Sometime in '72 on a trip to swinging Soho I remembered going to Virgin Records, then a dingy first floor room on the site of the now monster megastore, filled with hippies, headphones, cushions and some very exotic records. I remember seeing for the first time Xhol's unique 'Motherfuckers GmbH & Co. KG' sleeve in all its tattered glory. Such a mysterious item, I bought it immediately and went off home for a listen. WOW! It was amazing; a strange mix of psychedelic jazz, radio interference and unhinged rock. Since then it's been played a thousand times and still remains the masterpiece that it is. It's been a rewarding experience working with Tim Belbe on this project; my heartfelt thanks to him and also to David Tibet and Christoph Heemann for all their help in making this dream come true.
Steven Stapleton, 14 April 2001

In 1974 I was at a most unpleasant private school in Englad. Between the sadism and boredom, I was introduced to some truly wonderful music (and some absolutely dreadful music too). One of the most mesmerising albums I bought was 'Motherfuckers GmbH & Co. KG' by Xhol. I suppose I chose it, rather than the Wishbone Ash album I had also been offered, because of the rude title, and because I was fascinated as to why a group would purposefully print smudge marks, dirt and dust on their record cover. But when I put Xhol on I was amazed by its oddness, its energy and its hypnotic and raw beauty. There was really no other group like them. Xhol were years ahead of their time and my time. I still haven't caught up with them yet.
David Tibet

Since I first heard Xhol Caravan at Steven's house some 15 years ago they have been my favourite German band from that era. The few records they released were connected by something very special that no other band seemed to have. I could write at length about their unusual musical and cultural background (rooted in their early days as a soul band) or their unique ways of musical communication and experimentation, or their lifestyle as a communal band... but it is simpler to say I am drawn to their music simply by the sound and atmosphere, and that has to be heard to be experienced.
