PALMA, TRISTON Joker Smoker LP
2022 repress. A reissue of Triston Palma's Joker Smoker, originally released in 1981. Angus Taylor of the BBC on Joker Smoker in 2008: "Triston Palma's (or Palmer as he was also known) Joker Smoker was notable not just for his praise of herb smoking (nothing new in reggae) but for its sardonic appraisal of the moochers and chancers that those who live such a lifestyle are fated to encounter. Its continuing resonance was proven in 2006 when the Italian singjay and producer, Alborosie, released his own anthem, 'Herbalist', on the 'Joker Smoker' rhythm. . . . Joker Smoker was released in 1981, when reggae had become fascinated with its own fundamentals: sparse reworkings of familiar rhythms, with pounding kick drums, simple plodding basslines, and effects laden, highly evocative guitar and keyboard lines. These tended to be played by the Roots Radics band who created all the backings for this disc, produced by the deejay Jah Thomas at the famous Channel One Studio. The received mainstream critical wisdom on this era is that it was a musical blind alley that necessitated the iconoclasm of hard dancehall later in the decade. But the captivating ambience and musical intricacies of a record like Joker Smoker show this up for the reductive nonsense that it is. Bingy Bunny's chopping rhythm guitar work, Sowell Bailey and Dwight Pinckney's plaintive, chorus laden, lead guitar phrasing, and the primordial, relentless drum and bass foundations laid down by Errol Holt and Style Scott are typical of a time when modern production techniques, live instrumentation, dancehall rhythms and rootical lyrics came together as one. But it is the small touches that really impress. These include Dean Fraser, Nambo Robinson and Deadly Headley Bennett's mocking horns (parodying Palma's dried honey vocals) on the title track, Gladstone Anderson's precisely considered, minimal piano, and percussionist Sky Juice's use of a cuica friction drum on 'Give Me Give Me Your Love'. 'Joker Smoker' may be the album's centre, but every one's a winner here. A perfect example of what was, in reality, a high point in reggae's golden age."

THOMAS, JAH Dance Hall Connection LP
Originally released in 1983. Recorded at Channel One, Kingston, Jamaica. Mixed at Channel One and King Tubby's Studio. "Jah Thomas was an important figure on the Jamaican music scene during both the roots era of the '70s and the subsequent dancehall decade of the '80s. Besides releasing several DJ sides of his own in the latter half of the '70s, Thomas also came into his own as one of the island's top producers for both singers and DJs. Many of these sides found their way to the dub studios of King Tubby, who transformed a wealth of Thomas' rhythms into a some of the best dub tracks to emerge from Jamaica." --AllMusic

OCIYA AKA PATRICIA & TIN MAN Celestial Body Music Part 1 12"
Johannes Auvinen (Tin Man) and Max Ravitz (Patricia), two devotees in the cult of the TB-303, return to Acid Test with the Celestial Body Music series, a follow up to their 2020 LP Powers Of Ten (AT 011LP). Recorded in Ravitz's studio in Asheville, NC, Celestial Body Music once again showcases the pair's penchant for raw yet emotive dance music. With Auvinen's signature TB-303 programming and Ravitz's typical melancholic flair, the duo's styles merge seamlessly over the course of 8 tracks that harken back to the heyday of American techno and house. Following on from Powers Of Ten, the pair continue to fix their eyes firmly on the stars, as Celestial Body Music's song titles conjure visions of listening to Dance Mania 12"s on the ISS. With a tonal palette that features the well-trodden sounds of classic analog hardware like the TR-808, TR-909, TB-303, and SH- 101, Ociya demonstrate their ability to breathe new life into these old instruments through thoughtful programming, arrangement, and mixing. This is made all the more significant when considering every song was recorded live to 2-track with no editing over the course of a few days. Sweet and savory both, the new material strikes a perfect balance between emotive sensibility and dancefloor appeal.

SW. okALGORYTHM 2LP
The elusive SW. returns to Avenue 66 with okALGORYTHM. His third LP for the label is a semi-opaque wandering through the shadowy byways of memory, driven by tough-yet-supple production, and his unmistakable, unerringly original voice. Inspired by all night electronic radio shows of the '90s, okALGORYTHM pulses with rich imagination and a sense of purposeful meandering. Speaking in cryptic fragments, the artist hints at elusive reminiscences "back then on the Autobahn, to Berlin, with friends" while also noting that some recollections are "of things that didn't happen that way." To this end, the album drifts from the knotty synth spirals of opener "WHAtADAY" through the tense, technoid tropics of "stepCLASSixMOtor," the brightly melancholic Larry Heard-isms of "TROPyCALLhytsrIA" to the stately skronk of closer "What endingENDs." The rhythmic undergirding never lets up, suggesting a limitless night drive tinted in deep greens and refracted reds. Each of the album's ten tracks comes alive with warm, analog finesse and a palpable atmosphere, though they play out by turns urgent or unhurried, coaxing or inscrutable. Yet throughout, there's a consistently hypnotic quality which draws the listener deeper into the album's unique balancing act. If listeners are trained to expect throwback anthems every time the '90s are referenced, here they might find a more apt touchstone in the wilder, left-of-center corners of Chicago's foundational epoch. Throughout the album, the spirit of jacking house is absorbed, metabolized and transmuted. Drawing on lineages of taut, nervy synth-and-drum machine workouts, SW. manipulates his hardware with the delicate, considered touch of a painter. Perhaps the memory that lingers longest from that bygone era is the sense of profound possibility that dawns before forms become rigidly calcificed and commodified. Either way, adventurous listeners will find that okALGORYTHM blooms with a uniquely affecting grace and SW.'s inimitably obscure loveliness, infused with a somber glow and marked by shimmering, untraceable contours.

BEALES, TREVOR Fireside Stories (Hebden Bridge circa 1971-1974) LP
LP version. Tip On sleeve. Anti-counter culture loner folk from a teenage attic in the heart of rural Northern hippiedom. Today the valley town of Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire is world-renowned as something of a bohemian backwater. It wasn't like this back in the late 1960s and the early 1970s, when a disparate selection of radicals, drop-outs, heads, musicians, artists and writers started to be attracted to the Calder Valley. Over time, those seeds of radicalism and collectivism ensured Hebden Bridge evolved into a place where people could be themselves and all shades of individual oddness not only tolerated but actively encouraged. But back at the turn of the dreary 1970s it remained a monochrome world defined by its unforgiving surrounding landscapes, where the old gritstone over-dwellings were stained with soot and rain lashed down for weeks. It was here that Trevor Beales, who was born in 1953, grew up, and from where he drew musical and lyrical inspiration. The discovery of Bob Dylan, Django Reinhardt, The Byrds, and James Taylor at a young age, lead to him picking up a guitar at the age of ten, and he was soon writing his own originals and performing them at local (though often remote) folk clubs and pubs. Recorded in the attic of the family home at Ivy Bank in Charlestown on the verdant wooded slopes at the edge of Hebden Bridge between 1971 and 1974, these early recordings are collected here for the first time and mark Trevor Beales long-overdue solo debut. In these songs is a suffer-no-fools sense of realism that is defiantly Northern, yet also expresses a worldliness that belies Beales's young years, whilst also showcasing an inherent storyteller's ear for narrative. Two aspects of this music make it remarkable: Beales' natural ability showcases a sophisticated guitar-picking style that was leagues ahead of many of his (older, more recognized) contemporaries. This is music that can confidently hold its own with pioneers such as Davey Graham, Michael Chapman, Dave Evans, Bert Jansch, and Jackson C Frank, as influenced by jazz, blues and steel guitar as any of the old songbook classics from ancient Albion. Secondly, his lyrics are a far cry from either the naïve bedroom scribblings of a teenager who has barely left his upland home, nor do they fall foul of the type of lazy cliches and sub-Tolkien imagery that was still in abundance in the early 1970s. Trevor's music is grounded in reality -- his reality. Trevor Beales died suddenly and unexpectedly on March 29th 1987, aged 33. He left behind Christine and their young child Lydia. Sleeve notes by Hebden author Benjamin Myers.

VANGARDE, DANIEL The Vaults of Zagora Records Mastermind (1971-1984) 2LP
Born in 1947, Daniel Vangarde is a French songwriter and producer. In 1967, he met Jean Kluger who became his publisher. In the 1970s, their tandem stood out in those fields, for a plethora of popular French artists such as Petula Clark, Claude François, Joe Dassin, Dalida, Régine, Sheila, and Ringo. 1975 saw the birth of Vangarde's label, Zagora, and his first and only solo LP. Later on, Vangarde and Kluger were responsible for a number of hit songs by The Gibson Brothers, Ottawan, and La Compagnie Créole. With or without Kluger, Vangarde also wrote and produced songs that remained underground, under several monikers (Starbow, Who's Who, Soul Iberica Band, Yamasuki, Rocky & Vandella...) and for various artists. Because Music opens these incredible cosmic disco funk vaults. C.O.B. Spirit of Love LP
Limited 2022 restock; LP version. "Prior to co-founding the Incredible String Band, Clive Palmer had already made a name for himself as a versatile instrumentalist from his teenage years busking around London. Just after the first ISB album was released, he would quit the band and seemingly vanished from the scene, traveling around Europe, India and Afghanistan. He resurfaced with his banjo a few years later under the guise of COB, Clive's Original Band, with instrumentalists and songwriting partners Mick Bennett and John Bidwell. Guitarist Ralph McTell agreed to produce the project as a labor of love, and with the newly coined trio they created what is considered to be one of the most beautiful acid folk albums ever to come out of the British Isles. McTell kept the production organic, with most of the vocals and rhythm tracks recorded live. Experimental in nature, Spirit of Love is a highly original album that embodies the spirit of UK folk amidst reality at the time. Bootlegged several times, this is the first official vinyl reissue of this eternal classic."

INLAND BRETT001 12"
BRETT is a new label celebrating the co-dependent scenes of techno and contemporary art. A sub-label of Inland's Counterchange imprint, each edition will feature music selected by Ed Davenport, paired with cover art curated by Nils Petersen. BRETT is dedicated to the spirit of Berlin's early club scene, where cross-pollination and spirited discourse between musicians and visual artists etched the blueprints for a new techno-culture. BRETT001 finds co-creator and long-time Berlin ex-pat Inland at the helm, delivering four surging, up-tempo club tools, plus two brainwave-activating noise experiments. Celebrated Irish-born artist Mariechen Danz provides a photograph of her visionary sculpture, "Statue for Gesticulation", for the cover artwork. The towering super-human structure bears a multitude of nurturing hand-gestures, suggesting support, comfort, and togetherness. Built from roughly textured grey concrete and resembling a technoid, monolithic bunker or industrial space in itself, the loving, humanist symbols of peaceful action mirror the culture of inclusion, love and acceptance practiced on the dancefloor.

SCHNITZLER, CONRAD Rot LP
2022 restock. LP version on 180 gram vinyl. There was a particular type of artist who could only have emerged in the legendary early 1970s. Few musicians fit the bill better than Conrad Schnitzler (Tangerine Dream, Kluster). Revolution, pop art and Fluxus created a climate which engendered unbridled artistic and social development. Radical utopias, excessive experimentation with drugs, ruthless (in a positive way) transgression of aesthetic frontiers were characteristic of the period. The magic words were "subculture," "progressivity" and "avant-gardism." West Berlin, with its unique political status, was a crucible of turbulence. Founded in 1968, Zodiak Free Arts Lab was the ultimate point of convergence for subculture in West Berlin, with Conrad Schnitzler the driving force behind it. It was also here that Tangerine Dream and Kluster first met up to perform in public. Bureau B presents Rot (The "Red" Album) from 1973, Schnitzler's first solo LP. Includes a printed innersleeve with notes from Asmus Tietchens.

This compilation collects nine unpublished tracks from the original tapes and confirms his unique offbeat style ranging from post-punk, dub, and industrial. MEIJER, LAVINIA Are You Still Somewhere? LP
"Lavinia Meijer is a pioneering and exciting musician and composer, and one of the most important harpists of her generation. Known for her passion in broadening the possibilities of the harp -- both in terms of sound and appeal -- she's garnered worldwide critical acclaim for her intelligent, inventive interpretations of both orchestral repertoire and more contemporary music, playing alongside the likes of Philip Glass and Ólafur Arnalds, and performing works by Radiohead in classical venues. Four years in the making, Are You Still Somewhere? sees Meijer combine original compositions with her long-stated dream of interpreting modern composers and musicians for harp. Works by Ryuichi Sakamoto, Ólafur Arnalds, and Alexandra Streliski all feature, as do collaborations with Dutch pianist Pieter de Graaf and punk legend Iggy Pop. Are You Still Somewhere? concerns self-reflection and inner growth, topics that have come to the fore over the last couple of years. Family too; looking back, longing, and living with one's regrets are raked over in 'Mom & Dad', a track that features spoken word poetry from Iggy Pop. The 2022 Edison Award-winning album Are You Still Somewhere? includes a 4-page booklet."

LEVY, BARRINGTON Poorman Style LP
2022 repress. Some of Barrington Levy's most significant (and enduring) recordings from Channel One Studio, mixed by Scientist. Originally released in 1982. "It's difficult to overstate the transformative effect that Barrington Levy's earliest recordings had on the sound of Jamaican music. In late 1979, Levy's spare, hauntingly arranged early singles such as 'Shine Eye Gal,' 'Collie Weed,' and 'Shaolin Temple' completely overtook Jamaican dancehalls and streetside sound clashes. . . . By the time Levy released Poorman Style in 1982, he was arguably Jamaica's preeminent vocalist. Poorman Style features a set of punishing rhythms from the crack studio outfit The Roots Radics, with production work from singer-turned-label owner Linval Thompson and former King Tubby protégé Scientist. The title track -- a crisply observed sufferers' tale full of tragic notes and indelible details from everyday life -- hits particularly hard." --iTunes

P-ORRIDGE & DAVE BALL, GENESIS Imagining October: The Original Sondtrack To The Derek Jarman Film LP
The official soundtrack to Derek Jarman's 1984 short film Imagining October, with music recorded by Derek's friend and collaborator Genesis P-Orridge (Psychic TV, Throbbing Gristle), and Dave Ball (Soft Cell, The Grid). Recorded at DJM recording studios in Theobalds Road, London. Derek Jarman put together a program of films for the London Film Festival, reflecting the cutting edge of the London avant-garde of the time. Recorded at the same time as The Angelic Conversation, Imagining October was filmed in the Eisenstein Museum in Moscow, Vladimir Mayakovsky's grave at Novodevichy Cemetery, the GUM department store facing red square, and the fire temples of Baku in Azerbaijan. The painting sequences with a group of soldiers (Angus Cook, Stephen Thrower, Peter Doig, and Keir Wahid) was filmed in London. Jarman considered it one of the best, if not the best, of his shorter works. It was intended as an agit-prop work and the combination of music and imagery remains powerful to this day. Features liner notes by James Mackay (Jarman's producer, collaborator, and archivist). Limited edition 12" vinyl featuring a beautiful etched B-side; full color sleeve."The heroism of revolution through the queered lens... It was not just the Soviet Union censoring books, Jarman points out here, but Thatcher's government and its homophobia was no greater friend to gays than the regime on the other side of the Iron Curtain. A moral hysteria surrounding AIDs was sweeping Britain, the miner's strike was in full swing (an action supported by gay activists, as it was brutally broken up by police): back home, society seemed on a knife edge" --ArtReview.

JAGATH Svapna CD
Svapna is the brand-new album from Jagath, the ritual/industrial/dark ambient act from Perm, Russia. "A portal to another world is located inside an abandoned Soviet-era swamp drain near a residential building in the Zakamsk suburb of Perm, Russia, 58.0122, 55.9623. A ritual was performed here, so now we are living in an inside-out world. This is one of the last recordings inside our Temple -- the oil tanks are finally scrapped. I hope this is not the end. This album is dedicated to the victims of totalitarian regimes." Jagath create their music at abandoned industrial locations -- the bottom of a moist underground sewer shaft and inside huge hollow oil tanks -- without using digital synthesis. Simple, mostly hand-crafted instruments, found objects and voices are used to share their vision of decaying post-industrial age, to unleash the spirit of deep beyond-world and unveil life in the abyss. KOLLAPS Until The Day I Die CD
Until The Day I Die is the third album from Australian post-industrial outfit Kollaps. Until The Day I Die is a merciless and visceral assault on the senses and continues the trajectory of the band's idiosyncratic approach in their creation of sound. The album showcases an uncompromising force of harsh post-industrial music narrated by overarching themes of condemnation and redemption; of violence, romanticism, sexuality, and addiction. Much of the creation and lyrical conceptualization of the record has been stylized and presented using William S. Burroughs's cut-up method. A wide variety of metals and raw materials were used in the creation of the album including metal grates, a rusted hoist, cement cylinders, field recordings, hammering of various decrepit objects, broken amplifiers, an exposed reverb tank, various synthesizers, and the infamous metal coil; a crudely self-constructed artifice that has become iconic in its use across Kollaps's triptych of releases and lengthy touring history in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Until The Day I Die has had a tectonic shift in production methods compared to its predecessors and was entirely written, recorded, and mixed internally the self-constructed ILoveHeroin Studios built above a sculpture museum in Lugano, Switzerland. All instrumentation was handled by Wade Black except for bass guitar by Andrea Collaro recorded at Hangar 121 in Lenate Pozzollo, Italy on all tracks except "D-IX" and "I Believe In The Closed Fist", handled by Black, and additional sound design and percussion by Giorgio Salmoiraghi. The album was mastered by James Plotkin and completed with cover artwork by Nullvoid (Thomas Ekelund/Trepaneringsritualen). CD version in six-panel digipak.

Six years later they rose from the ashes, restructured and resurrected as MZ. 412. This is evil incarnate, staring into the abyss. Relentless industrial rituals; darkness fused with machines, your fears and your power. An expression of the coldest music imaginable. With a more lyrical approach than the predecessor Macht Durch Stimme (CSR 306CD), Malfeitor explores themes of death, with an unequivocal dystopian outlook. Cavernous heavy industrial, primitive machine rhythms, and cold metallic loops created on old synths with very little post-production. What you hear is how it sounded on those original sessions. Originally released on LP in 1989 by Cold Meat Industry, this monumental album is now available for the first time since 2001. This definitive edition has been painstakingly transferred and mastered from the original 4-track tapes, with no unnecessary "padding". Digipak with elegant new artwork by Abby Helasdottir (Gydja). In 1987, Henrik Nordvargr Björkk, Jouni Ulvtharm Ollila, and Leif Holm forged a band that would be an outlet for blasphemous prophecies, yet from a unique sonic spectrum. The unholy triumvirate were already hitting hard as Pouppée Fabrikk, with Maschinenzimmer 412 unleashing their deepest, darkest personas. Jonas Drakhon Aneheim joined in 1995, replacing Holm and thus enacting the change of name to the abridged MZ. 412. MZ. 412 are an act that continues to cover the earth in a nightmarish black veil. Rare releases and even rarer performances have only added to the cult status of these prime movers.

DEAD VOICES ON AIR Abrader Redux CD
The hugely sought-after debut album from Dead Voices On Air (Mark Spybey of Download/ ex-Zoviet France, Reformed Faction), featuring Cevin Key (Skinny Puppy/Download). Abrader blends processed sounds from primitive instruments and found objects into hypnotic looped rhythmic structures, with dark clusters of heavy ambient washes into what could be described as "organic panambience", or "music for the eyes". Abrader was the first of over 80 releases (so far) by Mark Spybey using the name Dead Voices On Air. It was recorded over the space of days in Vancouver in 1993 and released as a tape the following year by Akifumi Nakajima (Aube), for his G.R.O.S.S. label. Chronologically, the material was recorded after most of the music that made up his first two releases on compact disc -- New Words Machine and Hafted Maul -- however, Abrader was released before both of those albums. Abrader Redux features the three lengthy tracks that were released on the original cassette, plus the bonus tracks that were included in the 2009 reprint as part of the Fast Falls The Eventide double-CD, and now with two "new" previously-unreleased bonus tracks recorded 1994 -- taking this masterwork up to seven tracks and over 67 minutes of exceptional music. This release is dedicated to the memory of both Akifumi Nakajima and Zev Asher who both passed away in 2013. Spybey was introduced to Akifumi by his friend from Vancouver, Zev Asher. Zev had a noise project called Roughage and was also in a band called Nimrod, that had at one time been based in Japan. Remastered by Martin Bowes from Attrition. Packaged in a matt-laminate digipak with art by Spybey, beautifully laid out by Abby Helasdottir. "If most ambient is the laudanum of the new fin de siécle, then Dead Voices on Air are the absinthe" --Village Voice.

BUSINESS, THE 1980-81 Complete Studio Collection LP
Ninth installment already of Daily Records' Vintage Series, this time dedicated to The Business. The label turns their attention to the first formation of the band, including all their studio recordings conducted during 1980 and 1981. The Business were formed during this period by the ubiquitous Micky Fitz on vocals, Steve Kent on guitar, Martin Smith on bass, and Nick Cunningham on drums; the most surprising aspect of this period is the contrast between the usual street-punk sound of some songs as "Suburban Rebels", "No Emotions", or "Richard Lewis" and the much more pop-oriented tunes like the magnificent "Out in the Cold" or "Streets Where You Live" that fall closer to the sound of mod revival bands than other punk oi! bands of the time. On A side you will find the seven tracks that were officially published (on singles and compilation LPs) while the flip side features the band's demo recordings. This release features an inner sleeve with information about all the recording sessions compiled on this album and also previously unseen graphic material.

DALE, JON Last Blues LP
In Last Blues, De la Catessen Records presents a mysterious folio of sonic snapshots, as much recaptured as composed, by Jon Dale's project, Moth, in Adelaide in the late '90s and early '00s. We're invited to tune in to these liminal frequencies, to observe and inhabit them, and relish the glowing sensual overdrive of their manifestation. From the ready means and at-handedness of guitar, amp, and tape, a congruous but diverse selection of unnamed tracks emerge -- musical moments borrowed from oblivion with the as yet unfulfilled good intention of returning them. Their sounds evoke abstract Polaroids of winter seascapes flecked with spare, brittle detail, or the scaly-winged flutterings of elusive nocturnal insects. Here, a homely hum like a vacuum cleaner on sunny childhood's weekend morning; there, suburban power lines buzzing gently in the mist. The last track of Last Blues is like a reverent vision of lava-flow for harmonium, the slow-motion eruption of a single chord, which echoes in the mind for hours. Last Blues comes from somewhere that doesn't exist anymore, and shows us something that may never have happened there."Jon Dale collapses old dichotomies (such as organic vs. inorganic and heavy vs. light) into a pure horizon of tone with only guitar and a little harmonium. Sonically, it makes me think of a middle point between if Organum snuck into the studio to remix Glenn Branca, and what I imagine the electric synapses firing off in Raymond Roussel's brain would've sounded like if committed to wax cylinder. Which is to say, it sounds rad." --Ben Chasny, Six Organs Of Admittance

BANDIT, PETE Wild Feelings EP 12"
Dirt Crew present a new artist from Berlin. Dutch native Pete Bandit relocated to Berlin some years ago where we first met in 2018 when he was part of the Times Are Ruff collective. They contributed a track on Dirt Crew for their Deep Love 2018 compilation (DIRT 113LP). Now, recently going solo, he developed his sound even more towards Detroit-ish house with dabs of techno and a bit of high tech jazz in there as well. This debut EP offers Loads of deep soulful grooves, spiritual "computer" music at it's best! The A-side "Wild Feelings" is such a beautiful opener to this record, with its lush spread out intro it paves the way with that perfect mood for what is to come, a mix of soul, funk, and electronics and overall well-crafted deepness. The keys on this one were contributed by the mysterious Nelson of the East topped with vocals by Pete himself. "It's Happening Again" continues the story with soulful deep house textures and this one especially reminds us a lot of those early '90s Chicago/ New York House gems, the track is building towards a great breakdown key change and with its atmospheric strings and pads it's a truly uplifting "Good Times" tune. On the flip you have "Computer's Creativity". This track picks up the pace and is centered around a funky, almost slap like, bass line. Here again topped by a vocal add of Pete about "Computer's Creativity" and with it's cool break this one will also be a sure floor-filler, guaranteed! The closing track on this record is the driving "Luv Your Body", great percussion guides us through a loose set arrangement and make this one a perfect late hours or early mornings tune in any mix, it could go on forever! All tracks have been mixed by Ariel Schlichter in Berlin and mastered by Salz Mastering in Cologne. Photography and art by Break 3000.

COLEY & TED LEE, BYRON As Seen In Your Wildest Dream LP
"If Coley can do anything and, I assure you, he can do a few things, some very well indeed -- cooking, drinking, smoking, chortling, collecting, dissecting, inspecting, sniffing, gassing, pranking -- to name but a few, he can, without a beat gone by, make you wanna listen to the goddamn records he's criteeking whether it be in old ishes of Forced Exposure, Boston Rock, New York Rocker, or the LA Weekly or his nugget column in Wire. For many his obscurant references to what is already an obscure contempo side can be so layered -- as if the review is some kind of lit cuz to Jodorowsky's spiraling labyrinthian masterpiece of surrealist Espanola 'huh?' cinema, The Holy Mountain -- that the narco-eclectic desire to actually hear what the fuk this accredited gourmandizer is -- in various temperaments -- jazzed about, that you actually find yrself hunting the lathe cut edition of minus three and sending all yr rent money to grip it -- 'Coley wrote about this -- s'posed to be 'insane''. He and Ted Lee have been manning the formidable and replete Feeding Tube emporium for a few years now in the wilds of Western Mass and what at first appeared to be an unlikely pair have become quite a prolific bastion of bonkerism rock and experimental otherness like a water tap stuck on unthreaded gush. Open heads recognize and learn/teach from each other without too many questions being asked (look, listen, have a cold one, step out for a smoke) They play sax? Good toot? sign 'em up! Music is an exchange, a gift, has nothing to do with making money only in making friends and neighbors ('that's where we meet!' --Ornette). Putting out cool records is -- a well worn trope I know, but it's true as trout -- a LABOR OF LOVE. Ted Lee gleans sound art music in organic intrigue obviously from the day he was released from the chute of procreation and it stands to cosmic reason that he can hang tuff and throw down smooth licks with Coley's verbacious loquacity. These readings with sound spoo are just a taste of the cream dream epiphanies these gents collude so instantaneously on. Time is of the essence and music is time, so are thoughts and words like diamond juice dripping from the corners of Don Cherry's pocket trumpet maw -- at least that's what I hear when I hear these cats yowling half past the end of nowhere on a fence behind our collective houses full of records, books, and nudie mags. Life is fuckin sweet." --Thurston Moore, London 2022

PRIEBE, PHILIPP Apparent Calm Palms 2x12"
Stólar label boss Philipp Priebe delivers his new album Apparent Calm Palms, joining the roster of Mainz/Hamburg, Germany's Feuilleton. Berlin-based artist Philipp Priebe has been steadily making his mark on the contemporary deep hazy house and leftfield electronica scene over the past few years with a series of releases on his own Stólar imprint. Here though you see him deliver his second album following his debut LP, The Being Of The Beautiful, released on Japan's IL Y A Records back in 2014. Feuilleton is the brainchild of Chris Gruber (Fossar) and Tim Eder and since 2018 has unveiled material from the duo themselves, RR (René Raabe), Snad, Gari Romalis, Melina, Jakob Seidensticker, and more. Throughout the Apparent Calm Palms LP, Priebe delivers a concoction of styles and sounds cohesively fused together to form the bigger concept which is he says is "an album about small towns and villages and the needs and desires that brings one night out in clubs. The transport/travel, the preparty, all the things that you had to do, when you are not directly living in the big party places, but still want to have a decent night out, away from your usual suspects." Throughout the ten-track LP Philipp delivers ethereal deep house with opening track "Desires", the succeeding "Interborough" and "Chimera", murky dub house leaning cuts like "Quiet Decay", "Slalom", "Unfold", and "Conclusions" while "Transfiguration" showcases a more classic Chicago house influence. Title track "Apparent Calm Palms" and the interlude "Behind Their House" then see Priebe offer a foray into textural ambient sounds, once again showcasing his unique ability to craft raw, understated and emotion-fueled material across a variety of genres. Mastering by Sven Weisemann and lacquer cut by Stefan Betke.

VA XXIV - Chapter Two 12"
Freude am Tanzen is back for a very special occasion. In 2022, three Various Artists EPs will be released, celebrating the 24th anniversary of the label from Thuringia. Whilst occasions like this would normally be celebrated on the quarter century, this release makes sense not only on the mathematical level. Three compilations with four tracks provide the half of 24. The release however also makes sense in terms of history. Freude am Tanzen is showcasing a broad range of electronic music, never neglecting their history but also looking into the future. The second edition of the compilation features tracks from Caldera, Freund der Familie, Gathaspar, and Front Left. The A-side focuses on dub-house. Caldera's track "30 Friends" gets a smooth yet groovy vibe across. Freund der Familie contributes a hypnotic production, which could be well incorporated in a warm-up or on the home speakers. The flip side goes deeper into the minimalistic region of electronic music. Gathaspar has produced a trippy journey, featuring the vocals of Anna Partini. One for the morning hours on the dancefloor. Front Left praises the groove with his track "AM3N". Very playful and delicate and a lovely selection of percussion.

IDE, YASUSHI Cosmic Suite 2 - New Beginning- LP
Japanese street music icon, Yasushi Ide releases a new album featuring Don Letts, Josh Milan, Jeff Mills, DJ Krush, and more. Yasushi Ide is the Japanese street icon. In the '90s he was called "the Guru of Shibuya-kei" which was the movement of Shibuya style of eclectic pop by the artists such as Cornelius, Pizzcato Five, or Original Love who is once again recognized in city pop revival of recent years. (Yasushi Ide was a manager of Original Love, and also Kenji Ozawa). Through his works, he has been creating the global network of musicians such as Josh Milan of the Blaze, house music icon, Don Letts, the pioneer of connecting punk rock with reggae, and Jeff Mills, Detroit techno legend, and released a great amount of hi-quality music on his label, Grand Gallery. The Cosmic Suite project started in 2020, during the pandemic. It started as a project to reconstruct the parts of music Jeff Mills created for Chieko Kinbara, a violinist which Mills produced. However, it turned out to be 36 minutes of space-themed original track: Cosmic Suite. This masterpiece created a buzz in the music scene in Japan and overseas, and became Yasushi Ide's new beginning. In June, 2022, Ide released Cosmic Suite 2. Originally, Cosmic Suite was an instrumental. Cosmic Suite is the reconstruction of Cosmic Suite 2 with the element of vocals. In this project, Don Letts, Josh Milan, and DJ Krush are featured as guest musicians. Moreover, drums of Tony Allen, the legendary Afrobeat drummer, and Style Scott, a drummer known for his works in early days of ON-U label, and Gota Yashiki, a Japanese drummer known for his works with Soul II Soul are featured in this album. Also, Japanese brightest talents such as Kan Takagi of Major Force, Kaoru Inoue aka Chari Chari, Tomoyuki Tanaka aka Fantastic Plastic Machine and Calm are featured as artists and engineers. This is the true dream team of the Japanese underground music scene. Artwork by Josue Thomas (Gallery Dept). He is also featured as poetry reading artist in the first track of Cosmic Suite 2. Highlight of Cosmic 2 is include unique dub sounds in tracks such as "Lava" featuring UA, the Japanese singer often described as "Japanese Björk", and "Sumimasen Suite" featuring Rebel Dread (Don Letts). Also features Emilie Chick, Emily Capell, Afrika Bambaataa, and Reck.

WAGNER, VANESSA Mirrored CD
French pianist Vanessa Wagner collects solo piano studies of graceful minimalism and rare finesse for new album Mirrored. Quickly following March 2022's Study of the Invisible album (IF 1070CD/LP), Vanessa Wagner returns with a new collection of work that paints in many colors. The application of shadow in Mirrored evokes haunting poignancy; the care and delicateness of its negative space leaves room for undulating melodic motifs to ebb and flow; its bold splashes of luminescence are striking and rich. And while the album collates re-interpretations of works by composers as varied as Philip Glass, Nico Muhly, Moondog, Leo Ferré, and Camille Pepin, the potency and effect of the collection as a whole reflects only Vanessa Wagner and the extraordinary breadth of her abilities. Performing solo, exposed to timbre, tempo and clarity, many of the pieces here -- such as "Sea Horses" by (Vanessa's one-time mentor) Moondog or Philip Glass's "Etude 4" -- demand virtuosic abilities as a performer and interpreter. But in Vanessa Wagner's hands, they are not only made her own, but made mesmeric and magical by the sensitivity of her touch. Also features works composed by Ryuichi Sakamoto, Melaine Dalibert, and Sylvain Chauveau.

FEATER Positive People 12"
Running Back regular Feater aka Daniel Meuzard puts his newly transplanted studio through its paces for the first time since relocating from Vienna, swapping out the bustle of the city for the fresh mountain breeze of the West Alps. The Positive People EP proves that a change is as good as a rest, as the wide-open nature not only had some rejuvenating effects on the creative process -- it also gave Feater some room in his head to ponder questions about nature, nurture, and whether our inner morality is externally programmed. The taut jazz funk of opening track "Coding" springs into action like the montage music of a lost '70s TV show, while the title track "Positive People" plays on the ambiguity of its title, with cascading synth notes, tastefully dubby 303 stabs, and an Afro-Cuban drum figure that forms the foundation for a spaced-out dancefloor workout. It's a combo of tracks that should appeal to chat room moderators and serotonin programmers alike. "Expensive Zeit" kicks off sounding like grime maverick XTC had been brought up on Murder Capital electro rather than East London garage -- before it morphs into a bumpin' electrofunk and percussion session, with its sights set firmly on an aquatic worm hole. The EP rounds out with "Decline All Cookies", which breaks out of a flanged-out half-time drum n' effects intro to reveal a lush chord progression, flipping a soul jazz piano mood into a trippy slice of modern instrumental funk. Can man be the master of his own destiny? It seems with this change of location and musical direction, Feater might just have figured out the answer.

DJ PIPER A Dream In A Dream LP
A Dream In A Dream is the debut LP by DJ Piper, also known as Felix Wagner of techno superstar duo FJAAK. One might be surprised about this all hip-hop instrumental album looking at Felix's all dance music focused musical resumé. Nevertheless, he has been crafting rap beats ever since he started producing as a teen, but had his childhood friends freestyle over the tracks solely. It took until 2020 when he teamed up with Lukas and Jonathan Nixdorff of Kommerz Records to release his first solo track "Iluminay", which was part of Kommerz Season 1: Anti-Virus compilation and shared by B-Real of Cypress Hill right away. Now, 2022, marks the right moment to share his debut album, a waltzing ode to hip-hop's golden era. The Berlin-Spandau original merges the legacies of both Pete Rock and Dr. Dre, while funky breakbeats meet laid back SoCal Chronic vibes. 12 instrumental tracks and two skits strong, his album tells the story of a young man, who lives up to his wildest teenage dreams. Most of the track ideas came up while being on tour with FJAAK. Between international transit areas, making inspirational new friends and bizarre encounters all over the world, beat-making became DJ Piper's safe space to process all the positive madness around him. As a result, A Dream In A Dream breathes that raw, untamable creative energy around Felix's extraordinary day-to-day life, while being heavily influenced by the sound of his childhood, '90s and 2000s rap. To visualize A Dream In A Dream DJ Piper and Kommerz Records joined forces with Raman Djafari, a childhood friend of the artist, who illustrated music videos for Dua Lipa and Elton John (no joke!) and worked for Adult Swim. Raman's supernaturalistic aesthetics bring life to DJ Piper's somewhat psychedelic, somewhat nostalgic fantasy, locating the album in an otherworldly version of Spandau, hometown to both of the artists. As one half of FJAAK, Felix became an icon of Berlin techno conquering major festival stages and mainstream audiences while heavily representing underground D.I.Y. mentality up to this very day. As an initiator of Spandau20 label and collective, Felix pushes his creative family and day one's regardless of commercial potentials. The same ethos and love for culture fuels the DJ Piper project. No matter if it's FJAAK or DJ Piper, techno or hip-hop -- integrity is key! Gatefold sleeve.

VOICE OF THE BEEHIVE Let It Bee 2CD
First time reissue. London Records remasters and reissues Voice of the Beehive's classic debut 1988 album, Let It Bee. In the mid-80s, armed with only a suitcase of songs, Californian sisters Tracey Bryn and Melissa Brooke Belland escaped the American music industry in search of the vibrant British indie scene, finding recently split Madness band member Daniel "Woody" Woodgate, who together with guitarist Mike Jones and bassist Martin Brett would form "the Beehive Boys". The powerful live chops of the Beehive Boys, combined with the harmonies, energy, and stage presence of Tracey and Melissa, made Voice of the Beehive indie darlings and one of the hottest live acts on the London scene. Signing with London Records, they recorded Let It Bee, its sunny exterior of sparkling indie guitars, energetic rhythms matched with lyrics and melodies that revealed both hope and an occasionally cutting cynicism. On its release, Let It Bee was a UK Top 15 album, its singles "I Say Nothing", "I Walk The Earth", and "Don't Call Me Baby" all chart hits and radio favorites. Reissued for the first time since its initial release. New liner notes by the band's very own Tracey Belland. The expanded double-CD version features previously unreleased tracks, live versions, and demos; includes "Cartoon City", a band favorite recently uncovered and remastered from the London Records archives.

LP version. Transparent honey yellow vinyl; gatefold.

BERTISCH, BARBIE Prelude LP
Prelude is an introspective record. It explores all of the valences of being and feeling. Some songs are chaotic and choppy. Others are soft and searching. There is rage and innocence, and moments of forced stillness, like capturing the aftermath of panic attacks, as in After The Storm. Barbie Bertisch also focuses on rhythm, bass guitar being her main instrument, and is no stranger to the power of the beat. The record also draws on influences as varied as Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, Cocteau Twins, Berlin School, and pioneering producer François Kevorkian. Both sonically and conceptually, Prelude is a portrait of who Bertisch is as a person. "Is This What You Wanted?" is fiery, a pointed provocation to domineering figures from her past. It's full of strobing, strident synths, and heady lines of bass. It gives off the same vibe as a fire alarm, as a big room dance track that subverts your expectations of what it means to dance in a sea of bodies. "28," the record's opening track, is more peaceful. It's all languid keyboard arpeggios with the occasional flourish of a cascading synth effect. Coke bottle clear vinyl. "I love the sounds, very much. The layers and depths. The melting phases and soaring distances." --Anna Domino

VIAN & MANA, PEDRO Cascades LP
Modern Obscure Music presents Cascades, the new album from Pedro Vian and Mana, which premiered during their immersive live set at the most recent Sonar Festival in Barcelona. Cascades was recorded over a three-day studio session in Turin during the winter months, which is reflected in the musical narrative, as the eleven tracks flow gently like an icy river, filled with a mixture of hazy melancholy, uncanny dream-states and euphoria. Various recording techniques and instrumentation was utilized, including the Lyra-8 organismic analog synthesizer, which takes principles from living organisms to produce sounds resembling a conversation between nature and technology. The result is a spellbinding ambient odyssey that features a luminous synthesis of neo-classical strings and orchestral drones, together with strange voices, and abstract passages designed to evoke Dante's Inferno, which represent the soul's journey. Pedro Vian and Mana join forces to traverse new sonic territories between electronica, ambient, drone, and trance-inducing soundscapes.Pedro Vian is a renowned Catalan artist who has released three solo albums and a collection of singles on his Modern Obscure Music imprint -- a multi-disciplinary platform based on deep listening and music research. Pedro curated the PRSNT compilation (MOMPRSNT) in 2021, featuring Laurie Spiegel, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Visible Cloaks. Pedro has been remixed by Inga Copeland and Pye Corner Audio. As part of a new generation of Italian electronic music artists, Piedmont born composer and producer Mana has released two full-length albums on Kode 9's Hyperdub imprint, plus an EP on Nicolas Jaar's Other People label under his Vaghe Stelle alias. Earlier in his musical journey, Mana supported Laurent Garnier, James Holden, and Skream across the Torino club scene, and in 2011 teamed up with Italian friends Lorenzo Senni and A:RA to form the experimental group One Circle.

BRUFORD'S EARTHWORKS, BILL Live at the Schauburg Bremen 1987 CD
"Amazing live recordings of Bill Bruford's Earthworks, recorded in November 1987 in Bremen (Germany), musically a tremendous show to remember. Having already spent twenty years on the cutting edge of modern rock percussion, Bill Bruford (ex-King Crimson, Yes, UK a.m.m.) formed Earthworks in 1986, as a deliberate return to his roots in jazz. Availing himself of the brightest young talent on the burgeoning U.K. jazz scene, namely keyboardist and tenor horn player Django Bates, and saxophonist Iain Ballamy, both best known as frontrunners with the anarchic big band Loose Tubes, Bruford encouraged the use of rock technology with jazz sensibility -- the hallmark of Earthwork's stylish approach. By letting in air and light, and adding a little wit and wisdom, they produced a particularly British antidote to the increasingly grotesque jazz fusion scene. The first LP for Editions EG, Earthworks, was a testament to their achievement. It sounds simple, but the band only found its direction through serious live playing. No theoretical studio concoction here. Japan, Europe and the UK were all visited before the release of the first album. In November 1987 Bill Bruford, double bass player Mick Hutton, Django Bates as well as Iain Bellamy performed at the 'Schauburg' in Bremen (Germany). The famous German radio and TV station Radio Bremen recorded the show. Stylistically, Earthworks offered here again all the band's openness to diverse styles: Power rock passages alternate with lyrical, balladic passages. Influences from African and Latin American music stood next to swinging sections. It was an amazing show and musically a tremendous night to remember."

PERE UBU Live at the Longhorn -- April 1, 1978 2LP
Warehouse find, last copies. ouble LP version. The three vinyl sides of Pere Ubu Live at the Longhorn are as much an indispensable live rock album as Modern Dance is an indispensable studio album. The show consists mainly of material from the Modern Dance album, only rocked out and swinging, more raw-nerved yet seasoned than their studio counterparts. What becomes apparent, especially on repeated listens, is how well-made this music is, how the drama and comedy flows within the modules of each song, how the songs fit together to give an audience an experience that -- while sharpened to paranoia and sensitive to harsh realities -- is as ineffable as it is concrete.

GYMSLIPS, THE Rocking with the Renees LP + 7"
East London's The Gymslips -- Paula Richards, Suzanne Scott, and Karen Yarnell -- barged their way onto the post punk scene in 1981. They openly embraced drinking, Pie & Mash, monkey boots, and double denim right from the start. Often credited with being the first female Oi! band, but they brought so much more to the table with their punky '60s influenced girl pop. Formed in 1980, the Gymslips started playing live the following year, and opened for Dolly Mixture on a 1981 UK tour. The band referred to themselves as "Renees" a late '60s term for mod girls, the same subculture that named boys "Ronees". Drummer Karen Yarnell told the NME that a "Renee was a girl who got as much shagging done as a bloke while also matching him for pint drinking, fag smoking, nose-picking, farting and the wearing of skinhead style double denim." They recorded five sessions for the John Peel show, after signing to Abstract Records their first single was a cover of Suzi Quatro's "48 Crash", which was released in 1982. The following year they released their sole album Rocking With The Renees along with two further singles "Big Sister" and "Robot Man". After Karen Yarnell left to join Serious Drinking, this ended the Gymslips. Although, they were to return two years later with a new line-up to release their final single "Evil Eye". Deluxe gloss laminated gatefold reissue with bonus 7", The Silly Egg EP; half red and half turquoise vinyl with a white vinyl 7"; includes printed inner sleeve.

MCCARTHY I Am A Wallet 2LP +7"
Expanded reissue, originally released in 1987. By the time McCarthy appeared on the NME's C86 cassette they had already been playing together for a couple of years and released two excellent singles. Their debut "In Purgatory" and the indie masterpiece "Red Sleeping Beauty" are both included on this release. The following year McCarthy released the brilliant "Frans Hals" before unleashing their debut album I Am A Wallet. Now recognized as an indie pop masterpiece it has gone on to achieve cult status, receiving praise from the likes of Nicky Wire (Manic Street Preachers) as one of the most important albums of the '80s. Known by today's indie acolytes as the band that spawned Tim Gane and Leititia Sadier (who of course went on to form Stereolab). It's a seamless album reminiscent of the Byrds. Wonderful, if slightly twee, jangly guitars with complex and rarely rhyming lyrics, Malcolm Eden's strident left wing political views are manifest on I Am A Wallet. Cloaked in pretty guitar and propulsive drums, Eden sets about attacking the pillars of the day, MPs, Prince Charles, Fleet Street, religion, the response to AIDS, and on almost every song, capitalism. The horrors and inequalities of the capitalist system are laid bare for all the see. The system which enables some to get rich at the expense of others is reviled and attacked.Pressed on red vinyl and presented in gloss laminated gatefold sleeve. Double album set contains the original LP plus 13 bonus tracks taken from their first four singles and the re-recorded version of "In Purgatory" which originally appeared on the Pink compilation EP, It Sells Or It Smells (1986), plus bonus 7", a reproduction color vinyl copy of McCarthy's first 7" In Purgatory. All three tracks have been remastered from the original master tape and presented in a wraparound sleeve, just like the incredibly rare "Wall Of Salmon" original. Also includes 20-page, 12x12" full-color booklet containing all the lyrics and packed full with photos, many previously unpublished, and press clippings and other memorabilia. Introduction by Nicky Wire of the Manic Street Preachers and track-by-track commentary by Malcolm Eden. 8x10 black-and-white press photo Reproduction European Tour poster "The Well Of Loneliness".

WILDFIRE Smokin LP
2022 restock. Out-Sider present a reissue of Wildfire's Smokin', originally released in 1971. Powerful and melodic hard-rock by this US power-trio: ultra-loud Quilter amps, killer leads, fuzz bass, furious drumming and vocals. Recorded at the legendary Sonobeat Studios in Austin (home of Mariani) and originally released in 1971 as a private demo album, now impossible to find. Originally formed in California in the late '60s, Wildfire consisted of Randy Love (guitar, vocals), Danny Jamison (bassm lead vocals), and Donny Martin (drums). Famous for powerful live shows, they packed the clubs with lines around the block of fans waiting to enter, becoming the house band for Finnegan's Rainbow and the favorite group of The Hessians Motorcycle Club, who became the unofficial guardians of the band. Soon, they got in touch with Pat Quilter from Quilter amps. Tired of blowing up amps when playing, Randy told Pat to design an amp that couldn't blow up. And he did it. Following Wildfire's input, Pat designed for the band the famous "Master Volume Dial" amp. In 1969, a Texas promoter heard the band in Southern California and brought them to Austin, becoming an instant hit locally in the Austin area. While in Texas, Wildfire shared the stage with Freddie King, the Allman Brothers, Johnny Winter, and ZZ Top. It was in Austin that the eight-song demo was cut at Sonobeat Records (home also of Mariani and Cold Sun), released in 1970 as a private pressing housed in a plain white cover with a Wildfire sticker, each one numbered. The demo album was never sold other than at a small record store in Southern California and it's now one the rarest hard-rock albums from the US. First bootlegged in the '90s and then officially reissued by Shadoks in 2006, here's a welcomed new vinyl edition. RIYL: Grand Funk, Bolder Damn, Demian, Cactus, Stack, Banchee, Blue Cheer, Hendrix... Master tape sound; includes insert with liner notes and photos.

Koudlam returns to civilization with Precipice Fantasy, an abnormal album once again. The album is made up of two very different parts which will be released separately, with a first part which shells 12 songs like so many flamboyant mutations and a second contemplative instrumental part halfway between uneasy yoga music and trance from the lowlands of Kathmandu. Inspired by the hallucinated stories of mountain pioneers and conquistadores, the artist delivers here the soundtrack of peaks and precipices. Or rather that of the path between the two, winding, vertiginous, always on the edge of the blade.

VA Itria Vol. 3 12"
Itria Vol. 3 is a slow techno-inspired cosmic journey that condenses in a single orbit a great cast of artists coming from different galaxies. It marks an evolution in sound and mood, taking us to a deeper and more visceral dimension. The first track by Interstellar Funk is a 100% pure electronic mind-trip, a machined groove where thoughts still roam frenetically paves the way for a more intimate experience. Tamburi Neri's downtempo track shapes a space-time portal in which to sink; their sound is like a beat echoing from the bottom of the chest and spreading to the tips of the fingers softly. For the first time, Salamanda co-works with Polifonic framing a Korean unknown soundscape, an ambient loop track through which we break away from this dimension and move towards the exotic. Hiver restores a connection with reality through their pulsating bass. The heartbeat speeds up, but you still float into a dreamy techno atmosphere. Claudio PRC & ZIPPO come into play with a powerful combination of techno textures that gets us to resurface and awaken the senses.

BLITZ Time Bomb: Early Singles and Demos Collection LP
Repress, originally released in 2013. A pure shot of abrasive punk/rock n' roll with a hint of working class Oi!, Blitz were among the most influential punk bands ever. It was Gary Bushell (who wrote for Sounds magazine and was later dubbed the "Godfather of Oi!") who brought the band to the attention of his friend Chris Berry, who had just set up No Future Records with a bank loan and high hopes. No Future 001 catalog (and Blitz's debut release) was a 4-track EP titled All Out Attack, a 20,000 copy bestseller that made the label's fortune, later to become the most representative of the whole UK82 movement. Its follow-up, "Never Surrender", reached #2 in the indie charts, while their third EP, Warriors, showed their slight move towards the sing-a-long-style of classic Oi!. Before shifting to a new wave-influenced vein right by the end of 1983, they managed to reach #2 in the charts with a fourth and last "punk" single, "New Age". This complete 1980-1983 retrospective features all four aforementioned singles along with their very first recording session from 1980, the legendary "Time Bomb" demos, and four cuts from the Voice Of A Generation demos.

BAILEY, CHARLIE MORROW & FRIENDS, DEREK New York 1982 LP
Recital publish an album of lost Derek Bailey sessions recorded with his friend and collaborator Charlie Morrow. In 1982, Bailey and Morrow organized a series of live concerts and studio sessions around New York. This new LP is a boiled-down rendering of the master tapes that lived dormant in Charlie's archive, until now. Throughout the album, Bailey and Morrow are joined by a rotating cast of New Wilderness players including frame drum percussionist Glen Velez, sound poet Steve McCaffery, publisher and artist Carol E. Tuynman, composer Patricia Burgess, and multimedia artist Michael Snow. The results are surprising and marvelous. The energy of the live concert, which makes up the first half of the record is particularly exciting, with Morrow and McCaffery's visceral sound poetry and Glen's frame drum echoing off of Derek's fret stabs, and Carol, Patricia, and Michael's horns swirling through the air between. A very raw and intense recording. The second side of New York 1982, is a session recorded at The Record Plant, and is clearly more "produced" with panning and tape echo processing, plus experiments with water whistles and other devices. Derek Bailey stands out for personal achievements as a guitarist and for his way of bringing together performance meetings ranging from duos to large ensembles. Working across style and genre, his music and musical unions have inspired the breakdown of boundaries, embracing all flavors of musicians as improvisers. Players focusing on the moment, "without memory." Personnel: Derek Bailey - acoustic guitars; Charlie Morrow - trumpet, ocarina, voice; Glen Velez - percussion; Patricia Burgess - saxophone; Steve McCaffery - voice, saxophone; Carol E. PHAUSS Nya Sverige - Nothing But The Truth CD/BK
Phauss is Carl Michael von Hausswolff and Erik Pauser. Formed in the early 1980s, Phauss operated amidst of generation of uncharacteristic Swedish artists concerned with reshaping the edges of practices in sound, light, performance and vision. It was a monumentally fertile period for Sweden in that a confluence of factors allowed artists to dedicate themselves to the relentless excavation of ideas, drilling down to the absolute core of their interests and ways of making. Von Hausswolff and Pauser, who both operated across sound and installation, used Phauss as a means for deconstructing ideas of composition, situationalism, site-specific works and extended performance methodologies. Across the second half of the 1980s and into the early 1990s, they made connections, through their travels, outward from their homeland into scenes and communities that stretched from the Middle East, through North America and into Asia. Nya Sverige - Nothing But The Truth is a recording made in the United States whilst the pair were undertaking an exhaustive tour in 1991 alongside Hafler Trio and Zbigniew Karkowski. This, now legendary, tour was both arduous and rewarding. Living in a van for many weeks at a time, travelling between cities with the most modest of means meant Phauss came to know a very particular vision of the United States, one that existed below plain view. Their's was an experience had at the rawest edges of cities. Equally the performances they gave, from which this edition is assembled, were raw and quite frankly dangerous. Fire on stage, sparks flying from short circuiting electronics and intense physical rituals guided so much of their work during this tour and looking back at bootleg videos from the time it's difficult to imagine the work being able to be presented in the modern world. One of the flyers from their tour reads "Extreme Swedish Industrial", and as familiar as those words might appear now, in 1991 they held a very different resonance. They were unfamiliar terms of reference and the intensity of Phauss's music maintains that unknowability to this day. This is a profoundly individual work and sets the stage for a generation of musicians who followed them. The edition includes a book featuring a long-form in conversation between Carl Michael Von Hausswolff and Erik Pauser with Lawrence English. It also includes never before seen photos and documents from their North American tour and collects together an essential and largely underdocumented history of this period of the group's work.

PHAUSS Audiodrome CD/BK
Audiodrome collects together two discreet works that sit somewhere between field recording, chance composition and experimental soundscape. Both pieces pre-date the widespread arrival of field recording as a creative practice, and expand outward the work that had been developed by musique concréte and other experimental music approaches concerned with the intersections of found sound and composition. Both works were devised using the same working methodology, whereby an alarm would sound every few days and wherever and whenever it sounded the pair would start recording their surroundings. Those raw material became the basis for the pieces. The first composition "Zürich - Zürich" is a piece that traces a line around the world, Phauss travelling on a round the world air ticket stopping only in countries where conflict was present. This unsettling journey became a meditation on the evolving state of the world in those moments. Voices, traffic, cafes, radios, transportation system and other incidental environments float into one another in a kind of stream of (temporally incongruous) consciousness. The second work "Alger - Lagos" brings to mind some of Brion Gysin and William S. Burroughs tape cut-ups. Street musicians are splice against bursts of radio, roadside conversations and searing blasts of industrial noise captured from aircraft and other unfamiliar sources. The edition includes a book featuring an exhaustive collection of photographs, documents and artworks made by Von Hausswolff and Pauser during their journeys undertaken to complete each of the compositions. Many of these images and artworks have never been published previously.

VA One Swallow Doesn't Make A Summer Part 5 12"
Part 5 of the various artists series is at it again with five tracks by five different producers and a mixture of feelgood party time music and contemplative music. You will hear familiar Running Back names like Storken (this time together with JStaaf) refining their comic tropes (or imagine Foreigner doing house music) next to newcomers like Archie Ward. His "Pizza Girl" puts musical toppings on a pounding underbelly that wouldn't be out of place in any warehouse, while Moritz and Amount dial it back a bit. Their respective tracks are gleaming with a special kind of elegant end-of-night euphoria that is hard to come by -- and all the nicer if it happens. Remember: trance is a state of mind! Last but not least, Australia's Jonus Eric delivers an IDM-leaning piece of outsider dance.

KRYSTAL KLEAR Essentia 12"
"Essentia" is not only the Latin word for -- you guessed that right -- essential, but also the name of Krystal Klear's return to Running Back. While trance might be a state of mind (according to DJ Dag), it's also a tone theory with a very specific tool kit. Here you get the version that makes sense in the aural universe of a producer that got raised on a diet of hip-hop, boogie, and the foundation tunes in house music. Moderate in tempo, the result is still euphoric to say the least: melted brains, stimulated spinal cords, and rave rampage included. "Essentia" balances the euphoric rush of its topical genre perfectly with the happy-sad moments after the rave. If that is not musical or emotional enough for your taste, you will find content in the "Sunrise" version. Excessive use of the well-beloved choir, breakbeats and breakdowns make it equally irresistible for sun-ups and love-ups. Flip the coin for "Winnies Karaoke". Stemming from the same source and session as "Essentia". Named after the interactive entertainment bar in Chinatown NYC and made sometime in the early morning hours, it's the quintessential Krystal Klear. Sawtooth boogie, if you will. Its counterpoint is the "Sundown" mix. Techno prog for the tilted generation. Sometimes, in the permanent search of happiness, the world of tomorrow needs the sound of yesterday made with the means and minds of today. Essential bliss.

MOVE D/DMAN All You Can Tweak 2x12"
The lost tracks -- unreleased material from Move D and Dman. Around the year 1990, a group of producers gathered regularly at a space called "Blaues Zimmer" (Blue Room), located at Bergheimer Strasse, Heidelberg. The Blue Room was the studio of Dirk Mantei aka Dman, and David Moufang (Move D) calls it the one of the "keimzellen" (seeds) for what would happen in regards to the electronic music movement within the Rhein-Main-Area during the following ten years. The '90s were roaring, with a lot of mid-sized cities located relatively close to each other -- Heidelberg, Mannheim, Ludwigshafen, Darmstadt -- and Frankfurt was easily reached. Various highly influential clubs and parties happened around that time and Dirk and David had their parts. Dirk Mantei and David Moufang, Eric D Clark, Robert Gordon, Nils "Puppetmaster" Hess, DJ Cle -- to name a few- all happen to live in Heidelberg and gather around at Dirks place during this time. Discogs calls Dirk Mantei "a katalyst figure in the 1990s techno scene of Southern Germany" and this is for a reason. He was running a record store (Dubtools) and threw legendary parties -- like Planet Bass, Hot Lemonade. When he moved to Mannheim, Dirk opened the legendary club Milk! out of nothing and later ran another club called HD800 (located in MS Connexion). Both were suited with the same famous -- and massive -- soundsystem, acquired and tuned by himself. David calls Milk! the birth place of his name Move D as well as Source Records as a label. Both David and Dirk's first vinyl release ever was a 12" they released on David's Source -- called Homeworks 1 -- four tracks that were released as one of the first CDs on Source Records a year before. Also "Wired To The Mothership" can be found on this CD compilation, a 32-seconds-long track -- and although far too short, it's special. Timeless components woven together in the most wonderful way -- Sheffield-inspired bleeps, timeless pads and Detroitish strings, a JXP-3 organ solo, analog drums and a driving analog bassline -- and then it's gone. When asked, why there wasn't a longer version of the track, David and Dirk said they were not happy with the mixdown back then -- so it took them almost 30 years to finally finish a 2021 full version together. Between 2011 and 2021, they both found themselves in David's Studio from time to time, Dirk was living in Mannheim and some sessions resulted in a bunch of yet unreleased tracks that slept on hard drives ever since then.

GRIT Grit LP
2022 restock. First ever reissue of this ultra-rare acetate (two copies pressed) from 1972, Grit's self-titled album. Featured in Hans Pokora's book with the maximum scale rarity. Psychedelic hard-rock with furious drumming and stunning lead guitar by this unknown until now London based band. Includes the four tracks from the original acetate (taken from the master tape) plus two bonus tracks taken from lo-fi, crude rehearsals: "1000 Miles" (a Grit original) and a killer demo version of "Mineshaft". Born from the ashes of a London band called Merlyn, Grit consisted of Frank Martinez (lead guitar, vocals), Paul Christodoulou (bass, vocals), Tom Kelly (drums, vocals), and Jeff Ball (vocalist). Frank, nicknamed "Spider", has an interesting story: at the beginning of his musical career he auditioned for Joe Meek at his Holloway Road studio. Later, he also played with a band called Grand Union -- who supported Pink Floyd in 1968 -- and with members of the John Dummer Band. An electronic wizard, Frank also worked building amps and electronic equipment at Nolan Amps, MIDAS, etc. Tom Kelly came from a band called Connexion and Paul Christodoulou had played in Merlyn along with Frank. After some attempts, the definitive line-up of Grit was born when Frank and Paul convinced drummer Tom Kelly to join them, after assisting to a Nazareth concert. They also recruited powerful singer Jeff Ball after an ad in Melody Maker. On Christmas Eve, 1972, Grit recorded a demo at SWM Studios and two copies of a one-sided 12" acetate were pressed for promo purposes. It featured four self-penned songs, the killer "Mineshaft" (pure underground fuzz hard-rock), and two lengthy numbers: "Child and the Drifter" (furious drumming, stunning leads, hard-prog moves), and the hard-psychedelic "What Do You See In My Eyes"/"I Wish I Was". 40 years later, one of the two copies of the original Grit acetate was found at a flea market in Germany, which led to its inclusion in the 7001 Record Collector Dreams book by famous collector Hans Pokora. By pure chance in 2019, Alex Carretero from Guerssen found Frank Martinez and he opened his vault, which included the original master tape of the Grit acetate and several tapes with rehearsals from Grit and Merlyn. Master tape sound. Includes insert with rare photos/memorabilia and detailed liner notes. Free download card includes the full album plus another three digital-only bonus tracks, also taken from rehearsal tapes, including cool cover versions of "Chicken Shack" and "Burnin' Red Ivanhoe".

FAZER Nadi (Green Vinyl) LP
Green vinyl. Munich quintet Fazer release their second album, Nadi. Nadi follows the underground success of their self-released debut Mara (2018), which quickly sold out and became one of the most-streamed jazz records of the year. Moving freely between composition and improvisation, the band's spacious, organic sound pitches lyrical melodies from guitar and trumpet over double-drummer polyrhythmic grooves and dub-like basslines. The album title Nadi references a term rooted in traditional Indian medicine. Nadis are channels that connect points of intensity within the body. This reflects the band's feeling while playing of moving as one body. Contrary to the creation of Mara, both the writing and recording sessions for Nadi were completed in relatively short periods of time.

POPP Blizz LP
On his third album, Blizz, Munich-based drummer and producer Simon Popp further blurs the line between electronic and organic sounds. In carefully crafted, slow-growing tracks tuned metal percussions cut through searing synth pads, sucking the listener into a sonic vortex. Informed by personal and spiritual themes, Popp's debut album Laya (SQM 002LP), as well as his 2021 follow-up Devi (SQM 010LP) make use of rhythms as storytelling mechanisms. Contrasting light and dark, organic and synthetic sounds, his compositions engage in a dance of subtle complexities, enticing the listener into the practice of close listening. Throughout Blizz, a panopticon of metallophones takes flight, floating freely over earth-bound counter rhythms, conjuring up call-and-response techniques inherent in polyrhythmic music. This technique favors experimentation over perfectionism, leaving space for happy accidents to unlock new melodic possibilities. According to Popp, "it's much more interesting to try to push the boundaries of an instrument to see what's possible."

STUDIO 1 Studio 1 CD
2022 classic, restocked. The Kompakt label couldn't be happier to announce the return of this long out-of-print CD collection from Wolfgang Voigt's famed and highly influential Studio 1 series. The Studio 1 CD has been out-of-print since 2000 -- the vinyl versions have remained unavailable since their initial pressings. This CD compiles some of the best of the 12" material (plus 5 unreleased tracks). On the heels of the celebrated Gas boxed set release, Nah Und Fern (KOMP 066CD), this CD is an opportunity to glimpse into a legendary series that is celebrated for being the root and origin of German minimal techno. Studio 1 is comprised of edited highlights from the nameless colored Studio 1 12" vinyl series recorded by Wolfgang Voigt in the mid-/late '90s. Cologne artist and Kompakt founder Wolfgang Voigt's (aka Gas, Mike Ink, M:I:5, etc.) most celebrated alias, Studio 1 (pronounced "Studio Eins" and not necessarily a reference to the legendary Jamaican dub productions) is not so much a title but rather a series of ten influential records. Beginning with the Green record in 1995, Voigt began releasing one Studio 1 record after another, with each untitled record bearing only a different color to differentiate it from its predecessor. The records featured a unique style of ultra-minimal techno, characterized by a palette of bouncy beats at varying frequencies, intricately arranged into a spacious yet complex multi-layered rhythm. This palette of bouncy beats owed more to warm dub bass beats than crisp, percussive bass beats, instantly differentiating itself from the traditional sounds of techno. Back by popular demand and more relevant than ever.

Reissue, originally released in 1972. Rhode Island rock band Cannabis are another of those fabled groups that were gone in the blink of an eye. With only an album and a single to their name, issued on the short-lived Amphion Seahorse label, the band's particular brand of harmonic psychedelia and keyboard-driven rock deserved a wider audience, as attested by the high prices afforded original copies of this excellent LP. They're at their best on songs like "See You In The Morning" and "Sleeping Bride," both of which display a strong late-period Beatles influence. Sole LP Eden's Island is a one-off, exotica wonder from 1960 that puts you in Ahbez's dreamy headspace through innovative sound design that fills in the blanks of his seascape, the vibraphones and piano capped by drifting choruses and Ahbez's disjointed spoken words. MASSEYEFF, NICOLAS Endless 2x12"
"Have you ever had this endless feeling of unconditional love for someone or music, between virtuality and reality, which seems to be eternal for your own heart..." --Nicolas MasseyeffFrench DJ and producer Nicolas Masseyeff shares his first album in almost a decade on Marc Romboy's label Systematic. The release brims with lush tones, electronica-flecked rhythms and rich soundscapes, suitable for a club-based audience and home listening. Celebrated visual artist Yann Masseyeff -- Nicolas's brother -- is responsible for the artwork of the release. Raised on the French Riviera, Nicolas Masseyeff started out as a local record dealer before purchasing his own shop, Limelight, establishing it as the most respected vinyl haunt in the South of France. Pursuing music production full-time since the late noughties allowed Nicolas to follow his true path, shaping him into the multi-genre artist he is today. Having released on Herzblut Recordings, Systematic, KD Music, Mobilee, and several other esteemed imprints, Nicolas has worked relentlessly to craft a sound that transcends house, electronica, downtempo and Afro house. Collaborations with Kittin, Oxia, and Parallelle wind throughout his back catalog, as well as remixes for Frankyeffe, Pig&Dan, Nikola Gala, Hot Since 82, and many more besides. Endless offers an insight into Nicolas's spiraling world, detailing the artist's lithe production skills and consideration when collaborating with other talents, like the interdisciplinary singer Kittin. The collection sums up where Nicolas is at now in his career -- a storied producer who continues to evolve, sharing an aesthetic rich in melody while retaining a dance-driven flavor. It's the kind of sound that comes with years of practice, patience, and perseverance.

COMPLEMENTARY MINDS Butch Haynes Introduces Complementary Minds Vol. 1 LP
Terapia Records present the first release of its catalog, a stunning LP by the two founders Luca and Michele (aka Complementary Minds) called Butch Haynes Introduces Complementary Minds Vol. 1. The newborn label launches its ambitious, yet very much considered project, after the debut of one of the two head-honchos Luca Ferrara aka Butch Haynes on Apparel Music and Sistrum Recordings. He metaphorically introduces the first LP by the Milan born and bred duo, who share a deep love for music and a great productive connection. They deliver a brilliant eleven-track album, full of diversified sonic influences and quite representative of their bright talent. The record, which will be presented to you both on vinyl and digital, starts with a couple of masterly produced beats ("Fantastic", "Teacher Carey"), both with an analogous mellow, warm energy, some brilliantly crafted bass-lines and a substantial harmonic presence. The album keeps rolling with the deep feeling of "Flower Diva": its soulful, skillfully arranged vocals and the dreamy synthetic chords help the pair to perpetuate this passionate, balmy vibe. "Insomnia" ends the first quartet of sexy tunes with some seductive improvised spacey key stabs and its delicate pensive chords while "Q Orchestra (The Lost Tape Mix)" speeds up the heartbeat and leads to the closing track of the A side, "Bebi": a gorgeous groovy interlude. B side kicks off in style with the slightly darker feel of "Myers Boogie Man" where the pitched sampled vocals, the solid rhythm section, a profound array of sonic details and a marvelous warm synth melody towards the end of the track make it a true ghetto hit! "Right On", with its broken-beat and a radiant harmonic progression, "Contact 911" with its tight kick-snare connection and some far-out, whimsical chord evolution and "G Buster" with its irresistible slightly acid driving force, pave the way for the grand finale where "Maam", a proper club banger, ends this amazing LP in epic fashion. Butch Haynes Introduces Complementary Minds Vol. 1 is such a cohesive, yet incredibly diversified album and their authors, Luca Ferrara and Michele Fallabrino, achieve the challenging task of telling their sonic story with a flawless work. What a way to start Terapia Records' experience.

ART P No Message LP
Reissue, originally released in 1985. The Outer Edge present the first ever vinyl release of No Message by Art P, a still lesser known and lost masterpiece from the P.A.P. archives. Art P (initially Art Programming) was an electronic music duo consisting of Jens-Markus Wegener and Frank Grotelüschen. On No Message, originally released in 1985, you hear the band's most profound work, a detailed and unique mixture in between of electro and the synth-laden edge of new wave. The Outer Edge initially discovered Art P on the tape compilation Berlincassette 2-85. Their contribution, the title track from their second and last album No Message, blew the label away: punchy drum machines, heavy synths and cool female vocals delivering a serious, yet slightly ironic view on the meaninglessness in pop music having "no message". A couple of months later, when the label finally was lucky to get hold of an original full-length tape, they couldn't ask for more: powerful apocalyptic synth wave on "A Place To Fear", thrilling vocoder electro funk on "Polaroid", up-tempo new wave synth pop on "Sounds of the City", dreamy and melodic electro on "Without Jackets", and other well produced tracks. It was an absolute necessity for the label to get in touch with Art P and ask for permission to re-release their music on vinyl. No Message was remastered from the absolute best original tape source and sounds incredibly well. As a side note it should be mentioned that Wegener later became a key figure in the German music market. He was the founder of companies such as Public Propaganda, Europe's largest and most successful promotion agency in the mid '90s, the publishing company AMV, the distributor PP Sales Forces, among others. As a freelance promoter for SPV and the PIAS label he was also responsible for establishing the term "Electronic Body Music" as a musical genre. Grotelüschen was active as a music journalist (e.g. for Spex Magazine) and later became an important and well-known journalist for science. Fully licensed. Includes insert; blue vinyl; edition of 300.

TROST, HEATHER Petrichor LP
2020 release. "... Third Man Records is chuffed to present to you the New Mexico-based artist, Heather Trost's second solo full-length. Petrichor is fresh, unique, and really fucking good. Sonically, this modern psychedelic pop music is as experimental as it is accessible. Petrichor was recorded between 2018 and 2019 by Heather Trost and her husband Jeremy Barnes at their home studio. The two are community activists, urban gardeners, and full-time musicians. Feel joy now, find the time to watch the sunrise over the mountain/Make the space for yourself for others, we may not have the chance again/Things change so fast, we're not prepared/A precipice may open up anytime, separating us from life once again -- 'Let It In' Trost has an impressive body of work, notably in collaboration with husband Barnes (Neutral Milk Hotel) on their own record label, Living Music Dupli-Cation, and their dazzling and uncategorizable Eastern European folk-influenced band, A Hawk And A Hacksaw, where she sings and plays violin, autoharp, keyboards, and other instruments. In the last two decades, Trost has toured and recorded with dozens of artists, including Beirut, Jospehine Foster, Thor and his Friends, Claire Cronin, the Swans, and her old band Foma. Fans of A Hawk And A Hacksaw might be surprised at how different Trost sounds; she describes the difference as working in 'two different languages.' Trost explains that 'recording music and writing songs reminds me of making a collage or a quilt.' When I was young I laid in the sand of a dry river bed in the desert sun/ I'll think of you in the canyon, winter won't last so long/Petrichor I feel your shadow in the morning air -- Petrichor. These seven lush, beautiful songs defy easy categorization, gleefully mixing elements from multiple genres--but it's never to impress you or show off. You might not even notice how smart the record is until a fifth listen, a testament to how much work was put into the futuristic and shimmering record. We all can have a hard time holding on to a shred of hope. With Trost's, Petrichor, we have a record that sounds like the soundtrack to what might come next, on the off chance that what comes next really doesn't suck. 'Even though shit had yet to hit the fan when I wrote these songs,' Trost says, '2019 also felt like such a crazy year in terms of what was happening in the world, I felt like I needed to remind myself to have joy and love in my heart. It's something I meditate on a lot, especially when it seems like the world is ending.'"

BIRCH, GINA Wish I Was You 7"
"London-based Gina Birch began her storied career in music in 1977 when she formed the feminist punk band The Raincoats with fellow Hornsey School of Art student, Ana da Silva. Gina and Ana witnessed an early performance by The Slits and although neither of them knew how to play any instruments, they knew they had to start a band. Just months after they picked up their instruments, they were on stage doing their thing around London and the UK in the fledgling and groundbreaking punk rock scene. The Raincoats quickly developed a large and loyal group of fans and supporters, among them Red Krayola, Swell Maps and Geoff Travis and his new record label, Rough Trade. The Raincoats went on to record three albums for Rough Trade that are frequently found on lists of the most important records of the punk rock era and are still name checked as influences by artists today. Originally, The Raincoats broke up in 1984 but were talked into reforming in 1994 when Kurt Cobain asked them to go on tour in support of Nirvana (sadly, that never happened). With a renewed interest in the band led by Kurt and Kim Gordon, The Raincoats records were reissued with liner notes by Kurt and Kim themselves. Worldwide tours and a brand-new fourth album on DGC resulted in 1996. The Raincoats still perform today for special events and have started their own record label, We Three Records, to handle their back catalog. Gina is a respected painter, a celebrated filmmaker and video director (directing videos for The Libertines and New Order to name a few) and is a mother of two wonderful daughters. She has formed and fronted the band Dorothy and The Hangovers. In September of 2021, Gina released her first ever solo single, 'Feminist Song', on Third Man Records in celebration of the opening of their brand-new London location. In February of 2023, Third Man will release Gina's brand new and first ever solo full-length album, I Play My Bass Loud, recorded by Martin 'Youth' Glover from Killing Joke and featuring Thurston Moore from Sonic Youth."

From Sasha to Anja Schneider, Henrik Schwarz, and Adana Twins, right through to the ascendent names such as JAMIIE, Kristin Velvet, JOPLYN, and Biesmans, the compilation is an exhilarating snapshot of some of the artists who have shaped Watergate's sound; both via the label and through laying down unforgettable sets at the club over a two-decade period. The highlight heavy compilation charts a course throughout all the deep, dark, euphoric, tech and even pop-laden corners of house music. Henrik Schwarz navigates a classic course via the vibey "You Need Attitude", while JOPLYN brings soaring melodies and arresting vox with "Lima". Biesmans is in characteristic sleek form with the sparkling nostalgic-soaked business of "Basic Bro", before emerging stars Mia Mendi contribute a driving electro jam "Astromech". The iconic Anja Schneider is an essential addition. The Berlin icon brings her A-game with the big piano chords and gospel vocals of "Can't You See Me No More" before handing the baton to Extrawelt who comes strong with a delicious micro house serenade "Rover". Sasha weaves a trademark masterful beast with "Wolf Cider", a dark and twisted weapon that's packed with plenty of groove and low-end attitude. Kristin Velvet's "Wanted Competition" is a propulsive gem that reinforces her position as one of the most exciting breakout producers of the last two years. Adana Twins are always on-point and they don't disappoint with "Nacht" a deviant, distorted house tool the belongs in every DJ's back pocket. Matthias Meyer & Ryan Davis share another ace track with "Genki", a shimmering, drama-laden piece that morphs into a tougher psy-laden finish. New Watergate signing DJEFF crafts an uplifting string-laden ace with "Cloud 7", while Hyenah make an essential contribution with the funky key-driven houser "Going in Circles". Club resident JAMIIE shares the wicked "Echoes", which is pacey and hypnotizing with colorful arpeggios and a latticework of key patterns. The project rounds out on a stunning note with "Tone Trails", a lilting slice of electronica by Watergate stalwart Marco Resmann & Lee Jones, which is inflected with organic guitar and dreamy melodies. The release will be presented as a triple gatefold vinyl using a special ink-spot color effect and will feature a collection of the compilation's key tracks, while all tracks will be available digitally. "Corona" color vinyl; gatefold sleeve; 180g inner sleeves; contains admission voucher for Watergate Club for two people at a night of their choice; includes download code. Also features Ede & Max Joni, Kollektiv Turmstrasse, Stephan Jolk, Gorje Hewek & Joseph Ashworth, Jos & Eli, and Kid Simius.

TAKADA, MIDORI Tree of Life LP
LP version. 180 gram vinyl; half-speed-mastered. WRWTFWW Records present the worldwide reissue of Midori Takada's solo album from 1999, Tree of Life. Originally recorded in September 1998 at legendary Ginza (Tokyo) studio Onkio Haus (founded in 1974 and where Ryuichi Sakamoto's "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence" and many more were recorded) and released on CD only for the Japan market in 1999, Tree of Life is Midori Takada's best kept secret, a lost gem of minimalism and percussive ambient. The album is separated in two parts, the first one finds Takada exploring her trademark environmental soundscapes with precise mastery of marimba, drums, and bells, notably on the magnificent fan-favorite "Love Song Of Urfa". The second half is a collaboration with Chinese virtuoso Erhu player Jiang Jian Hua, allowing Midori Takada to unveil new layers of her artistic mind with a slightly more theatrical approach and a beautiful crystallization of complex simplicity. The entire album was given a fresh new audiophile mix by Midori Takada herself and was mastered at Emil Berliner Studios. This Tree of Life reissue follows two newly recorded Midori Takada albums, Cutting Branches For A Temporary Shelter (WRWTFWW 060CD/LP) and You Who Are Leaving To Nirvana (WRWTFWW 061CD/LP), both available on WRWTFWW Records, along with her 1983 masterpiece, Through The Looking Glass (WRWTFWW 018LP). Design by Kohei Sugiura.
