EDDIE MARCON Yahho no Potori LP
A Colourful Storm presents the first vinyl edition of Yahho no Potori, a treasured recording by one of the most cherished contemporary Japanese folk outfits, Eddie Marcon. Comprised of the core duo of Eddie Corman and Jules Marcon, Eddie Marcon was formed in Himeji in 2001, following Corman's involvement in noise-rock duo Coa and Shinsuke Michishita's fabled psychedelic outfit, LSD March. Marking a stylistic shift into delicate, acoustic territories, the duo would release dozens of albums and singles, mostly self-released through their Pong-Kong imprint, that have seen little distribution outside of Japan. Recorded over a particularly humid summer and autumn, Yahho no Potori sees Eddie Marcon drifting from the delicate psychedelia of their debut EP into traditional song-based structures. A touching document of joy, tenderness and wistfulness, Marcon's deft yet effortless strum sets a stylish backdrop for Corman's voice to ascend. Desirous yet self-assured, Corman breathes life into an intimate space adorned by the elegant instrumentation of Yashuhisa Mizatani, Yoriro Tatekawa, Ran Mizutani, and Saya Ueno, whose ingenuous collaborative instinct has been gifted to listeners through collectives such as Tenniscoats, Maher Shalal Hash Baz, and Spirit Fest. Here, she also lends her engineering prowess, having produced the album. Devotees of ambitious yet beautifully understated songwriting, as well as followers of Reiko and Tori Kudo, Nagisa Ni Te and Ai Aso, will find much to adore in the songs of Eddie Marcon. An intense and devastating recording, A Colourful Storm is proud to give new life to a shimmering, underappreciated gem.

BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE, THE The Brian Jonestown Massacre LP
2024 repress. black vinyl; superb deluxe packaging. The Brian Jonestown Massacre burst into 2019 with the release of their 18th full-length album, just seven months after their last one, Something Else (AUK 043CD/LP). The self-titled, nine-track album is released on Anton Newcombe's A Recordings, and it was recorded and produced at Anton's Cobra Studio in Berlin. The album was originally going to be released in September of 2018, but due to a hugely successful global tour -- taking in USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Europe -- the release was delayed. Recorded in early 2018, the album features Sara Neidorf on drums, Heike Marie Radeker (LeVent) on bass, Hakon Adalsteinsson (BJM, Third Sound, Gunman, Holy Ghost) on guitar, and Anton Newcombe on multiple instruments. Also making a guest vocal appearance on "Tombes Oubli?es" is Rike Bienert who has sung on previous BJM albums. The band performed songs from the album throughout the European leg of the 2018 tour. Anton Newcombe has been a very busy man over the past few years, having released four critically-acclaimed Brian Jonestown Massacre albums and an EP, one soundtrack album, and two albums with Tess Parks. All releases were fully recorded and produced at Anton's studio. The Brian Jonestown Massacre track "Bon Bon" was used in the 2015 Palm D'Or winner Dheepan. Anton penned the soundtrack for Moon Dogs, a film directed by multi-BAFTA nominated Philip John (Svengali, Downton Abbey, Being Human).

CRYPTO ORDER Skin Bank LP
Skin Bank is the second full-length vinyl release from Italian techno deviant Crypto Order. Drawing inspiration from conspiracy theories, occultism, transhumanism and the New World Order, the project mixes confrontational themes and recycled propaganda with a haunting blend of dark beats and ominous melodies. Thanks to a prolific body of work amassed over the last few years, savvy listeners who have been paying attention to the right places will know him already as an unorthodox force to be reckoned with in today's underground music world. A hallmark of Crypto Order's work is an enigmatic deployment of both sound and vision. Heavy electro-style breakbeats and extra-terrestrial atmospheres create a warped-yet-familiar sound reminiscent of early techno, whilst a compelling visual aesthetic evoking echoes of the early industrial and power electronics scenes infuses it further with a sense of mystery. Themes of power and control have been par for the course in the music of Crypto Order and Skin Bank is no different, manifesting a world that invites the listener to question the reality around them and dive deep into the shadows of their own repressed and murky consciousness. This is a kind of electronic body music which sends you into a dystopian realm of chaos and intrigue, throwing up uncomfortable questions along the way.

K-LONE Catching Wild Pt 2 12"
Wisdom Teeth co-founder K-Lone presents a deep, broken techno vibe on this EP, Catching Wild Pt. 2. Opener "Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah" is a deep and bubbly cut with dubbed-out rhythms and a one-vocal refrain that's looped, panned about the mix and doused in reverb to serve as a trippy hook. Further stabs, deft synth details, whirring pads and neon colors all add detail to this warm, dynamic sound. The fantastic "Elastick" is a tight and kinetic minimal kicker with gorgeously smeared pads. Fresh sound designs bring it to life next to lush background chords that layer in plenty of signature K-Lone color. "Shook" is a dubby and bouncy rhythm with rubbery bass and glitchy hits that hook you into a world of gloopy pads and heady cosmic ambience. Last of all, "Brake Root" keeps the good vibes coming, this time with a tumbling broken beat that makes you shake your body loose amidst balmy pads and beautiful melodic curlicues that ooze late-night soul. UK trailblazer K-Lone heads up the label Wisdom Teeth with fellow producer Facta and has released everything from club-primed garage to innovative home listening records. Whether cooking up kinetic beats and bouncy bass or soundtracking a lazy summer's afternoon with synthesized bird calls and lush marimbas, the London-bred artist is a proven studio wizard. Critical acclaim has come for both his Swells and Cape Cira albums, and now his Catching Wild EPs for Aus Music offer yet another portal into the colorful world of his idiosyncratic, signature sound.

LAM, BRAULIO Close-Up LP
Braulio Lam's Close-Up is a captivating soundscape that blurs the lines between music and photography. Hailing from the border region between San Diego and Tijuana, Lam's inspiration stems from the vibrant cultural exchange and diverse musical traditions of the area. His creativity as a music producer and photographer converges seamlessly into this album, where he manipulates images and sounds, using light as a catalyst for his sonic experiments. The album's eight tracks showcase Lam's eclectic sonic palette, ranging from electronica and dub techno to ambient and trip hop. The opening track, "Prologue," sets the stage with a haunting guitar echo and a spacious, downtempo beat. Angelic vocals float ethereal over the sonic backdrop, creating a sense of scenic grandeur. "Cinestill" immerses listeners in a sub-aquatic realm with its slow-pulsing beat and cavernous ambiance. "Buena Vista Social Dub" captivates with its sensual vocals, echoing drums, and hypnotic melody. "Monika" evokes a sense of beachy tranquility with its electric guitar and ambient soundscapes, while "Mirror" transports listeners into an atmospheric swirl of broken beats and ambient textures. "Eastman" delves into the depths of dub techno, its hypnotic chords and airy soundscapes creating an otherworldly atmosphere. "Winter Light," showcases Lam's mastery of minimalism. Field recordings of natural sounds, sparse guitar plucks, and evocative imagery paint a stark but beautiful soundscape that lingers long after the music has faded. "Tiffen" closes the album on a serene note, its gentle island rhythms and floaty textures inviting listeners to relax and unwind. Overall, Close-Up is a testament to Braulio Lam's boundless creativity and artistry. Its unique fusion of musical styles, experimental sonic textures, and evocative imagery makes it an immersive and captivating listening experience that transports listeners to a realm where the senses intertwine.

CHICHA LIBRE Tequila Y Aguardiente 12"
"Brooklyn's Chicha Libre have been at the forefront of a global movement to revalorize Chicha - psychedelic cumbia from Peru. Chicha was first popularized outside of Peru by The Roots of Chicha compilation released by Chicha Libre's own Olivier Conan via Barbes Records. Chicha Libre started out as a tribute to Peruvian pioneers but have evolved into one of the world's preeminent tropical psychedelic bands. While they remain true to its Chicha roots, their music has taken a more psychedelic turn, drawing from its members' alternative background. Like its mentors, Chicha Libre uses surf guitar, organ sounds and Latin percussion to play a mixture of borrowed and homegrown sounds, but its music is a freeform reinvention, not an exercise in nostalgia. Synth sounds, treated guitars, French songs, classical music and pop debris from three continents contribute to Chicha Libre's freeform approach to the tropical genre. The cumbia beats that form the basis of the music are both as inherent and as foreign to them as they are to many generations of South American musicians who embraced a style they rarely grew up with."

SABABA 5 & YURIKA Kokoro (Blue Vinyl) LP
Blue color vinyl version. Middle Eastern psych, funk, disco, and Japanese folk and pop, converge to create a mesmerizing new sound on Kokoro, Sababa 5 and Yurika's collaborative debut album for Batov Records, collecting four acclaimed singles and four brand new songs. Renowned for their innovative approach to merging Middle Eastern psych, funk and disco grooves, Sababa 5 found their perfect partner in Japanese singer and belly dancer Yurika Hanashima, who having graced stages dancing with Boom Pam and Ouzo Bazooka, found her own voice alongside the group, and together yielded hits "Tokyo Midnight," "Nasnusa," and "Crossroad of Love," earning accolades from tastemakers such as Gilles Peterson, Cerys Mathews, and Jeremy Sole. In Kokoro, Sababa 5 and Yurika present a collection of tracks that transcend cultural boundaries and delve into the depths of human emotion. From the nostalgic romance of "Nasnusa" to the carefree "Halilim Halilim," each song on the album tells a story of love, sisterhood, and the journey of the soul. The title track, "Kokoro", which embodies the essence of the album's musical exploration, refers to the sky, the performers' journey together, and the moment. Psychedelic soul, with touches of the Mediterranean coast and desert. Opener "Empty Hands" explores Yurika's theory that "when you have empty hands you get everything", countered by the hypnotizing keys of Eitan Drabkin over an Afrobeat inspired groove, and bittersweet bassline from Amir Sadot. The playful and summery "Halilim Halilim" was inadvertently named by Dani Ever Hadani of Middle Eastern psych and surf rockers, Ouzo Bazouka, and alludes to how love enters and leaves our lives like the air blown through a flute. Ilam Smilan's exceptional guitar playing stands out, as does the unwavering groove and rhythm of drummer Raz Man. The second half of the record collects Sababa 5 and Yurika's earlier and incredibly popular singles. The attraction of Yurika's mesmerizing vocals over Sababa 5's infectious grooves is irresistible across Kokoro, and the album marks a significant milestone in both their musical journeys. As Sababa 5 continue to redefine their sound, and Yurika establishes herself as a vocalist of note, Kokoro stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and the timeless bonds of music, love and romance.

LIMINANAS, THE Shadow People LP+CD
2024 restock; LP version. Comes in a gatefold sleeve with spot varnish; 180 gram vinyl; Includes CD. "What was old is new again" ... The old adage is so tired that nobody takes its proper measure: all people hear is the word "old", when the important one is "new". Making new things out of old things is an act of alchemy. The proof is in The Limi?anas's fifth album -- no rest for the wicked of Perpignan -- which is blown right open here and there by a few very contemporary guests. After the opener, "Ouverture", with its almost surf-like guitars, comes "Le Premier Jour", where Lionel Limi?ana talks about his rock baptism with the punks, the mods, the skinheads, and the Lambrettas of his youth in the South of France. What comes just after is the seismic shock of "Istanbul Is Sleepy": the Imprimatur of Anton Newcombe of The Brian Jonestown Massacre is simply enormous. Then comes Emmanuelles Seigner's super sexy tornado on the title track; and "Dimanche" follows, with Bertrand Belin. Lionel sees him as a "French Nick Cave who writes songs that resemble films." "The Gift" features Peter Hook who scrapes his bass guitar again here; obviously a song reminiscent of an early period New Order. Finally, the Limi?anas on their own send out an instrumental cavalcade with a furious beat, like a kraut Morricone, "Motorizzati Marie" followed by "Pink Flamingos", introduced with psych rock pads played backwards forming a vaporous song bathed in acoustic arpeggios. A respite in the album... before the fuzz and the abyssal bass of "Trois Bancs" violently shakes the ghost of Gainsbourg: an electroshock in talk over. And to close the scene, a love message: "De La Part Des Copains"; its organ, its tambourine, its quaver, and its brass place it in the classic soundtrack category revered by the band. An ideal conclusion for this incredible, faultless record. The rock n' roll epiphany thus continues. It belongs to those who will listen -- full blast -- to Shadow People and will doubtless feel the urge to plug a guitar into an amp. A valve amp, of course.

STILL HOUSE PLANTS If I don't make it, I love u LP
LP version. If I don't make it, I love u is Still House Plants third album and the fullest embodiment of their sound to date. Where Fast Edit formed with quick attachment and jump cuts, If I don't make it is shaped by persistence -- a commitment to the songs that makes the music solid, warmer and accepted. Marking the trio's decade of friendship, this is the first record written whilst all live in the same city since 2017's Assemblages. The band rehearsed it relentlessly, playing for nobody except themselves, consistently building support for one another and growing the way they play. Jess's voice is deeper. Fin's guitar is full size, richer. David drums harder. Focused on one point together, everyone gets bigger and nothing falls apart. The guitar and the drums blend, raise the voice, make room for what is being said, what is felt. When able to finally record, production allowed layers, gave elasticity, a chance to fully stretch. Playing with length and connections, the band brought in analog techniques -- a Leslie cabinet on "Headlight", sidechaining the snare with the guitar, pushing vocals through cheap DJ software -- each process an attempt to bring one instrument closer to another, to give bass, body, backup. If I don't make it, I love u seeks beauty, holds feeling maximum and builds surety with its sound. The most generous SHP record to date, the music is wide open, demands less. Play it again, it will come clear.

PARKER ORGAN QUARTET, WILLIAM Uncle Joe's Spirit House LP
"A gorgeous soul-jazz organ quartet album that hearkens back to early-mid '60s sessions of similar form; fully revitalized by William Parker's indelible compositions and the generous musical gifts of Darryl Foster, Cooper-Moore, and Gerald Cleaver. A straight-up joy. This very special project was produced by William Parker for his own Centering Records imprint, and dedicated to his Aunt Carrie Lee and Uncle Joe (pictured on album cover). It was created to celebrate the occasion of their 65th wedding anniversary on August 6th, 2010. William wanted to get this album finished in time to gift to them for that auspicious date, and he did! He wrote seven of the songs in Dec 2009 toward the Jan 2010 recording session; 'Ennio's Tag' and 'Oasis' were previously written and they fit in perfectly. The CD was officially released on Centering Records in October 2010. Two pressings were made, and have long sold out. The special one-time only LP pressing was made in time for a family celebration/Organ Quartet performance on May 19, 2024 at An Die Musik in Baltimore. Remastered and re-sequenced for vinyl, the LP includes a full-res download card of the album as originally released on CD, including three additional tracks."

STERNPOST Ulrika LP
"Every so often an album comes along that, from the very first seconds, fills one with a state of overwhelm and wonder, knowing that one has stumbled upon something truly special. Swedish musician Petter Herbertsson has been steadily recording and releasing albums for over two decades with his group Testbild! (not to mention many other projects under various aliases), but he recorded his so-far career defining statement with Ulrika, an album of almost imperceptible beauty. Quietly released at the tail end of 2023 by Sweden's Dilettante Productions in an edition of 199 copies, Ulrika unfolds like a flower in the morning sun, slowly opening and unveiling itself to the world. It's hard to believe that Herbertsson plays all of the instruments on the album, as it is an especially sumptuous affair, with guitar, vibraphone, all manner of keys (including some especially lovely harpsichord), melodica, vocals and more all intertwining with each other. In someone else's hands it could easily have come across as stiff and crowded, but here every instrument is given its proper amount of space to breathe, with an organic feeling of warmth that one just wants to sink into. Although some analogs can be made to '70s era Robert Wyatt, Brian Wilson's lush arrangements or Slapp Happy's charming avant-pop, Herbertsson has done an impeccable job of distilling these influences into his own defined sound. From the production to the compositions, nothing about Ulrika feels modern, the entire affair sounding like it could have been released in 1972 (in the best way possible). Rarely does 21st century music reach the levels of artistic maturity found on Ulrika."

ELEVEN POND Bas Relief LP
"Dark Entries celebrates its 15th anniversary by returning to where it all started, the initial darkest entry: Eleven Pond's masterpiece Bas Relief, an ultra-obscure album from 1986 that would become a definitive dark pop holy grail. Eleven Pond was James Tabbi (vocals, acoustic guitar), Jeff Gallea (drum machine, synthesizer, vocals), Jack Schaeffer (guitar) and Dan Brumley (synthesizer, samples, vocoder, melodica). They met in Rochester, NY, while attending art school, brought together by their shared love of 4AD and Factory Records. Taking cues from acts like Joy Division, Fad Gadget, and For Against, Eleven Pond's infectious basslines, churning guitar riffs, and atmospheric synths will charm all fans of moody music. But what really makes Bas Relief shine is the timeless songwriting on classics like 'Tear and Cinnamon,' 'Portugal,' and the anthemic 'Watching Trees.' With only 500 copies in its initial release, Bas Relief resurfaces with a fresh remaster that corrects a pitch shift from previous reissues. Each copy is housed in a screen-printed jacket, like the 1986 edition, and includes a lyric sheet, two postcards and a bookmark. Bas Relief is a true lost relic of the cold '80s and an essential piece Dark Entries history."

Remastered for contemporary audiences, the original version retains its raw intensity while boasting enhanced clarity and depth. It was perfect to segue from different styles as a DJ. One of my favorites on the mighty Definitive Recordings catalog!" says Josh Wink about the original. ARTIFICIAL PEACE Complete Session, Nov 81 LP
2024 repress; translucent orange vinyl. "This album features the entire session that Artificial Peace recorded in November 1981. At the time, A.P. were on of the leading bands in the D.C. hardcore scene. Three of these songs were initially released on the Flex Your Head compilation, but the rest were shelved when the band unexpectedly broke up after playing for barely over a year. Three members went on to form Marginal Man, who would have a very successful run well into the late '80s. Originally released in 2010."

GRUPO CELESTE ...El Fabuloso! LP
2024 restock. The year was 1974. Until then, only Los Destellos had recorded a non-instrumental cumbia song, "Elsa," in 1970. V?ctor Casahuam?n Bendez?, a musician, creator and the composer behind Grupo Celeste understood that in order to continue the legacy of Peruvian bands from the sixties like Los Demonios de Corocuchay, Los Yungas, and Los Demonios del Mantaro, it was necessary to address in his lyrics a special and urgent topic: the feeling of displacement from the homeland and the vicissitudes of the migrant sector. The experiences of those who traveled from the provinces to the capital in search of opportunities they could not find in their towns of origin; the process of settling and adapting in a foreign city; the challenges derived from this change of environment; the recognition of a different culture and the creation of a space they understood as their own were the stories that had to be told in the songs. This is why Grupo Celeste was the backbone of cumbia in Peru: it established a common story that thousands of migrants would identify with. From this idea and impetus was born En el campo, the band's first single. Never before had the lyrics of Peruvian cumbia been able to touch the reality of migrants from the countryside living in the capital. The band not only wove the nets of that urgent, necessary reconnection, but also gave birth to one of the most relevant popular singers in the history of Peru: Lorenzo Palacios Quispe.

WAND Vertigo CD
"Wand are back, and they're coming down slowly. With Vertigo, what hath Wand spawned? It's multichromatic, that's for sure, but it's too soon to tell. The way cells are replaced and all new again? That's it. Now they are ten and all new again, but in the sample set of the time between they've undergone the complex dimensional restructure, coming out a quartet. So, new-ish, in new ways anyway. The new Wand's built upon the exalted altars of old. There's flashes of sentiment and tension, nudity and evasion, theatrical elevation, giant pieces chunked throughout alongside little bits of things. Allowing for slippage, it's all one: the far horizon drawn in, nearer than ever before, allowing the chance for greater integration, if you stay open. Vertigo is the sound of feet lost, regained, lost again, equilibrium in soft focus, a swaying feeling, more automatic and associative: in time, direct. Determining to work backwards this time, Wand recorded everything in their own studio; pieces cut from improvisations and reshaped, writing from within the performance, without the woodshed. Unconsciously, in the shadow of themselves, and turning round and round (and round), they kept finding that empty space and playing what it implied. Everybody took on a new position in addition to the old one. It was intuitive, strangely ego-less, going somewhere they'd never been and not knowing what they were doing, but committing and recommitting, unafraid to eject in a constant positive forward momentum. It's like folk music for children, with synthesizers and other crap. Raw details with a lush velvet backing. Hear the articular evidence granular within the jams as it flows. Wand are funneling energy, pitching space your way -- more like to stand your hair on its toes with every verse-chorus. Pulling on segments of infinity, boiled down and resequenced, they've devised their own dream gear to drive the old moterik into wide open space, in atmospheric reverb, on perma-globular drift."

BOWLES TRIO, NATHAN Are Possible CD
"The Nathan Bowles Trio's Are Possible is a spark-throwing, undulating fusion of styles played (mainly) on banjo, upright bass and drums. The individual perspectives of Nathan, double-bassist Casey Toll (Jake Xerxes Fussell, Mt. Moriah) and drummer Rex McMurry (CAVE) work together in an easy-rolling manner, but one that contains an expansive, ass-shaking confabulation of ideas. Nathan's solo music-making explorations with the banjo are evidence of the range of possible places to go in the world while still in contact with one's roots: clawhammer boogie, strummed, bowed and percussive techniques, original compositions and traditional tunes, all cutting a path between old-time Appalachian music and its long-lost cousin, ecstatic minimal drone. In conversation with Rex and Casey's own conceptions, with guitar, bass, mellowtone, keyboards, drums and percussion aboard, he continues to ride toward new vistas. It's been a long six years since these three players first appeared on Nathan's 2018 album, Plainly Mistaken, a stretch made weird by the period of time in which social music couldn't be played socially. But again, nothing ever really dies: the time since, experienced as individuals and as a band, informs everything about Are Possible's multitudinous group sound. The details along the road that the band traveled to get here, where one riff blossomed into ten, then melted back down, and parts were added and subtracted and became each other in moments of new collective understanding, lent a unique prog-nosticafication to the possibilities of Are Possible before they'd even recorded a note. Music is time in redux: Are Possible's many moments in time carry details from all over the place. Rex brought a rhythm to the table after drumming on buckets at work, Casey provided a bassline that redirected a previous jam, Nathan brought in a song he'd been fucking with forever and they figured it out together. Their diversity of sources moves easily within the arrangements, rendering a far-ranging set of feels, from transcendental to new country funk to good ol' jazz and the folk-rock, even -- all of it drawn out exquisitely when they mixed at Electrical Audio in Chicago with the delicate hands of Cooper Crain upon the faders. The Nathan Bowles Trio have done their due diligence, passing their music through time and space on their way to now; now, the real trip begins, as Are Possible travels on, through you."

CALLAHAN, BILL Resuscitate! CD
"The date was March 6, 2023. Bill Callahan strode onto the stage at Chicago's Thalia Hall, flanked by Matt Kinsey on guitar, Dustin Laurenzi on tenor sax and Jim White on the kit. They all were feeling good, and it seemed like the crowd was also. But that wasn't all. They had some special surprises planned.""This is a live album that was taken from the tour for YTI?A??. Songs tend to mutate after they've been recorded. These songs were mutating faster than usual. Like whatever happened to Bruce Banner in the lab -- I knew these songs were about to get superpowers. As far as I was concerned, this change needed to be documented. The best thing about documenting something is that it gives the creator permission to move on should they wish to move on. I usually prefer to move on. These songs were recorded in Chicago, America's heart. And at one of the best clubs in the country -- I try to only work with venues that are not entangled with LiveNation/Ticketmaster. Thalia Hall, baby. Stay free. The date was mid-point in the tour, so I knew we'd be as hot as we were going to get. Not too green, not too brown. There was the thought, 'let's take this op to make it something special.' So we took advantage of Chicago's easily accessible players -- we got Nick Mazzarella to add alto sax to one song, and from the opening band, Pascal Kerong'A to sing on a song, and Nathaniel Ballinger on piano on one song -- and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to invite Joshua Abrams and Lisa Alvarado to play on 'Natural Information.' The hardest part of making the record was cutting songs out -- it could have been a triple album. But I don't know, maybe the show should have been this short?" --Bill Callahan

RITMOS TROPICOSMOS La Vida es Pa' Vivir LP
"Emerging from the Oakland underground and the ever-expanding Bay Area cumbia scene, Ritmos Tropicosmos delivers this debut nine-song LP on Econo Jam Records. Song subjects range from the purgatory of the unknown, to love/loss and family with lyrics by lead vocalist Eli Reyes and percussionist/vocalist Lesli Rodriguez. With several hard-hitting instrumentals on tap as well, the groove is ever-present, with a constant ear towards experimental sounds and cosmically drenched psychedelia. Band members have a long history in the Bay Area music scene with players from the cumbia, noise, rock, and electronic music communities. Live shows have been described as 'how you might imagine a party in the underworld' (Nastia Voynovskaya, KQED). This record aims to capture the playful but deep-burning energy of the band's live performances and maybe to even take it one step beyond."

DI DOMENICO, PAK YAN LAU, AND JOHN ALSO BENNETT, GIOVANNI Tidal Perspectives LP
"Tidal Perspectives is an album by Giovanni Di Domenico, Pak Yan Lau, and John Also Bennett. Recorded across a single afternoon in Brussels, Belgium, the album's four parts are a rippling alchemy of processed Rhodes piano, sizzling ceramics, and liquified bass flute, a rare meeting of three unique voices from the contemporary music landscape that manages to flow with the depth and effortless inevitability of the oceanic tides. Giovanni Di Domenico, an accomplished composer and prolific collaborator who has released albums with Jim O'Rourke, Eiko Ishibashi, and Akira Sakata, among many others, initiated the collaboration with Bennett after the two met at a record fair in Saint-Gilles, Belgium and bonded over a shared inquisitiveness for unconventional sonic combinations. Along with Pak Yan Lau, a Belgian-born sound artist and improviser who has developed her own rich and unique sonic footprint, the trio entered the studio with little, if any, discussion beforehand, jumping right into playing without preconceived structures. The resulting recordings had a depth of sound and emotional resonance surprising even them, with finished pieces emerging from single live takes and minor edits. Bennett, known for his solo work as well as his collaborations with Christina Vantzou as CV & JAB, gives listeners here a taste of his bass flute in free-flowing form. Unconstricted by concept, joyfully and lazily bouncing off the melodic shimmers of Di Domenico's Rhodes, Bennett uses his flute's pitch information to trigger long tones that emerge like rays of light piercing through low hanging clouds - moments of clarity among a clicking world of sonic stimuli. Meanwhile, Lau's crackling and sometimes dissonant contributions on prepared piano, live hydrophone, and custom ceramic sound objects balance out the triangle, adding a sense of microcosmic intrigue that allows the music to seamlessly ebb and flow between moments of comfort and misty uncertainty. The album's title track and climax, the eighteen minute 'Tidal Perspectives,' drifts in with some kind of clarity, Lau's glinting tonal waves edging in just beyond the horizon lines drawn by Di Domenico's Rhodes and Bennett's bass flute. But like the tidal flows of the Atlantic that inspired its title, just as you begin to perceive what's happening, the currents have already taken you out to sea."

CAUSA SUI From The Source LP
LP version. On From The Source, Causa Sui's first new studio album since 2020, the band has created some of their most ambitious music ever -- simultaneously travelling through the sonic landscapes that has come to define the group's sound and pushing towards new horizons. With the four bandmember's ties to jazz, experimental and ambient music, Causa Sui is something of an anomaly in the ever-growing European psychedelic rock scene. Always following their own path. Never before has the group's wide-ranging influences been more meticulously weaved together as on From The Source, from groovy Zamrock and electric jazz to floating post-rock, Sabbath riffage and hypnotic kosmische. The album was recorded during months of sessions in their own studio, refining each part gradually through intense explorations, yet keeping room for improvisation and favoring "magic" takes over clinical perfection. The temperament of the music spans white-iron hot and sub-zero chilled with every ebb and flow in between. Dynamic range has always been central to Causa Sui but on this set the band explores it to a new degree -- every track twists and turns, seamlessly leading the listener down unpredictable paths. The pinnacle of the album, and arguably of the band's singular ethos in general, is the sidelong odyssey, "Visions of a New Horizon" -- a 24-minute suite in seven parts. An appropriate closing monument on the album that marks the 20th anniversary of the band.

SUN RA College Tour Vol. 1: The Complete Nothing Is... 2CD
2024 restock. In 1966 Bernard Stollman sent Sun Ra and his Arkestra, along with audio engineer David B. Jones on a tour of five New York Colleges. When they returned, just 39 minutes of music was chosen to be released as the original ESP 1045 "Nothing Is...". 44 years later, after extensive research, producer and Sun Ra archivist Michael D. Anderson has pieced together the missing parts of the infamous New York College Tour. Recorded on May 18th 1966 at St. Lawrence University in Potsdam, NY, this illuminating document represents the full 70 minute first set, of which ESP 1045 "Nothing Is..." was taken, including an introduction by ESP alum Burton Greene. In addition, producer Michael D. Anderson has uncovered a partial second set from the same evening and some rare rehearsal footage recorded during a sound check before the concert. With over 90 minutes of additional material, this two disc set allows a close up look at the band's repertoire and sound over an entire evening, including the rarely performed ?State Street? and alternate versions of ?Theme Of The Stargazers? and ?The Second Stop Is Jupiter.? Remasted from the original tapes and presented in superb quality, College Tour Volume One is a vivid snapshot of the mid-sixties Ra and his intergalactic band.

AYLER, ALBERT Bells/Prophecy: Expanded Edition 2CD
2024 restock. Albert Ayler's trio with Gary Peacock and Sunny Murray is best known for the July 10, 1964, recording of Spiritual Unity (ESPDISK 1002CD), the album that made both Ayler and ESP-Disk' famous when it was released in 1965. A decade after that, in 1975, ESP-Disk' also released, as Prophecy (ESP-3030), the first documentation of the group, recorded a month before Spiritual Unity by Canadian poet Paul Haines at a concert at a 91st Street club. These Cellar Caf? recordings are augmented here beyond the five cuts from the original Prophecy release by another six tracks from the same gig. (This edition uses the more accurate titles found on their release in the 2004 Holy Ghost box set on Revenant, rather than the fanciful titles from their 1996 first issue, as Albert Smiles with Sunny on the German label InRespect. Note also that "Wizard" on CD 1 and "The Wizard" on CD 2 are different compositions.)1965 yielded Ayler treasures as his style shifted. The transitional Bells was just under 20 minutes, originally released in 1965 as one side of a clear vinyl LP, with the other side empty of music. It was recorded at a May 1, 1965, Town Hall concert of ESP artists, displaying Ayler's new group. Murray remained, Albert's brother Donald joined on trumpet, and Lewis Worrell held down the bass slot. The denser sound of "Bells" shows Ayler moving toward the bigger sonic statement made on Spirits Rejoice (ESPDISK 1020CD/LP, 1965), his September 23, 1965, Judson Hall session. By the way, "Bells" as heard here is not, in fact, a single composition; rather, it is a medley moving from "Holy Ghost" to an unnamed theme and then into "Bells" proper. ESP-Disk' founder Bernard Stollman was so excited by "Bells" that he released it on one side of an LP without delaying to record additional music to fill the other side. "Bells" also happens to be the recorded debut of saxophonist Charles Tyler, who would go on to record for ESP as a leader (Charles Tyler Ensemble (ESPDISK 1029CD, 1966), and Eastern Man Alone (ESPDISK 1059CD, 1967)).

CHERRY BLOSSOMS Stars of Tennessee LP
"Well into the third decade of their existence as a musical juggernaut, a new (or at least semi-new) quartet iteration of Nashville's most aggressively shambolic band, The Cherry Blossoms, has recorded this dandy taster of a new LP. And Feeding Tube is tickled pink to bring it to you. Surreal ruralists of the highest order, this version of the Blossoms includes long-time collaborator, Josephine Foster, as a card-carrying member. Josephine has been colluding with the Blossoms for many years, and while most of their meets were live shows that exist only in the memories of those who have witnessed them, some documentation exists in the form of the Mystery Meet LP (FTR 511LP, 2020). On Stars of Tennessee, Ms. Foster adds autoharp, guitar, recorder and vocals, merging with the collective's original members: Peggy Snow (guitar, spoons, kalimba, vocals), John Allingham (guitar, harmonica, vocals) and Chris Davis (drums). Allen Lowery (another regular Blossom) was not around for this session, but Victor Herrero added guitar to a couple of tunes. And what tunes they are. The Cherry Blossoms always manage to evoke the simple pleasures of campfire sing-alongs, with the deep commingling of common interest and intimate friendship that idea evokes, interspersed with the sort of weird, but soft-edged logical jumps associated with the kings of post-hippie hillbillyism, the Holy Modal Rounders. It's not easy to tease apart the specifics of this binary aesthetic operation, but the band manages to pluck the twangers of both innocence and experience with equal vigor -- ambidextrous William Blake aktion of the highest order. The vocal and instrumental blends here range from beautifully pure to emotionally amplified, with lyrical topics that flow from nature's seasonal changes to the war in Ukraine. But everything is bathed in the same crafty light of sophisticated primitivism that illuminates the work of Michael Hurley (who has told me he's a long time Blossoms fan.) The homespun simplicity of this musical approach is wonderfully comforting and familiar, but the lyrics contains enough coded mystery (or at least sublime vaguery) to keep attentive listeners occasionally wondering what the hell is actually going on. And really, the only answer is, hey -- it's The Cherry Blossoms. There's nothing else exactly like them. So do yourself a favor and stock the hell up. You never know when you'll need a jolt of their essential whatsis. But need it you will." --Byron Coley, 2024

CIANI, SUZANNE Buchla Concerts 1975 (2024 Version) LP
Finders Keepers presents these incredible early Buchla synthesizer concerts/demonstrations providing a distinctive feminine alternative to The Silver Apples Of The Moon if they had ever been presented in phonographic form. This record is a triumphant yardstick in the synthesizer space race and the untold story of the first woman on the proverbial moon. If the unfamiliar, modernistic, melodic, pulses, tones and harmonics found on this 1975 live presentation/grant application/educational demonstration had been placed in a phonographic context alongside the promoted work of Morton Subotnick, Walter Carlos, or Tomita then the name Suzanne Ciani and her influence would have already radically changed the shape, sound and gender of record collections. Suzanne was a self-imposed twenty-year-old employee of the Buchla modular synthesizer company, San Francisco's neck and neck contender to New York's Moog. Suzanne Ciani, as one of the very few female composers on the frontline (and also providing the back line) did not lose faith. These "concerts" are the epitome of rare music technology historic documents, performed by a real musician whose skills and academic education in classical composition already outweighed her male synthesizer contemporaries of twice her age. In denouncing her own precocious polymathmatic past in a bid to persuade the world to sing from a new hymn sheet, Suzanne Ciani created a bi-product of never before heard music that would render the pigeon holes "ambient" and "futuristic" utterly inadequate. Providing nothing short of an entirely different feminine take on the experimental "records" of Morton Subotnick and proving to a small, judgmental audience and jury the true versatility of one of the most radical and idiosyncratic musical instruments of the 20th century. These recordings have not been heard since then. The importance of these genuinely lost pieces of electronic music's puzzle almost eclipses the glaring detail of Suzanne's gender as a distinct minority in an almost exclusively male dominated, faceless, coldly scientific landscape. With the light of Buchla and Ciani's initial flame Finders Keepers continues to take a torch through the vaults of this lesser-celebrated music legacy shining a beam on these "non-records" that evaded the limelight for almost half a century.

With this previously unheard vinyl pressing, Finders Keepers Records present an archival project of "art music" that not only redefines musical history but lays genuine claim to the overused buzzwords such as pioneering, maverick, experimental, groundbreaking and esoteric, while questioning social politics and the evolution of music technology as we have come to understand it. To describe Italian-American composer Suzanne Ciani's resurrected Buchla Concert records as genuine gamechangers would be a gross understatement. These records represent a musical revolution, an artistic revelation, a scientific benchmark and a trophy in the cabinet of counterculture creativity. This sonic installation album, alongside her recently liberated WBAI/Phill Niblock 1975 sessions (FKR 082X-LP), are triumphant yardsticks in the synthesizer space race and the untold story of the first woman on the proverbial musical moon. While pondering the early accolades attached to these golden era New York recordings it's daunting to learn that these records were in fact not even records at all. What exists on this disc now was a manifesto and a one-time gateway to a new world, which somehow was only partially pushed ajar. Captured here is a genuine live act exploring new territories with a fully performable music instrument. If the unfamiliar, modernistic, melodic pulses, tones and harmonics found on these 1970s artistic gallery collaborations/live presentations (then soon to be followed by academic grant applications and educational demonstrations) had been placed in a phonographic context alongside the widely marketed work of Morton Subotnick, Walter Carlos, or Tomita, then the name Suzanne Ciani and her infectious influence would have already radically changed the shape, sound and gender of our record. With the light of Buchla and Ciani's initial flame Finders Keepers continues the journey through the vaults of this increasingly celebrated music legacy, illuminating these "non-records" that evaded the limelight for almost half a century.

COLLINS, LYN Think (About It) LP
2024 repress. "James Brown had several incredibly talented 'funky divas' in his late '60s and early '70s stable, including Vicki Anderson and Marva Whitney. But as great as those two powerhouse singers were, Lyn Collins was the strongest hit maker of that funky JB era. Her strong voice and commanding stage presence -- which earned her the nicknames 'The Female Preacher' and 'Mama Feelgood' -- quickly proved to be a potent addition to the People Records universe. In the spring of 1972 her second single, the driving and ridiculously funky 'Think (About It),' hit the R&B music world like a ton of bricks. As fans young and old know, thanks to its timeless, relentless groove and powerful vocals, 'Think' gained a powerful second life in the 1980s thanks to the hip-hop generation, fueling the platinum smash 'It Takes Two,' by Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock in 1988 and additionally sampled by dozens of hip-hop and dance music artists up to the present day. But Collins was far from a one hit wonder: she was as vocally adept on ballads as she was with full-blown funk. She proves this throughout her debut album, which was released in 1972 on James Brown's new People Records label -- the imprint's second full-length release. To wit, aside from the title smash: a powerful and emotional cover of Bill Withers' 'Ain't No Sunshine,' the socially progressive 'Women's Lib,' the Gamble & Huff-penned 'Never Gonna Give You Up' (originally done by Jerry Butler), and even a daring, muscular take on the song 'Fly Me to the Moon,' made famous by, among others, Frank Sinatra. All throughout Think (About It), Collins shows that she was a vocal force to be reckoned with. Backed by a James Brown-assembled musical crew that included Pee Wee Ellis, Fred Wesley, and, of course, James Brown himself, the platter was bound to impress and succeed. And that it did."

HAASTRUP, JONI Wake Up Your Mind (Deluxe Gatefold) LP
2024 restock. Hot Casa reissues Joni Haastrup's Wake Up Your Mind, originally recorded in 1978. Growing up in a royal household in Nigeria, Joni Haastrup began his musical journey performing for his brother's band Sneakers and was quickly snapped up as a vocalist for Orlando Julius Ekemode and his Modern Aces's 1966 Super Afro Soul album (VAMPI 091CD), one of Afro-beat's formative albums. Soon after, Ginger Baker of Cream fame replaced Steve Winwood with Joni on keys for Air Force's UK concerts in '71 and the success of the collaboration led to further shows with Baker as part of the SALT project before he returned to Nigeria to set up MonoMono. Back in London in 1978, Joni recorded his solo gem Wake Up Your Mind for the Afrodesia imprint. Laced with funk basslines, swirling keyboards and screaming guitars, this is Joni's most "western" record but at the same time, unmistakably African in origin. From the slow-motion disco of "Greetings" to the stone-cold groove of "Watch Out" to the Reuben Wilson-style funk of "Free My People" Joni was soaking up the sounds of the times and blending them with the music of his roots. Limited repress of Hot Casa's 2011 reissue. Deluxe gatefold sleeve.

EARTH TONGUE Great Haunting CD
"Earth Tongue, the brainchild of guitarist Gussie Larkin and drummer Ezra Simons, present their second full-length album Great Haunting. The duo, known for their heavy flavor of fuzz-soaked psychedelic rock, are also pleased to unveil their signing to In The Red Records. Earth Tongue's partnership with In The Red stems from a run of shows supporting the legendary Ty Segall throughout New Zealand. Larkin explains: 'Ty's band Fuzz was a significant influence for our sound early on. Ezra and I saw them play live in London about nine years ago, long before Earth Tongue existed. We absorbed a lot of music at that time, and in fact many of the bands we saw released records via In The Red.' Great Haunting sees the duo draw inspiration from the eerie depths of '70s and '80s horror cinema, delivering a sonic concoction of dark and primitive songs with thick layers of fuzz and punchy, compressed drums. The album was engineered by Jonathan Pearce from The Beths at his studio on Karangahape road in Auckland. The ascent of Earth Tongue is testament to their dedication and hard work. They've toured relentlessly across Europe and scored support slots for acts like IDLES and Queens Of The Stone Age. They're consistently selling out headline shows and have featured on festival lineups throughout Aotearoa and Australia."

LAMERE, LIZ One Never Knows 12"
"Pledging to Keep It Alive with her debut album in 2022 (In The Red), Liz Lamere doubles down with her latest full-length second album, One Never Knows, released on In The Red. Dedicated to her late partner Alan Vega, with whom she collaborated on his solo works for over three decades, Lamere's minimalist approach to creating music is clearly in line with the Vega aesthetic that she helped develop with him during countless experimental hours in the studio since the late '80s. Lamere teamed up again with her and Vega's son Dante Vega Lamere in their Dujang Prang NYC home studio surrounded by the Suicide singer's spectacular light sculptures, co-producer Jared Artaud, and mixing and mastering engineers Ted Young and Josh Bonati. Vega had always encouraged Lamere to create her own music. After he passed away, she began writing as a form of catharsis which became the inspirational bedrock for her solo music. Lamere said, 'At the end of Alan's life, he was using the expression 'one never knows' to underscore that we don't know how much time we have in this realm or where this journey will lead us. It was a phrase that had resonated so much for me. Alan taught me to go bravely into the unknown; to be fully present in the moment and deeply explore what is already here.'"

GALAS, DIAMANDA In Concert CD
"Diamanda Gal?s' In Concert is not simply a live album. With nothing but a piano and the full expressive range of her extraordinary voice, Diamanda Gal?s strips away the comforting patina of time, tradition and stylistic convention to expose and express the raw human emotion that is the living heart of a song. It explores an eclectic range of material; rembetika, soul, ranchera, country and free jazz, and her passionate eviscerations reveal their hidden kinship. Four of the songs -- 'O Pr?sfigas,' 'La Llorona,' 'Let My People Go,' and '?noixe P?tra' -- are for and by the forsaken, outcast and debased; the other three are hardboiled love songs. In Concert features select recordings taken from performances at Thalia Hall in Chicago, and Neptune Theatre in Seattle from 2017. The songs are drawn from disparate sources. Diamanda is of Maniati Greek and Middle-Eastern Greek/Egyptian origin, but she was born near the border of San Diego and Mexico, hearing the corridos, ranchera, and ballades daily, so the album draws deeply from both sources. Crucial to her performance are song types with ancient roots, primarily the aman?, a vocal improvisation of Anatolian Greek origin. Aman?s can be defined as a last prayer to the mother by a dying soldier, with the word aman? itself possibly deriving from the Greek word mana, mother. Echoes of aman?s can be heard in the Adhan, the Islamic call to prayer, but in origin it is a primal lament, expressing grief and loss. The origins of the aman? are archaic; its spirit is urgent and timeless.""Ms. Gal?s breach[es] the limits of music, improvising, mixing classical bel canto singing with demonic shrieks, muttering and glossolalic runs. Her vocal range is stunning, though the precise parameter is unknown." --The New York Times"Gal?s shows us humankind as both culprit and victim, a self-destructive pawn that each year grows guiltier, sadder, and more overwhelmed by the weight of bottomless trauma." - Pitchfork

GANDALF Gandalf LP
"If you're as obsessed with unfairly unheralded bands as Jackpot Records are, bringing out a proper, well-deserved official re-release to change that course is always an honor. Case in point, Jackpot announces Gandalf's 1969 self-titled release as one of our proudest moments. Working alongside band member Peter Sando from the original master tapes, it is time for the rest of the uninitiated to catch up with this beautifully crafted haunting psych-pop record (fans of The Left Banke, Kaleidoscope, The Millennium, and The Zombies, take note!). Recorded at Century Sound in Manhattan with Grammy-winning producer Brooks Arthur (who engineered Neil Diamond's 'Sweet Caroline' and Van Morrison's 'Brown Eyed Girl'), the production of the album was created on the spot in the studio with arrangements being thrown about and the incredibly haunted vocals being recorded directly from the band's PA using a Binson Echorec to make this innovative sound (Pink Floyd later used the same echo unit to great effect). Add to that sitars, vibes, B3 organs, harpsichord, minor tragic guitar chords, and bass drones aplenty, and you've got the recipe for an album that bears listening to with eyes closed, music cranked, mind open. So get in on the beauty of this record, and as Sando says on the liner notes: 'Put the needle in the groove, sit back, and take the trip with GANDALF.' Enough said."

WIPERS Is This Real? LP
2024 restock. "Unquestionably Portland's most well-loved punk group, the Wipers formed in the late 1970s and in 1980 released their debut LP, Is This Real? -- twelve songs of stabbing, jittery guitar, snapped vocals, and unabashed teen angst. Full of desperation and yearning, the LP has stood as a blueprint for wretched youth for over 25 years. In the early 1990s Is This Real? was given mainstream attention when Nirvana covered two tracks off the record and Cobain announced it was one of the primary influences on his group. While it was reissued on compact disc and available as a part of the Wipers Boxed Set (Zeno), this is the first time Is This Real? has been available on vinyl in the U.S. since its initial release. Remastered from original tapes as provided by Greg Sage himself, the LP is pressed on audiophile grade vinyl and housed in a deluxe tip-on sleeve. Complete with a printed insert that replicates the original innersleeve, the Jackpot Records reissue of Is This Real? is a lavish tribute to one of the greatest recordings of the last 30 years."

WIPERS Over The Edge LP
2024 restock. "The bleak, hard-driven third LP by the Wipers (originally released in 1983) offers Greg Sage at his most chased and breathless, lashing out with sharp staccato notes as if melody were his only defense. While their debut LP provided the blueprint for grunge, and their second album recast the band as one of America's premier postpunk bands, it's Over The Edge that best exemplifies the Wipers' sound. The jagged, effortless guitar lines, the paranoid lyrics and raw-throated vocals and the taut, unified rhythms that define their sound bleed together most clearly on this LP, and it stands as both the best entry point for new fans and the most prevalent favorite of diehards. Since Jackpot Records began our Wipers vinyl reissues in 2006, we've been inundated with requests for a reissue of Over The Edge. After two years of labor, including an immaculate remaster from the original tapes by Greg Sage, we are proud to present Over The Edge, pressed on audiophile grade vinyl and packaged in a deluxe, tip-on sleeve."

DAL FORNO, CARLA Come Around LP
2024 repress; LP version. Carla dal Forno resurfaces with the news of plans to release her third album, Come Around, via her own Kallista Records imprint. Now, based in the township of Castlemaine, Central Victoria, the Australian artist returns self-assured and firmly settled within the dense eucalypt bushlands. Dal Forno grapples with ideas of home, disorder and insomnia in the swift pop structures of her DIY/post-punk forebearers such as Young Marble Giants, Virginia Astley, and Broadcast. Three years since the launch of her label, Kallista Records, dal Forno finds stability in Castlemaine (pop. 6,750), her third home city in as many albums. After nearly a decade of moving, recording and touring out of Berlin and London, Come Around embodies a newfound solitude born of/in elemental pop hooks and enlightened songwriting. The title track, "Come Around," offers the best example of this confident, fresh candor. It's an elegant invite into dal Forno's sharp new focus beckoning old friends, relationships and audiences into her resettled home. This meandering pop hit strikes between the melodic simplicity of Anna Domino and YMG and the arrangement hooks of The Cannanes and Movietone, capturing dal Forno at her most welcoming with arms wide open. Other tracks like "Mind You're On" recalls the bass driven heft of dal Forno's previous work but where past albums projected the pastoral idyll from the urban jungles of Berlin and London, the lyricism and production on Come Around embody her current lived experience in the Australian regions where space, strong bonds and solitude are in high supply. Returning to rekindle relationships with people and places and joining in trysts amidst the foreboding badlands cuts through the whole record, as on "The Garden of Earthly Delights," a cover of The United States of America's 1968 track. There is joy if you look for it but, as dal Forno warns on "Caution": "I sell caution word of you." Mistrust and doubt are not completely vanquished. Having embarked on such a radical physical and creative journey since the last record, dal Forno lays bare the passing of time and the oscillating waves of energy and ennui that go with it. This is plain to see on "Stay Awake" and instrumentals like "Deep Sleep" and "Autumn," which gives rise to anxiety and insomnia in her new sunburnt home. Yet "Slumber" offers a glimmer of respite sitting within the chaotic circus of production that channels Kendra Smith, General Strike, and The Flying Lizards. This track, a duet with English artist, Thomas Bush, searches for solace in the arms of another. Nothing is left unsaid on Come Around. Having finally found limitless time and space, dal Forno does well not to waste any bit of it.

GAF & THE LOVE SUPREME ARKESTRA Ganzfeld LP
After the resounding success of their last album Garden Island, released in 2021, the octet hailing from Tenerife is back with a new album titled Ganzfeld. While Garden Island drew inspiration from the philosophy of C?sar Manrique and his groundbreaking ecological work on the island of Lanzarote, for this new album, Gaf & The Love Supreme Arkestra turn their creative gaze to the lowland areas of northern Tenerife aka Isla Baja (the low island). Here, they envision a retro-futuristic soundtrack for a misty coastal drive, filled with humid atmospherics and expansive jams featuring their trademark blend of avant-jazz, psychedelia, and freestyle rock. Evoking a natural synergy to the proceedings, this new work presents the octet in a more ethereal tip than its predecessor. Saxophones, trumpet, bass, guitar, synths and marimba come together with added winds (Herre?o and Vietnamese flutes) to create a wide spectrum of auditory escapism that, were it not for the band's aforementioned natural instincts could result into a nightmarish vision. Instead, they create a holistic esoteric sound where sea and earth come together in ecstatic ways conjuring images of peace and menace whilst never letting their raw, explosive energy go unchecked. Another standalone work from a band that rejects banality, constant in their pursuit of experimentation at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. Drive on! Music written and produced by GAF Recorded live in 2020 in Tenerife Canary Islands. Produced by Mladen Kurajica. Mixed by Jorge Lozano. Mastering by Daniel Baez. Artwork Felipe Gonz?lez Cabezas. SALETILE Saturno 3 -- Atmosfera 0 LP
Sal?tile return to the Keroxen tenfold with their second long play of '60s inspired psychedelia and neo shoegaze tunes. With its members hailing from a particular area of northern Tenerife with its ever present "panza de burro" -- a layer of insistent low clouds overcasting the region -- the tone and feel of Sal?tile's music had to be naturally clouded and somber. A periphery sound from the periphery then, a local approach of a popular sound with a calm and serene attitude. While their first album, Humanoides del abismo ("Humanoids of the Abyss"), evoked an underwater journey, for their second outing Sal?tile emerge swiftly into the surface to continue their peculiar sound explorations of their precious surroundings, adding different layers of pressurization. A more pronounced melodic intention is present but without abandoning the care for textures and atmospheres that defined their debut, as well as the use of contemporary techniques such as looping and real-time processing, encompassing influences as diverse and timeless as classical music, 1950s R&B, 1960s pop, hip-hop, dub, 1990s English shoegaze, concrete music, slowcore, or math rock. A loopy pot of sources from a hermetic band that is not afraid of pushing their many influences to the foreground. Sal?tile are Daniel Garc?a, Elsa Mateu, and Ruym?n Garc?a. Mastered by Daniel Garc?a. Artwork by Gustavo Garc?a . Vinyl pressed in Spain.

VA Living Country Blues USA Vol.2: Blues On Highway 61 LP
Living Country Blues USA is a series of albums on L+R Records. The material was collected by German blues experts Siegfried A. Blues On Highway 61 features James "Son" Thomas, Sam Chatmon, Walter Brown, Joe Cooper, Cleveland Broomman, and Eddie Cusie. Feeling lonesome, being down and out, nowhere to go, walking the highway up and down, riding the Greyhound bus, catching a freight train -- all central themes in blues, and the men you can hear on this record have lived the blues and this was reality to them. The blues has always been more than just one person's story, they are reflections and descriptions of a common lifestyle and experience. These artists tell the truth -- the truth about being a black man in Mississippi, across the United States. The artists you can hear on this record all came from the same region of Mississippi. Their communities were centered around 61 Highway and lay only a couple of miles apart. Many blues have been made about 61 Highway. Linking rural Louisiana and Mississippi with northern industrial areas, thousands of blacks have travelled this road in hopes of a better life and future.

BOWLING GREEN JOHN CEPHAS & HARMONICA PHIL WIGGINS Living Country Blues USA Vol.1 LP
Living Country Blues USA is a series of albums on L+R Records. The material was collected by German Blues experts Siegfried A. Christmann and Axel K?stner on an extended trip through the south of the USA in the fall of 1980, in the form of so-called "Field-Recordings" -- recordings made in the natural surroundings of the artists and not in the studio. Vol. 1 presents Bowling Green John & Harmonica Phil Wiggins. What is so remarkable about the duo is their intensive commitment to the black blues and gospel tradition -- without diminishing the quality or spontaneity of their performances. By hearing John Cerpas with his guitar, one quickly gets impressed by the power of his playing. Deeply rooted in the so-called "Piedmont" blues tradition of the East Coast, ragtime influence and complex rhythms produce a strong emphasis on melody -- much in contrast to the harsh Mississippi blues with its hard beat and drive. When recording this album, Phil Wiggins was 26 years old and despite his young age he already could be rated as one of the top blues harp players. Influences include Hammie Nixon, Sonny Boy Williamson, Little Walter, and Shakey Hotton. He played alongside Flora Molton, Archie Edwards, Big Chief Ellis, the late Esther Mae "Mother" Scott, and John Jackson, as well as jamming with such well-known blues veterans as Sunnyland Slim, Johnny Shines, and Louisiana Red -- shaping his technique to perfection, be it in the country blues or with amplified harp in the best Chicago tradition.

TIWALINE & FOREST DRIVE WEST, AZU Fluids In Motion 12"
Three years in the making, Livity Sound alumni Azu Tiwaline and Forest Drive West combine their distinct but compatible styles into an EP of advanced, reduced sound system immersion. The idea for the collaboration took shape not long after Tiwaline's first Livity release, the Magnetic Service EP, and the pair took time to settle on a sound set which now shapes out Fluids In Motion. Drawing on a cohesive palette, the tracks they pieced together in a remote exchange between Tunisia and the UK explored a variety of tempos and rhythms ranging from pure ambience through to spring-loaded 4/4, with a focus on minimalism and dub-spirited spatial sound design. The end result naturally evolves from each artist's existing work, matching subtlety and space with intricate detail to present a complete, considered release that runs as deep as an album over the course of four tracks. Livity Sound is a label set up by Peverelist in 2011 as a vehicle for a raw and exploratory strain of UK techno, rooted in the heritage of UK dance music and sound system culture. It has since become one of the UK's foremost protagonists for cutting edge underground electronic music.

On the flip-side, ROTCIV showcases his signature style of industrial new beat madness: "Frenesy" marries breakbeats with syncopated synthesizer sequences, "No More Room in Hell" sound like a late '80s Italo Disco instrumental on steroids, while "The Confidence" opts for broken beats and ethereal FM-flutes. As a digital bonus, ROTCIV presents a heavy hitting, acid infused track by the name of "Living Art."

MELJA, NATHAN Triangle d'Or Part 1 12"
Welcome to the Triangle d'Or by Nathan Melja. The first opus of a series to come out on his label Parodia, this record is an ode to those Parisian nights where the prestige and extravagance are prior. Showing a strong willing to integrate elements from the mainstream world in his creative process, the EP opens with the contemplative and emotive "Stargazing." You're walking down Champs Elys?es, looking at the sky. In a fraction of a second, everything starts to move in slow motion. You're passing out, your eyes stuck on moving stars. It was all a dream, they say. As you wake up, you're sitting next to a glossy club. "UnDcided" is blasting out of that neon door. You get lost in its colorful and trippy intro before your head starts to feel the vibrations of its wobbly baseline. You need a cocktail to get your night started. You enter the restaurant next door. "Welcome!" is playing in the background. That's Patrick Holland on the guitars you just tried to Shazam! Like the missing piece is not missing anymore. One too many drinks -- you got lost in the groove of the night. It's time to go home. As you leave the club, the sounds of "Bblluurrryy" are floating in the air, every noise you hear melts into the music. Everything looks hazy. Nothing feels the same anymore.

EINSTURZENDE NEUBAUTEN Haus Der L?ge LP
2024 repress; 2002 release. Gatefold LP version. This is the fifth album by Einst?rzende Neubauten, originally released in 1989, now remastered. Highly energetic and possessed of a certain level of danceability, Haus Der L?ge was perhaps the most accessible for the band so far in terms of straightforward industrial-rock, with less grinding experimentation. However, this album is far from any sort of mainstream convention, with some of the most convincing alchemy of the best of the group's sonic clang, combined with some of the most captivating singing by Blixa Bargeld yet. This album showcases all the best aspects of the band's musique concr?te experimentation reigned in by impressive song-structure that doesn't diminish any of Einst?rzende Neubauten's conceptual or ear-bashing impact.

The album opens with the startlingly oppressive, almost fully a cappella title track, with contrapuntal, atonal, en masse chanting. The album progresses to include quite a repertoire of electronically-generated sounds, finding the band developing their mishmash of industrial experimentation matched by terrifying clangs, stomps, and of course, the theatrical, poetic vocal delivery of Blixa Bargeld. An incredibly aggressive album, with insistent, pounding rhythms and razors on metal, and Bargeld's voice dominating your dreams for a month after listening.

MAL-ONE Punk Rock Clothes For Heroes 7"
The punk movement also came fully clothed. Mal-One's new single talks about the fashion side of punk that ran parallel to the music. These clothes were supplied from Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwoods emporium situated at 430 King's Road, the epicenter of the punk movement itself. The clothes were not cheap and you needed deep pockets to buy them. But you also needed an attitude to wear them, as many factions were not so appreciative of them, especially the "Teddy Boys." You had to run the gauntlet of the King's Road on a Saturday from Sloane Square to the Worlds End. A tricky mile, in which you always had to keep your eyes open from enemy attack. The clothes were pieces of art and deserve their time in the spotlight and perhaps even in song. Hope you appreciate the gesture. Respect to that.

FAIRPORT CONVENTION The Broadcast Album 1968-1970 LP
In this release, listeners navigate the uncharted waters of Fairport Convention's early voyages across the UK, European and American airwaves. Fairport initially focused on covers of future classics by US/Canadian singer-songwriters such as Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Richard Farina, and Bob Dylan, but delivered these covers in increasingly extended electric versions, becoming England's answer to Jefferson Airplane. Within two years the band evolved into the prime-movers of British electric folk-rock, mixing electrified traditional songs with outstanding original material provided mainly by Sandy Denny and Richard Thompson.

HAINO, KEIJI Black Blues 2CD
Keiji Haino is, without question, one of the truly iconic artists to rise beyond the dusk of the 20th century. An artist focused singularly of the beautiful visceral promise of music, his practice is a many-headed beast taking in movements from the gentlest of guitar play, through free improvisation and noise. As divergent as the work might be, it is held tightly by his unique way in sound, one that exists moment to moment with a force like no other. 20 years since its first release, Black Blues remains one of his most provocative recordings -- a collection of 6 songs, recorded twice over. One version "Violent," the other "Soft"; and the differences could not be more radical. Black Blues exists at both margins of Haino's sonic spectrum. At the Violent end, each piece is delivered with a sense of tangible intensity. In some moments it is as if listeners are inside Haino, his voice completely consuming all it comes in contact with. The guitar, carving a path that is part rhythm, part harmony, its tenderness cradling his voice with a determination and generosity. By contrast the Soft versions are almost lullabies, all be it ones that carry a mournful and anguish ladened atmosphere. Here the guitar splays out into clouds of reverb that shimmer at the edges, housing a voice which is constantly seeking a deeper resolution within the songs. Gentle but never settled. Black Blues captures the dynamic form of Keiji Haino's work in its most raw form; voice and guitar. The songs encapsulate a very particular portrait of an artist whose work only continues to grow deeper in is wonder and profundity.

ROSE, JON Aeolian Tendency CD
A note from Jon Rose: "Characteristically invisible and inaudible, the wind is made manifest solely by its agency and performance on objects: huge waves crash to shore, sand dunes edge forward over millennia (rumbling as they go), cyclones uproot trees and houses, intergalactic winds confound the planets. On a more modest scale, I've been building aeolian instruments since 1979, part of my investigation into the innumerable aspects of the vibrating string. I designed the two recent aeolian instruments heard on this album, the Monolith 2021 and the Tube 2022, with a focus on engaging with the variable windy conditions experienced in central Australia. The bodies of these instruments are flanked on all sides by multiple strings. The 1.25-meter Monolith is made of plywood, with 36 strings of both piano wire and fishing line. The Tube is literally a 2-meter PVC pipe and is fitted with fishing line only. Discrete adjustments can be manually made if the wind shifts or if the operator wishes to engage other adjacent strings, often resulting in microtonal beats. The Monolith is set up with contact microphones cut into each bridge, and the Tube was recorded with air microphones inserted internally. Tuning rational has as much to do with tautness, thickness, and material quality of string as actual pitch when in a state of 'excitation' -- this violinist's intuition. These aeolian experiments are ongoing and may go some way to designing an instrument that simultaneously handles both the von K?r?n vortex effect and unpredictable wind patterns. The results so far have generated numerous sonic surprises."

STONE MUSIC July 15, 2022 CD
A note from Hasegawa: "The first LP by the Taj Mahal Travellers was recorded at Sogetsu Hall in Tokyo on July 15, 1972, which became the title of the work and was released the same year by CBS Sony Records. A live performance celebrating the 50th anniversary of this album was held on July 15, 2022. The only original members of the Taj Mahal Travellers who attended were myself and Seiji Nagai. This is because two of the six members passed away, two are religiously active and they cannot play music according to their belief, and the last one has lost touch with us. Therefore, young musicians were recruited to perform with us. This performance was a spark of improvisation that broke 50 years of my silence. Let me recall a little about the day of the concert. The venue was a live house called Forestlimit Hatagaya, about 20 minutes by car from Shibuya. In the pouring rain, we ended up entering a narrow alley from where it was impossible to reach the place by car, so after unloading my instruments, we had to head back to a wider road and find another route. The venue was small and located on the basement floor. Among performers and stuff members we were more than ten people, and including the audience, in total about 60 people gathered on that day. Indeed, the place felt packed like a crowded train in Tokyo. Many of the performers were meeting each other for the first time, and not only the audience but the participating musicians themselves could not imagine what the performance would be like. For this live performance, I asked my friends to perform stone, shadow, bamboo, and gorilla."

GUIDED BY VOICES Sandbox (Blue Vinyl) LP
Blue color vinyl. "Even back in 1987, Guided By Voices was not content to release just one album in a year -- Sandbox was released in the summer of that year following Devil Between My Toes' appearance that February. Likewise, in similar GBV style, the sound and approach of the two albums could not be more different. Where Devil mostly mines a darker, lo-fi psychedelia, along with several instrumental explorations, Sandbox is sunny, direct, has a bigger, crunchier sound, and zero instrumentals. Where Devil has a murky and impressionistic black and white photo of a rooster for a cover, Sandbox sports a full color photo of the band relaxing on a lawn on a sunny day. Let's also recall that unlike today, in 1987 a full-color album jacket wasn't just a little more expensive than a black and white one, it was way more expensive. Right up front, the band was communicating that this was a more commercially ambitious endeavor, while behind the scenes they rented better gear for a bigger sound, and tackled more sophisticated arrangements and honed in on the hooks and harmonies of the songs. Of all the band's early self-released albums, Sandbox differs the most from the sound fans would later associate with the group, which is in itself a recommendation. Nowhere else will you hear the perfectly rendered three-part harmonies of 'Long Distance Man,' direct Beatles quotes, or Robert Pollard reveling in his southern Ohio drawl. It's also true that one of the more enjoyable aspects of the record is finding all the places where the band's future is indeed foreshadowed. Simply put, Guided By Voices just can't help but be a little weird, even when attempting something like a power pop album. At the close of the opening track, Pollard announces, 'Ladies and gentlemen! Back by popular demand for your entertainment and spiritual enlightenment; Electric Jam Soul Aquarium!' a truly 'wtf is happening here' moment. Or the stripped-down gloom of 'Trap Soul Door' -- a track that could be right at home on nearly any later GBV album wherein Pollard intones, 'Just one spark can start a hell of a fire.' Little did he know how true that statement would become."

ALBRECHT, ALEX Aurora 12"
Alex Albrecht returns with Aurora -- a pristine follow-up to his Blue Caves transmission via Scissor and Thread in 2018. The Melbourne based composer and sound designer Albrecht has leans into his predilection for woozy, affecting melodies intertwined with skittering drums and snaking grooves, and Aurora brings that to the fore with six tracks of shimmering beauty. "Spring Orchard" opens the record, effortlessly merging deeply buried keys with washes of dreamlike synths, and dubby effects. "Wildflower Walk" is a melancholic affair, underpinned with a restless groove. The title track "Aurora" treads a similar path, but with a more driving approach, while an interplay between piano, guitar, and synths drenched in reverb offer a warm, enveloping atmosphere. "Aurora" is also shared here as a remix by Roza Terenzi, who entirely reworks the track with her signature club ready grooves. "Kennett River" exhibits a kind of smudged, cinematic hip hop feel.

Brasseur, Les H?lions, Chicken Curry & His Pop Percussion Orchestra, Placebo, Black Blood, S.S.O. (feat. Douglas Lucas & The Sugar Sisters, Nico Gomez & His Afro Percussion Inc., and Chocolat's. The best Belgian dance tracks from the beginning of the '70s. Dire times, they were, full of poverty and hardship. To make a living out of popular music was a near-impossibility in a small country like Belgium. This precarious situation, though, proved to be a blessing in disguise for creative minds. When it's hard to get your hands on some money, trying out as many things as you can seems the logical thing to do. On the other hand, if there's hardly any money to be gained anyway, you may just as well play what you bloody well like. That's what Belgians like to do anyway. Moreover, living in a country where virtually every musical wave passes through also inspires. In the early '70s, those waves were (Afro-)funk, soul, and Latin. The situation as a whole was a favorable one for some visionary musical entrepreneurs. Jean and Roland Kluger created a musical dynasty, American-style, with successful acts like Chakachas and Two Man Sound. Their rival, Marcel De Keukeleire, scored worldwide hits with Amadeo, Chocolat's, and "The Birdy Song." Relying on zealous energy and a shamelessly commercial logic, every effort was aimed at success, so they jumped on as many international bandwagons as they could and tried out their own variants on the local market. Nearly every style in the post-war scene is represented here: Hein Huysmans' jazz-funk, the jazzy prog-rock of Cos, or the fusion of Open Sky Unit. And of course there's Marc Moulin, a name that needs little or no introduction. This is the missing link between the variety orchestras of the '60s and the electronic triumphs of Telex in the late '70s and early '80s. These tracks offer the same sense of adventure and slightly surreal pigheadedness that are also present in the best Belgian contributions to dance music. Think Front 242, Technotronic, or Soulwax/2manydjs. This is the ground they built upon.

EDWARD Eddie Green 12"
Edward delivers his latest collection of works, the Eddie Green EP via Smallville Records, comprised of four originals. For the past decade and a half, Frankfurt-original Gilles Aiken, better known to most as simply, Edward, has been unveiling his productions regularly via the likes of his most regular home Giegling, but also Baby Ford & Eon's Trelik, White, Die Orakel, or DFA, plus teaming up with Ricardo Villalobos in 2020 for their Disordered Rhythm Metronomy project on Perlon. Here though, Edward marks his debut for Smallville Records, a fitting home for his deep, dynamic and hypnotic style which regularly blurs the lines of house, techno and beyond. Up first is "Primal Dream," a raw and reduced journey through modulating synth flutters, squeaky percussive twitches and a bumpy, robust rhythm section. "Blue Glue" follows and diverges into a more mystical sonic world with haunting chants, resonant synth licks, meditative chimes and ethereal textures intertwined with crisp, crunchy drums. Title-track "Eddie Green" opens the B-side, embracing a more dubbed out, deep techno aesthetic via murky chord swells, clattering organic percussion, throbbing low end pulsations and vocoded spoken word vocal lines. The aptly title "So Slow" then rounds out the release, dropping the tempo and shifting focus Edward's more jazz-tinged influences with wandering piano melodies and soulful vocal chants uttering the track's title, underpinned by shuffled drums and waves of sporadic oscillating synth.

CONG, OLIVIER Tropical Church CD
With Tropical Church, Hong Kong based composer and musician Olivier Cong transposes the humid nights of the rainy season into a fluid audio postcard that speaks to contemporary life in his home city-state. His pieces dwell with a sense of intent, shifting between the sprawling cascades of human traffic, to the moments experienced alone in environments that maintain a strange familiar. Known for his work on film and theatre, Cong's approach is one of generous texture and minimalist forms, each of these contoured by a strong and deeply personal sense of harmony. Tropical Church is a recording that speaks to the emergent generation of new Hong Kong composers and sound artists. It is a gateway to a new audio vision of Hong Kong.A note from Olivier: "In Tropical Church, you will experience music composed of piano, ambient electronics, shakuhachi, Chinese yuan, guzheng and spoken words, which I think represent my feelings for home -- Hong Kong. And to me, home is an old church that harbors a myriad of unspoken emotions, flowing from the West to East. Complex history hidden within the dampen pillars, the sounds of the city and the foot-steps of the everyday people that liven up the streets. Most notably in the first track, 'I am afraid of', voice recordings of anonymous strangers were collected describing their deepest fears. I'm most touched by the answers as they've shown me the same fears of death, love and being alone we all share."

BRUGNOLINI, SANDRO Overground LP
Sonor Music Editions presents this restored reissue of Maestro Sandro Brugnolini's Overground. This elusive masterpiece in library music captures the most impressive work, alongside Underground (1970), of the Italian composer and alto sax player. Overground was released on Sincro Edizioni Musicali in 1970 as the soundtrack to Enrico Moscatelli and Mario Rigoni's documentary Persuasione, commissioned by Ente Provinciale Per Il Turismo Di Trento, a local tourism board in Italy, with music composed by Sandro Brugnolini and Luigi Malatesta, featuring some of the best musicians in Italy at the time like Angelo Baroncini and Silvano Chimento on guitars, Giorgio Carnini on piano and organ, Enzo Restuccia on drums, and Giovanni Tommaso on bass and effects. The music spans from underground psychedelic prog rock with swirling organs, trippy effects, and distorted fuzz guitars to sophisticated Lounge grooves with avant-garde orchestrations. The music has been transferred and remastered from the original master tapes. It has been lacquer cut in stereo by Jukka Sarap?? at Timmion Cutting and packed in a thick cardboard sleeve featuring a fully restored painting by Umberto Mastroianni licensed by Centro Studi dell'Opera di Umberto Mastroianni.

For this record he relied on his favorite combination, a mix of various effects pedals and noise generators. Nicolas Horvath is a pianist of exceptional sensibility. More than well-versed in the classical repertoire, he also is fundamentally curious and multifaceted, as evidenced by his rescuing works and composers from oblivion, championing them on stage and patiently, carefully recording them. Nicolas Horvath also improvises and composes electronic music. Since the early 2000s, he has been active in the experimental and underground scene under many different names, especially Dapnom. A collaboration with Merzbow had already been considered some fifteen years ago. In the midst of forced isolation, it was all the more tempting to meet symbolically, following the ways of the World Wide Web. Pia-Noise is actually a project born from the health crisis and lockdowns, carried out from different homes in days of anguish and uncertainty. Both artists thus projected their worries about the ongoing crisis and today's ecological disaster. The music produced took on the shape of a constant struggle between, on the one hand, Merzbow's continuous release of energy, saturated sounds, masses, stridencies, powerful granulations, surrounding textures, chaotic rhythms and organized chaos, and on the other, Nicolas Horvath's improvisations, sometimes lyrical, sometimes harmonic, always deeply rooted in his classical culture and personal pantheon, like a memory of a golden age forever lost. No listener will escape it as they lend a careful and sometimes all but desperate ear to the raging soundwaves. The two continuous musical lines often collide and even seem to ignore each other every so often, but they also meet and complete each other, helping the compositions breath. This confrontation generates a great opulence of sound calling for an extremely active form of listening. In the midst of a global wreck and a period of upheaval, two artists still manage to communicate from one digital raft to another, and render the poetry of a moment. Comes in four-panel digipack with eight-page booklet.

FAFCHAMPS, JEAN-LUC Ensemble(s) CD
Seen from the outside, Ensemble(s) is in a sense a kind of compilation of unreleased or rare pieces covering nearly three decades. Five essential pieces that count in the evolution of the Jean-Luc Fafchamps' writing. Post-spectral works that definitively position Fafchamps as one of the important European composers. It also weaves subtle links between him and Jean-Paul Dessy and Musiques Nouvelles, once created by Henri Pousseur. This disc is undoubtedly the best introduction to his work. Performed by Musiques Nouvelles. Conducted by Jean-Paul Dessy."At the instigation of Jean-Paul Dessy, the Musiques Nouvelles ensemble initiated all sorts of configurations to which I was often associated, and glad to be. This album is the journal of these criss-crossing collaborations: sometimes as part of the ECO (European Contemporary Orchestra) project, through which Musiques Nouvelles met the Ensemble T?l?maque (from France) and Orkest de ereprijs (from the Netherlands) in a large orchestral formation; sometimes for a project produced with Art Zoyd (France); sometimes as a string ensemble or with Claire Bourdet as a soloist. I am glad to present, united in one album, such different periods, contrasting collaborations and multiple encounters not merely due to coincidence but also to affinities. May my style, and the story of my questionings, give a certain consistency to this ensemble of beautiful collaborations." --Jean-Luc Fachamps

PANGEA DE FUTURA War Milk LP
Octet supergroup lead by Eric Quach aka Thisquietarmy. Including three drummers, guitar, synth and brass players (who also play in bands such as Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Exhaust, Hanged Up, Avec Le Soleil Sortant De Sa Bouche, and more); Pangea De Futura brings together the merged and emerging territories of Montreal's exploratory music scene. War Milk is the debut studio album from the supergroup, an octet that has been exploring since 2019, the many ways of -- slowly -- constructing massive textural musical shapes and droning tribal post-rock ambiances. Each track simultaneously encapsulates its structure emerging from and within a flux, alongside its impending entropy, creating a suspended moment. This intense experience is crafted through the combined rhythmic contributions of Aidan Girt, Eric Craven, Samuel Bobony, the merging brass arrangements of V?ronique Janosy, Re?el Ordo?ez, Neboysha Rakic, the electronic textures provided by Charles Bussi?res, and the intense drones/soundscapes created by Eric Quach's guitar playing. Eight musicians, involved -- in total -- in some fifty projects from the Montreal scene.

OBERLAND/GREGORY DARGENT/TONY ELIEH/WASSIM HALAL, FREDERIC D. SIHR CD
After a few concerts/screenings improvised as a duo in Cairo and Beirut, as well as for the Rencontres d'Arles, the Lille photography center and the Belgian magazine Halog?nure, Dargent and Oberland have teamed up with mavericks Elieh and Halal for a puzzling cross-border manifesto. The first sonic moves of this eclectic quartet, made in a bunker studio somewhere between Paris and Berlin, urgently took the form of a quest, that of a neo-folklore for troubled times, a music seeping with many kinds of atavism and experimenting in all directions. A fertile no-man's-land where trance and contemplation, jazz and electronica, acoustics and electricity would merge in a stimulating mystical magma. From the possible emergence of a Babelian language to the shared desire to rediscover music as a ceremonial act, this encounter took place over three days of improvised sound bacchanalia, the phases of which were all recorded by Benoit Bel (Zombie Zombie, Thurston Moore Group, Oiseaux-Temp?te). A hallucinated and generous testimony, SIHR is a synergy of many different worlds and many different possibilities, the sonic vision of a present conjugated in a hybrid tense and exalted by too many tangos danced. Multi-instrumentalist and photographer, Fr?d?ric D. Oberland has been leading the Oiseaux-Temp?te collective for over ten years, lying somewhere between avant-rock and free jazz, repetitive music and electronics. Founding member of the bands FOUDRE! and Le R?veil des Tropiques, he's also performing solo and composing soundtracks for cinema and installation art. Electric guitarist, oud player, composer and photographer, Gr?gory Dargent cultivates his musical schizophrenia and identity through improvised music, trance music, jazz, hijacked maqam, repetitive music, pop, electro-acoustic installations and French chanson. Tony Elieh is one of the pioneers of experimental music in Lebanon. A founding member of the first post-rock group of post-war Lebanon, The Scrambled Eggs, he has since developed his unique electric bass skills in various groups and styles of music including collaborating with in groups such as Karkhana, Calamita, and Wormholes Electric. Darbuka player Wassim Halal can be found with Polyph?me playing and co-composing popular-contemporary music with Gamelan Puspawarna, or next to the French bagpiper Erwan Keravec, with performers and drawers Benjamin Efrati and Diego Verastegui, with Gregory Dargent and Anil Eraslan in H, or composing pieces for ensembles.

SCIENTIST In The Kingdom Of Dub LP
2024 repress. "Hopeton Brown, better known as Scientist, has been a pioneering figure in the world of dub for 40 years. His early love of electronics proved fruitful when (still a teenager) he was hired at King Tubby's studio in Kingston. Brown quickly ascended the ranks and became heir to Tubby's throne, producing imaginative and technically impressive mixes that solidified his forward-looking nickname. Originally released in 1981, In The Kingdom Of Dub remains one of the best early LPs in Scientist's long career. Produced by Roy Cousins at Channel One and featuring Sly and Robbie along with members of The Revolutionaries, The Aggrovators and The Soul Syndicate, the album offers a wide range of arresting rhythms, bold effect drops and exquisitely melodic bass. From '18 Drumalie Avenue Dub' (a reference to King Tubby's address) to 'Burning Sun Dub', Scientist lays down a veritable roadmap of dub -- filled with disintegrating echoes of satiny organ and textural guitar -- firmly cementing his place as one of the true innovators in Jamaican popular music."

MCNIFF, JASON Everything's A Song CD
Hastings-based singer songwriter and guitarist Jason McNiff releases his ninth LP, Everything's a Song. The album was produced and recorded by Matt Armstrong (bass and drums) in his basement studio on King's Road, St Leonard's-on- Sea during the late summer and autumn of 2023. It features nine brand new songs, plus an English translation of Italian partisan anthem, "Bella Ciao." Jason McNiff was born in Bradford, Yorkshire, in the mid-'70s. He was drawn to the guitar from an early age and by the time he moved to London in 1995, he was set on becoming a professional musician. Copying the guitar style of Mark Knopfler, he crawled the capital's dying blues circuit, jamming, and learning from older players, eventually landing at the Easycome Acoustic Club in Nunhead. He moved to Hastings in 2019, setting up the Sundowner -- an early evening show featuring music from Jason, plus a special guest. He also curates the Coffee House Sessions, another weekly event which aims to recreate the vibe of Soho clubs from the '60s such as Bungies and Les Cousins. Jason also performs together with Gibraltarian poet, Gabriel Moreno, in an homage to Leonard Cohen called "Waiting for the Miracle.""Not just a good songwriter, McNiff is a truly great one." --Americana UK

NEW YORK DOLLS Too Much Too Soon LP
2024 repress. Too Much Too Soon, the second studio album by the legendary New York Dolls was first released in the spring of 1974. The record was laid down in New York with producer Shadow Morton. Morton, known for his work with the Shangri-Las, was brought in to the project by David Johansen despite (or perhaps because) Johnny Thunders wanted to produce the album. Though their self-titled debut with Todd Rundgren at the helm had received high praise from critics, the Dolls didn't like Rundgren. And Rundgren had little respect for the Dolls. Thunders and Johansen thought Rundgren's production watered down their sound. Rundgren was no fan of the group's raucous sound and attitude, to the point that he's even alleged to have yelled at them "get the glitter out of your asses and play!" With Morton behind the boards Too Much Too Soon incorporated many of his trademark production techniques, familiar to Shangri-Las fans, mainly his use of sounds effects such as gunshots and highly present female backing vocals. Too Much Too Soon was well received by critics and fans who praised the band's raw sound and felt that it was improved by Morton's production. Over the years the New York Dolls legacy has only grown larger.

RUSSOM, GAVILAN RAYNA Secret Passage 2LP
2024 repress. "Growing up in deindustrialized Providence, Rhode Island of the 1970s and 1980s provided NYC-based composer and interdisciplinary artist Gavil?n Rayna Russom access to derelict subterranean spaces including the mile-long East Side Rail Tunnel. The tunnel's reverberant darkness would produce distinctive sensory effects and host Russom's formative experiences of interpersonal connectedness, liminality, transgender identity, anti-capitalist desire and state repression. Secret Passage -- an absorbing, memoiristic work by Russom, whose synthesis-based practice fuses information and expression into organic wholes -- draws on memories of 'unsupervised autonomous zones where I tasted the possibilities of a world without surveillance,' as she writes in the liner notes. Inspired by 'this beautifully neglected place,' the music resounds with ghostlike echoes and raw pulsations. Russom utilizes synthesizers, field recordings and voice to illustrate hallucinatory revelations of the city's lightless undercarriage. Each track of Secret Passage, originally released as a limited cassette on Voluminous Arts, is dedicated to a friend -- entwining personal liberation with collective discovery. The East Side Rail Tunnel has been inaccessible since the 1990s, the result of urban development and gentrification."

PLUSH More You Becomes You (White Vinyl) LP
LP version. Includes a deluxe 12-page full-size booklet. Pressed on white vinyl in an edition of 2,000 copies. "A long overdue reissue of the classic debut Plush album, More You Becomes You. Originally released in 1998. Described by Uncut magazine as 'One of the most charismatic and eccentric pop craftsmen of the past twenty years,' Liam Hayes has been making critically acclaimed records since the '90s. His first single 'Three-Quarters Blind Eyes b/w Found a Little Baby' released under the moniker Plush, was cited by the NME as being '..one of those rare records -- and incredibly rare debuts -- that instantly seems a classic.' Although he emerged from the Chicago indie-rock scene, Hayes is often compared with artists such as Jimmy Webb, Brian Wilson, Laura Nyro, and Harry Nilsson. Like some of the best folk-pop or soft soul from the 1960s and 1970s there is a timeless quality to his music. This reissue of More You Becomes You was remastered from the original analog tapes by Jason Hillier and recut for vinyl by Bob Weston, who also remastered the CD and streaming formats. Includes a 20-page booklet put together by Liam and Jason Harvey, with sleeve notes by John Mulvey."
