David Tibet throws himself heartfirst into a single-pointed meditation on loss which is perhaps his finest work to date. He embraces the painful matter of his father's death with a poignant gentleness, without ever turning away from his own grief and sadness, without once denying the apparent meaninglessness of human suffering, and yet, almost miraculously, without ever surrendering his quiet hope that there may be some peace in death, some small beauty in this world, and some hidden final meaning behind unbearable loss. In following an inner vision towards a goal which is quite far from concern with entertainment or image, he has managed to create an album which is both accessible and entertaining (although hauntingly so). Unflinching attention to the particular and the personal has here accomplished the great art of transmuting a private meditation into a universal elegy, capable of containing, illuminating, and assuaging our own private griefs, both small and large. For me this album serves as a rare reminder of the transformative power and purpose of music, and an affirmation that, while words often abandon us to isolation when we are most in need of them, a true poet is capable of the most exquisitely precise communication. "What drives us on?" Sleep offers refreshing balm to those who didn't even know they needed it. It is never preachy, loud or pushy, but with quiet insistence this masterful work drives us to look into blackness, and to see through it into light.

Teach us to pray for the beloved dead,
Since we are blind and know not what is best.

"Pray for rest."

Oh, my lost love, and shall I therefore pray
That thou may'st sleep through an eternal night?
The still small voice of Silence answered "Nay, Pray for light."

Dear Girls and Boys and Cats and Catettes:

We wanted to inform you all about a MessUp—now being rectified—with the two recent C93 reissues on HomAleph.
Firstly, we gave the wrong details of the previously-unreleased tracks on CD II of Sleep Has His House. There were so many tapes, and so many different selections we made, that an earlier track-listing was accidentally added to the HoM site. The correct track-list for CD II of Sleep Has His House is:
Track 1: Immortal Bird (previously unreleased version)
Track 2: The Magical Bird In The Magical Woods (previously unreleased version)
Track 3: Immortal Bird (previously unreleased version)
Track 4: The Magical Bird In The Magical Woods (previously unreleased version)
Track 5: Niemandswasser (previously unreleased version)
Track 6: Sleep Has His House (previously unreleased version)

There should, of course, have been CD booklets in both the Horsey and Sleep Has His House CD reissues. The printers didn’t print them, for reasons we cannot comprehend, although it was clearly stated to the printers that each CD album was to have a booklet in.

We have no idea why this error occurred, beyond assuming that the Covid ViralSpiral Chaos has affected process and product!

So, we are currently printing the booklets, and we will post out for free to everyone who purchased the CDs from HoM. Please note you do not need to do anything; everyone who bought a Horsey or Sleep Has His House CD will automatically be sent their booklet in the post as soon as the booklets have been received from the printers.

'We have also, in the meantime, uploaded the booklets with a track-listing insert, hand-written by David, for the CDs & LPs as a free download, here: https://we.tl/t-mnyCkytup8 David hadn’t wanted to include a track-listing in the CDs’ booklets, or in the LPs’ lyric inserts, but as we have had some requests for them, we are happy to make them available for you all. Furthermore, as a mea culpa for these MessUps, we will be sending, very soon, a link for a free download for some more previously unreleased material taken from the master-tapes of the Horsey and Sleep Has His House recording sessions. David is presently discussing with his colleagues and co-curators on this project which tracks they should be.. So please keep your eyes open for forthcoming news on this.

With Love and Frustration from David+++ and HomAleph+++
