Handmade Birds are honored to announce the next addition to their Dark Icons Series, a collaborative piece of art the likes of which the world has never seen. Two of modern music's most powerful forces in the fields of sound manipulation and experimental everything, eclectic noise architects LOCRIAN (who recently signed to Relapse Records) and esteemed German minimalist CHRISTOPH HEEMANN (best known for his works in H.N.A.S and CURRENT 93 as well as various solo endeavors), have joined forces, and the result is a soon to be legendary document of pure aural expression that will soon find its place as one of the most landmark collections of musical composition ever put on record.
The album will be presented on both CD and LP format, both limited to 500 pieces, with the record split between 250 black and 250 color-in-color vinyl (obsidian black in transparent ocean trash vortex microplastic blue) and CDs housed in oversized folder & slim plastic sleeve.
The album will be officially released via Handmade Birds on September 18, 2012.
What does it sound like? Howling winds, chiming bells, droning ambiance, whispers of malice. A haunting presence, ominous tones, instrumental warfare. Untainted by the voice of man, this is pure noise, pure sound; mechanical but organic, menacing but gentle.
A record created at a foreboding time, a time of record heat waves, severe storms, and flash droughts that have turned farms to dust in a matter of seasons. Upon writing this press release, recent news reports detail events such as the Petermann Glacier in the Arctic calving an ice island twice the size of Manhattan; the worst drought in over fifty years destroying American crops; and, in Japan, flooding so drastic that many areas have received a year’s worth of rain in a weekend. We live in uncertain, uncomfortable times. Still, for many, the symptoms of our age are as out-of-sight, out-of-mind as the Pacific Ocean Trash Vortex, a mass of floating plastic debris larger than Texas. This divinatory release harkens of worlds to come.
More than an album, Locrian & Christoph Heemann have created a hymn to the death of our civilization.
