UMILIANI, PIERO Il Paradiso Dell'uomo LP
Alternative Fox present a reissue of Piero Umiliani's Il Paradiso Dell'uomo, originally released in 1963. Italian film composer Piero Umiliani enjoyed a long and illustrious career, creating nearly 200 film soundtracks, along with 40 music library LPs, and some 35 television themes. Born in Florence in 1926, he was first recognized internationally for his work on the soundtrack of 1958 crime caper I Soliti Ignoti (AKA Big Deal on Madonna Street, Persons Unknown or Le Pigeon), which featured noted jazz trumpeter, Chet Baker -- the first time, in fact, that jazz music had been used for an Italian comedy feature. Umiliani teamed with Baker again in 1961, along with Croatian-American jazz singer Helen Merrill, for the soundtrack of Smog, a drama about an Italian lawyer's unintended escapades in Los Angeles, and his work was later featured on American and British television shows, including The Muppets, the Benny Hill Show, and the Red Skelton Show. Il Paradiso Dell'uomo (AKA Man's Paradise), subtitled "Forbidden Japan", was a little-known documentary released in 1963 focusing on the roles assigned to women in the country, from the traditional pearl-fishing divers of the coast and urban factory workers to traditional dancers and the ambiguous world of geisha and striptease. This impossibly-rare soundtrack mixes eastern and western musical elements, veering from classical tropes to swing jazz, with Chinese singer Mei Lang Chang on a couple of tracks and singer/composer/musicologist Francesco Potenza leading the chorus on another. 180 gram vinyl.

REICH, STEVE Berkeley November 7, 1970 LP
Alternative Fox delivers a landmark release in the history of minimalism with a live performance documented from one of the genre's key figures: Steve Reich. Recorded live at Berkeley University in the 1970s (home also to key minimalism figures Terry Riley and La Monte Young), this performance sees Reich deliver some of his now legendary compositions, such as the shifting tape-loop experimentation of "My Name Is", whereby vocals are cut-up, looped, and played at different speeds to create constantly shifting combinations. Similar to his "It's Gonna Rain", it's utterly disorientating and makes for an absorbing listening whilst doffing a cap to cut-up techniques championed by early Dadaists and later Brion Gyson and Burroughs. The two-part "Piano Phase" demonstrates the effects of playing minimalistic notes on two separate pianos at slightly different speeds, so the two drifting an out of phase with each other. The effects are highly meditative, causing subtle rhythmic mutations throughout the piece, whilst "Phase Patterns" explores a similar technique albeit with a grainer electric organ. Last but not least, "Four Organs" explores the effects of sustained chords on multiple organs, set amongst a perpetual maraca, whereby the combination of interlocking chords on the separate instruments amalgamate to form a dense, textured tonal tapestry. 180 gram vinyl.

LES RALLIZES DENUDES + BE There's No Heaven Like Hell 2LP
One of the strangest and most enigmatic groups in the history of rock n' roll, Les Rallizes Denudes, also known as Hadaka no Rallizes or Hadaka no Rarizu, were a Japanese experimental rock band that is often cited as a pioneering force of the noise rock movement. The story of the band is as strange and difficult as the music they made and although much of the tale is shrouded in mystery, everything apparently begins around Kyoto's radical anti-establishment communes of the late 1960s, where androgynous frontman Takashi Mizutani formed the group in November 1967 while attending Kyoto University. Hard facts are in thin supply and the band's name employs complex punning that essentially equates to "Fucked Up and Naked" in Japanese, a slang reference to being high on drugs. Inspired by the Velvet Underground and other groups employing prominent, overamplified guitar, the band's music was typically based on repetitive rhythmic patterns bolstered by Mizutani's heavily distorted lead guitar, though the poor sound quality of early demos apparently turned Mizutani away from studio recordings, rendering much of their output in the form of live bootlegs, supplanted by the occasional leaked studio demo. Early performances were given as accompaniment to avant-garde theater groups, though the group was soon deemed too loud to be a mere accompaniment, and membership fluctuated frequently, with Mizutani being the only constant, though he retreated from public view following the 1970 Red Army hijacking of Japan Airlines flight 351, with the assistance of original Rallizes bass player, Moriaki Wakabayashi, who subsequently fled to North Korea; the band continued to sporadically record and perform under various guises until 1997. The two versions of There's No Heaven Like Hell, presented here, was recorded on April 1, 1975 at Rallizes House in Fussa, a small town to the west of Tokyo, joining Mizutani with keyboardist/guitarist Taisuke Morishita's experimental group Be, originally known as Yellow. The first version takes the form of an epic slow drone, featuring Mizutani on acid guitar, backed only by Morishita's pulsating synthesizer lines; the second version is in full marathon mode, an hour-long dirge that sees the spacey duo joined by drummer Shunichiro Shoda and a plodding bassist in the latter portion.

SANDERS, PHAROAH Live at Antibes Jazz Festival in Juan-les-Pins July 21, 1968 LP
Pharoah Sanders, live at the Antibes Jazz Festival in Juan-les-Pins on July 21, 1968. Experimental jazz titan Pharoah Sanders made a lasting impact with his unorthodox approach to tenor saxophone. Born Farrell Sanders in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1940, he was given the nickname Pharoah by grandmother, in reference to the potential regal lineage of his African heritage. Playing clarinet at church services during his youth, he began playing tenor sax at high school. In 1959 he moved to Oakland, California, where he played with rhythm and blues bands and befriended John Coltrane. Moving to New York in 1961, he drifted into Sun Ra's Arkestra after experiencing a difficult period of homelessness. His status began to rise upon joining Coltrane's band in 1965, where his discordant solos formed a strong contrast to Trane's more melodious sound, though each player had a strong impact on the other's subsequent work. Following Coltrane's untimely death in 1967, Sanders formed a quartet of his own with former Jazz Messengers pianist Lonnie Liston Smith, bassist Norman "Sirone" Jones of the Untraditional Jazz Improvisational Team, and drummer Majeed Shabazz. For this blistering performance, given at the Antibes Jazz Festival of 1968 and broadcast on French radio station WDR3, the quartet moves through various Sanders free-jazz workouts, taking in "Venus" from the Tauhid album (1967) and "The Creator Has A Master Plan" from Karma (1969) along the way, with the rhythm section holding down the fort as Sanders blows himself into the stratosphere.

VA Sad About the Times CD
"You are alone in a hot tub on a warm summer night back in the '70s. Scarcely a week earlier she was right there with you, laughing, gazing at the stars, the FM radio playing the top pop hits as you frolicked in the gurgling water. Now she's gone. Really gone. Then a song you never heard before comes on the radio. You feel like it reaches into some place that has already been prepared in your mind. It is as if the song is reading you. The song really knows she's gone, and more. What a great hook, you think. Then you never hear it again. You remember it really captured the way you felt, it sounded sad but somehow had a healing quality. Down but not out. It seemed familiar the first time you heard it, as if it had cut to the front of the line while the other meaningful songs in your life were taking years to get there. What was that song?I have good news for you. It's on this album even if it's not on this album. What we are talking about here is a time when there was only so much room at the top and limited alternatives to mainstream radio for a song to get heard. I made up the guy in the hot tub but not the nature of the song. It doesn't matter exactly what the song is. Every song on this album is that song. They all could have been hits. Each with a different flavor, all subtly conveying universal emotions that are hard to describe but easy to feel. Little room at the top back then (another reason to be sad about the times...) but we have plenty of room in 2018. These songs come in the wake of the psychedelic sixties after the high-flying idealism had run its course and singer songwriters were ascendant. After the party, reality kicks in. You have to deal with yourself about how you deal with your friends and lovers. You can't always work it out but you can sprinkle a little sugar on your sadness with songs like these to keep you company. You can hear echoes of folk rock, soft rock, even detect some psychedelic flashbacks but the atmosphere is dominated by that human being whose voice you are hearing. He's not up on stage, he's in your mirror. Have you ever felt sad about the times you are living in? Anyone who hasn't seems to me at first lucky, but perhaps simultaneously cursed. This music reaches because it resonates with experiences in your own life that made you feel sad and alone. The artists here are dealing with difficult emotions. There's a reason smiley faces don't have ears. Sadness can be life affirming; these songs can open that door. If they couldn't they wouldn't be so enjoyable. 'Heaven is boring, hell is where the action is' someone said but if you mix the two together you might come up with some songs like these. Compiled by Mikey Young (Total Control / Eddy Suppression Ring) and Keith Abrahamsson (Founder / Head of A&R at Anthology Recordings), Sad About the Times is a set of North American '70s jammers. With a hint of (at times) West Coast jangle, these tracks traverse the border between the power pop of the times and a late-night coke jam." Features West, Hollins Ferry, Randy & The Goats, Willow, Art Lown, Jode, Norma Tanega, Perth County Conspiracy, David Chalmers, Jim Spencer, Hoover, Space Opera, Roger Rodier, Emmett Finley, Sky, The Smubbs, Oliver Klaus, Antonia Lamb, Kevin Vicalvi, Boz Metzdorf, and Dennis Stoner.

SANDERS, PHAROAH Jewels Of Thought LP
Restocked. "Pharoah Sanders is Spiritual Jazz, is Devotional Music, is the greatest living link between John Coltrane, Kamasi Washington, and the next generation of this great lineage. His Tenor Sound, his Singing Voice, his compositions, and his recordings have already stood the test of time, in his time, endured, ever-aged so finely, and have now (in my opinion) surpassed critique. Pharoah Sanders is a giant, an innovator, colorful, prayerful, and worthy of all our attention, celebration, and enthusiastic, even ecstatic accolades! Pharoah, (born Farrell Sanders of Little Rock, Arkansas on October 13, 1940,) was not only in John Coltrane's Band from 1965 - 1967, and featured as a Tenor Saxophonist on his Impulse! albums Ascension, Live At The Village Vanguard Again!, Kulu Sé Mama, Meditations, and Om, but had his own distinct concept and direction that you can hear on those recordings. Where John Coltrane is the Father of this Music, Pharoah is John's Brother, his bright, younger contemporary who was ready to express prolifically. His was a sound of entrancement, deep emotion, lyrical chanting, layered mosaic rhythmic grooves, poly-melodic heart cries, ensemble percussion, Love, surrender, upliftment, communication with his ancestors, contemporaries and those yet to arrive, and hope for awakening and peace within Humanity. Of Pharoahs 11 albums on Impulse! as a leader, the ones in front of you are Tauhid (#1 from 1967), Jewels Of Thought (#3 from 1969) and Summun Bukmun Umyun - Deaf Dumb Blind (#4 from 1970). It was John Coltrane's influence on Music and the Recording Industry that opened the door for Pharoah Sanders, and through that door Pharoah would fly, soar and inspire! During this time he was also featured on Alice Coltrane's Impulse! releases Ptah, The El Daoud playing Tenor Saxophone, Alto Flute and Bells and on her most beloved recording Journey In Satchidananda playing Soprano Saxophone and Percussion. The significance of Pharoah Sanders today is for you to discover. He is among my greatest inspirations of all time and always will be! He is a man of few words, and when you see him play now, it's more about being in his presence than expecting him to play lots of flashy runs. From his first note you know it's him and that you're in for profound integrity and deeply soulful energy. He always dresses in bold, bright hues, sometimes patterns, sometimes wearing shades, always a fez or hat of some sort. He stood out in GQ Style's 2016 feature 'These 10 Living Legends of Jazz Prove Nobody Can Out-Dress the OGs' -- the relevance is there. So strong! The last time I saw Pharoah in Los Angeles at Catalina's I was happy to connect with my friend Knxwledge. He was there with Rapper Earl Sweatshirt and Producer Alchemist. I sat with a table of 18-year-old prodigies including pianist Jamael Dean . . . Recommendation: Put all of these records on repeat for days and days, let them transmute your life, then tell your friends, family and everyone you come into contact with about Pharoah Sanders!'

HAWKSHAW, ALAN The Road Forward LP
Be With Records have raided the KPM archives to reissue another favorite from the KPM 1000 series, Alan Hawkshaw's The Road Forward, originally released in 1977. A comprehensive collection of descriptive contemporary scores, the track titles swoon just by their names: "Strangelands", "A Man Alone", "Sheer Elegance", "Mystique Voyage", "Cruising". Don't you just want to hear those? The maestro Alan Hawkshaw really spoils his listeners on this, one of the most sought after KPM greensleeves. This collection from 1977 is a brilliantly varied blend of silky smooth synths, funk-fueled clavichord grooves, and soft focus space beats. Essential. As with all of Be With Records' KPM reissues, the audio for The Road Forward comes from the original analog tapes and has been remastered for vinyl by Be With regular Simon Francis. Be With have taken the same care with the sleeves, handing the reproduction duties over to Richard Robinson, the current custodian of KPM's brand identity. PARKER/JOHN CAMERON, ALAN Afro Rock LP
Be With Records have raided the KPM archives to reissue another favorite from the KPM 1000 series, Alan Parker and John Cameron's Afro Rock, originally released in 1973. Hard Afro pop featuring large percussive rhythm section and front line. One of the best-loved of all the KPM LPs. Afro Rock was recorded at Morgan Studios by John Cameron and Alan Parker in London in 1973 as a collection of stripped-down African rhythms, virtuoso jazz instrumentation, fuzzed-up wah wah guitars, and spaced-out library breaks. The percussion is effortlessly funky, and those flutes so melodic, it's as if the LP was crafted with the beat lovers of the future firmly in mind. As Cameron himself described it in Unusual Sounds, this is "heavy duty drum-and-bass salsa music". As with all of Be With Records' KPM reissues, the audio for Afro Rock comes from the original analog tapes and has been remastered for vinyl by Be With regular Simon Francis. HAWKSHAW/KEITH MANSFIELD, ALAN Beat Incidental LP
Be With Records have raided the KPM archives to reissue another favorite from the KPM 1000 series, Alan Hawkshaw and Keith Mansfield's Beat Incidental, originally released in 1969. Underscore moods and links, contemporary beat music idiom -- Includes some of the most sublime, sub-ten second, tracks you're ever likely to hear, alongside more adequately sized library funk heat. The dream team of Alan Hawkshaw and Keith Mansfield are here at the helm of one of the most legendary of the legendary KPM albums, originally released in 1969. Beat Incidental is psychedelic pop-soul that hits hard thanks to fuzz guitars, growling flutes, deep Hammond grooves, and drum breaks galore: it's basically "drama jazz". PATRICIA Heavy Merging 12"
On this new EP for Black Opal, Ravitz presents four distinct tracks. "Heavy Merge" already feels emotionally weighted as it swoons with the lilting pitch of its pads and the fuzzy bite of a 303, but then "Balance Acid" pushes its own billowing veil of tape-warped melody further up in the mix. "No One Needs Nothing" has a sense of futurism that aims skywards. "Too Many Takes" runs with this theme, strapping the sonics to an electro framework and fusing dub-wise spatial awareness with a limber dance meter.

BRYAN'S MAGIC TEARS 4 AM LP
LP version. Includes download code. Remember those moth-eaten American bands on unreachable Midwest labels that, in the mid-1990s, would drop choruses that would make the Smashing Pumpkins green with envy, with the crummiest sound in the history of electricity? Maybe not. Well, Bryan's Magic Tears could have been one of them. This project launched four years ago by Benjamin Dupont (Dame Blanche), which features members and ex-members of La Secte Du Futur and Marietta, indeed has it all to occupy this niche, which, by the way, has quite fallen into disuse these days: toxic melodies, guitars oscillating between whiplashes and caresses, ghostly sonorities, and a convoluted name referring to some obscure Parisian acid dealer. But wait: this is not about a vain stylistic exercise put together by some gifted kids who fantasize about a time they missed, nor a sad revivalist meeting of old farts who still haven't gotten over turning 40. If listening to Bryan's Magic Tears brings the '90s to mind, it's not because of the sound, but because of a state of mind that was peculiar to the time and to this particular moment in adolescence, when the last illusions aroused by the fall of the Berlin Wall were slowly fading away, when the dark clouds of the first Gulf War were piling up; this carefree, jaded spleen perfectly depicted in Gregg Araki's films or in songs by Sebadoh, Beat Happening, or Nirvana -- or even in this famous line from Lou Reed's "Romeo Had Juliet": "It's hard to give a shit these days". A state of mind that remains pure, intact, limpid in Bryan's Magic Tears music, free from any posture or cynicism, at the service of insane titles which made their first album (2016). And you find it again today, even more intense and precise on 4 AM, a collection of insane hits -- "Ghetto Blaster", "CEO", "Changes", the whole album could actually be mentioned. A record made for those clear and cool days of spring when everything suddenly looks brighter, clearer, and more intense. An obvious, indestructible, lunar, romantic, arrogant, phlegmatic, disillusioned record. In short, a record that makes you wish you were 18 again.

LE VILLEJUIF UNDERGROUND When Will The Flies In Deauville Drop? LP
LP version. Includes download code. A bass player looking like the main character of a surf movie shot in Chernobyl. A guitar player who'll take French rap or Thaï music over the Stooges, anytime. A keyboard player invited at rehearsal by mistake who got the job because he fell asleep on his synth. An Australian poet-singer lost in France with no papers, sleeping in a cabin in the backyard of the Villejuif house where the whole band lives, sets up shows and records the most vital, exciting and enthralling records heard in France for a long, long time. PRs and managers would kill for such a story -- this one is 100% accurate and happened just like any great story: by chance. Just like the music of Le Villejuif Underground, the result of happy accidents and unholy alliances, something that was never meant to be but became an astonishing fandango of sorts. Think Fat White Family covering Oingo Boingo with Beat Happening's gear. Think Beck's One Foot In The Grave (1994) remixed by Daniel Johnston and Brian Wilson. Think Ausmuteants, the Spits, the Feeling Of Love, or A Frames when they really nailed it. Actually, you shouldn't think about any of this cause whatever you do, you'll still be far from reality. Way too far. Especially now with the release of When Will The Flies In Deauville Drop?, their second album and the first one on Born Bad Records. 11 tracks in a bit less than 40 minutes. 11 clumsy love letters to heavy backpacks, haunted castles, sleepy Parisian districts, and tours in China -- which happened by total chance, thanks to some girl found asleep on their couch on New Year's Eve. 11 reasons to think there's a way out of 2019 -- already. Your stormy love story with Le Villejuif Underground starts here. Be sure to enjoy it. To the max.

VA Chevance (etc.): Outremusique Pour Enfants 1975-1984 CD
English title: Chevance (etc.): Another Music for Children 1975-1984. France at the crossroads of the '70s: the Chevance collection revolutionizes music for children. Mixing forward-thinking folk and avant-garde jazz, driven by a strong literary spirit, its exceptional catalog was created under the direction of producer Philippe Gavardin, in the tradition of the Saravah label or iconoclastic publisher Harlin Quist. It brought together a band of classically inspired free musicians, propelling its singers into orbit by exploiting all the fantastical potential of texts by Jean Tardieu, Robert Desnos, Jacqueline Held, and many others. More strictly instrumental, its younger sibling, the Sonoriage collection completed the company, dedicating itself to the acousmatic exploration of children's familiar environments. The small collection named Chevance was founded by Philippe Gavardin in the course of the 1970s. Gavardin, notably with free jazz drummer Jean-Louis Méchali, forged the identity of this series of recordings for the younger generations: musically Janus-faced, definitely literary, impregnated with a surrealism that echoed the decade's psychedelic and libertarian experiments. Each record took a clear direction: modern fables, bestiaries, musical tales, cookbooks; words were the backbone of every release. In the chanson category, Anne et Gilles alternated with the Swiss actress Cristine Combe who had recently settled in Paris and wanted to sing Kurt Weill; as for the folk projects, Imbert and Moreau, were more in the hippie vein, took turns with the canonical pioneer Steve Waring. The musicians included many jazzmen from the adventurous French scene, including Cohelmec Ensemble, The Marvelous Band, and various mavericks like Teddy Lasry or Jacques Cassard. Initially distributed by the label Le Chant du Monde, Chevance was definitely included in the catalog of this venerable parent company when Gavardin started directing it. Mixing songwriting and avant-garde jazz, Chevance seems to be, first of all, Saravah's younger sibling. Cohelmec Ensemble bridged the two worlds, the teams got to know one another and often worked in the same studios. As for the literary dimension, it is right in the lineage of the American iconoclastic publisher Harlin Quist, whose activity in France left its mark on the genre. The parallelism with Chevance goes even beyond questions of editorial, graphical, or typographical choices: the two worked with the same team of illustrators, which included Henri Galeron, Nicole Claveloux, and Patrick Couratin. While Chevance had strong literary roots, Le Chant du Monde developed, in the middle of the 1980s, another collection in a more abstract, rigorously instrumental line, far from textual concerns. Features Anne et Gilles, Steve Waring, Christine Combe, Jean-François Gaël, Le Groupe Organon, Alain Savouret, and Naomi Moudi. CD version includes 24-page booklet in both French and English.

VA Chevance (etc.): Outremusique Pour Enfants 1975-1984 LP
LP version. Includes six-page booklet in French and English. MAZOUNI Un Dandy En Exil - Algerie/France - 1969/1983 2LP
Double LP version. Includes printed inner sleeve with liner notes both in French and English by Rabah Mezaouane; Includes download code. Mohamed Mazouni, born January 4, 1940 in Blida (The City of Roses), a city which had just turned twenty. His memory dragged around a lot of catchy refrains by Rabah Driassa and Abderrahmane Aziz, also natives of Blida, or by 'asri (modern music) masters Bentir or Lamari. He began his singing career in those years, chosing bedoui as a style. In June 1965, Algeria adopted a Soviet-style profile where everything was planned, even music. Mazouni, he followed his path, recording a few popular tunes, but he also was in the mood for traveling beyond the Mediterranean. During the 1950s and 1960s, Mohamed was dumbfounded by Oum Kalsoum's songs and scopitones. Fully immersed, he soaked up the songs of Dahmane El Harrachi, Slimane Azem, Akli Yahiaten, or Cheikh El Hasnaoui, but also those from the crazy years of twist and rock n' roll as embodied by Johnny Hallyday, Les Chaussettes Noires, or Les Chats Sauvages, not to mention Elvis Presley. Between 1970 and 1990, he had a series of hits. Mazouni, a dandy shattered by his century and always all spruced up who barely performed on stage, had greatly benefited from the impact of scopitones, the ancestors of music videos. His strength lay in Arabic lyrics all his compatriots could understand, and catchy melodies accompanied by violin, goblet drum, qanun, tar (a small tambourine with jingles), lute, and sometimes electric guitar on yé-yé compositions. Like a politician, Mazouni drew on all themes knowing that he would nail it each time. This earned him the nickname "Polaroid singer". Mohamed Mazouni crossed the 1960s and 1970s with his dark humor and unifying mix of local styles. Besides his trivial topics, he also denounced racism and the appalling condition of immigrant workers. However, his way of telling of high school girls, cars and pleasure places earned him the favors of France's young migrant zazous. At the end of the 1990s, the distribution of Michèle Collery and Anaïs Prosaïc's documentary on Arabic and Berber scopitones highlighted Mazouni's importance. Mazouni did not stop singing and even had a few local hits, always driven by a "wide targeting" ambition. This compilation, the first one dedicated to him, includes all of his never-reissued "hits" with, as a bonus, unobtainable songs such as "L'amour Maâk", "Bleu Délavé", or "Daag Dagui".

WILD CLASSICAL MUSIC ENSEMBLE, THE Tout Va Bien Se Passer (Everything Will Be Alright) LP
LP version. Includes insert and download code. In current times, how should mental disability be dealt with in an unrestrained, open-minded way? How can society take on this difference not as a barrier but as an opportunity? By directly confronting its creative force and abounding energy. And what better place for this than on a stage, where disability ceases to be a "negative" and becomes a "positive", finally revealing exceptionally strong human beings, without any blinders or artifices. From experimental group Les Harry's, to hip-hop collective Choolers Division, to the multifaceted projects of Atelier Méditerranée (now Brut Pop), many are the initiatives that have explored this channel in recent years. The Wild Classical Music Ensemble is: Linh Pahm, Johan Geenens, Wim Decoene, and Sebastien Faidherbe, four mentally disabled persons, led by the Belgian musician and violin-maker Damien Magnette. The group's first album, released in confidentiality on Sub Rosa (SR 274CD, 2009), had gone under the radar and no one seemed to know how to approach it. Yet, no less than six labels (including Born Bad Records) grappled to put out Tapping Is Clapping in 2015 (BORNBAD 071LP), a new LP full of fire and fury, a record of an "other" category. And if in 2019 you still haven't dared to let yourself be hammered by the Wild Classical Musical Ensemble's steamroller, rest assured: the time to catch-up his here with Tout Va Bien Se Passer (Everything Will Be Alright), the ensemble's third record together and from far its most accessible yet. But careful, this isn't a sort of lull, far from it -- as evidenced by the exceptional "Bande De", a furious symphony of curses on which Fabrice, the singer of Frustration, stirs up an already stifling atmosphere. It's rather a convergence, a rebalancing of flows, and more accessible material. Making your trip to this parallel dimension more colorful and hallucinated. Orchestrated by Magnette's original instruments (percussion bass, melodica from outer space, devious microphones, effect pedals transformed into a Theremin), specifically designed for each member of the group. A trip full of dizzying earthquakes and triumphant storms, populated by jelly-like Talking Heads ("Trainstation") and damaged Devos ("Autofile"), where you will dance to lunar punk ("Carapace"), and screaming robot-rock ("Ik Ben Blij").

TERRINE Cheat Days LP
"Cheat Days is the new release by Terrine (aka Claire Gapenne, also in Headwar), part techno noise and part bedroom freak électronique. Cheat Days is pressed at 45RPM for maximum heaviness and delight. Nothing ever really runs like clockwork in Gapenne's weird and wonderful world. The Tinker Bell of French noise, her magic whip has the power to turn one into a horse drawn carriage or an old pumpkin. A hyperactive activist and artist, she has been part of Accueil Froid for the past seven years in Amiens. This collective has invited the best of experimental rock to their town, eyes and ears wide open in a place where there is (almost) nothing except pretty canals and unemployment. Her music releases pressure valves and opens a perspective onto infinite possibilities. Though known for manhandling her bass as part of Headwar and has made her mark in numerous groups with delightfully silly names (Snif Nazal, Couteau Twins, and Me Donner), the riotous Terrine has paved a path for herself with constancy and determination. Turning up where least expected, she changes the game plan according to her art and the people she meets, increasingly preoccupied with defying genre, nimbly and tactfully skipping from one style to the next. With the aptly titled Cheat Days, she has concocted a disorientating mix of stunted techno, limping dub and piano-wave improv. Though one could imagine she would dive head first into EBM and post-industrial techno, she now takes a completely different direction with this album; everything is guarded, the approach is minimalist and intensely personal. Between gusts of peripheral noise captured on the go, she dares to combine Cabaret Voltaire and Pascal Comelade, and The Shadow Ring, a St Vitus' dance and a disembodied rave, slow-burning dub and digital crackle, electronic no-wave and jumble sale tech. Too subtle to jerk about on the BPM assembly line, her music is etched upon a backdrop behind which an old piano is hidden, dusty and busted. The only captain of her ship, she uses modest means to fashion cutting edge sound design and summon heavy dancefloor artillery. Stacked with resources and buzzing with a wealth of projects, Claire Gapenne has progressively become one of the most crucial (and jovial) figures of the DIY underground." --Julien Bécourt RIYL: Cabaret Voltaire, Wolf Eyes, Pascal Comelade.

VON SPAR Under Pressure LP
LP version. "It's the terror of knowing what this world is about," David Bowie sang in 1981, backed by Queen. He performed the remarkable feat of taking a song with such lyrics and creating a hit. Von Spar's Under Pressure also knows what this world is about, with its intimidatory posturing, acute social competition and the fight for survival as we enter an age of surveillance capitalism. The music's inherent urgency is in evidence from the very first beat, yet it still appears to float freely, creating space for reflection and self-interrogation. What others call a "band", Von Spar see as a modular system. The creative community of Sebastian Blume, Jan Philipp Janzen, Christopher Marquez, and Phillip Tielsch is in a state of constant flux. Von Spar is an interface, providing access to rediscovery and fresh experience of, to all intents and purposes, the familiar. Under Pressure is their fifth album, not counting their homage to Can (recorded live with Stephen Malkmus). 15 years have passed since their debut Die Uneingeschränkte Freiheit Der Privaten Initiative (2004), five since Streetlife (2014). On closer examination, there is a chameleonesque quality to Von Spar's discography. Their records are the result of continuous metamorphosis, opening wormholes to post punk, krautrock and '80s art pop. The constants: rhythmic refinement and harmonic quantum leaps, swirling synthesizer arpeggios, backwards guitars with no hint of retrogradation. The eight songs on Under Pressure were recorded in Von Spar's Dumbo Studio in Cologne, with various guests from adding noteworthy contributions. As on Streetlife, the formative voice belongs to Chris A. Cummings aka Marker Starling. His distinctive falsetto graces over half of the songs, asking: "Is there a cure for this/Unhappiness, happiness?" On the opening track, Cummings is joined by Eiko Ishibashi (Kafka's Ibiki, Jim O'Rourke, Merzbow) in a Japanese dream sequence exploring where they might get to if the shackles of the flesh are cast off. Punk and reggae professor Vivien Goldman (The Flying Lizards) picks up the thread and liberates herself from the ghosts of the past on "Boyfriends (Dead Or Alive)". Lætitia Sadier (Stereolab) sings on the album's kraut-pop hit "Extend The Song" which could run and run for ever, powered by motoric energy: "If someone would ask me/Could I go on?" Less answers, more questions -- this is the song's greatest leitmotif. It is left to low-fi maverick R. Stevie Moore to pose the question on "Falsetto Giuseppe" "Should I worry?" Of course!" --Arno Raffeiner

SAINT-JAMES In The Red Volume 1 & 2 CD
Parisian label Chuwanaga announce the final volume of the In The Red compilation series with this CD, bringing together Volume 1 and 2. In The Red Volume 1 & 2 is an in depth musical focus on the Britfunk genre -- or British jazz-funk -- mainly produced in London between the end of the '70s and the '80s. Back in the days, it defined a unique mix of jazz-funk and disco including reggae and dub techniques from Afro-Caribbean communities who were at the heart of the movement. These young musicians gave their music a unique British flavor and raw energy pushing the needle "In The Red". Almost four decades later on these powerful tracks are again ready to burn up dancefloors. Parisian DJ, activist, and producer Saint-James has selected the most exciting, rare and powerful tracks from that era (1980-1988). Expect powerful synth solos, crazy slap bass grooves, lovely vocals on the top, strong and melodic horn sections. The CD features also an insert with photos and interviews of different members of the bands featured here. Feature Equa, Congress, Potion, Inch By Inch, Index, Spookey, Stikki Stuff, Cruzial, The Breakfast Band, Yeow Band, and Scratch (Gonzalez).

RESIDENTS, THE Eskimo: Deconstructed (40th Anniversary Set) 2LP+CD
"To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Eskimo, The Residents present a unique collection of the album's constituent parts, and encourage their public to remix and rework the album. Including over seventy individual musical elements, chants, loops and sound effects recorded on location by the group in the mid-late 1970s, plus a backing CD of Arctic wind noise, this remarkable set provides unprecedented insight into the three years' recording and construction of a legendary album, and an opportunity for fans to 'walk around inside a masterpiece, the viewing angles almost infinite'. Conceived by The Residents partly in response to their satisfaction with the successful I AM A RESIDENT project and their fans' musical abilities, and with their own love of interfering with the music of their heroes in mind, Eskimo (Deconstructed) represents a first. Never before has a band peeled back the layers of one of their finest works in such microscopic detail, and made those highly intimate elements available to the public to re-interpret as they choose. Sure, it's a classic, and this is undoubtedly sacrilege, but consider this a chance to screw with The Residents' music just like they've been screwing with everybody else's for almost fifty years now. Eskimo (Deconstructed) is the latest in a series of archival Residents reissues that will continue throughout 2019 and beyond."

SPACE CATS Something New LP
"After the phenomenal response to our previous survey of disco and boogie sounds from early eighties South Africa, we decided to wade a bit deeper into the pool to focus on one of the most compelling acts to emerge from that theater, the Space Cats. Hailing from the small, insular music scene in the coal-mining city of Witbank, the Space Cats were a five-man band fronted by singer/bassist Themba 'T'Rex' Mzwakali and singer/guitarist Santy Dladala. Operating as a semi-professional live combo rather than a studio-driven aggregation, they stood out from the slick, highly polished conventions of the day. And when they took the stage they offered a take on disco that was stripped-down, raw, rugged and inspired by Afro-rock groups like Harari and Hedzoleh Soundz. While the Space Cats' moment in the spotlight was short-lived -- the band played together for barely a year before management issues necessitated a breakup -- they managed to produce one endearing document of their brief career. Something New, their first and only album, released in 1981, features ten tracks of jittery, hard-edged disco-boogie-funk that capture the flavor of their performances in the rollicking dancehalls of Witbank. Issued on the tiny Rejoice imprint, Something New had a very limited distribution reach even within South Africa and has remained heard by very few people over the last thirty-eight years. So we're proud to make it available for the first time to the wide audience it surely deserved upon its initial release."

Following the amicable departure of founding member Dave Berk, they welcomed Marty Love as their new drummer. Since then the band have had successful tours of the UK, Germany, Holland and Scandinavia. They've had prestigious slots at Blackpool's famous Rebellion Festival, recorded radio sessions for Marc Riley's BBC 6Music Show, and played a storming set at Damaged Goods 30th Anniversary show at London's Koko last September along with touring with The Damned and a headline Christmas show at The Lexington. A biography of the band is currently being written. More details to follow on that nearer to publication date. There's even talk of gigs in the US and Japan in the not too distant future. Fingers crossed eh So what can we tell you about the new LP? Well it has 14 tracks including recent sold out single 'Catatonic'. There's a guest appearance from none other than Captain Sensible, a longtime friend and champion of the band. The original Mopeds Johnny and Slimy Toad have been joined by long time members, Jacko Pistorious, Rock N Roll Robot (also know as Rob from legendary Ska/Punk band 'Case') and Marty Love for the new album. KERRIDGE & TAYLOR BURCH, SAMUEL The Other 2LP
Sam Kerridge teams up with DVA Damas' Taylor Burch in The Other, a narrative-structured collaboration set to an absorbing contrast of seething electronics and technoid impulses riddled by droll vocals in billowing negative space. Opening his sound up to mutual spirits, and allowing more space and time for his sounds to take hold, The Other locates a newfound sense of maturity and sensuality in Kerridge's music. His arrangements here feel more layered and ductile, finely consolidating the gloomy slow pressure of his earliest work for Horizontal Ground with the uptick in pace and rabid energy found on The Silence Between Us (LIN 076EP, 2017) and The I Is Nothing (LIN 078EP, 2018). The adaptation is necessary as the music now accounts for half of an AV live project with Daisy Dickinson and also needs to accommodate Taylor Burch's low key vocal delivery. In the process Kerridge is pushed to rethink and more subtly reframe his sound after seven years squashing and pummelling listeners into submission. As Taylor takes center stage in the narrator's role, Kerridge becomes a kinetic presence, either navigating her through the tightest channels between industrial techno, depth charge drum and bass, and dark ambient, or setting her in the starkest sonic lighting and backdrops like a dramaturgist watching from the wings. Kerridge's impulses are still aggressive, but he's clearly taken the opportunity to step back, review his sound, and recalibrate the mechanics, returning industrial music back to a multi-sensory conception of theater. Thus, The Other, rather than being straight-up sensory immolation -- which is still key to his music -- is tempered and balanced with more complex ideas in mind. From the hybrid of icy vox with billowing tech-step bass and scudding percussion in the opening piece, through the finely-executed nods to classic mid '90s Autechre and AFX in Transmission 5, to the hyper, side-winding brilliance and synapse-firing intensity of the final Transmission 7, longer term followers of Kerridge's work will be rewarded in spades with this thistly bouquet, while newcomers will be left reeling and sure to dive into his swelling catalogue. Mastered and cut to vinyl at Dubplates and Mastering, Berlin. Edition of 500.

IL CIVETTO Facing The Wall 2LP
Double LP version. Global pop with a meaning -- that's Il Civetto. Ever since the release of their in 2015, the fan base of Il Civetto has grown steadily. Word has got around that Il Civetto concerts are rousing and magical, an ecstatic modern musical experience, never too brute, always danceable -- in a concert hall, just like on record. After several tours in Germany with a total of more than 300 concerts, appearances at MS Dockville, the Fusion Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, the 3000°, or at the Anti-G20 Protests in Hamburg, the band now inspires an international audience from Istanbul to Copenhagen. Il Civetto's journey began using guerrilla tactics in the Berlin subway in 2010: Playing in the train and shaking the wagon. Bribing the securities with kebab to play longer. Growing up in Berlin's club scene with appearances in Kater Holzig, Ritter Butzke, or Sisyphos, the band scores an impressive success story. And now album number two: Facing The Wall. Written in Morocco, Greece, and Andalusia, sung in English, German, and French, recorded in Berlin -- Il Civetto have carried their ecstatic-magical playground from the stage to the studio a second time with great attention to detail. The dreamy lightness of the self-titled debut album has given way to hard reality: Facing The Wall is a deeply touching fragment of our time. The expression of a generation in upheaval, searching. An album between euphoria and melancholy -- wallowing, sweating, dancing -- with a tingling belly and wide-open eyes. Il Civetto have become more serious, somehow more real, and yet have retained their very own, characteristic sound. Deeply touching, always danceable. "Geld Essen" and Karussell feature Twistah.

BLUE HOUSE Gobstopper LP
Centered around the songs of principal writer James Howard, Blue House's Gobstopper is the compelling and cinematic result of two years work with Ursula Russell (who penned two tracks), Dimitrios Ntontis (Dimi The Greek), legendary producer Capitol K, and a host of other beautiful characters. Recorded at London's vital Total Refreshment Studio, Gobstopper is an album rich in its production, every track delivered with layers of harmony and instrumentation. The cover art is painted by artist, Phillip Reeves, taking Mingus' The Clown (1957) as its starting point. Gobstopper represents an expansion of sound and a widening of subject: it is an album sung from inside the gluttonized belly of up-for-grabs capitalist Britain, swallowing up whatever is in its way: a jukebox on the coast, "see-through wheels on a see-through motorway", Soho square policemen and silent discos. The record roams like a child on a sugar high turning over stones, sometimes finding compassion, sometimes the weird and beautiful, and sometimes just woodlice. Gobstopper narrates the poetic shift: observation and tellings on the experience, emotion when our gaze turns to that curious realm that exists between the day to day living, common need and the conditioned madness of the island of Great Britain.

Jan Jelinek's first LP as Gramm is one of the precious few, and it's obvious from the opener." --AllMusic"Organized in organic structures and minimal movements, the tracks get into utopian states and super-desirable moods, offering superior contentedness and dependable taste of the kind seldom sustained for a whole album. SUNNY, AL Open Up Your Eyes (Remixes) 12"
Following the acclaimed first album of Al Sunny released in 2017 (FVR 134LP), Favorite Recordings present this single remix package of "Open Up Your Eyes". One of the highlights of Al's first album was the track "Open Up Your Eyes", which disclosed the premise of Al Sunny music style, infused with blue-eyed-soul, pop, and folk. On the A side, Bruno "Patchworks" Hovart delivers again a hot soulful/disco version of the song with his famous touch. As for the B side, Favorite asked the Canadian producer Jex Opolis, with a disco style slightly more oriented in electronic and house vibes.

Chambray and long-time Figure-affiliate Truncate pair up for exciting floor-killers, then Biri goes out with some fresh techno takes. "No Stress" flings things in all directions with an unpredictable, spiraling power work-out. "Trax 4 The Club" pays homage to the its heritage, but shoots way beyond the treaded template. Biri deploys his rigid style of layering sounds which he makes seem fluid and lively. The meticulously shaped Arps on "Snox101" stays a constant thriller, while "Through The Fields" becomes an ambient-leaning excursion through time and space, opening up the body and mind.

CIANI, SUZANNE Buchla Concerts 1975 LP
2019 repress. The lost synth manifesto that could have changed the course of electronic music history by the first lady of modular synth history, Suzanne Ciani. Buchla Concerts 1975 is an archival project that not only redefines musical history but boasts genuine claim to such overused buzzwords as pioneering, maverick, experimental, groundbreaking, and esoteric, while questioning social politics and the evolution of music technology as we've come to understand it. To describe this record as a game-changer is an understatement. This record represents a musical revolution, a scientific benchmark, and a trophy in the cabinet of counterculture creativity. This record is a triumphant yardstick in the synthesizer space race and the untold story of the first woman on the proverbial moon. While pondering the early accolades of this record it's daunting to learn that this record was in fact not a record at all . . . it was a manifesto and a gateway to a new world that somehow never quite opened. In 1975, Suzanne Ciani was a 29-year-old employee of the Buchla modular synthesizer company, San Francisco's neck-and-neck contender with New York's Moog. If the unfamiliar, modernistic, melodic pulses, tones, and harmonics found on this 1975 live presentation/grant application/educational demonstration had been placed in a phonographic context, they would have provided nothing short of an entirely different, feminine take on the experimental records of Morton Subotnick and proved to a small, judgmental audience and jury the true versatility of one of the most radical and idiosyncratic musical instruments of the 20th century. In denouncing her own precocious, polymathematic past in a bid to persuade the world to sing from a new hymn sheet, Suzanne Ciani created a byproduct of never-before-heard music that would render the pigeonholes "ambient" and "futuristic" utterly inadequate. These recordings have not been heard since then. Needless to say, this record, finally commanding the archival format of choice, was not the last "first" that this hugely important composer would gift to society and the future, in a wide range of exciting, evolving creative disciplines in the worlds of synth design, advertising, and film composition. You have found a holy grail of electronic music and a female musical pioneer who was too proactive to take the trophies. You can't write history when you are too busy making it. With fresh ink in the bottomless well, let's start at the beginning. Again. You are invited.

HANCOCK, HERBIE Dedication LP
RSD 2019 release. "Never before released on vinyl outside of japan. Packaged with a full-color obi-strip. Dedication by Herbie Hancock is an anomalous entry in the discography of the revered jazz-fusion keyboardist. The album was recorded over the course of a single day, in the middle of a tour of Japan at Koseinekin Hall in Tokyo, and for years would be available exclusively in Japan. Produced a month ahead of his 1974 studio album Thrust, the follow-up to his career-defining album Head Hunters, Dedication's tracks were noteworthy for how drastically different they were from the material that followed. Gone was the dangerously funked-out rhythm section goodness of the Headhunters; instead Hancock is alone, performing four solo pieces on grand piano, electric keys, and synthesizer. Side one features Hancock at his most introspective, featuring romantic, ballad-like takes on two of his 60s pieces: 'Maiden Voyage', and 'Dolphin Dance.' Side two, on the other hand, is almost a polar opposite, utilizing early techno rhythms through Fender Rhodes electric keyboards, and the sample-and-hold features of the ARP 2600 synthesizer, rendering spacey, exploratory jams such as the original track 'Nobu', and an electro-funky take on 'Cantaloupe Island'. (Two tracks which predicted Hancock's eventual electro-funk dominance in the 1980s.) A unique and momentous obscurity of Herbie Hancock's catalog, Dedication has never seen a vinyl release outside of Japan prior to now. Nearly 30 years later, Get On Down has sought to allay that, with a premium-grade Record Store Day reissue worthy of any jazz collector's archives, or any crate digger's armament."

GHOSTFACE KILLAH Bulletproof Wallets 2LP
Repressed; Originally released in 2001. "How could an artist follow up a record as solid as Supreme Clientele - Ghostface Killah answers that question - in sound - on Bulletproof Wallets. The release reunites GFK with his partner in rhyme Raekwon and continues Ghost's winning streak of delivering front to back classic material. Filled with the usual Ghost slang and bass heavy production, Bulletproof Wallets is the follow up Supreme Clientele deserved, delivered without skipping a beat. The fun Ghost & Rae are having on this record is beyond apparent. Bulletproof Wallets is almost like a party album, packed with hit singles and street bangers. 'Never Be the Same Again' (with Carl Thomas & Raekwon) and 'Ghost Showers' play alongside 'Maxine' and 'The Forrest' all working off each other's energy. Other stand outs like 'Walking through the Darkness', & 'The Hilton' all bang through the speakers and continue to add to Ghost's undeniable catalog. Backed up by groundbreaking production from The RZA, Alchemist, Carlos '6 July' Broady and Mathematics, Ghostface shines and the chemistry between Rae and GFK is incredible!"

Heist showcases young Dutch talent with its latest release: Perdu. Skye EP includes three varied originals and a rave anthem made by none other than the fun-loving Ozzie DJ Boring. The A side kicks off with "Jane's World" and is the track that made the label fall in love with this EP. It's a worldly tinged house monster, filled with harmonized drum rolls, a counting Frenchman and a funky arpeggio for good measure. The three originals are quite introverted and modest; DJ Boring's remix is anything but that. His version of "Jane's World" is all about ravey leads, powerful percussion and huge breakdowns.

SNOW GHOSTS A Quiet Ritual CD
Centering on the theme of death, A Quiet Ritual seeks to process the shock and grief of bereavement and its aftermath, as well as casting back across history and other cultures for their own metaphors and coping strategies. Snow Ghosts explain, "A Quiet Ritual maps out stages of the grieving process and how every individual deals with it in their own unique way. Most importantly how they handle their own heart and the other fragile hearts inevitably scattered around them. The song 'Rip' is about the initial shock of grief, the effect it has on loved ones and the untimely destruction of dreams." Recorded in a castle in the countryside and two years in the making, A Quiet Ritual is written for an ensemble of classical and modern instruments including the carnyx, an Iron Age Celtic boar-headed horn excavated from a bog in Deskford, Scotland. For the carnyx, they enlisted the services of John Kenny, one of just a few musicians able to play the instrument and the first to do so in modern times. The mix of instruments is indicative of the idiosyncratic timelessness common to this album and all of their previous works: having had a historical context present on their previous albums, the inclusion of the carnyx ties the release together, combining ritualistic themes with an instrument commonly used in rituals or as an offering in ancient culture. CD version comes in gatefold sleeve.Snow Ghosts are Ross Tones, Hannah Cartwright, and Oliver Knowles. Formed in 2008, their musical interests reside in our own time, the beginning of time and all points between. The trio explore the complex weave of the eternal, love, death and nature through the contemporary mediums of genres spanning electronica, post-rock and heavier sounds to create an immersive, physical ambience.

DJ MARCELLE/ANOTHER NICE MESS One Place For The First Time LP
Calling Marcelle a DJ doesn't wholly represent what she's doing. (Three) turntables and a mixer is more the medium that she uses to create and share sounds, ideas, and moments. The same goes for her own productions. They don't have a fixed style, as can be heard on all five EPs released by the Munich label Jahmoni since 2016. They are free in attitude and music and cross boundaries between genres. Most tracks are a collision of ideas, a magically gritty, self-aware car crash, as if Muslimgauze grew up in sunny Lisbon with the Príncipe crew as opposed to the grim North of England. On her new LP One Place For The First Time, you'll find nine tracks brimming with ideas that ignore stale production norms. Sure, the pulsing drum 'n' bass-esque "Hippies Use Side Door" is weirdly danceable, just like the cackling stomp of "Respect Caged Animals", but can you dance to "Technicians And Their Smoke Machines"? (Answer: You'd certainly enjoy trying). It's almost a jazz song, but like with everything Marcelle does, it's jazz from a different world and has proven to be a dancefloor smash when she's played out the dubplate over recent months. Marcelle's life-long love for far-out dub is clear in "Dub (Dub)" and "Respect My Snack Foods" is in the same "educational" tradition as was the song about how to deal with constipation (olive oil!) from the 2018 Psalm Tree EP (JMM 209EP). "The Mother Of All Messes" (a UK newspaper headline about Brexit) introduces perhaps a more tender side, a comforting nursery rhyme plays while a muffled kick occasionally growls with distortion. "Don't Touch The Table!" This particular sample is taken from Marcelle's legendary Boiler Room performance at 2018's Nyege Nyege Festival in Uganda where the MC of the event repeatedly declares that "She Plays Vinyl" and therefore asks "Don't Touch The Table!". It goes without saying that the latter song is full of banging on the table noises. Marcelle is a genuine innovator who remains inherently relevant by not following trends, not focusing on technicalities, having a sense of humor, dissolving obsolete structures, being excited, defying others rules while creating new ones, eschewing #tagline posers and "tasteless A&R wankers", supporting artists that need it, supporting places that need it, supporting people who need it and not giving a fuck for as long as possible.

EMERSON If You Need Me, Call Me LP
Kalita Records release for the first time Emerson's mythical 1988 unreleased boogie masterpiece If You Need Me, Call Me, accompanied by extensive interview-based liner notes and never-before-seen photos. If You Need Me, Call Me includes both the issue and unreleased demo versions of Emerson's extremely sought-after single "Sending All My Love Out", originally privately released and distributed in 1988 in a run of just 500 copies on LAS Records. Although "Sending All My Love Out" arguably failed at the time to receive the recognition that it deserved, since release the single's desirability has increased exponentially, and is now highly sought-after by collectors and DJs alike who find themselves spending eye-watering prices to secure their own copy. The musical product of the visionary couple Emerson and Leora Sandidge, If You Need Me, Call Me is a personal collection of synthesizer and drum-machine-led boogie of the highest quality. Recorded over the space of just one week at Real To Reel Studios in Stockbridge, Georgia, Emerson and Leora intended to release If You Need Me, Call Me as a follow-up to "Sending All My Love Out". However, due to familial responsibilities and health complications the album was never released to the public, and the original master tapes have remained locked away until now. In partnership with Emerson and Leora, Kalita Records now think it high time to satisfy the demand and to share this masterpiece with the world.

LATEEF, YUSEF Hikima: Creativity LP
Key System Recordings present a reissue of Yusef Lateef's Hikima: Creativity, originally released in 1983. In the early 1980s, famed jazz saxophonist and musical luminary Yusef Lateef traveled to Nigeria as a Senior Research Fellow to study, write, and teach at Ahmadu Bello University. He cut this record while there; pressed locally in Nigeria, it remained virtually unknown by jazz fans and collectors for over 30 years. On Hikima, Lateef leads a nonet of African musicians in seven compositions that fuse his deep blues and jazz roots with native Nigerian instruments, drums and chants. The sounds stretch from meditative and melancholic to urgent and unrelenting. A singular recording impossible to classify or box in. Lovingly pressed to vinyl by Key System Recordings, a new imprint dedicated to progressive and underground music of all types helmed by Jonathan Sklute, founder of NYC vinyl boutique Good Records. Officially licensed through the Lateef estate. Restored and remastered by Jessica Thompson. Pressed at RTI; sleeve done at Dorado; initial edition of 800.

JAEGER, KASSEL Le Lisse Et Le Strie LP
"A new work by François J. Bonnet -- the director of INA GRM -- deconstructing the binarity 'smooth' and 'striated'. 'If 'smooth' is linked to 'nomos', within an open space of organic distribution, then 'striated' is associated with 'logos', as a kind of gridded enclosure. An interplay is mapped out, whereby pulsations become textures and layers, and where rhythmic elements are teased from the qualities and densities of sounds, rather than deployed as pre-determined sound objects in their own right, abstracted and frozen onto a temporal grid. 'Striation' is made audible only through the sonic landscape it inhabits, in the same way that animal camouflage comes alive in the woods and long grass, becoming redundant and inert out in the open.'"

London Records present a limited-edition vinyl boxset of Blancmange's first three albums: Happy Families (1982), Mange Tout (1984), and Believe You Me (1985). Each release includes the original album (remastered), plus B-sides, extended versions, remixes, previously unreleased tracks and demos. Happy Families, released in 1982, feels like a fully-formed electronic pop classic. Highlights include "Living On The Ceiling" (a striking #7 hit in '82 thanks to its mix of electronics with tabla and sitar), the melancholia of "Waves", the call-and-response electro-funk of "Feel Me", the intense "I Can't Explain", and "God's Kitchen", which is an early example of Neil Arthur's gift with images and wordplay. Blancmange's second album, Mange Tout, reached #8 in the UK charts in 1984 and spawned more hits -- notably "Blind Vision" (#10), "Don't Tell Me" (#8), and their fantastic cover of ABBA's "The Day Before You Came" (much loved by ABBA who let them use footage from their original video for the Blancmange promo). It signals another change for the band's music, now increasingly built around deep, propulsive dance grooves. The third and final Blancmange album of the 1980s, Believe You Me, was released in 1985 and features bitter-sweet pop songs such as "Lose Your Love", "Don't You Love It All", and "What's Your Problem". Remastered audio; vinyl boxset with artwork slipcase holding all three albums; each album is a double 12" on black vinyl, and comes in gatefold sleeve with printed inner-sleeves; download card included."Listening to Blancmange obsessively. GLOVE No Blades No Bones 10"
10" version. "The songs follow no rules. There are no reference points. It's utterly original. You type out words like Patti Smith or The Slits but that's lazy old man thinking." --John RobbWhen John Robb saw Glove (from Liverpool) play a year ago he was blown away. "It's impossible to see anything as vibrant or totally original as this but Glove are captivating, fiercely intelligent and can turn any room into a physical and mental hoe down. With the same sort of poetic skree as primetime Patti Smith that makes you think and feel alive and minimalist stripped down music played on one bass and one tom they deliver an invigorating set of emotions and I knew I had to release this their debut EP which I also produced." Glove is collaboration between artists SloSilver and Stephanie Finegan. It flowed forth that now is the time for Glove. And so, from one sleepy jam, 12 songs were born."When you have been to thousands of gigs but still retain the hunger for the new, a rare WTF moment is worth a million dollars. Every now and then, at one of these music showcase events, you see band that changes your life. Again. A mesmerising, talismanic piece of magic that is beyond. Glove is that band. Two wild painted women who turn music inside out and reinvent the wheel. Stunning. We walk into the back room of one pub to see our first band and our minds are blown by Glove -- nothing is going to match these two wired women who are oozing art, poetry and a musical brilliance that sets your mind racing and your heart pounding. There's is a stripped-down basic sound -- rhythm comes from a pounding tom tom played against a bass or in other songs a scratchy guitar. It's pounding and highly effective -- most of the songs are given a running bass line backbone and the minimalistic, no wave combination is perfect for the poetry in motion of the vocals that switch between volumes of wild-eyed beat poetry and stunningly sung vocal lines." --Louder Than War"Something entirely revolutionary. Minds were blown." --Drowned In Sound

ARIWO Quasi 2LP
Quasi is Ariwo's second album, after the release of their first self-titled album in 2017 (MANANA 002CD). Despite Ariwo's diverse mix of musicians (Cuba/Iran/Canada/UK) their music doesn't belong to any specific genre. In Quasi, Ariwo use the building blocks of deep bass, Afro-Cuban polyrhythms, carnival melody, and immersive live electronics as a starting point to engage with key players on London's jazz scene. The result is a hypnotic journey for the listener from techno to avant-garde jazz via West Africa and the Caribbean. Quasi aims to mirror the evolved direction of Ariwo's live set, which after extensive touring over the past three years has gradually become more stripped back and club-oriented. Many of the building blocks for this album started life as improvisations in live sets and have been developed into full tracks on Quasi. The album features guest appearances from MOBO winning saxophonist Binker Golding (Binker & Moses) and acclaimed UK keys player Joe Armon-Jones. Cuban trumpet players Thommy Lowry Garcia and Yelfris Valdes also feature on the album, bringing carnival melodies that interweave through the percussion and electronics. Ariwo have used songs from Quasi to create the music for Portals, a tour of Carlos Acosta's new contemporary dance company Acosta Danza in Havana.

HAMILTON, THOMAS Pieces For Kohn LP
Mental Experience present the first ever vinyl reissue of Thomas Hamilton's Pieces For Kohn, originally released in 1976. Pieces For Kohn, as the title suggests, included four electronic pieces composed by Tom Hamilton as musical responses to 3D geometric paintings by artist Bill Kohn. A renowned audio producer and electronic composer, among other many things, you've probably have seen Tom Hamilton's name in the credits of many albums by Robert Ashley and on releases from labels like Lovely Music, Pogus Productions, New World Records, etc, Tom was first introduced to electronic music in 1965, while he was an undergraduate in Milwaukee, thanks to a lecture by Vladimir Ussachevsky illustrated with examples of electronic composers of the day: Bülent Arel, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Pierre Henry, Milton Babbitt. Encouraged by his teacher, Thom David Mason, Tom started to build audio circuits and battery-operated boxes that produced or modified sounds. In 1969, Tom moved to St. Louis. After graduating at Washington University, he was offered a job to design, purchase, and build an electronic music and recording studio there. He now had continuing access to commercially built synthesizers and by the mid-1970s, Tom found that working with electronic music was more satisfying to him than other musical endeavors. The idea for the Pieces For Kohn album came from a studio visit with St. Louis artist Bill Kohn. Tom was an admirer of his work, which combined vibrant color combinations to fulfill 3D geometric and architectural compositions in paintings, prints, and watercolors. Bill proposed that Tom composed music for his art exhibition opening at a famous St. Louis gallery and Tom decided to simultaneously release that work on LP. Tom picked four of the paintings that he liked the most and titled his four pieces correspondingly. The recording took place at the Washington University Electronic Music/Recording Studio -- the studio that Tom designed and first built in 1971 and then moved and rebuilt in 1974 (where it resides to date). The original tapes were performed at the opening of Bill Kohn's exhibit at the Terry Moore Gallery in St. Louis, in January, 1976 and then Tom did a limited pressing of the album on his own label, Somnath Records. Spaced-out bleeps and bloops, and wild ARP synth freak-outs make up this cult electronic album '70s. RIYL: Terry Riley, Morton Subotnick, Vladimir Ussachevsky. Fresh from Pedro Vian's full LP release, here are club ready remixes of "Flexible Girl" and "Darwin's Nightmare". These are remixes made with the dancefloor in mind. The "Flexible Girl" remixes come from Chicago's renowned sound sculptor Hieroglyphic Being who supplies a key led version, Barcelona based Cardopusher with an '80s bass-driven revision and a submerged acid remix from Portuguese producer Da Silva. The remix of "Darwin's Nightmare" is a trippy version by legendary Ukrainian producer Vakula.

SLATER, LUKE Love Remixes 2LP
Released on Luke Slater's iconic Freek Funk album on NovaMute (1997) -- one of the most seminal techno albums of the '90s -- "Love" finally gets the remix treatment it deserves more than two decades after its initial release. Leading the charge, Burial makes one of his rare appearances on remix duties and doesn't disappoint with an atmospheric and mesmerizing reimagining with an aesthetic reminiscent of Untrue (2007). Lucy then reels out a deep-diving techno roller with precision kicks and tantalizing melodies. Luke Slater then adopts The 7th Plain moniker for a collage of sound extending past the 15-minute mark, before upping the energy with a moody reverberating number as Planetary Assault Systems. Marcel Dettmann provides two takes on "Love"; his "City" remix features a cacophony of metallic rhythm, ebbing pads, and plenty of swing whilst mantra-like vocals operate throughout, followed by the thudding "Black Glove" remix with its murky tones and rattling effects. Cascading drums and lively trumpets next in Silent Servant's upbeat and infectious take.

Bougaïeff's interpretation on Permutation Djinn attempts to translate the stages of Egan's novel into music while respecting the constraints of making club friendly tracks. The opener "Woke Up As A Copy" is an expansive track with Blade Runner-esque metallic reverberations. "Panic Time Tryout" is a peak-time cut, fostering the futurist atmosphere with an unsettling melody. "Little Djinn" is the most frenetic of the tracks whilst "No Escape" takes it back to peak time with resounding drums and drills.

LA BATTERIA II (Clear Vinyl) 2LP
Double LP version. Limited edition clear vinyl; Gatefold sleeve. Four years since their first self-titled release (PNY 3304CD/LP, 2015), La Batteria, one of the most brilliant Italian bands in the field of instrumental music, are back with their brand new second album. Seventy minutes of music spanning 18 tracks released on Penny Records. Against the rules of today's market and more in the '70s classic rock tradition, here is a consistent double-album carrying both the band's typical cinematic atmospheres and the four members individual experiences and personal taste. It's a sort of musical journey where different ages and genres melt together within the Roman band's unique style. Through the various tracks you can easily find the complex writing of Fonderia (the other band of members Bultrini, Vicarelli, and Pecorelli) and the peculiar rhythmic groove of Nerattini's hip-hop productions, and the endless cross-contamination coming from their common project of the Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio. Prog-rock, funk, hip-hop, classical music, electronics, Latin grooves, Italo-disco, psychedelia, and hard rock, all perfectly melt together in a fascinating new work which places the band in the great Italian tradition of music for images, luckily far from being a mere copy of an unrepeatable age. "Listening to 'Chimera' by La Batteria: authentic, cinematic, beautiful." --Barry Adamson

FROHLICH, BENJAMIN Amiata 2LP
Benjamin Fröhlich has struck many chords in the arena of electronic music: as a party organizer and record shop owner in his early days, and now as a label owner, DJ, and producer. He is the co-founder of Permanent Vacation Records together with Tom Bioly, which has been up and running since the tropical summer of 2006. Emerging from the vibrant cosmic disco and Balearic scene, Permanent Vacation has been going strong over the past decade with genre-defining hits, albums, and compilations. Fröhlich and Bioly have worked together with the household names of the international electronic dance scene. They have scouted artists like John Talabot, Todd Terje, Tensnake, and Mano Le Tough early in their careers and released their breakthrough records. On top of his dedication to explore and feature rising as well as accomplished artists, Benjamin Fröhlich himself has emerged as a producer of vibrant tracks that are testament to his versatile and compelling approach to club music. His 12-inches, which were well received by DJs and clubbers alike, are accompanied by acclaimed remixes including his Tuff City Kids rework, which made it on Roman Flügel's Fabric mix (FABRIC 189CD, 2017). Now his first album is ready to go! Amiata is a conglomerate of Benjamin Fröhlich's longstanding experience. Just like his DJ sets and work for PV, each of the album's tracks expresses a different facet of his musical preferences. While keeping it under the roof of Benjamin's specific sound, the tracks range from dub hybrids to Italo, disco, and boogie inspired tracks, '90s spacy breakbeats, and electro to classic house ("Last Night" features rising US artist Dreamcast). It is an in-depth exploration of his background and Benjamin Fröhlich's passion to combine the unforgettable past and the gripping present with the tunes of tomorrow.

SELDA Selda LP
Restocked. LP version. Housed in a gatefold sleeve; with liner notes insert. Imagine if Julia Child had marched against Vietnam, stood on the steps of the Pentagon, and placed a flower in a gun barrel. Selda Ba?can's later records have that same cross of easygoing motherly warmth and righteous anger. This 1979 album (technically her fourth, although six of these songs were also released on her third), was recorded when Turkey was at its most politically polarized. Selda was sentenced to a total of over 500 years in prison right about the time it came out. A pile of acoustic guitars and ba?lamas all going off at once under a blanket of reverb, with lyrics about blood, wood, mountains, families, and desperate troubles, so it's a thick squirt for a folk album. Selda's voice can either be sultry or really surge with emotion, and when she does belt one, it's oddly high and completely unique. Her reward was the love of Turkey's people, but also nine trials and three prison terms from the right wing military government of the '80s.

NOYES, ROB The Feudal Spirit LP
Second edition, with watercolor paper tip-on sleeve glued to heavy board. Jackets printed by Stoughton Printing Company. "Rob Noyes has been on the Eastern Massachusetts scene for a while, but what we've heard him play is music from within the context of electric bands, most of whom are loud as hell and exist somewhere along the rim of the post-core continuum. More recently, Rob has taken to displaying his solo acoustic guitar chops and they are massive. The Feudal Spirit is the first vinyl evidence of their 'shoulders.' Like Western Mass's Tony Pasquarosa, who mines the same widely-variant style-pits, Rob's approach to acoustic playing resembles his electric work only through shared-belief-in-a-strong-downstroke. On the way to developing his own compositional/performance approach, Noyes sometimes seems to have absorbed an almost infinite reservoir of influences. Apart from some superb Basho-like 12-string tunneling, most momentary fragments tend to recall legendary Limeys like John Renbourn (and through him, Davey Graham), because Rob's overt melodic structures tend towards the non-bluesoid. But then you'll maybe hear a note-sequence spiced like something dropped from the hot strings of Michael Chapman or even a powerful throng that makes you think of Wizz Jones. When that happens, you realize there's more of a blues base to some of the songs than you'd been able to untangle. Mr. Noyes hits a vast array of sub-genres on this album, and he hits them all pretty damn hard. Rob's playing carries the weight of many possibly-imaginary forebears, but the way he smears them all together shows a holistic mastery of touch and imagination that defies a lot of today's players, who tend to shine in short bursts, then allow their dreams to outrun their technique. Rob Noyes has no such apparent limitations. Like Raymond Pettibon, whose artwork graces The Feudal Spirit's cover, Rob's able to create a true form-gobble, making some real beautiful noise in the process. Around the world, licensed Hodologists whisper, 'Make mine Noyes.' Why don't you join them?" --Byron Coley, October 23rd, 2016, South Deerfield, MA. Cover art by Raymond Pettibon. TITO, PUTO Carregando A Vida Atras Das Costas 2LP
Hot out of Lisbon's ghetto sprawl, 19 year-old Puto Tito breaks through on Príncipe with tracks produced when he was barely into his teens, all salvaged from an old Soundcloud account and newly remastered for the dance. The sound of Carregando A Vida Atrás Das Costas is patently influenced by Tito's Angolan heritage, and faithfully employs the popular slow Tarraxho and tougher Kuduro rhythm styles. Yet, like the best of Príncipe's releases, it's the way he injects a playful, weirdo character and uncompromising, psychedelic vision to his tracks that sets Tito's music apart from the crowd, whilst being very much connected to it. With a direct fervor and naturally experimental quality to his productions, the album scales from drowsy, red-eyed, to brightly-colored downbeats on one hand, while charging into jagged and nagging up-tempo styles on the other hand. But whichever way he goes, it's always with an off-the-cuff flair and rhythm-lead dynamic that works the dance to its best. The present double LP highlights the full spectrum of Puto Tito's early remit, diving in with the dark-side drone and rasping rhythm of "Noite Magica," to swerve from the celebratory, drop-top cruise of "Mestre Das Artes" through to wickedly screwed Tarraxho in "Malucao" and the deadpan drag of "1 2 3," while he can hardly suppress his brilliant, weirdo tendencies in the zig-zagging arps of "C L Prod", the heat-warped funk of "OIHo JoOnAe," and the heat-sick, syrupy pressure of "Locura Tutal." Tito's arguably and understandably naif approach speaks to an ideal of dance music as punkish, fresh and direct, rather than overworked and generic. It's an approach that, in the past, has yielded some of the finest underground music, from the UK's early '90s hardcore and jungle, to South Africa's Gqom scene, Chicago footwork and the Singeli sound of Dar-Es-Salaam. More specifically, it's possible to place Puto Tito in the same dare-to-be-different, bedroom producer category of grimy Kuduro, Batida and Afrohouse as young heroes Nídia or P.Adrix, as Carregando A Vida Atrás Das Costas vividly demonstrates.

This is the absolute holy grail for Social Distortion fans and it's finally available in commercial form. Includes two bonus tracks."Of the three teenagers who recorded for me, one has died, another was believed to be dead and one became immensely wealthy from playing music. The one who did hard time in prison was not Mike Ness. It was the drummer Carrot, better known as John Stevenson, now living a very ordinary life in rural Florida. I now count John as a dear friend. Apparently, he was only 16 years old when he rolled into the studio that day in April 1981, armed with a taped-up pair of drumsticks. He played great as did both Mike and Dennis (RIP). This time there was no fighting in the studio over production values. I had promised Ness that we would not fight so once there was a minor disagreement over the artwork for the proposed 12", I dropped the project in favor of the Playpen/Mainliner 7" which sported iconic artwork from the band." --Robbie Fields, New Year's Day, 2019

"After 4 years of work on their 11th release for ReR, this extraordinary, reclusive, and highly individual audio-visual collective continues to evolve through the painstaking accumulation and disposition of a seemingly incompatible range of both exotic and familiar musical languages, instruments, techniques and studio manipulations into one of the few genuinely original bands at work today. It took a long time to refine their unique process of composition to this level of ambiguity and depth and newcomers will wonder how they strayed so far from orthodoxy and yet managed to retain a lucidity and transparency that is quite rare in contemporary music. The bullet points are that Biota is a unique project, defying genre with, like all such cult artists, a small but extremely dedicated public that, over the last 15 years has grown continuously as new listeners discover them. Founded in Colorado in the late 1970s, Biota's first recordings were released under the name of the Mnemonist Orchestra who, between 1980 and 1984, released five albums on its own label, before linking up with ReR."

The long-awaited follow-up to Osaka's Hibushibire Freak Out Orgasm! debut album from 2017 is here with Turn On, Tune In, Freak Out!. Who are Hibushibire?: 821 on bass, Ryu Matsumoto on drums, and Changchang on guitar and vocals. It would be fair to say Hibushibire's 2017 debut album Freak Out Orgasm! went down well with fans of psych-rock. It garnered quite a few influential underground reviews and seemed to sell through on word of mouth alone. UK-based music blog Dayz Of Purple And Orange said this of their debut: "Fuck me! I think I've died and gone to psychedelic heaven! If anyone had asked me what I would really want from a freak out, heavy-as-fuck psych band I would have to say I would want the sheer guitar pyrotechnics of Acid Mothers Temple, the hard-as-nails scuzziness of The Heads, the lead heaviness of a fucked-up Blue Cheer, and the instrumental dexterity of Hendrix on speed. Guess what, that band exists and they are called Hibushibire!" Their follow-up Turn On, Tune In, Freak Out! is produced again by Makoto Kawabata (Acid Mothers Temple, Mainliner) and it's the next logical step in the band's sonic development. As with its predecessor, side one consists of three tracks, "Ecstasy Highwaystar", "Blow! Blow! Blow!", and "Overdose, Pussycat! More! More!". Some of these titles will be familiar if you've followed the band's live shows in recent times, and it's pretty much a guitar to the front, full gonzo-style hard-rocking psychedelic freak out from the first blast of Changchang's guitar panning from left to right before the main riff kicks it all off. Again, as with their debut, side two comprises of just one epic length track. "Rollercoaster Of The Universe" clocks in at seventeen minutes and is the sound of the band moving onto the next level during its journey. It's a shudderingly beautiful piece, with many hypnotic twists and turns. The band did initially attempt to produce this album by themselves, but got "brain fever" in the studio and called their old friend Makoto to come down and help them finish it off. As he had no preparation in advance, he knew nothing about how the recording was going in the studio, and moreover there was little time left for adjustments to be made. But his technique of mixing was, as always, both mighty and almost destructive.

ELECTRIC FUNERAL The Wild Performance CD
Ear-splitting hard-rock/proto-doom-metal from the early '70s, Electric Funeral were a pioneering Swiss hard-rock band who sadly never registered any studio recordings at the time. Formed in the late '60s by Edi Hirt (drums), Pierrot Wermeille (bass), Alain Christinaz (guitar), and Dominique Bourquin (vocals), they were influenced by bands like Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, and Led Zeppelin. Famous for their loud (they played behind giant stacks of Marshall amps) and powerful shows, their sound was too heavy-sounding for a regular label to offer them a contract. The Wild Performance is made of private live and rehearsal tapes recorded in 1970 -- very raw and lo-fi -- but it's the only testimony of their brutal sound. First released in 1991 as a limited LP, this is an expanded edition with newly remastered sound and four killer bonus tracks, taken from reels and tapes recently found in the band's archives. These tracks were also recorded in 1970 except for "My Destiny", which dates to 1973. The sound is still lo-fi but slightly better than the original tracks, especially on the killer "You Can Help" (proto-punk á la Electric Eels), "My Destiny" and the alternate version of "You Can Help". KINA Cercando LP+CD
Spittle Records present a reissue of Kina's Cercando, originally released in 1986. One year after the release of Kina's first album, Irreale Realtà (SPITTLE 085LP), which was a good proof of the Italian hardcore scene vitality and a confirmation that Kina was definitely one of the most original and creative bands on the European scene, even though 1986 was a transition year. Punk began to lose its energy and while many of the bands from the first wave were gone, Kina decided to work on their second album, and for this they chose a studio owned by a former Hippy' in Aosta. They entered the studio with very clear ideas: Velocity? yes! just a little bit less than before; Melody? yes, and in this case a little more than before; Solos? Sure! and wild too; Short songs? Of course, even if now they feel like trying something different as well. After one month of studio work, they finally got a concise and intense album. Some kind of raw and rusty thing coming from big and extremely loud amps. The new path seems to allow the band to explore new sound territories where a new kind of melodic lines mix up with past experiences and new genres, metal included. It's a sad and dark sounding album including songs which would become classics in the band's repertoire. The front cover has a very strong image, an airbrush, retouched picture by Salvatore Cosentino of an angry homeless person who almost seems coming out of the cover. In 1986, Kina consisted of: Sergio Milani - drums, vocals; Alberto Ventrella - guitar, voice; Gianpiero Capra - bass, vocals. Includes CD.

WIGGS, JOSEPHINE We Fall LP
LP version. Alt-rock icon Josephine Wiggs is best known as bassist in The Breeders, rising to superstardom in the '90s and continuing to draw crowds and critical acclaim in the wake of their 2018 album All Nerve. But over the years, Wiggs has released several of her own albums, all of which delightfully defy genre. Her new solo record, We Fall, is both a departure and a distillation of an enduring personal aesthetic: moody and spare but also melodic, at once contemporary and nostalgic. Some influences are clear: We Fall is reminiscent of the experimentalism of Brian Eno's Another Green World (1975) and recalls the delicate, languid minimalism of Harold Budd. The album's classical inflections, sharpened by a dialog with electronic elements, evoke Alva Noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto. This is an album of juxtapositions: minimalist at moments, richly layered in others; ambient while also sharply focused; melancholy yet resolute. There's something both dreamy and scientific about We Fall. Wiggs, an enthusiastic amateur mycologist, has an impressive collection of mushrooms she's photographed in her travels. We Fall could be the soundtrack to what can't be captured in a single photo -- the growth and decay of miraculous creatures that a less astute and sensitive eye might overlook entirely. Composed, performed, and recorded by Wiggs, with drums and electronics by her longtime friend and collaborator Jon Mattock (Spacemen 3, Spiritualized), We Fall is a lyrical, bucolic album with an undercurrent of disquiet. Think of a wintertime walk in the woods as dusk falls too soon. True to the classic album form, the ten almost entirely instrumental tracks on We Fall form a compelling whole: a crystalline meditation on paths not taken and words unspoken, an elegy for moments lost and last embraces.

GRIOT GALAXY Kins LP
"Griot Galaxy is a 'secret' jewel of Detroit's avant-garde jazz history -- until now. That is to say, they will always be a jewel of Detroit's avant-garde jazz history, their deeply passionate music a testament to experimentation, freedom, and blackness. But with the long-awaited reissue of their first album, the hard-to-find Kins, the secret is out. Griot Galaxy doesn't strictly begin with Kins. It begins with visionary bandleader and saxophonist Faruq Z. Bey's musical and political awakening in the late '60s, when the 1967 Detroit Rebellion was tearing Detroit apart and Coltrane's untimely death was devastating the jazz community. Kins, recorded in 1981 and originally released in 1982, is a masterstroke of creative Detroit jazz. The freeness of the playing is anchored by a serious propensity for rhythm, evident in the way its members layered their collective backgrounds in bebop, funk, reggae, and other styles within the expansive possibility of sonic expression. And all but 200 or so copies of the original 2000 pressed were unintentionally trashed. Griot Galaxy's willingness to push boundaries was as affectionate as it was fearless. Kins is Detroit's post-Coltrane, high-on-Sun-Ra bridge into the '80s. They certainly weren't the first to experiment with polyrhythms, odd meters, and tonal scales beyond the traditional concepts, but it was in part the combination of Shahid and Tabbal's previous experience with Sun Ra, as well as Tabbal's experience with one-time Arkestra trumpeter Phil Cohran, that allowed the group to blossom. Donning silver face paint and spouting poetry on stage, the group gained notoriety for both impressive musicianship and theatrical proto-Afrofuturist flourishes as they played all over town, including Cobb's Corner, a jazz bar in the Cass Corridor. We're lucky that lead engineer Ron DeCorte saved the original master tapes, from which these recordings came. Although most of the wider world didn't get a chance to experience the wonder of Griot Galaxy at the time, we will gloriously, happily, gratefully take what we can get now. Matte direct-to-board LP jacket, standard weight black vinyl."

IZUMI, ATSUSHI Verdigris EP 12"
Verdigris EP from Japanese artist Atsushi Izumi is a deep dive into the crevice of the mind. Izumi's use of long drawn out hallow synths is like an ominous cemetery at night before these powerful percussions detonate in. He uses heavy spaced-out bass drums, either as a single or double beat, which simmer as they echo and roll. They are surrounded by these chaotic, textured synths, which can sound like a cicada, hovering and distorted to give a mechanical effect. A deep and dark techno sound. Features a remix by ANFS.

WAKHEVITCH, IGOR Kshatrya (The Eye Of The Bird) CD
Transversales Disques presents Kshatrya (The Eye Of The Bird), a never released before recording by French avant-garde electronic composer Igor Wakhevitch. Wakhevitch composed a bunch of major experimental albums in the '70s, such as Logos (1970), Docteur Faust (1971), Hathor (1972), Les Fous D'or (1975), Nagual (1977), and Let's Start (1979). During this 10-year period, Wakhevitch was close to Jean-Michel Jarre, Pink Floyd, Soft Machine, and legendary choreographer Maurice Bejart having with him many conversations around dance and music, human body and soul, spiritual path, collective life, new society, and human evolution. As a composer, Igor Wakhevitch collaborated with Salvador Dali, Carolyn Carlson, and Terry Riley, to name a few. He's considered as one of the first French composer using synthesizers like Synthi AKS, ARP2600, or Moog modular systems. After spending almost 30 years in India, Igor Wakhevitch dug in his archives this unreleased work recorded in 1999 on his "Mysterious Island 88" system. Esoteric, sacred, and cosmic, Kshatrya (The Eye Of The Bird) is the logical follow up of Igor's early works and a monumental piece of electronic music. A must! CD version includes a 16-page booklet.

DREXCIYA Harnessed the Storm 2LP
2019 repress. After the re-release of Drexciya's Neptune's Lair (TRESOR 10129CD/LP) and Transllusion's The Opening of the Cerebral Gate (TRESOR 270CD/LP), Harnessed the Storm is the third album in Tresor Records' great Drexciya reissue program. Originally released in 2002, Harnessed the Storm was conceived as the opening chapter of the legendary Seven Storms -- a series of seven albums created within a single year and released via several labels under different names. Harnessed the Storm was the sole one in the series credited under the main Drexciya project. The album, which is considered to be one of the pair's darkest, was produced in a time of creative outbreak and emotional turbulence. The duo's confidence was at a peak, new techniques revolutionized musical production, but the duo also had to face Stinson's severe health issues. This led to a radical shift of pace in producing and releasing music. For the Detroit pair it was time to move on from their ground-breaking past. It was time for some shape-shifting and wave-jumping to occur, in Drexciya's terms.

BISHOP & W. DAVID OLIPHANT, SIR RICHARD Beyond All Defects: Mount Meru Anthology Series Vol. 1 LP
Although Sir Richard Bishop (SRB) and W. David Oliphant (WDO) worked together periodically in the '80s through Sun City Girls and Maybe Mental, they never set out to simply work together as a duo. Fast forward to 2011, SRB, feeling the need to temporarily step out of his solo guitar zone, approached WDO with the idea of this joint collaboration... Beyond All Defects was composed and recorded live in the studio in Phoenix, Arizona in December of 2011 (remastered in 2018 by Mark Gergis) and presented on vinyl for the first time by Twenty One Eighty Two Recording Company. The sonic landscapes presented here find their origins in Tibet, and are heavily inspired by Tibetan Buddhism -- specifically the body of teachings known as Dzogchen. Many of the musical ideas for this project were literally derived from dreams the night before they were created. The remaining ideas were formed centuries ago. Sir Richard Bishop plays acoustic guitar throughout. Often detuned, bowed, and beaten, the guitar was "treated" by Oliphant during the live recording process. SRB also provided audio from field recordings he captured in India. WDO used a variety of computer software with a MIDI controller to create all the other sounds. All tracks were captured in real-time, direct to disk. Beyond All Defects is the first in a series celebrating the audio adventures created by Arizona sonic composers. Clear vinyl; Edition of 500.

RED CHANNEL Crazy Diamonds EP 7"
After a busy year, Red Channel chose a number of their most resonant songs to record for this debut 7" EP on Upset The Rhythm entitled Crazy Diamonds EP. The title track launches the listener through a stratosphere of cascading notes, swoon-some lyrical turns and tack-sharp pivots in rhythmic practice. "Giver" is a similarly sprightly yet pointedly track. "Demons" swirls with minimalist pop moves, a trailing backing vocal and a tumbling bass motif, whilst a dream-like quality pervades the guitar and keyboard lines. "Slowness" is another triumph of illusory lyrical association and punchy gesture.

CHILTON, ALEX Like Flies On Sherbert LP
Repressed. Vinyl Lovers present a reissue of Alex Chilton's Like Flies On Sherbert, originally released in 1979. A step beyond the pop-perfection of Big Star lay Chilton's darker side. His 1979 solo effort was a both brilliant and flawed drug-fueled examination of his own country roots in search of a new direction. Through songs by Ernest Tubb, Jimmy C. Newman, Roy Orbison, and K.C. and the Sunshine Band, as well as some originals, Chilton produced a looser album that allowed his new found creativity to flow through the many cracks, simultaneously dividing fans into two camps: the Big Star purists, and the ones who were able to see the genius on the flip side of its demise. Includes four bonus tracks. 180 gram vinyl.
