring creative friendship, taking the form of writing, interviews, photographs and films (Change Itself (2016)) for nearly 35 years.

"Denis Frajerman started as composer in the French experimental band Palo Alto. With a strong interest in literature and orality as a musician, he collaborates regularly with storytellers and writers for radio sessions, oratorios, or records. Strongly linked to the work of Antoine Volodine, his first solo album, Les Suites Volodine was directly influenced by his writings. They both share a taste for haunting atmospheres, black humor, witchcraft. Volodine and Frajerman also worked on creations, Des Anges Mineurs, post-exotic oratorio composed for six musicians, singer, narrator, dancer and videographer and Vociférations, cantopera for eleven musicians, ordered by the Radiophonic Creation Workshops of France Culture. Frajerman is also composer of soundtracks for contemporary dance, object theater, animation, short films, documentaries and has developed in recent years as a guitarist an approach to this instrument influenced by folk music from Greece and rural blues of the southern United States. On Wastelands/Lawrence Of Arabia he is accompanied on drums, cello, violin, keyboards, clarinet, saxophone and percussion. This beautiful album will appeal to anyone with an interest in the French avantgarde: Ptose, DDAA, Palo Alto, UDMI or Catalogue to name just a few. Included are two cover versions, one of a Minimal Compact song and one by Amon Düül II."

DARKENING SCALE Stuck Bad CD
"David Janssen aka Ted The Loaf (of Renaldo & The Loaf) started The Darkening Scale in 2006 when RATL took a longer break. It is a purely digital affair and its releases originally came out as downloads only. Over the past couple of years, Klanggalerie has released two DS albums: The Entomology of Sound and Sonic Archeology. We are now happy to present you Stuck Bad, The Darkening Scale's cover version of The Residents' Duck Stab album. David Janssen has processed the original album digitally, he has rearranged and reconstructed it, and the result is a highly original take on this classic Residents fan favourite. REININGER, BLAINE L. Madchen In Koffer (And Other Results) CD
"Blaine L. Reininger needs no special introduction. He is an American post-punk, new-wave and alternative pop singer, songwriter, musician, multi-instrumentalist (particularly violin), writer and performer. He is known for being a member of the group Tuxedomoon since 1977 after co-founding it with Steven Brown and, latterly, for a notable music and theatre career, both as a soloist and contributor to other artists' recordings, including The Durutti Column, Snakefinger, Anna Domino, Savage Republic or Paul Haig. After learning the violin and guitar during childhood and studying music theory in San Francisco, Reininger formed the band Tuxedomoon with composer, singer, musician and college-mate Steven Brown and appeared on early albums such as Half Mute, Desire and Suite En Sous-Sol before departing early in 1983 to pursue a solo career. He permanently rejoined Tuxedomoon in 1988 and has subsequently appeared on more recent recordings such as Vapour Trails, issued in 2007 by independent label Crammed Discs. In 2015 Reininger's friend Albrecht Hirche shot his first feature film, a raod movie entitled Mädchen in Koffer. Blaine contributed the soundtrack which is surprisingly song based and put it on his Bandcamp page in 2018. Klanggalerie are now very happy to present you the first CD version of this music. In addition to the score, we have chosen another 9 tracks from Blaine's vast archive to make this a full-length album."

CARPE DIEM En Regardent Passer Le Temps LP
"Formed in 1970, Carpe Diem started out playing covers by the likes of East of Eden, King Crimson, Deep Purple, and Uriah Heep in clubs along the French Riviera. Original compositions made their way into the band's repertoire over the five years between their formation and the release of their debut album, En Regardent Passer Le Temps, in 1976. Little wonder then that the band sounds as magnificently tight, polished and mature on this classic debut, truly one of the gems of the French rock scene. The success of the album brought them dates with other major French bands like Magma and Ange, led to the recording of a second album, and then ultimately to the sort of nearly total obscurity which deserves to be undone with a reissue such as this one! 'Carpe Diem weave spacey, melodic soundscapes of impossible subtlety and beauty, combining woodwinds and all manner of synthesizers with surging, inspired guitar solos. The playing is free and loose, while yet retaining an air of careful composition. Guitar parts and multiple keyboard lines lock into precise, tightly meshed melodic webs, building tension before bursting into emotive, furious climaxes. Soaring, cosmic guitar melodies glide along churning synthesizer rhythms in the aptly titled opener 'Voyage du non-retour' (Voyage of No Return). The three lengthy tracks that almost evenly divide the album's remainder are uniformly excellent, with nary a superfluous or unnecessary moment. It says something when, in listening to an album, each track convinces you independently that it, indeed, is the best cut on the record. 'Reincarnation' features understated, yet gorgeous, vocal passages in between fiery instrumental portions. The flute and mellotron introduction of 'Jeux du siecle' perfectly sets up the driving grooves to come. In closer 'Publiphobie,' fluid bass-lines and ultra-tight rhythmic work provide the foundation for heavily syncopated, enchanting saxophone melodies. Subtle, smoky vocals return to the fore later in the track, before the band jumps into the closing instrumental finale.' --Greg Northrup, Progweed. First time vinyl reissue of 1976 underground French rock rarity."

SIDEWINDERS Cuacha! LP
"Take a look at a quick list of 'Best Albums' from 1987 and you quickly get a sense of the musical mood of the year: the Joshua Tree by U2; Appetite For Destruction by Guns N' Roses; Sign 'O' The Times by Prince; You're Living All Over Me by Dinosaur Jr.; Document by R.E.M.; Sister by Sonic Youth; Darklands by The Jesus And Mary Chain; Diesel And Dust by Midnight Oil; Come On Pilgrim by Pixies; and Pleased To Meet Me by The Replacements. It's not a stretch at all to plunk the Sidewinders Cuacha! right amongst those records -- both in terms of quality and 'sound'. The Sidewinders formed in the spring of 1985. The group released Cuacha! in 1987 (and again in 1988), and subsequently signed to RCA/Mammoth Records, with whom they released two full-length albums, 1989's Witchdoctor and 1990's Auntie Ramos' Pool Hall. Witchdoctor cracked the lower echelons of the Billboard 200 on the strength of two rock radio hits. The band scored exposure on MTV and VH1 and embarked on a worldwide tour. But the Sidewinders were soon sidelined due to legal problems stemming from a challenge over the band's name. As the Sand Rubies, they released an album on Polydor/Atlas in 1993 (at one point, Pearl Jam served as their opening act). However, the strain of the legal tussle led the Sand Rubies to dissolve during a tour in 1993 -- just as two other Arizona rock bands, Gin Blossoms and The Refreshments, attracted mainstream attention. First-time reissue of this 1987 sleeper rural rock classic."

AGITATION FREE Malesch CD
"When the band Agitation Free came together in 1967 as a result of the merging of two Berlin rock groups, one of the most interesting groups in a dawning independent German music scene was created. With their improvisations between rock, jazz and new music, Agitation Free -- soon relegated to the not so flattering category of 'Krautrock' -- made musical forays into areas that few of their fellow German musicians had ever penetrated. At a time when most in Germany were still orienting themselves as closely as possible to Anglo-American musical formats, Agitation Free found a completely new and very original form of musical expression. Starting with their debut album Malesch, Agitation Free delivered a fascinating sound, influenced not least by the manifold impressions from a Near East tour. The band moved toward a form of meta-music, a weaving of exotic-sounding compositions. The album has been justly regarded as a milestone in the genre, especially abroad. Looking back, it's evident that the Agitation Free was one of the most important bands of the experimental circle known as the 'Berlin School', and a career springboard for a whole slew of musicians. At the same time, this policy of changing personnel also meant risking that the band couldn't keep itself together over the long run. Agitation Free consciously took this risk in order to remain as close as possible to their own concept -- free from commercial pressure or concessions to the latest trends and modes."

CLUB PARADISO Esotica Erotica Psicotica LP
The Italian Duo Club Paradiso come from diverse and ever-evolving music backgrounds, they started their collaborative project in 2016. Romagna, Adriatic Riviera, is what they call home and also the primal inspiration behind Club Paradiso. Their first album Esotica Erotica Psicotica on Mondo Groove, follows their acclaimed 2017 single Panoramica (MGCP 001EP), and is a wonderful patchwork of colors. Opener "Romagna Tropicale" transports Riviera to a tropical island, "Tuco" mixes arpeggiating lines with a western harmonica and a distant spoken, "Solo Tu" with the voice of Francesca Amati is a sensual, slo-mo synth-pop beauty, and "Echoes" a throbbing deep house number. The B side opens with "Flauto Cosmico", a killer Afro/cosmic track with a folky flute, "Okinawa" has the voice of Niconote, aka the legendary Nicoletta Magalotti of Violet Eves fame, and it's simply a memorable song with an eastern vibe in the music, "La Rabbia Saudita", with a special Daniele Baldelli and Marco Dionigi featuring, is half part Arabic and half part funky, and the closing track, "Mirage", is, yes, like a mirage. "The Guitar Player was Davy Graham's first full length LP, after releasing his EP -- A.D. two years earlier. This unique album combines his interesting and virtuoso guitar play with some excellent arrangements. With his guitar style he contributed to the musical changes in the early 1960s, where blues, rock and folk started to play a more prominent role in the music scene. The man crosses into blues, jazz, folk, Arabic music and more, often in the same song. It's an essential album and one of the greatest instrumental acoustic guitar records released in the 1960's. British guitar virtuoso Davy Graham inspired a multitude of artists such as Paul Simon, Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix. Combining different music genres, Graham proved to be one of the 20th century's most versatile guitarists and songwriters."

ART OF NOISE In No Sense? Nonsense! 2LP
"The third album, In No Sense? Nonsense!, by the English avant-garde synthpop band Art Of Noise is an experimental record. The instrumental power is besides the traditional band sounds (electric guitars, drums, and synthesizers) made up by orchestral and choral music. Art Of Noise created a piece where everything fits together in the sound as a whole. The perfect production is an advance to these wonderful and versatile songs. Some of the songs were included in Hollywood movies like Dragnet (which won Art of Noise a second Grammy nomination), Spies Like Us (with Paul McCartney), and Earth Girls are Easy. Art Of Noise were an English group founded by members Gary Langan (engineer/producer) and J. J. Jeczalik (programmer), Anne Dudley (arranger), Trevor Horn (producer) and music journalist Paul Morley. The band is noted for their use of electronics and computers in pop music and particularly for innovative use of sampling." 180 gram vinyl; Gatefold sleeve; Printed inner sleeves.

RILEY, TERRY A Rainbow In Curved Air LP
"Keyboard virtuoso Terry Riley started experimenting with different instruments in the '50s. One of his electronic music landmarks is his third album A Rainbow In Curved Air. Through the use of overdubbing, he recorded all the instruments to feature on the title track. The composition consists of three movements, each representing another part of his musical influences. As the song progresses, its structure goes through frequent changes. It's a colorful, psychedelic, atmospheric and revolutionary song. The second track consists of a loop of saxophones and is the dreamy and calm opposite of the title track. Fans of electronic music, such as Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze, would love this record. Taking inspiration from Hindustani classical music and jazz techniques, Riley's masterpiece influenced many musicians, from the likes of Brian Eno to Emeralds. A Rainbow In Curved Air 50th anniversary limited edition is available as 500 individually numbered copies on transparent vinyl."

Writing from a distance, it's clear that this is the first classic album in her canon and arguably a classic of the 21st Century underground music panorama. While the methodology on it hadn't changed from Nilsson's previous three albums -- it was recorded solo at The Lighthouse, Nilsson's home studio based on a Berlin crossroads -- on this record the songwriting reached a new peak and the emotional scythe cut deeper. Released previously on a number of small DIY labels, Orleans' music coincided with the explosion of auto-didactic musicians finding their voice in the age of the blogosphere, artists emboldened by the democratization of music-making afforded by the internet. From the outset, her childhood studying formal music mixed with cut-up techniques, sampling, sound-art and experimentation to create a distinctive signature cloaked in an innate melancholy and playfulness. "Next in UT's reissue and remastered back catalog series, their first studio album Conviction, originally released in 1986. This 2019 remastered reissue will include song lyrics, photos of the band and an introduction by Stewart Lee. Radical rock group Ut was founded by Nina Canal, Jacqui Ham and Sally Young in 1978. Originating in the downtown NYC No Wave scene and inheritors of the collision between rock, free jazz and the avant-garde, the band exploded the rigidity of conventional rock, constructing songs through collective improvisation, swapping instruments and rotating the role of singer/director. Migrating to London in 1981, UT played with bands like The Fall and The Birthday Party and released music on its own label Out Records, including Live At The Venue in 1982, the UT EP in 1984, the Confidential 12-inch in 1985 and the LP Conviction in 1986. UT became a favorite of BBC's John Peel and recorded sessions for his show in '84, '85 and '87. Joining forces with Blast First in 1987, they released the live compilation album Early Live Life and then the highly critically acclaimed In Gut's House in 1988, which made the year's NME Top 50 Albums."

LA BATTERIA II 2LP
Double LP version. Gatefold sleeve. Four years since their first self-titled release (PNY 3304CD/LP, 2015), La Batteria, one of the most brilliant Italian bands in the field of instrumental music, are back with their brand new second album. Seventy minutes of music spanning 18 tracks released on Penny Records. Against the rules of today's market and more in the '70s classic rock tradition, here is a consistent double-album carrying both the band's typical cinematic atmospheres and the four members individual experiences and personal taste. It's a sort of musical journey where different ages and genres melt together within the Roman band's unique style. Through the various tracks you can easily find the complex writing of Fonderia (the other band of members Bultrini, Vicarelli, and Pecorelli) and the peculiar rhythmic groove of Nerattini's hip-hop productions, and the endless cross-contamination coming from their common project of the Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio. Prog-rock, funk, hip-hop, classical music, electronics, Latin grooves, Italo-disco, psychedelia, and hard rock, all perfectly melt together in a fascinating new work which places the band in the great Italian tradition of music for images, luckily far from being a mere copy of an unrepeatable age. "The ever-evolving quartet Vaura follows up their 2013 album The Missing almost six years later with Sables, their most refined and contemplative release yet. Introspective and somber, this album finds the band shedding most of its post-metal heaviness in favor of experiments with brooding kosmische musik and the more avant-garde elements of new wave. Consisting of Josh Strawn (Azar Swan) on vocals, guitar and synthesizers, Kevin Hufnagel (Gorguts, Dysrhythmia) on guitar, Toby Driver (Kayo Dot) on bass, and Charlie Schmid (Tombs) on drums and electronics, the band engages ever more with their UK and German prog/art rock influences to grandiose and eerie effect. While still retaining the distinctive and specific style carved out on the band's first two releases (Selenelion in 2010 and the aforementioned The Missing), Sables is the all-vital third release, a concise collection of meditative compositions on endings and extinctions. Brilliantly complemented by the mixing and production work of legendary UK producer Peter Walsh (Scott Walker, Peter Gabriel), Vaura have delivered their best sounding, most intricate and realized album yet."

VA The Kickoff LP
The second sub-label of Ran music, Ran Rad, is officially and finally launched with The Kickoff compilation. "Rad" is the German word for "wheel", signifying the wish to always move forward. Appreciating this, Liu Wei (FLOSO Design) made a logo with an inspiration from the iconic Neza's Wheel on Fire, who is a representative protection deity in Chinese folk religion. Initiated in Leipzig, Germany, Ran Rad is a new member of the Beijing-based label Ran Music. Currently based in Germany and China, Ran Rad aims to support Ran's mission of bridging the underground scene from China and beyond. Ran Rad seeks for interesting sounds covering a diversity of genres, when those from hardware gears are particularly embraced. Bass music, however, is totally Ran Rad's greatest interest. The first release of the label, namely The Kickoff, is a long-awaited compilation including beats of producers from all over the world. International artists on this compilation include Polish electronic music live-act An On Bast, who has just released an EP on Ran Music, Dutch producer Subp Yao and his partner Dayle, German hard-ware geek DRANQ, Swiss duo Simpig, as well as Germany-based footwork producer Terrorrythmus. On the China side, Negative 808 from the south coast of China, Beijing-based young drum and bass talent Radiax, and our old good friend Soulspeak who is using Kai Luen as the alias this time. RAVENSTINE, ALLEN Four Stories Book
"Slim, 44-page perfect bound, paperback containing four stories. Illustrated by Mary Thomas. These four stories were written while Allen was working and touring with the Cleveland band, Pere Ubu, and refer directly to those years. Previously published in The Cleveland Edition, The Re Records Quarterly and The Penguin Book of Rock and Roll Writing. Allen Ravenstine was born in Canton, Ohio in 1950. In 1968 his parents were killed in a car crash. He was a student at Ohio State University when students protesting the Vietnam War were shot at Kent State. All universities in Ohio closed, so he left Columbus, where he was studying English literature, never to return. In the following years he worked with an EML analog synthesizer and a Teac four-track tape recorder and in 1974 bought the Plaza, a ramshackle apartment building in Cleveland's inner city, which soon became the home of painters, poets, writers and musicians. In 1975, he co-founded the legendary Cleveland band, Pere Ubu in which he worked until 1988... leaving to become an airline pilot. Taking up music again in 2012, he appeared with Robert Wheeler in the film 'I Dream of Wires', recorded two album length records, 'Farm Report' and 'City Desk'. In 2014, he released his first solo CD, 'The Pharaoh's Bee'. The critically acclaimed 'Waiting for the Bomb' followed in 2018. Allen lives in New York City with his wife Ann."

BIOTA Fragment For Balance CD
"After 4 years of work on their 11th release for ReR, this extraordinary, reclusive, and highly individual audio-visual collective continues to evolve through the painstaking accumulation and disposition of a seemingly incompatible range of both exotic and familiar musical languages, instruments, techniques and studio manipulations into one of the few genuinely original bands at work today. It took a long time to refine their unique process of composition to this level of ambiguity and depth and newcomers will wonder how they strayed so far from orthodoxy and yet managed to retain a lucidity and transparency that is quite rare in contemporary music. The bullet points are that Biota is a unique project, defying genre with, like all such cult artists, a small but extremely dedicated public that, over the last 15 years has grown continuously as new listeners discover them. Founded in Colorado in the late 1970s, Biota's first recordings were released under the name of the Mnemonist Orchestra who, between 1980 and 1984, released five albums on its own label, before linking up with ReR."

BLACK ZONE MAGICK CHANT Voyage Sacrifice LP
The latest liminal low-end odyssey from French shape-shifter Maxime Primault's Black Zone Magick Chant entity swaps the screwed alien dancehall of past outings in favor of miasmic subterranean ritual, with compelling results. Born of "a few very intense sessions, in altered states of consciousness," the three sprawling compositions comprising Voyage Sacrifice ooze in slow, smoke-choked darkness, awash with dungeon groans, insectoid noise, reverbed bells, molten bass, and distant demonic mumblings. Primault speaks of recent creative strategies attempting to "delete time, or escape time," at which these pieces certainly succeed, entrancing the listener in their spiral sinkhole infinity: beatless, lightless, limitless. Occasionally a rusted, lurching metronome emerges, infusing a drugged sense of forward motion, but the essence of Voyage Sacrifice is textural and tantric -- "almost like some kind of prayer." Chants are chanted; the zone is black. The specter of dub still looms in the disorienting fog of FX and negative space but ultimately these sides exist outside (and deep beneath) any recognizable sonic lineage. This is cultic, questing music, deprivation chamber hallucinations "beyond good and evil, beyond sense and non-sense." This Rorschach enigma dimension is foundational, as Primault admits: "It's a mental journey. I handled the sacrifice; the voyage is yours."

NAPHTA Unlimited LP
Naphta was born in 1978 but differently from the most of other bands from Bologna at that time, they came up with a very peculiar jazz-rock formula mixed up with elements from the almost "out of time" progressive genre. The result was unsettling; their music was mostly improvised with no apparent distinctions between rhythm section and soloists, in fact everybody in the group could have taken a solo at any time but in close relation with the others. All members in the group were classically-trained musicians who were in full control of their actions, all except the singer Marco "Cigaro" Cigarini, whose vocal work and his nonsense lyrics were the most far out aspect and possibly the most fascinating element in the mix. Such music was probably too demanding for the general audience's attitude of the time and the band disappeared not so long after the release of their excellent, self-titled tape (1979). If compared to the original cassette, the present LP reissue includes two extra tracks, "La Femme Fatale" and "Tac", a couple of unearthed pieces which complete the picture of one of the most unconventional creatures in the history of Italian underground music.

Mannequin boss Alessandro Adriani returns to Stroboscopic Artefacts with Embryo -- an immersive four-track micro-odyssey, opening up the path for his sophomore album, Morphic Dreams (STROBO 011CD/008LP). "Elapsed Emptiness" works a dark and unremittingly oppressive vein, slowly sinking its listener into an abstract continuum. Back to groovier spirits, "Symmetry" breaks the bleak maelstrom-like movement. Tailored in collaboration with Chicago's Beau Wanzer, "Inverted Aspects" trades the filthy filters and spacious horizontality of its foregoers for a passive-aggressive acid tech swagger. "Aria (New Beat Version)" maintains a precarious balance between dancefloor-optimized music and a certain spiritual freedom to dream and escape.

STUDIO MULE BGM LP
LP version. Mule Musiq's sub-label Studio Mule has formed a group of shifting members and are now releasing a debut album with eight tracks of reworked, obscure Japanese gems. BGM contains the three singles the group released so far, featuring Miyako Koda of the experimental pop band Dip In The Pool -- whose On Retinae was reissued by Music From Memory to great acclaim (MFM 010EP, 2017) -- on vocals and Mule Musiq staple Kuniyuki on production with direction by label head Toshiya Kawasaki. One of them, "Carnaval", is a cover of the Japanese dance classic by Taeko Ohnuki, produced by Yellow Magic Orchestra. "Shinzo No Tobira" is a remake of the track by Mariah, a band led by sax player Yasuaki Shimizu, from their album Utakata No Hibi (2015) -- which was one of the reissues that sparked the global interest in obscure Japanese music in the last few years. Studio Mule's version features Japanese lyrics rewritten by Miyako Koda. "Face To Face" is a cover of the ambient pop gem from the ultra-rare album by Yumi Murata of Mariah. Also included is a rework of "Kagami No Naka No Jugatsu", a song by Tamao Koike produced by YMO, turned into a dubby Balearic pop track -- dubbier than the version included on the Yen label compilation -- sang by Nanako Sato, one of the artists enjoying some newfound success following a string of reissues stemming from the "city pop" revival craze. The oriental ambient pop "Yugao" by singer songwriter Mioko Yamaguchi is covered by vocalist Saho Terao, who some describe as this generation's Taeko Ohnuki. "The April Fools" is a rework of Yukihiro Takahashi's track, which itself was also a cover of the original song by Burt Bacharach. This new version boasts a more experimental arrangement with Nanako Sato handling the vocals. YMO's "Ballet", originally with vocals by Yukihiro Takahashi, was reconstructed into a dancefloor-ready instrumental by Kuniyuki. Many say Yoshiyuki Ohsawa's "Soshite Bokuwa Toho Ni Kureru" is one of the greatest songs of the '80s. The 12" dance version is reshaped here into a melancholic Balearic house track. The album cover is by the increasingly popular hotshot photographer Kota Shouji.

JITWAM. Honeycomb LP
With his roots in Assam, northeast India, and his hustle now based in Brooklyn, the psychedelic soul-savant known as jitwam. officially drops his second album on the Copenhagen-based label Tartelet Records. To mark its release, a music video to the album's opener "busstop" was shot in the exhilarating city of Mumbai across three days. Honeycomb hits the sweet spot between jitwam's work in dance music and efforts as a bandleader, connecting people in-studio and on-stage. The record encapsulates his diverse upbringing in India and Australia, before living in monasteries in Thailand, orphanages in South Africa, and finally the US, where he currently resides. On jitwam.'s journey, he's worn several musical faces that all highlight soulful sounds within the world of psychedelic indie rock, the hip-hop realm, and underground house music. These sounds and musical identities are apparent in his 12-track album of broken microphone blues, heartfelt vocals, and smooth assorted instrumentation. It follows jitwam.'s well-received EPs on his own imprint, The Jazz Diaries, which secured him a spot on Moodymann's DJ Kicks compilation. Honeycomb was recorded at the Steam Room Sessions studio in London, where Natureboy Flako lent his special touch to jitwam.'s tracks across some intimate collaborative sessions. What's left is sonic "diary entries" that put a magnifying glass on life's mundane moments, turning them into inspired tales of life, love, sadness, and periods of ecstatic release. Album opener "busstop" finds him welcoming you into his world with warm guitar riffs, smooth basslines, and lyrics about the comforting chaos of urban life in India. Features are aplenty: London artist Marie Bashiru adds croons to the buttery "diamonds" and "temptations"; trumpet is worked in by Henry Wu-collaborator Nick Walton; and frequent Brooklyn-based collaborator Aquiles Navarro features on the lullaby jam "hearts don't lie." Hazy '90s hip-hop drums and warm synths bring the listener into "i'm a rock." Jazz-funk enters the room on "trustt", a tune that's all groovy basslines and cosmic soundscapes. "opendoors" brings up the energy for one of the LP's most full on, hands-up trips; it's a mix of buzzing horns and uplifting vocals about the possibilities to be found in any moment if you just let go -- and let loose. Honeycomb frees jitwam. from any parameters of a dance floor 12-inch. It blasts open the doors for an artist who fuses musical identities and stitches together ideas into some of the warmest music you'll hear all year.

In the December 21, 1961 issue of Downbeat Magazine jazz critic Don DeMicheal commented, 'Nelson's playing is like his writing: thoughtful, unhackneyed, and well-constructed. CAMERON, JOHN Kes: Original Soundtrack Music LP
Out of print since 2001, a classic Trunk release gets a rare repress, the original soundtrack of Kes. This is pastoral British jazz film music at its very best. Includes sleeve notes by Jarvis Cocker. Kes by Ken Loach is one of the greatest British films of all time. It also has one of the finest soundtracks of the period. Put together by the incredibly talented John Cameron (the arranger for Donovan and great film score composer in his own right) this score sums up beautifully the freedom, innocence, and tragedy put across in the film. With a crack British jazz line-up, including flute legend Harold McNair, Ronnie Ross (bass clarinet), Tony Carr (drums), Danny Moss (clarinet), and David Snell (harp), this score not only appeals to the soundtrack collectors but also followers of the classic British jazz sound. Source material was the original John Cameron master, which had been slightly damaged at the front end, so there is a slight change in volume at the beginning of the LP. Nobody moaned back in 2001. Things might be different now. The score is only 19 minutes long and therefore fits perfectly onto a one-sided LP. Full color sleeve; Produced by Jonny Trunk."The sound of long-lost childhood... The smell of a damp school cloakroom, from an age when comics were still printed on newsprint... But this is more than just a product of the nostalgia industry -- put on this album and immediately you'll be soaring through the air, free of your earth shackles; for this is the sound of a human soul in flight. A beautiful daydream antidote to an all too real South Yorkshire nightmare. This is the real thing. This is beauty so fragile it hurts." --Jarvis Cocker

KIRCHIN, BASIL Worlds Within Worlds: Part I And II LP
A few stray extra copies of this RSD 2019 release. Worlds Within Worlds: Part I And II is one of the most important experimental and improvised jazz-based recordings of all time. Released in 1971 it sold just a handful of copies, but has become a keystone in the development of ambient sounds; originals now fetch £1000+. This is the first time this exceptional, unique, and highly desirable record has been repressed. Originally conceived whilst walking round the docklands in Hull, Basil Kirchin felt that the futuristic music he had often imagined could actually be made. Only in 1969 and with the help of an arts grant could he afford the vital equipment he needed: a Nagra tape machine and Sennheiser directional microphone. Armed with these tools he set about recording landscapes, people, places, machines, animals, birds, bees, the zoo, and the autistic children from Schurmatt in Switzerland. He then took these recordings, edited them and then began the process of slowing them down to reveal the "little boulders of sound" hidden deep within the recordings. Kirchin built up layers of noise, symphonies of slowness, and then encouraged his jazz associates including Derek Bailey and Evan Parker to improvise along. The result was WWW, and nothing quite like it had been made or heard before. Today it offers listeners a mesmerizing sonic experience that remains years ahead of its time. This first ever repress features a new gatefold sleeve (Kirchin hated the original sleeve), with images of Kirchin, his original field recording tapes, and notes by WWW fan Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth). Edition of 1500 with 300 on gold vinyl; the LPs will be mixed randomly -- there will be no way of telling which color is which as all LPs will be sealed. Personnel: Basil Kirchin, Evan Parker, Derek Bailey, Claire Deniz, Graham Lyons, Daryl Runswick, Frank Ricotti. The perfect RSD release.

HAYS & CHIARA IZZI, KEVIN Across The Sea CD
Jando Music/Via Veneto Jazz release Across The Sea, by Kevin Hays and Chiara Izzi. This album is the outcome of an encounter of two musicians so distant and yet so inexorably close. A project where the music is always tangible, not volatile, particularly when born under a bright inspirational sky. Those holding the reins of this visionary journey between jazz and pop, America and Italy, dream and lyricism are, without doubt, the two artists: Chiara, with her warm, Mediterranean voice and Kevin, one of the most celebrated and admired pianists and composers on the American jazz scene who can boast distinguished pop music collaborations (James Taylor). Across The Sea was recorded at the legendary Sear Sound in New York; the outcome of diligent project work, with the collaboration of several guests such as Omer Avital, Gregoire Maret, Nir Felder, Chris Potter, and Rogério Boccato that simply amplify the awareness that this shared journey, so rich and adventurous, began under the best auspices. The compelling predominance of melody, the osmosis between vocals and keyboards and the amazing confluence of their singing voices, have sublimated the tasks related to production into subtle finishing touches of a chisel, aromas, invitations and "further" sounds magically converging into the final work. The French horn in the emblematic "Two For The Road", the ancestral oud in the Miles Davis classic "Nardis", the punctual and decisive harmonica in Pat Metheny's "James", the caressing guitar in "Circles Of The Mind", the sinuous saxophone in "Viaggio Elegiaco", are just a few examples.

2019 repress. New "regular edition" on 140 gram vinyl. We Release Jazz (WRWTFWW Records' new sister-label) present the official reissue of criminally overlooked Japanese jazz gem Mellow Dream by Hokkaido pianist wunderkind Ryo Fukui, originally released in 1977. Released in conjunction with the its legendary predecessor 1976's Scenery (WRJ 001CD/LP/LTD-LP). Firmly standing on the foundation he laid down with Scenery, Ryo Fukui continues his exploration of modal, bop, and cool jazz sounds with meticulous grace and absolute mastery. As its title suggests, Mellow Dream ventures into slightly mellower, more soulful, and sometimes more contemplative territories (the Bill Evans-reminiscent "Mellow Dream" and "My Foolish Heart") while still packing the commanding punch Fukui's work is loved for, as heard on the amazingly bombastic "Baron Potato Blues" or the gigantic McCoy Tyner/John Coltrane-influenced "Horizon" which sees each member of the trio -- Satoshi Denpo is on bass and Yoshinori Fukui is on drums -- demonstrating their virtuosity for nine exhilarating minutes. With his sophomore album, Ryo Fukui swings from melancholy to vibrant joy with ease, and reminds you that jazz is best served with a pinch of blues, and displays an immensely rare combination of pure talent, unique personal approach and focused discipline. The man undeniably deserves a spot in the pantheon of all-time great jazz pianists. After releasing the outstanding Scenery and Mellow Dream back-to-back, Ryo Fukui worked on developing his live skills, often performing at Sapporo's Slowboat Jazz Club (which he co-founded with his wife Yasuko Fukui), and even releasing two live albums. He sadly passed away in March 2016, leaving behind a legacy of works that all jazz lovers should explore. Sourced from the original masters. Mastered at half speed; 140 gram vinyl; includes sticker.

VIGGIANO, ALESSIO We_R_House 005 12"
Alessio Viggiano steps up to deliver the fifth release on the We_R_House imprint, comprising four swinging house grooves from the rising Italian artist. "Swing Frequency" leads, as the name would suggest embracing a heavily swung feel rhythmically alongside modulating synths and swirling pads. "Crispy Nuts" follows with robust drums, bumpy bass stabs and an amalgamation of intricately programmed synth shots. "Slam Dunk" opens the B side next with skippy drums, airy chords, and resonant bleeps ebbing-and-flowing within before "Atomizer" closes, laying focus on swinging snares, rides and Rhodes alongside a snaking bass groove to keep things moving.

ANT ANTIC Whoop! EP 12"
Ant Antic is the singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer Tobias Koett -- originally from Austria, currently based in Berlin. On stage, he's joined by two musicians on drums and synthesizers to form a full live band. His signature sound: melancholy wrapped in contemporary R&B. Distinctive vocals that will stay with you forever, driven by a solid backbone of avant-garde beats of incredibly high-level production. Outside of conventional pop song structures, his latest single "Whoop!" blends stripped-down four-to-the-floor aesthetics with an analog approach to sound design. The result is as emotional, honest and relatable as it is catchy.

GRAUZONE Eisbar 12"
WRWTFWW Records announce the official reissue of Grauzone's essential 1981 maxi single with timeless classic "Eisbär", proto-techno beast "FILM 2", and romantic synth ballad "Ich Lieb Sie", just in time for the 40th anniversary of the Swiss band's formation. "Ich möchte ein Eisbär sein?" written by Martin Eicher after a nightmare in which he saw talking polar bears on the walls, and with music by the Grauzone crew consisting of Martin and his brother Stephan Eicher, Marco Repetto, Christian "GT" Trüssel, and Claudine Chirac (on saxophone), "Eisbär" is the most recognizable title from the band, a sublime mix of ingredients reflecting the transitional era it comes from -- the raw energy of punk music still palpable, combined with the audacity of early electronics, the warm groove of a disco gem, beautifully fragile lyrics, and one of the best basslines ever. It became a mega hit, totally unplanned, but how could you resist such a track? "FILM 2" is the ultimate B-side monster, a menacing all-instrumental pre-techno masterpiece, slowly building to a magnetizing frenzy. An instant underground favorite, it was famously heard played at both speeds depending on the scenes and DJs you were frequenting, 45rpm as it was first intended, and 33rpm for the cosmic experience. The maxi single ends with "Ich Lieb Sie", a synth-pop meets doo-wop ballad, a true love song oozing with innocence -- simple, stylish, and just right. At the crossroads of post-punk, new wave, pop, and electronic experimentation, the Eisbär maxi offers three songs that are technically different but hold the same spirit, the perfect embodiment of Grauzone's music -- wild, unpredictable, and youthful, yet sophisticated, catchy, and ingenious. The magic recipe for the good stuff. Stephan Eicher went on to be, arguably, the most successful Swiss musician ever, with an international career extending from pop chanson to experimental escapades and collaborations with Moondog, artists Sophie Calle and John Armleder, and author Martin Suter among many other luminaries. Marco Repetto flourished as a techno and ambient producer, releasing multiple projects including releases on Aphex Twin's Rephlex label. Grauzone and WRWTFWW will continue to collaborate on the band's 40th anniversary reissue campaign, with numerous projects planned for the year, including a vast selection of music, visuals, and literature never available before. Sourced from the original reels; cut at 45rpm; Includes iconic artwork on a 350gsm sleeve.
