Mysterious UK based reggae label PK Records have somehow dug up aclassic and coupled it with a modern classic on 10 inches of vinyl. TheA-side is a previously unreleased instrumental by The Wailers Band, produced by Clive Chin at Randy's and featuring Peter Tosh on melodica, thus dating it to the early '70s I believe. "Higher Field Marshall" isa simple, slow bass groove with snare and Tosh's melodic meandering forjust under three minutes, followed by a more forceful but unfortunatelyeven briefer dub version. Simple but nice. On the B-side are BerlinersRhythm & Sound, founders of the Basic Channel / Chain Reactionschool of thought. "No Partial" (also found on their recent self-titledCD) gives us the contemporary effected flavor of dub. It may or may notbe a re-working of or tribute to the Wailers' track, but it's certainlysimilar and complementary and catches the same spirit. Are these tracksessential? Not really. But it's still nice to have, especially onvinyl. Just don't stray too far from the turntable because despite thetime lapse effects of this music, each side is over before you know it.-
